NT weathered the storm that was the Solver War at the cost of their finest employees. The chemists who mix together a horrific cocktail of chloral hydrate and pacid the moment someone even smells a red spacesuit, the roboticists who have seen the internals of a Durand, the miners who returned from Hell with its myriad gifts, all died bravely facing the Exponential End. We even lost Clown Planet.
We'd still have them, had it not managed to corrupt cloning on every level so the tubes always spit out Solver mutants. And equally sadly, Centcom lost their genetic backup stations.

If you look at the Zombie Drones tape, and at things such as the warnings that come up on Uzi's visor at the end of the Pilot before she starts laughing, the AI cores of the Worker Drones DO have a self destruct function to ensure that the AI Core is non-functional when the Drone dies or any anomalous tampering is detected.
These "failsafe pins" just don't always successfully go off, which is why Human owners of Worker Drones must check and make sure the AI Cores of dead drones are actually destroyed before disposing of them.
This is part of the reason why Zombie Drones are so rare, because it's extremely unlikely for the AI core failsafe to fail and most Humans probably actually followed Drone disposal guidelines - except the Elliots.

But yeah. The Worker Drones DO have a self destruct, but the entire reason Zombie Drones can occur is because (like any system) it is possible it can fail under specific circumstances.

Fair enough.

I think a lot of people misunderstood the whole "death by sunlight" thing Solver hosts experience. As in they think Sunlight is harmful because it causes them to overheat, which is not the case. It's a supernatural weakness of the Absolute Solver, as in the entity is harmed by direct sunlight - and somewhat less-so by artificial UV lights.
All an allegory to traditional vampiric weaknesses, of course.

Can you imagine if the Exterminators were replaced by an army of disassembly drones instead? You have to remember that only 3 disassembly drones in one city killed enough worker drones to make several thousand foot tall corpse spires. With that also comes with the fact that the disassemblers are loaded out with all sorts of weapons, vision enhancements, chassis built to be durable etc etc etc. Oh, and also they can regenerate on top of all that
