What's the stupidiest translation you've ever encountered?
For me it's in the English dub of Knights of Sidonia, which is pretty good despite some of the female voicing being far too high pitched but they make the dumbest decision I've ever encountered.
instead of saying "Placenta" which is literally and explicitly what the skin of a Gauna is called, the call it an "enta" which is so fucking stupid for so many reasons.
>>91124 Seriously, when it was just the semi-plausible martial arts that was fantastic, but the master's bullshit was so dumb and boring. Think I dropped it around the time one of the master's didn't die from his injuries because "hurr ancient martial arts medicine is superior", the scene had been so dramatic and if he'd died with his rival taking over training the kid it would have had so much meaning.
You know, one of the ingenious things of having an MC who's already known to be dead in the future, is that you can actually have situations like these be somewhat dramatic.
Bigger than Gundam thread since it was eating the /jam/ general. Are we in Fate Zero territory or is Ei Aoki a hack and this is the second coming of Valvrape?
Bleach and One Piece are still things. The captains are about to break in and the monk thinks Ichigo is going to job. Meanwhile we Leo did a coll thing and rescued the princess and we're still not back to Luffy.
She's my favorite character and she has a lot of flaws. However, there's a lot to like about her. She's constantly called a bitch and a slut, but she really isn't in my opinion. I think some of the people just don't like a woman that speaks her mind takes charge and dresses how she likes without giving a fuck.
>>90291 Wow. I make more money than anyone under the Series Director. And Series Director wouldn't be THAT much of a step up in pay. I know the economy's different in Japan since no one's saving up for real estate, but still, it's surprising how little they make.
>>90292 >Does that take into account the korean animators too? You mean when they outsource work to korean studios? Thats a series-by-series basis. But if its a studio job in japan, its in-house.
That said, no, korean animators don't make much either.
If you aren't reading Spirit Circle (the current main project of Satoshi Mizukami, of Biscuit Hammer and Sengoku Yoko), you do not yet know the meaning of shitstorms and agony.
It's about as depressing as you can get without entering the trying to hard realm of Punpun and company.
Since One Piece is back on /jam/ for the time being, instead of making threads for the big three let's just make one big Shonen Jump thread for everything Jump related, like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, World Trigger, Assassination Classroom. Stuff like that.
Geass is riddled with problems and low points but boy those high points are really fucking high. The Black Rebellion is one of the best smackdowns ever put into a Real Robot series.
People always hate on the noodle people, which has always confused me because a large part of what made Geass the sensation it was (best internetwide simulwatch of all time) was that strange theatrical style it had. And the reason it had that style is because Lelouch (a lot of characters, but particularly Lelouch) was made entirely out of joints.
>>89635 No. Thought its mash-up of Death Note, Gundam, and England was terribly hollow. Only memorable scene from the series was that one chick humping the table.
I saw a clip of an anime and I really would like to know what it is....
The clip shows first a young women in a red armor top, form fitting with brown shorts and a wicked dagger, she has white short hair in a loose ponytail, she flicks her ponytail, looks across stone pillar outdoor area at other young lady who has dark hair, short, with a white bikini top and 2 gold semi autos, dark haired girl starts shooting...white haire girl is running at her, bullets are kinda anime 3d as they pass, white haired girl gets to dark hair and they both end up with dagger/gun at each others head...
... message too long. Click here to view the full post.
Fairly generic, but for recent stuff, that sounds like something reminiscent of Blade & Soul (what little I've seen, anyway). The clothing doesn't match but the MC has white hair+ponytail. Don't suppose you have a link to the clip? Is it more of a current art style or something more from the 80s/90s? Recall any discerning emblems/lines?
Also, this shoulda gone in the general thread, but w/e.
Why do Japanese animations ALWAYS feature characters eating food at some point? All Studio Ghibli animations have a scene, so do Paprika, Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, The girl who laept through time, 5cm per second, and even Akira. I have actually downloaded and watched about 15 random anime series just to test my observation and it's true. The only exception I've found so far is the original Ghost in the Shell. Is this some cultural thing I'm not familiar with? As for western counterparts, only Ratatouille and a half a dozen titles come to mind.
>>89036 Or how Invader Zim practically revolved around snack foods. And South Park almost always has scenes of Cartman eating as well. Bugs Bunny is almost never seen not eating a carrot, the Coyote's trap for the Road Runner is usually bird seed which we see him eat, any Cat and Mouse duo (say Tom and Jerry, or Mr. Jinx and Trixie and Dixie) tend to be in conflict over the mouse stealing and eating food, and likewise Chip and Dale's conflicts tend to be about them stealing fruit or nuts or the like from orchards. Scooby Doo could never be talked into solving a mystery without some sort of food being offered, and generally both he and Shaggy ate throughout the episode regardless.
I mean really just....food is a constant in all cultures. It's a "people sit in chairs" level trope.
Meals are also universally-understood gathering areas, so they're useful in bringing together a group of people to talk about something (or have something announced to them). The narrative doesn't have to explain anything special about people gathering for a meal, as opposed to gathering in some random street.
As for on the go, snacking is a normal part of life. Imagine that you never saw characters blink; after a while it would be odd that you never see them eat, especially on long journeys.
And specific eating habits make for easy tropes to expand a character without going into large backstory. For Ed, Edd, and Eddy are always doing their scams to get money for jawbreakers, but rarely did they actually get the candy. The food was merely a motivation for getting the money with is the McGuffin used to set up all of their plots. No one cares for nor needs any more explanation than "they love jawbreakers", and everything follows.
