Someone asked me questions during the drawpile but it was over once i got back So I'm gonna answer here really quick
"how long have you been drawing for? " Started since i was like 9 or so is when I started going "oh I'm making characters" so I'd say since then.
"Anything you wish you knew when you were a noob" The way i learned how to draw heads has severally handicapped me when it comes to drawing humans. I should've learned a different way
>>358484 I noticed a lot of artists here don't do construction traditionally, it's funny because the same holds true for the opposite. Artists that do proper construction in the Loomis way have a bitch and a half of a time doing more cartoonish things.
>>358490 >>358490 I do construction, I just don't keep it on the page once I have my sketch layer down and these days I do more of it in my head than on the page. The longer you draw (assuming some regular practice) the less on-page preparation you tend to need. I notice artists much better than me barely put any construction on the page except for things they've never done or when trying to show it to someone else on purpose.
It looks like theres no construction to an observer but really its just the artist is visualizing it rather than spending extra time drawing it.
>>358492 Usually that's when you're doing an angle or head study that you've done 1000 times before though. If you're trying anything highly detailed or subtle you need construction to ensure all of your features are on the right plane/the angles all line up. As an example you can kinda eyeball a simple small anime nose and not stress too much, or a wide mouth on a more cartoony character like Cyn. But the closer you get to "realism" the more you absolutely need construction, because if that mouth goes 1 cm past the center of the eye it's gonna look wrong.
>>358493 Digital also helps, if something looks weird I'll usually play with moving it around, resizing or lasso reshaping it rather than delete it and start over from scratch, don't have to worry about losing a page to repeated erasing or permanent inks or paints.
>>358502 I always thought that they just take the core out of the baby and put it in a normal body, so the pillbaby chassis stays to be reused by the next baby drone

>>358490 >>358492 >>358493 >>358496 >picrel I DO have human ocs more on the realism side and would love to draw them, obviously not in the threads, this is just personal art mumbo jombo But because i grew up drawin characters that had no noses or ears i never had to think about placements of the eyes causing me to put them, too close together, too high up, noses at weird angles or are too low, eyes just....too big sometimes.
Yeah sure, there's always editing digitally but being able to identify placements and such during the process would've just helped so much more especially when drawing traditionally
Honestly while I did practice some shapes, I never looked at any art tutorials. I just look at others' artwork and see if I can make something similar to theirs then maybe think of something that I haven't done and draw it.

>>358556 Will sentinel drones become real in the future, if so in what form? This won't cause a paradox due to it being information already known to me.
>>358538 If you check, a lot of tutorials will get around to encouraging you to replication/emulation of other artstyles as part of your practice. The answer is never to just do one thing over and over, to learn art in any reasonable amount of time you need to be drilling a broad range of skills in different intensities based on what it is you want to draw. For drawing buildings and vehicles line confidence, construction and perspective are going to be your prime focus, while drawing characters requires more focus on gesture, line of action and expressions, for rendering/painting you need to spend more time on color balance and theory, light and shadow and how to create texture. The first thing you should consider is what you are most passionate about drawing, understand that in that subject you'll learn the fastest, and also consider that if you have any other focus in mind you'll need to budget more practice time to that thing because even if you need it for your art your brain will generally retain less of it per hour of your time invested in practicing.
>>358531 There's definitely some aspect of drawing that can't be learned from tutorials or lessons. It's something about the basic understanding of what's right. I can't explain it any other way.
>>358582 Yeah you just look at the image and if it looks good it looks good. It helps if you know what you feel is good and you are willing to compromise on it so you don't fight your medium or get frustrated at lack of skills.
>>358584 That's the whole problem: you don't understand why it's good. The image is just good. One image can violate all the basic principles of "good" art and still look good, while another is made completely according to the rules, but will look like crap. I don't understand it.
>>358589 Its pattern recognition, you train yourself by discovering what you subjectively find good. You do this by looking at things and experimenting by drawing things slightly differently to see how they look.
What determines the popularity of an artist other than how much they draw? I've noticed that some drawfags here get constant replies and notice while other drawfags here maybe get 2-3 replies and that's it. Same thing I've noticed with artist is Newsgrounds, twitter or any other place that has a concentration of artists.

>>358596 How good their art is, how long they've been around, how much they interact and thus leave a personal impression on other Anons and this >>358598 are all other factors in how popular they are. For example an artist who used to go by Mercurialmoose or just Merc is probably one of the best pure lineartists we've had, has a very recognizable and consistent artstyle that can depict a wide range of characters and is a good hand at coloring and rendering when he choses to put in that much time, however he dropped his socials, most of his off-chans contact and to my knowledge doesn't directly take requests anymore. Just appears from time to time at long intervals, drops some drawing that he was working on thats relevant to a topic and leaves. His popularity operates entirely on the quality of his art, and basically not at all on his social interaction. Other artfags and writefags run all along that range of skill/regularity/sociability, although it is notable that since the meaningful content from the show has basically come to a standstill all creative fags have reduced the regularity of their posts or are splitting their time between Drones and one or more other more active interests.

>>358589 It also depends on the goal. If you want polished art, you analyze what works and what doesn’t. >stiff poses. >awkward proportions. >weak colors. But if the goal is funposts, memes or humor then ‘bad’ art can actually work because the awkwardness is part of the appeal. >>356663 >You’ve been meaning to ask Switch about the…person on the picture on the shrine the first time you saw them. >They’re definitely not human. It looks more like an anthropomorphic blue moth like certain…artwork you’ve seen on the hidden board on the Kazakhstani bread making forum. >During one of the maintenance sessions you have with her, making sure she isn’t gutting herself again in order to get her drug fix, you’ve been helping her with that but you gotta help her wane her off them, you decide to ask her. “Who’s that in the picture on the shrine?” >Switch gives you a blank stare then slowly turns her head towards the shrine. “I know that shrine has some sort of religious significance to you but don’t take it the wrong way…that thing with you is definitely not human.” >She doesn’t respond immediately and keeps staring at the shrine. You think you somehow offender her religion or something and yet you don’t get a murderous stare. Instead, she gets off the examination table. “You’re right. *He* is not human.” She corrects you then walks in front of the shrine. You follow her as you stand next to her. “I was expecting you to ask something about that sooner.” “What’s that supposed to mean?” >She kneels in front of the shrine. “The information’s been lost to time, and the Union’s keeping a tight lid on it, but hundreds of years ago humanity made contact with intelligent live forms. They're all gone now thanks to the Solver.” “So the funposts on the paranormal board on the you-know-what forum about aliens are true?” >You expect Switch to give you a ‘What the fuck?’ stare when you worded it like that but she just nods her head slightly. “A little bit. Your ancestors didn’t find gray aliens or saucers. Instead they found alien forms similar to life on Earth.” >You don’t know what you were expecting. This kind of sounds like bullshit. “And I’m supposed to believe that? Or are you just fucking with me?” >”Believe what you want.” Switch glances at you. “I believe what I believe.” Oh well. Fair enough. She does make a point. >You kneel next to her. You gotta ask her more about it. Him. Whatever. “Who is he?” >The two of you stare at the picture of the shrine. Switch leans forward and grabs the picture delicately like she just found the Holy Grail. “He was my boyfriend.” You learn over to her to get a better look at the picture. “For a while we were the happiest couple” On the picture, you see Switch, you assume its her since the Worker Drone in the picture bears a striking resemblance to her, and this blue anthro moth. She’s leaned forward towards the moth, kissing it on its, what you think looks like, cheek while the moth looks like he wants to be somewhere else. “For a while?” >Switch turns her head towards the wall and you follow her gaze towards the nailed flag on the wall. “This flag represents who I worked for, what I stood for and where I met my love. Do you recognize the Symbol?” >You give it a good look, realizing that you’ve seen it before somewhere. But from where? You try to think inside this hollow head of yours, but nothing comes up. “Not really.” >”Nanotrasen. Former conglomerate, now essentially destroyed and non-existent.” Oh! Now you remember where you’ve seen this symbol before! It’s from those history classes in school when you were learning about modern history, about bad corporations throughout history. “You mean the Nanotrasen that was hyper-capitalistic, ruthless and disregarded worker safety?” >Switch looks at you and gives you an unamused look. “As if JCJenson wasn’t exactly the same. But yes, that Nanotrasen.” “So you met your boyfriend there?” >Switch nods. “It was during a corporate-mandated party. That was during the Solver War – everyone was mandated to go to one after they were temporarily rotated out of active service. The company realized that people needed to blow off steam, one way or another after seeing the horrors of the Solver. Drugs, booze, everything in between. You indulged in what you liked.” “Dude, that sounds rad. Why don’t we have the same things here too?” >Switch chuckles and shrugs. “The way I was attracted to him was…weird. First, it was his smell. It was…weirdly intoxicating.” So she has a scent fetish? “Second was his attitude. He was angry and constantly pissed off which flipped something in me.” Sounds like typical white woman behaviour to you. “He was…just like me these days.” You give her an inquisitive look. “And you were…what? Happy and outgoing?” >She nods. This isn’t as bad as you thought it would be. Sounds almost like your typical love story. “At first, he didn’t want to be near me, but I kept going. I insisted and insisted until it paid off. He agreed on a date and it started from there.” Switch takes a deep breath as she puts back the picture back at the shrine. “This picture is one of the last good memories I had with him before he was taken away from me.” >Oh. Things are taking a dark turn. “…what happened to him?” >”Murder Drones got to him before I could.” Her breath gets shaky. “We were…we were separated from one another. I managed to get to him before…” Her hands shake as she slowly raises them, looking at them with a mortified expression. “They tore him to shreds. Nothing left of him. If only it…if only I were…oh, Robo-God I’m so sorry!” She yells out which catches you off guard.” >She covers her face with her hands as she starts sobbing. Things really got dark. You know of other people who lost loved ones during the war. You’ve heard of their stories and while you think it’s horrible, it didn’t make you feel like shit. Hearing it from someone you, somewhat, personally know? Now that hits different. >You reach over to her and give her a comforting hug. Switch’s breathing stops for a moment as you feel her turn around to face you as she reciprocates the hug. You let her sob on your shoulder for a moment as the two of you sit in front of the shrine.

>>358669 Her minions are sort of just fodder with barely the ability to speak, a real person who cares for her beyond a master servant relationship would probably make her mind circuit a bit especially since she had little love in her past homelife. Her minions are servants they’re suppose to adore her, and Pauline is a peasant who is also suppose to adore her naturally, but it goes beyond a fear response and into something more which Valentine wasn’t prepared for I think. It would kind of be a new experience for her. Not that this means Valentine is a good person of course and her issues stun from her complexes and having a shitty dad, still I think a Pauline ship would be a fun dynamic.

>>358780 That's not how a "booru" operates, it's no one's "job", it's voluntary. If you made something, uploading it yourself makes it easier for others, because you can tag things correctly, and it will be under your account/control. Or, if another anon likes what you made, they can upload it for you.

>>358818 I think it's got something to do with a general line of thinking that goes "If you upload it yourself then it wasn't good enough for others to upload it for you"
>>358819 Exactly: nobody wants to upload shitty work, but how can you reasonably judge your own creations? Better to let other anons decide and keep clutter off the Booru. At least, that's the rule I've gone by.
>>358819 Hot take but using whether some else uploads your content for you as a metric for the quality of one's own content is almost as retarded as using how many (You)s one gets as a metric for quality.
Very often, gullible people think that sentinel drones are cold machines of war, ready to kill the enemies of humanity at the first command, but in fact, inside them there is a fire stored under enormous pressure of responsibility and past, and if it breaks out, God bless the unfortunate soul who is nearby.
what a foolish notion: she merely appears the part >including to outsiders >everyone that sees Anon with his wife thinks they're gayer than a three dollar bill
>>358819 Yeah sure, but this isn't e6. It's just "us" here, in a way, so it won't really matter. For example, I've seen artists on e6 upload their own, and they get 100+ likes and favs regardless, that's people liking their artwork. >>358822 I've also noticed some drawfags post WIPs, and anons upload em to other boorus, and it doesn't get all the likes, because it's not done. Letting the artist uploading it would be better, because it would encourage them to finish it. Sometimes they post the WIP, and the artist gives up on it, or if not, they post the finished version, and and now you have two cakes! (No need to delete the WIP one)
So in the end, it's up to you, if you really like something, just upload it. If the creator does not want to upload it, well, too bad I guess, if you wanna back it up and preserve it on the site, that would a good idea too.

Excerpt from Sentinel Technical Handbook, Project Phoenix - K04-E & -E/I Models, Section 1 (On Physical Inspection & Maintenance of Assets) >1- Begin maintenance by thorough visual inspection of each unit, be sure to clean unit thoroughly of debris prior to inspection >Inspection should start with vulnerable areas unprotected by units primary armor shell, see diagrams 1A and 1B for reference, in both units the face displays, GL-4 Gargoyle projector lenses, stomach sections, tails, repulsor wings and all joint assemblies are comprised of conventional materials and are thus most likely to suffer from combat damage >A set of tooling and multiple sets of replacement components for these systems have been provided with each unit, instructions for the disassembly, diagnosis and replacement of these self-contained modules can be found in Section 1G of this handbook.
>2- Visually inspect each exoskeleton armor component, first visually and then with the provided multispectra scanning unit, armor elements within 95-100% nominal tolerance according to this scanner are to be left in operation until degraded bellow 95% nominal tolerance. >If the provided scanner tags an armor unit as defective or unacceptably degraded (see diagram 1C for reference) immediately remove the armored casing, see Section 1H on procedure for field removal of Alloy 2X armor units, be aware that many of the armor units are atomically bonded to the structures beneath and may require the removal of entire limb modules, consider if field circumstances allow for this loss of functionality in the unit before disposing of damaged modules per Section 1H protocols, due to logistical overdraw replacements may not be readily available.

The self destruct device will be painted in a bright red enamel and will bear clear hazard markings, it will be connected by a secondary insulated and armor sheathed power bus to the primary PMU. >>358896 The fuse antimatter weighs about as much as a single particle of dust, the trapping field that holds it is generated by a mechanism with no moving parts, no volatiles, no unstable elements, and it draws its power direct from the singularity core at a fixed 5 watts, about the power of a common small LED. By a huge stretch it is the least likely component to malfunction, by probability every other working component of the Sentinel will have malfunctioned multiple times before the failsafe malfunctions once.

>>358909 The trick is that, like all things, it WILL malfunction eventually: and when it does, the Sentinel unavoidably explodes. >inb4 Sentinels have a realistic lifetime of 30 years out of combat >not because they wear out, but because that's the expected end-of-life for the self destruct
>>358921 I assume they can be removed in the proper circumstances, such as the repair facility specifically designed to fiddle with them. Realistically, they'd all be removed after the war. Though I also don't see much of a future for the Project Phoenix sentinel drones, so maybe removal also means decommissioning. In either case, there'd be at least one sentinel drone going full Protoman and refusing to return to base for the extremely easy fix that'll stop it from violently exploding.
>>358924 The Phoenix sentinel drones can become completely normal, well, in the sense of becoming self-aware and no longer obeying commands, so I don't see a problem with that, and I can also see how the bomb can be removed if it's not needed.

>>358932 Thats a sad idea Valentine has every potential to be a kind person, but because of her Father and crushing weight of being born into a Noble family she built her complex around being so above everyone and internalized it. Its at the point now where that's just who she is and is beyond evil, but if she were to get in a relationship with someone she'd shatter like an egg
>>358921 Depends on how active they are, under combat stress the cooling and secondary power distribution systems that power their limbs, flight system, weapons, etc will fall apart in a couple years tops, those systems are under extreme loads that push even the material science of the 3000s to its limits. In safe standby mode in a cradle they can last basically indefinitely. Under normal working conditions outside of combat their mean time between maintenance cycles would be about 5x less frequent than your standard worker drone, and the elements that fail out first will be their joint motors, indicator lights, and the more delicate sensor systems. Approximated date of failure of a self destruct unit takes one of two forms, the exotic lithium alloy fuel that actually produces the subnuclear burn can decay chemically to a useless state where it will fail to ignite. This takes 100 years, +/- a week, or the cable itself can decay away until it no longer passes the power necessary to sustain the trapping field. Even in extremely corrosive environments this would require the deliberate removal of several layers of protective material and years of prolonged exposure to the environment. >>358924 There is a very specialized maintenance and diagnostic tool that can disconnect the self destruct device from its normal power supply while keeping continuity of power, and a separate one for bypassing the interlocks that seal the fuse portion of the device, at which point the antimatter particulate can be safely removed by a third specialized tool which will render the self destruct inert.
For obvious reasons these tools were not widely deployed, they were held in vaults in the two facilities that manufactured SDs. As far as the military was concerned the self destruct device was an inaccessible black box. There is no recorded instance of one ever failing randomly.
