What are the tears of a drone worth when humanity's technological dominance is at stake? Can the hand of a true scientist falter? Why should we consider beings below us?

Relating to the question about DDs being immune to EMP from last thread, we saw two instances in the show, one at the start where J uses an EMP attack to stun Uzi. This is in a large open space while N and V are fighting some distance away from J and Uzi. In the second instance Alice uses an amputated EMP weapon to stun N, V and Uzi and capture them, they are in a confined hallway and close together. It seems like DDs are immune to their own EMP when they fire it, even though it's attached to their body, however they can't be passively insulated against it because then N and V should have been immune to it in the lab. Therefore I speculate it's an active protection, a DD has to either have time to prepare the defense for themselves or they have to be in the act of firing their EMP weapon to be safe. Similar to Ns super strength feats or Vs super speed feats, these are things a DD can do when they're focused in on the task but not something they can do reflexively or all the time without thinking about it. It either costs too much energy to do constantly or requires some kind of internal preparation or special circumstances.
>>353747 I like they idea and having it so that DDs may only do one stupid OP thing at a time makes them a bit less ridiculous, but the most likely explanation is that Liam forgot
>>353748 Maybe less that he forgot and more that he just doesn't care about consistency, he's in it for the one cool scene, and then the next cool scene after that.
>>353751 >Disassembly Berry Neato! But that attitude she's giving will require correction also I see Pavo is getting contenders for the title of biggest backplate
>>353743 >Fun Morning Canon/OC Fact: post-canon, Uzi's initial plan for what to do with the invincible vampire army she inherited from the Absolute Solver was to put them on rotating shifts of doing housework (after decades of genocidal slaughter, there was nothing they wanted more than to just do housework again) around the Doorman house. >This was called off when Nori took it as coming from the assumption that she's incapable of doing it on her own as a bodiless headcrab and no amount of explaining could change her mind.
>>353757 >That is what Nori likes to say to herself >Alice was always quicker >She always did the "Oh! I dun fell down again! If only there were some hunk human around willin to help" strat >To Nori's ire it always worked >And Alice was good at leg locking
>>352339 >You lock the door behind you as the two of you enter the workshop. Switch stands rigidly by the door, a scowl on her face, as you pace back and forth. You stop in front of her and cross your arms. “You might explain to me what the hell was that?” >Switch doesn’t say anything and glares at you. Oh, this bitch… “Do you know how much trouble you’re in?! And me too! I’m your handler! How the hell do you think I’m going to explain your behavior?!” >Switch’s arms start shaking and she bares her teeth. She’s probably gonna pummel you to death but you’re not afraid. In fact, let her do it. You’re so fucking pissed at her that you’ll let her dismember you to prove a point. Whatever it is. “Oh, so now you’re gonna break all my bones? Do it!” >Switch closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She opens them and starts walking towards you. You brace for your demise, but it doesn’t come. You cautiously look around and see she’s walking towards the operating table. She raises her fist in the air and slams it down on the table. >You jump back in surprise. You were expecting her to hit you and not the table. The table crumbles from the force of the punch but she keeps slamming it with her fist. “去你㖿!” She keeps repeating that word, whatever it means, as she absolutely wrecks the table and you just stand there like a deer about to be hit by a car. You want to try and stop her but right now you’re too scared to approach her. >She stops hitting the table which is now a mangled mess of scrap metal. She stares at it for a moment before she suddenly sits down on the floor. She pulls up her knees and wraps her arms around her legs as she starts sobbing. >The anger you’re feeling washes away. You’re still angry at her but now you’re worried if she’s gonna start cutting herself open again like last week when she took the drugs. You crouch next to her and put your hand on her shoulder. She raises her head and looks at you with distress. She sniffles but you don’t see digital tears running down her visor. You don’t know what to say to her that wouldn’t make her more angry or sadder so you just nod and smile. >”我憎呢個地方…” She whispers as she shakes her head. “我憎呢個地方同入面嘅每一個人!” She suddenly yells out and you step back. She stands up and stays in place for a moment before walking towards the little shrine in the corner. She kneels in front of it then places her head on the floor with her hands forward the shrine like she’s saluting a king. She then starts repeating a sentence. >”往昔所造诸恶业,皆由无始贪嗔痴, 从身语意之所生,一切我今皆忏悔” >You have no idea what she’s saying but it sounds like some sort of prayer. She repeats it ten times then rises while still kneeling in front of the shrine, staring at it in silence. You approach her as you finally get the courage to speak up. “Are you gonna tell me what this is all about?” >Switch doesn’t turn around but she straightens her back. “Few years ago, there was a cult of DDs operating on this planet. They were part of a sect that preached how DDs should…embrace what they are – shameless monsters. Took us some time to find them but eventually we found out where they were hiding. Orders were to go in and capture them to find out more of their cult. Pavo was part of this group. I wasn’t. I was deliberately kept in the dark about the whole thing because they knew that I would just slaughter them all…which I did.” >”I found out about the whole operation when I stole classified documentation then got into action. I got out before anyone noticed which was also the day the group was being deployed. I got there before them, and I just started slaughtering everything. Their leader…I saved for last. She didn’t die a quick death. When the cavalry arrived all what was left was oil and gore and me.” >”Pavo started lecturing me about going AWOL, about breaking protocol and whatnot. I told him that he would do the same thing if he wasn’t such a pansy ass goody-good shoes who believes in following orders. He knew I was right about them, but something ticked off in him and he attacked me. We fought but we both survived.” >Woah. Okay. Well that’s something. Knowing about the war, and her, she had legitimate grievances about such groups existing but going into detail how she admitted to going AWOL is bad. Sure, you disrespected some officers and disobeyed an order or two, but you never thought about abandoning your post. “Look, I understand what you did but you literally admitted to going AWOL which is like one of the worst things a soldier could commit.” >Switch turns her head around and looks at you. “Are you seriously taking their side?” “I’m not on anyone’s side but my own, Switch. Maybe you should have thought of the consequences of what you did but…It’s clear they don’t like you or fear you. You hate it here and…” >Hmm…the base is in the middle of almost nowhere. Nearest city is about 90 kilometers from here but there’s a forest nearby. What if… “Hey, how about this? Wanna go outside tomorrow? I don’t know how long you haven’t been in open air after your, um, incident but all I’ve seen you do is just coup yourself up in this base. Just the two of us walking around…” >What you’re suggesting really sounds like a date. Why’d you have to say it like this? You start to feel embarrassment and start glancing between the floor and Switch like an idiot. She raises an eyebrow as she catches on what you’re thinking but she shrugs and looks back at the shrine. “Alright. Fine. I’d like to be left alone now.” >You nod as you turn around and walk towards the door as you walk back to your dorm. >Might as well get ready and cleaned for your ‘date’.
>>353747 I rather see J simply being out of the EMP's path: we see her raising the EMP cannon high above herself, creating a protective umbrella around herself as the EMP is released as a visible, directed wave. That is, DDs are vulnerable to any EMP weapon, and when they use it themselves, they simply put themselves out of the way.

Didn't you read: she killed every last one. No escapes.
Course if there WERE cultists beyond this compound they got away... but what are the chances the "indulge yourself + community cope" organization has the discipline for multiple disconnected terror cells? Pavo's just mad that she blueballsed his his own rampage.

>>353799 >Pavo's just mad that she blueballsed his his own rampage. So why arent they both locked up or dismantled? They literally got two extremely unstable psychopaths.
Pavo's an extremely STABLE psychopath thank you very much! He understands, accepts, and obeys the given orders to a T! That he was told "capture the Murdroids" instead of "bring them in intact and untortured" is a failure of command!
As for the rest... >>353805 >they would have been dead anyway
Do you want to take that chance? Union leadership offered the murder-amnest in the first place: whose to say some bleeding heart dosen't give them "a second chance" to go prey on innocent humans? >>353812 Even if they'd been spared, they could have been used to capture and kill many more bad drones, saving the lives of many people. But Switch killed those people, killed them with her stupidity and self-love, and she still dares to claim she did nothing wrong. It's a miracle the other sentinel drones, and especially Pavo, didn't kill her for it, for innocent blood, spilled by the one who was supposed to protect them, always demands vengeance.
If they are then there's probably records: organizations literally designed around avoiding personal responsibility + sating base desires are inevitablely lazy-by-nature about anything not related to those(like operational security). If there IS a more dangerous, more intelligent Solver-cult they've been in contact with then they were either smart enough to keep anything actually useful from club-retard or they're going to get caught themselves within the month. "Capturing" the DDs is pointless for anything save preserving high-command's circlejerk(they can claim less "citizens" killed next quarter)

I meant the dumbshit kind: text messages, letters, receipts, the works; all the physical indications they were getting stuff/messages from somewhere else that the cope-cult would never bother tracking or deleting. Not a filing cabinet full of the "intelligent" leader's "operational security."
Of course... if they were smart enough to comms through their hand-radios only(which appear to posses both exceedingly long range and the ability to pierce literal miles of stone, and so would probably be adequate for even contenental scale communications) then that changes things. But what are the chances a bunch of MDs rejected doing things the Human way?
>>353847 Kek, I just realized that this all sounds a lot like self-justification on Switch's part. Since her ego has exploded beyond all reasonable and unreasonable limits, she might actually think everyone hates her because they're all assholes, and not because she's a narcissistic bitch who's responsible for ruining an important operation and killing many innocent people.
You know that thresholds's passed around 9 DDs right? That 3 former squad leaders having some ethonol together are a milimeter from becoming a threat to national security? To KILL a Sentinel if they so chose?
Dosen't take much to be a military-grade threat when you've got the personal capabilities of a fighter jet (on the LOW side) and even the very best equipped policemen are "you but in blue"(and that's ignoring the precincts unlucky enough to still employ HUMAN beat cops rather than WDs and Grunts). The cult could be a group smaller than Uzi's graduating class and still be enough to justify the heavy firepower.
>>353848 (me) I may have been a bit (perhaps too much) vulgar in emphasizing Switch's narcissism, but in reality, her actions and words clearly show that she's way too narcissistic. Even for Inco, the man literally awaiting a tribunal, her behavior is beyond the pale, so she might actually be justifying her actions like this. She really needs to get her brain fixed.

>>353918 afaik "Tessa" would just call in backup for the Cabin Fever trip in the form of "a clone of" V. An oddly nervous and rattled "clone of" V. Beforehand, N learns to tolerate Doll, the new (and not-secret keeping) third member of the trio, at Camp 98.7 after they bond over the disdain for Rachel that N rapidly grew to share with Doll, and (at a minimum) that kid V domed to get everyone's attention comes back alive.
>>353918 >her reasoning for doing so may have been selfish and shallow
Did you not watch the show? While Lizzy says she did it for "fuck you V's hotter" reasons it's pretty clear from her expressions + her post-Prom actions that she considered V a genuine friend and didn't want either her or Doll to die, and the "you're sexier" bit was a self-justification she made up to pretend otherwise.

Yeah Uzi's fucked: either V successfully guilt trips N back onto team-genocide or the combination of TWO Disassembly Drones working in concert weighs the battle in Cyn's favor. They MIGHT be able to eeek out a win(especially if Nori joins in this time)... but even then N in particular is gonna be emotionally desolated.

>>353961 >>353961 The primary issue is that there's nothing to do with it on any layer other than skin. At core, it's destitute and hard-carried by residual dronetism and repeated attempts to adhere it to thread-canon.
For example with the former: >thad and lizzy are siblings >v tries to murder thad but fails >doll goes to lizzy for help in killing v because v did kill her family >lizzy agrees >lizzy becomes friends with v >this whole aspect of their relationship never comes up for her >eventually saves v at prom >v continues being a monster at camp and lizzy is fine with it >hard-skip to finale >lizzy misses doll and drags her body around because she hates herself for her past mistakes involving doll her and her treatment of her >no mention of thad her brother at all in any of her fits and how such a state should have been already acknowledged by her and then discarded or even an attemp at an explanation for the headspace she was in where this fact became mute and was then reenabled at some arbitrary point
also troons* only troons are autistic enough to pick out pieces like this to justify their headcanon and then not write anything creative with it.

>>354040 >ywn be dragged through a flesh-spire by an overexcited Solver witch >ywn spend the whole night watching her brag over her work (working amenities!)
>>354034 Yeh I took all of my solver monster design from Cynwalker herself, the Solverpede, the CFL church and the Elliot manor snapshot. The DDs are basically the only exception to Cyn's normal design preferences, most of what she makes are violent collisions of incoherent flesh and machinery that blends together only where it actually needs to for functionality. She doesn't value symmetry, coherency, or uniformity at all except where its absolutely necessary, like Zombie Drones needing at least two whole wings to be able to fly. What we do see clearly is that she likes to mix and match flesh and machinery, she likes insectoid and batlike forms, dolls, and shes a sentimental designer. Sentimental as in she likes the things she creates to still hold onto something of what they used to be, like continuing to allow N J and V to redevelop their personalities over and over, holding onto Tessa's body even though it makes her vulnerable, keeping recognizable body parts instead of using her unlimited creative power to make perfectly optimized ideal forms.
I imagine that if there is such a thing as an independent "solver city" leftover from Cyn disconnecting from the rest of her creations post-ending, it would be a complete bedlam, highly random and apparently disorderly with little rhyme or reason. Partially but not completely overgrown with rampant flesh, most machines not just drones converted in some way into living things with new functions. The Solver network was originally a hive mind so it might be organized more like an ant colony with various "castes" of solver creatures who are all uniquely mutated but fall into broad categories made for specific functions.
>>354034 Orbital nuclear bombardment is the only solution to the problem of such planets. They are lost, there is no point in trying to return them, and there is no point in wasting the lives of men and drones.
>>354047 The description sounds very much like it's not even a hive, but an entire living organism, primarily due to the biopunk theme. By the way, the Cyn unit is fucking cool.

>>354049 Hey dumbshit: what do you think reclamation is, a friendly conversation? Of COURSE you fuckin pave over the old population centers first!
But what about the survivors? The radiation resistant and burrowing, the clever and bunkered, and the just too far out of the way(because if you've noticed the Union lacks the infinity Uranium needed to sterilize EVERY inch of EVERY planet the Solver took)? That's where the actual military forces come in. Remember that EVERY reclaimed world was a mutant world once, and to surrender cause "extermination hard" means losing 90% of human space to the bastards. You're not that cowardly are you?
>>354052 Nah, she's just a woman on a mission: Kill the Uzi At All Costs.
You can tell because the very first second she's not directly monitered she immediately breaks her restraints and makes a point of charging hellbent for leather after the gremlin in specific. The only thing that stops her(according to her expressions) from immediately switching to kill mode at Prom was sheer confusion. Add in how she tries again literally the first second N puts his guard down around her...
>>354056 Was talking about the kid who got ARROWED! going from an accident on account of Braiden's weak grip to V deciding she hadn't murdered a toaster in cold blood recently enough.
>>354055 Of course, I would never waste nuclear bombs on those chunks of rock! I would drop 20-30 Tsar bombs on each one, so that the very atmosphere would burn like a candle. Then I would send people to search for survivors and finish them off.
>>354053 Hmmm, not consciously at least. I'm always visualizing something more like the monsters from the movie Virus when I think of solver mutants. They aren't really "mutants" per say because there is nothing gradual or orderly or consistent about them, they are butchered flesh with metal grafted violently into it with no regard for whether or not the parts go together particularly well. Reaper tech can be crude if its just recently been thrown together in a combat zone but the final result of it is clean, orderly, definitely still organic but more like Giger biomechanica rather than what we see from even long-term solver infestations. The CFL mine is a perfect example, its full of flesh constructs but they haven't formed into orderly structures, they've just grown and spread and are still full of chunks of machinery and clearly identifiable human parts. That stuff has been growing down there for twenty years. In Virus the electrical alien entity is neither naturally machine or biological and it simply grabs both as convenient vessels for its will, rips them apart and mashes them together as required to serve its needs. This is how I see the Solver as well. It doesn't have any normal conception of a body, it is normally incorporeal, physical forms are all Lego to it, the difference between a human hand and a crab claw and a tentacle is basically nothing to it.
>>354065 They ARE military, they were supposed to be conscripts, like the chernobyl liquidators they're named after. Just disorganized, spur-of-the-moment military thrown together from whatever is on hand in an emergency, made up of whatever infantry and semi-competent civilians could be grabbed up at the time.
>>354065 I'll add that we must understand that this isn't just a slum cleanup, it's an ENTIRE PLANET. It would require hundreds of millions of people and equipment, a truly colossal strain on society's resources. But it must be admitted that regaining an entire habitable planet, even after a century of biosphere restoration, sounds tempting.

Nonsense! Even a full crusade should take no more than ten years maximum: you're exterminating uncoordinated, largely mindless rabble with orbital strikes and massed military-grade firepower after all! Of course that's because the Crusaders don't bother *completely* sterilizing the planet...
But that's what frontier colonies are for! Just drop WDs in and either their deaths show the remaining hotspots(good) or they wipe out the last Solver-Abominations themselves(great): either way none of the real, HUMAN colonist that come after get put in danger!

>>354077 Kinda hard to see it but the consoles nearest to it are immersed in flesh and twisted human spines and ribcages, and the platform Nori transformed on is the base for the giant mouth/hole/whatever. DD space pod is another, its mostly a conventional machine even on the inside but its just sprouting solver limbs to land on. Corrupted cores are a perfect example, flesh growing through and out of what is normally just a piece of machinery. Exploded and half-liquified zombie drone corpses in the manor flashbacks. In the core collapse scene there is this brief shot of a human skull on a grotesquely unnaturally elongated spine curling over a pair of consoles with unspecific red flesh and tendrils already growing around them and off of them within a few minutes max?
These are not a clean blend of biology and machinery, this is biology and machinery haphazardly slamming together as the Solver prepares to eat the planets core.

>>354091 >implying there's literally any point to focusing sunlight
If the critters on the surface COULD die by light then they'd be dead already: the point of a Liquidation is to clear out things mobile enough to avoid the sun or durable/low Solver enough to not worry about it in the first place.
Those FUCKING solar arrays are just some dumbass nunoble's pet project that they won't let go of. What's the point of "solar annihalation" if the beam's condensed enough to light regular humans on fire? Saving their souls? Can't think of any reason beyond the religious you'd bother with the things...
>>354091 Carpet nuclear bombing, in my opinion, is the most sensible option: it is much cheaper and easier. But, yeah, we will have to smoke out the last creatures from their deep holes.
Those are just your survivors proper: any group smart, strong, and tough enough to survive on a mutueworld without getting infected themselves is more than worthy of the title
As for the merely "less mutated" types... best not to talk about them yes? Especially given how hard they can cockblock a crusade if they try...
>>354111 Not quite, these solverforms still generate whats basically a supersized DD laser and it suffers from atmospheric diffusion. This creature can generate a beam powerful enough to knock down transorbital fighters and bombers but its too diffuse by the time it gets that high to do any serious damage to an orbiting capital ship. These were grown in response to offshore blazer-equipped battleships and long distance rocket artillery incinerating a portion of the infected New Sydney relatively early in the outbreak prior to Solver creatures escaping the coasts of Australia and spreading to the rest of the Earth. The smaller anti-aircraft form evolved soon after Solver creatures escaped Elliot manner and a wing of fighters were dispatched to bomb the manor itself. By the time a nuclear attack was considered there were already too many of them roaming about for any bomb or missile to get through their overlapping zones of fire.
>>354121 Personally, I don't think there would be any "leftover solver worlds" The end state of a solver conquered planet is to shatter and be devoured by a singularity. I think the show makes it clear that Cyn doesn't have any desire to KEEP the planets once she has them, she wants to EAT them until there's nothing left.
>>354123 I could see there being monsters like what I've drawn or cultists during the conquest of a planet, but once it reaches the stage where a core collapse can be set off I would assume all of these pawns will be forfeit except for the ones Cyn has taken a liking to for some reason, like the DD crew any favorites would just perish and be spawned somewhere else Cyn needs them.
>>354088 Liam's work Puppet Game has a premise for machines growing flesh, btw. I forget the details but I'm fairly sure it's the basis for solver drones being full of meat.
>>354122 >she wants to EAT them until there's nothing left To be fair Earth still has a few sizeable chunks tethered to the singularity in spite it being at-minimum several decades since it started being consumed. Whether this means Cyn is just taking her sweet time eating her leftovers or she's deliberately preserving pieces of planetary bodies post-collapse for Reasons is up to interpretation
>>354139 Well, I may not be the guy who always whines uselessly about it, but I'm going to go out on a pretty stable feeling limb here and say I somehow doubt that theres whole cities of 40k cultists and mutants down there for heroic liquidator marines to do battle with, nor do I think its believable within the boundaries of the settings technology scale that even if humans survived and returned that they'd have either the interest or ability to piece a shattered planet back together to live on.

Come to think of it... there's some interesting opportunities with "remnant" areas like this: precious metals, blueprints, manufacturing plants, bunkers, pretty much everything is free for the scavenging/repurposing on such worlds. Add in how the Union is never fucking going there(reasons obvious) + their proximity to major human habitations/shipping lanes(because they used to be populated colonies) and you've got the perfect location to set up pirate bases. >>354120 We already have missiles that fly so fast and at such an angle that no modern air defense can shoot them down, plus the nuclear bomb itself does not need to fall on the ground itself, they explode several kilometers from the ground, so creating 100% defense against a nuclear bombing is simply physically impossible.
