You'll probably notice a massive decrease in interest overall. It's sort of a thing with 4/co/ (and 4chan as a whole) that once a thread stops being posted consistently, especially daily ones, any interest it may have had just starts drying up. The Unofficial Threads might do better just because they're Sonic comics, but there probably won't be as high of a turnout as there once was.

Thats also ignoring the possibility that the lowered amount of threads would give justification for schizos who weren't there for the originals to go "what the fuck is this" on every thread and just start a campaign to get rid of them. Because I've seen that happen plenty of times.

Exactly what Archie Sonic needed at the time. He did a fantastic job of streamlining the canon and giving actual payoffs to all of Penders' storylines that always seemed to be coming in the next issue. Dude actually salvaged Locke as a character. He's certainly not perfect (house of cards, how he writes Tails in general), but I enjoyed his work.
That said, working at IDW has brought out his (and Evan's) worst habits. Slow, meandering plots where nothing happens, preoccupation with the meta (the game, song lyrics as dialog, etc), and characterization that completely misses the mark (Forgivnic in particular). I hate to say it, but I think he's running out of ideas for Sonic stories and is stretching things out for a paycheck. I also think the insular culture of IDW's creative team (they're all friends with each other) has lead to the weird characterization. I'm all for fagging up Sonic, but no one cares about crying lesbians. I'm admittedly biased here, and while I don't expect an entire issue devoted to Sonic and Knuckles graphically plapping, it wouldn't kill them to have a pair of male OCs occasionally hold hands affectionately.

It's true! I infodump a lot on the Maekawa Master Plan™ but that's not even the whole story! Maekawa almost certainly knew Black Knight would be his last time writing for the series and decided to sneak in the resolution to his master plan through the metaphor of Camelot. Merlina's clearly Maria's stand in (wants to preserve the world, friends with and needs the help of a talking hedgehog, famous and powerful grandfather) that he helps move on from the past, and in the end he learns that his true identity is that of a powerful warrior with an important destiny who disappeared some time ago (King Arthur/the ultimate lifeform).

I think one of the issue is that he not only had to work from scratch, but he is also not allowed to actually adapt games. Say what you want about the Reboot, but he seemed liked he had a lot of fun actually adapting the games and making callback to the 8bit games.

Cue the IDW comic, where he not only lack all the Archie lore building, but is not even allowed to build on any Sega existing game-story aside from Force. That and I think the end of Archie Sonic, just like Evans said might have caused some moral debuff to his creativity.

Yeah, if you include his soft reboot when he started at Archie, the Pendering reboot, and the SGW reboot, IDW was his fourth time redoing the canon. Having reread my post, I was probably too harsh on him there.

I actually really liked his Archie reboot and it had really hit it's stride by the time it got cancelled. There was definitely some cool stuff planned with the trolls and the origin of super forms that we'll never get to see until Flynn retires.

Couldn't agree more on IDW. They hired a writer that's best placed for worldbuilding and integrating various aspects of the canon, only to tell him he has to set things in the post-Forces continuity but without all the cool stuff (no Infinite, no Death Egg and none of the interesting locations like that futuristic city). He probably had to fight just to adapt some aspects of Heroes. I honestly don't blame him or anyone else on the team from being burnt out. I do think he's phoning it in to a certain extent, and he's definitely stretching out plots, but I'd be doing the same

Yup. Whenever there's not a new decent Sonic thread up, I just peruse /co/ (or at times /v/) for good horror threads, and carefully cultivate the ones that are. It's even easier now that we no longer have daily threads and discussions.

Nowadays, I spend the vast majority of my time on 4chan on /trash/'s unfiction horror general.

Yeah, people are too fucking hard on Flynn. The guy basically does not care at this point - at least for the comics. Even Shadow, a character he has literally admitted is his FAVORITE Sonic character and who he gave multiple cool scenes to in Archie both pre and post-reboot, basically gets written out of the setting under him because he's literally so mandate-crippled that nothing can be done with him. But somehow /sthg/ takes this to mean that he just doesn't get the character or setting...for some reason?

I'm glad he seems to be enjoying writing for the games at least, because those mandates probably take more time to write around than it does to come up with stories for the comics.
I complain about Forgivnic a lot, but SoJ really butchered Shadow. I completely agree with Flynn refusing to include him in stories, it's just not worth the effort. Having read some of the comments from the Boom writers, Shadow had so many restrictions they had to make him live in a cave and never crack a single joke. That's why we only got 1/3 of the Chaotix and they ended up relying so heavily on the OC characters. Interestingly Big the Cat actually had the most restrictions.

Those restrictions on Big are probably why Final Horizon out of the blue retconned it so he was never actually on the islands and it was just an elaborate construction of Cyberspace from Sonic's memories...who looks and acts exactly like the original.
