I think any character should be able to defeat any other character under the right circumstances. For Metal, it should be tough for Knuckles or Shadow to defeat him, but they should be able to do it since they've sparred with Sonic and can anticipate Metal's movements. Tails could probably beat him with the right tech and subterfuge, but on in a direct battle

This artist draws her with a more realistic bat nose. The darker skin is probably from the terrible lighting in the GameCube and PC ports that made Rouge and Knuckles' muzzles look darker. As for the outfit, I think both Amy and Rouge could've used a redesign

That'll be the real test of Sega's new direction. It's all hot air until they actually demonstrate their willingness to include Sticks in something other than Sonic Channel art and Olympics games. Yeah, I can see that. But in SA2 Sonic and Shadow go super with one set of emeralds. In 06 Sonic shares his superness with Shadow and Silver at least. Knuckles was able to de-super Sonic through his connection with the ME, but for the SUCC, I assumed Eggman had built a device that can disrupt someone's connection to the emeralds, causing them to de-super and for the emeralds to drop out of the special zone.
I wish they'd just explain all this stuff! It's probably for the best though, Iizuka would probably come up with something mega stupid

Considering it's happened in several games, you'd think more fanworks would've focused on the implications of bestowing super forms on others versus just using the emeralds at the same time. Personally, I think a bestowed form should put more stress on the one gifting the powers, but with the benefit that they can empower people that might not be able to sustain their own super form.

We also haven't had any distinction between the super forms derived from the Master Emerald versus the Chaos Emeralds. I'd imagine the ME's super forms would be more about balancing and absorbing energy. A ME-based Super Knuckles wouldn't be as powerful as Super Sonic, but would be able to absorb his attacks and redirect the energy back at him. I'd also make it require regular contact with the ME, since regular super forms require collecting seven emeralds (and because Mecha Sonic had to keep recharging in his fight with Knuckles)

Not suggesting you should use these ideas in your comic though, I'm just trying to work out what I want to do with them. I've been thinking about a super form based on the Time Stones, where it manipulates time/causality instead of space like the emeralds, but time powers are inherently OP so it's tricky.

Same. I've been thinking of it in terms of string theory, where gravity's comparatively weak to the other forces because it "leaks" out through extra dimensions. My idea would be that chaos energy is all that extra gravitational energy, which is why it can warp space and time. Different people can innately use it for different things, like Tails and Rouge using it to fly by somewhat counteracting gravity. There's no way they could naturally fly with tails or wings that small. Sonic obviously uses it to warp spacetime around himself, making time move more quickly for him. Knuckles increases his strength by manipulating inertia, putting more behind his punches. Actually, they all manipulate inertia, which is how they never seem to get that injured from falls or battles. All this would be second nature to them, but they probably wouldn't be consciously aware they're using chaos energy. I plan on having Gerald be the first to formally study chaos energy in a scientific way

Still not sure how to handle magic users, but elemental based chaos energy would be a good way to do it. I do like the idea of a skill tree, where characters learn how to manipulate it in new ways throughout the story

Yeah, I was thinking about it that way too. Everyone can already access some amount of chaos energy (some more than others), but the emeralds give them a much bigger pipe. I also think the badniks are just piggybacking on the mobini's connection to the special zone/chaos force to power themselves.

When martial arts series handwave everyone being able to naturally train to get super strong because Ki/Chakra exists that is about the absolute limit.

Treat the story like a puzzle. Work on the corners (overall story idea) and then work your way inward. Get the broad stuff out of the way first and then you'll be able to put in the smaller stuff. I've gone through so many versions of stories, especially for Sonic, before settling on one thing. If I started the series months before then it would've been completely different.

This comic is so fucked up. What I find fascinating is how clearly the original continuity shines through the fetishistic lens. Most comics like this just use a canon and its characters as generic backdrop and templates to act out their fetish, but this one goes to the trouble of fully integrating the fetish into the world, (mostly) preserving the characters and setting. I think it works pretty well having Nicole be the inadvertent villain since she's an AI. Allowing them a second chance at the childhood that was stolen from them is an act of kindness from a solely logical standpoint. This story would make for a good team building and trust story. There are two ideal ways to do it. First would be the usual of catching Mimic in the act and exposing him there. Another would be Whisper privately telling Lanolin before and they come up with a plan to expose Mimic in a way he doesn't see coming. The way the previews come off feels like even if Mimic is exposed and kicked out, there will be lingering distrust among the team. Ousting Mimic with Silver could be the perfect way to pull the Diamond Cutters closer.

Decided to read the IDW thread and now I'm mad. Some notes (spoilered in case anyone wants to read the comic):
It's just 42 pages of Sonic running around doing nothing.
They hint at StC using a watercolo(u)r style for a few pages
They hint at the OVA by having Eggman fight Sonic in an anime mech in that ruins of New York
They mention "big oof" because they're salty babies
There is absolutely no hint of Archie that I could see. Admittedly I did glaze over it since it was mega-boring
Shadow's gone full Vegeta but he does stand next to Rouge. Sonic makes a point to not say "Shadow and Rouge." Can't have the readers thinking they're friends or anything!
There's no meaningful talk between Sonic and his friends about what they mean to each other, which you'd expect in a milestone comic
And worst of all: THERE WAS NO FUCKING ROUGH AND TUMBLE!

I think it's Flynn's weird overcorrecting. Penders used to leave all these loose ends, but Flynn seems to want to shove everything he's done with in a vault. Kinda ironic considering he's most famous for taking those loose ends and turning them into interesting stories.

I'd like a blank slate too. Forces was the worst game to come after, since they couldn't use any of those locations or Infinite (not even in a flashback!). It's only been the last few issues where they could go to game locations that weren't Green Hill or the Master Emerald Shrine.

It definitely is. I've enjoyed a lot of Evan and Ian's writing, but the whole creative teams become too incestuous and cliquish. I'm not sure there's anyone on the current creative team that hasn't done fan stuff with at least one of them.
I hate to say it, but another major issue is the current staff's too tied to Archie. Whether it's reusing scrapped plots that don't fit (metal virus) or trying to fill in the gaps with other characters (Sally in particular has had several), it just leaves everyone unsatisfied
