The Unofficial Ride continues here! You'll find various Sonic fancomics and you can talk about it all here. Updates for comics can be posted here as well and anyone can contribute.
Just don't post anything NSFW. There are Sonic porn threads here: https://boards.plus4chan.org/pco/catalog.html?search=sonic
Let's start with a comic that is totally not a SFW fetish that a person with very deep pockets have commissioned several artists to make comics of. This is Sonic's Mistake!
>>441782 Rouge's costume just doesn't work without those huge tits. And that's it for now! Last page wasn't that long ago so I expect more to come out over time.
>>441781 >>441782 >not pre-genesis Sally's outfit That's it, I'll just have to draw my own femme Tails. >>441790 Why fix what doesn't dissuade traffic?
>>441769 This place seems place seems fitting for the more cursed material without the danger of getting taken down but don't expect to be too popular Like seriously, the last post on this website right now are in this thread
>>441795 >Like seriously, the last post on this website right now are in this thread I imagine our Conductor will link us from the IDW thread whenever there's a new thing. That's how the 2 other threads were lively. Or at least someone else linked it when the Conductor was sent to the shadow realm surprisingly only the one time.
>>441797 Linking in the IDW thread is like leading lions to an orphanage with a trail of fetuses. I'd only do it in fancomic threads. So maybe when a new issue of ASO or Sonic Legacy comes out then I'd make a thread on /co/. And I'll keep plugging this thread in the TGT threads.
>>441795 >Like seriously, the last post on this website right now are in this thread plus4chan has always been the backup board for /co/. It's just that too many people forgot about it. That also means it is much slower. You check it a once or twice a day, not every 5 minutes.
Sally thread got nuked. Good riddance. I guess the mod hating on Sonic threads is back. Then again the lewd Sonic M comic (that I saved) got removed along with Rotor-anon but I saw that coming a mile away and was more surprised those posts stayed around as long as they did. Only downside about the Sally thread being gone is that I wanted to at least talk about the future IDW covers.
Well it's nice that this thread exists at least. Dunno how popular it will be in the future but I guess we'll see. Man I remember using this site ages ago to find links to episodes of Wakfu when that was airing.
>>441807 At least we can still talk here, the storytime recess thread got nuked as well and there wasn't even anything weird (other than that Belle image). >>441810 >Wakfu Love that show. It's a real pain the best rips are from the Blu-rays, which were encoded 24FPS instead of 25FPS so everything's a little slower.
>>441815 >Love that show. It's a real pain the best rips are from the Blu-rays, which were encoded 24FPS instead of 25FPS so everything's a little slower.
huh, I just noticed that. The difference isn't really noticeable though, and iirc you can reclock that (the audio pitch will change a little if you do, not sure if the bluray comes with that pre-fixed). Watching 24fps movies at 25fps with everything running just a tiny bit faster used to be a pretty common thing in PAL land, I'm surprised to see the opposite happening for once.
>>441816 It's only 4% slower but it's really annoying (at least for me), you can tell most easily in the lower pitch of the opening song. The online rips unfortunately don't fix that, I have no idea how Ankama messed that up. Yeah PAL land gets fucked over massively. Sonic 1 on the megadrive/genesis isn't even re-timed, so the game's just 17% slower unless you mod the console to run at NTSC speed.
>>441817 >Sonic 1 on the megadrive/genesis isn't even re-timed, so the game's just 17% slower unless you mod the console to run at NTSC speed. None of the Sonic games are re-timed, they all run slower in PAL versions. Sonic 1 only has it worse because it doesn't have the *music* tempo fixed. The sequels at least fixed that.
>>441819 I know what the hell? There wasn't even anything racey in there unless a mod thinks that Tamers gifs are racey enough to just delete the thread.
>>441818 Yeah, that's why I modded my megadrive to support NTSC and Japanese region games. I've played the games at 60Hz for so long I'm absolutely shit at them at 50Hz. >>441820 Whoops, that was me. But in my defense, it did have a shirtless Bartleby.
>>441821 haha, by the time I modded my Megadrive for 60Hz, Sonic was probably the last game I cared about playing. Sonic is still pretty damn fast even in 50Hz mind you. Streets of Rage 2 in 50Hz, now that one was criminal. However it was also one of the few games that added extra lines in PAL mode, so after modding it to 60Hz I kept wondering why I can't see part of the manhole on the first stage.
>>441823 It gets weirder, check Sonic Spinball. That game had music optimized for the European release to a degree that it fixes a bunch of issues from the original release, and even extends one song. So it ends up having better music for the options screen, the story intro, and Lava Powerhouse (which is almost half the ingame tunes).
>>441827 >I always think of it as a uniquely American/Archie based game Nobody really cared about that part, over here it was just considered a game that extended the sonic 2 casino zone into a lower budget title.
>>441829 yeah, exactly, and here in Europe they were just considered some of the usual bunch of random animals that you save in Sonic games. The fact they were specific characters did not dawn on me until much, much later, when they started bringing the cartoon over (which I had to watch it via satellite on german channels...). And even then, Spinball used very early designs on many characters, so they didn't even look like they did on the cartoon. I think I only recognized them by accident. It also didn't help that some of the cartoons used characters from the games directly (Grounder, Coconuts).
So yeah, it absolutely did not matter to us which one was the original, at the time. It only started mattering some years later when some sonic fan communities went full retarded in trying to differentiate between the godly original Japanese vs the USA-made imposter Sonic content. That was back when anime started gaining traction and everything Japanese made was the most awesome thing.
>>441825 Yeah, it's a frustrating tradeoff. Do you get a better picture or do you get proper timing. I'm glad we don't have to deal with that on the newer consoles, not that I play them much. >>441835 >*Whips out cock* L-lewd! >>441846 >I'm sure there are some stories where that is the case. He's usually paired with Gadget, and it's very cute. >>441847 That's frustrating, I'd have liked to know what fuckery GUN was up to. >>441849 Wait, so I could post the full uncensored Trick with the Hat here? That said, it is kinda fun censoring them into SFW versions.
>>441851 >Wait, so I could post the full uncensored Trick with the Hat here? That said, it is kinda fun censoring them into SFW versions. I'd say that uncensored porn, even spoilered, might still be a problem. There's still /pco/ and they have Sonic porn threads and /coq/ which is for gay porn. I know that on /pco/ you can have some pages that would go on /coq/ or /cod/ if the entire comic isn't about it.
>>441859 Flashback if you want some time fuckery and the most satisfying conclusion to MUH RIA. https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/129174400 Someone did a rewrite for Shadow during the Metal Virus Arc if you hated how he was written in the official comic. https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/128783388/#128785607 Insanity is a good edgy comic about Shadow being haunted by an evil Maria. https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/129092068/#129093020 An Enigma in the Shadows is a Sonic Boom comic with Shadow teaming up with Amy. Not Shadamy but it's still interesting. https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/129377405
>>441863 Not until the artist is confirmed dead and any said confirmations must disprove the possibility they're being held in Guantanamo in an effort to prevent them from perfecting their art.
I want to draw a Sonic fan comic, I've been reading the backlog of the Ride and, honestly, my art is shit but I think it could be fun. Besides, Nuzlocke wasn't exactly Picasso when he first started, right?
>>441866 Go for it! And if you want, you can post any completed pages here. I only say completed so this thread doesn't become a brainstorm thread filled with spitballing ideas and WIPs.
>>441861 >Team Dark: Supernova Odyssey That comic's fantastic, It feels like a genuine spinoff from the franchise. I'd also recommend The Heart of a Monster https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/128669572 It really improves on the plot of Unleashed and the art's fantastic. >>441866 Definitely go for it, the best way to improve your art is to have an ongoing project like a comic. I'd recommend having the first few pages done before posting, that way we'll have more useful comments.
>>441869 What a coincidence, I'm both of those people you're replying to. Thanks for the comic rec, I'll read it next, just about to read through Insanity. If I go through with the comic idea I'll take that advice, too. I'll probably make about 6 or 7 pages before I post them so that I've got the ramping up of quality and also a buffer of work. >>441867 Thanks, Conductor, I'll make a start this weekend and if it's not too shameful I'll post something at least
>>441886 I live with my family, my man. If I did that, Id have to fucking explain myself to all of them.
>lewdposter If you're talking the first lewdposter, dude was flat out gone for around 3 days before coming back. The others picked up the slack in the meantime.
>>441887 I'm talking about their last post during sonic frenzy the post they made before that thread got nuked (banned) they came back just to make that last post.
>>441890 They're all banned. At least all of the commercial ones. Literally the only way around a 4chan ban is a full IP reset, and that won't work if you have a static IP.
>>441892 And have to explain to them why shit changed in the morning or why they can't access anything? Nah. I'll probably just wait out the ban. I'll miss the Ride, but I can always just lurk the threads or talk about shit here. Boring compared to participating in the threads as they start, but it doesn't have me jumping through nonsense hoops to spit in the eyes of the faggot mods.
>>441891 >>441892 If your IP is static, then usually you need to change the MAC address of the router and restart it. If your IP is dynamic, just reconnect to the net (PPPoE).
I can't think of any service that would start bitching because the IP is now different.
>>441894 Schizo Sonic's always a highlight, I don't think we've had a single comic with one that wasn't fun. >>441902 It's also a good idea to reboot your router every so often, it can fix a lot of intermittent issues. There's also phoneposting, but my phone network's rangebanned most of the time so I don't usually bother. >>441903 Ironically, we did cover a bleach-inspired comic with Sonic the Hedgehog: Bleak circumstances https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/128595452/#q128598705
I always felt like Mecha Sonic was underrated when it comes to evil Sonics. Aside from STC Super killing everyone, it's pretty much the ultimate bad end for Sonic in that he's controlled by Eggman and at best merely hesitated when following orders like giving Knothole's location. He's only in two issues and that's it. Imagined if Sonic got roboticized instead of Sally when the world roboticizer was destroyed. Imagine Eggman modifying Sonic. Imagine him trash talking and picking on the insecurities of his friend. Imagine the absolute seething Metal would have seeing Eggman doting on Mecha Sonic.
Also better than that Sonic Man design World's Unite.
>>441918 Well there was the unexpected baby....hahahaha and that artist did do a bad end sonic into metal sonic comic but thats been removed from the internet so rip
>>441918 Sonic getting roboticized is usually considered too grim for it to be a lengthy thing, so I can understand why it isn't used much (or if it is, they give him his free will back pretty quickly). Unexpected Baby did it and that comic...well, we don't like talking about that comic.
>>441931 I was going to write a long detailed response on why you're an absolute fucking moron for comparing a book vs a trope but I'd rather not shit up the thread anymore than you already have.
>>441936 And that just makes it even more sad. Plus the fact that his corpse got raped by Troll Face and fucking NOBODY has avenged him yet.
Speaking of, even though he (and Rob) are easily the only ones doing any work against the trolls, it's fucking hilarious how TGT Silver has such a short range on his powers that he couldn't snag Troll Face. Or at least remove his gun.
>>441918 That would've been perfect as a 3–4 issue arc, anything longer and the fans would riot. Would've loved that to be his modified and upgraded form, Spaz really is great at the anime mech look. >>441952 Scandalous!
>>441970 More or less. Aside from having a second personality talking to him, this is the most basic Sonic personality. Carefree and loving fighting Eggman and nothing else. Maybe even Genesis era Sonic.
>>441973 It'll be interesting to see how this thread fares after I finish TGT. I do have other comics that I will post in this thread, I just need to finish TGT first.
>>441978 Well I keep it open in a side-tab, I check it once a day or so. I hope it prospers, I like most of the people who read The Ride and would like to see them post here. It's been a fun series of threads with the memes and the OC's. I'd rather this place avoids the antagonistic bullshit that normal 4chan attracts in Sonic threads. I'm sick to fucking death of reading the same dumb arguments about Fleetway/IDW/Archie.
>Amy rape tonight as the Unofifcial Ride winds down Oh fuck
>>441978 I'll still check in here (especially now that my ban is expiring tomorrow), but I'm not really expecting this place to blow up with discussion or posts like the Ride threads on normal /co/ do. Too obscure for the majority of people to bother jumping over to post in. Admittedly, that does cause the worst shitposters to fuck off, but it's still unfortunate.
>>441989 The comic's not that far along, maybe we'll get a schizo Tails too? >>441992 >Weeb foxes are lame. Web foxes are hot! It's too bad very little of the porn focuses on the male foxes.
>Pori is an actual goddamned catboy I never noticed this, but I think that was mostly the early art and the fact he was wearing stuff to cover his ears a lot of the time.
>>441994 >>441995 Archie might beat him on pure scale, but TGT Eggman is easily the most purely reprehensible and twisted of them all. Even Jimbotnik wasn't this bad and he explicitly wanted to run torturous experimentation on a child.
Image:165484079841.png(3.71MB, 2000x2616)1 - Character awards.png
>>441999 Thanks again Konductor-kun! I'll repost the awards here for posterity.
No surprise here, it's Stripes the Racoon! I wouldn't mind buying him a coffee! Despite being a delinquent and not technically a twink, Vulture!Silver's won, making Stripes and Silver the official best twink couple! I didn't expect gay cowboy Knuckles to win best himbo, but I'm glad enough of you enjoyed the ~after dark~ storytime. Sorry THoaM!Sonic, maybe next time! Technically this Knuckles is bi, but you should check out the comic with Rouge to confirm! Narrowly beating Omelette, it's everyone's favorite Shadow fangirl Jolt! With such a cute and comfy depiction of SonAmy, it's no surprise ArsworldS!Amy won here. No surprise here either, it's the erotically terrifying Hangin' Out!Tikal! Despite not having spider limbs or a dark compact with the Tails Doll, Brotherhood's Twist!Tails has won here. I will concede he is pretty hot though. Very close here, but it's everyone's favorite spider twink Nax! Tikal again, I love her so!
>>442000 Trips again! Now for the next category, the comic awards:
No surprise here, it seems we all have a deliquent Silver-shaped hole in our hearts. Congratulations to The Vulture, may you someday see a continuation in some form. This one was a surprise. While an excellent comic, I never considered Scourge: Eternal Blackout particularly edgy. Taking home another award, it's Brotherhood's twist! I'm sure you all just voted for this one because older Tails is hot though. Hangin' Out bros, we just can't stop winning! Of course going from a fairly standard romance story to Tikal throwing GUN trucks and Orbot basically ruling the world, how could it not win? And proving there's no groupings you anons won't fuck with, Tails Forces has simultaneously won best shitpost and best comedy! Sonic can't find the bathroom bros, we were robbed!
>>442001 And the third category, the content awards. There's so many I won't make individual commentary here. I will mention that I've made the preliminary results available here if anyone's interested: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSegWYJri9nckDLcL5wRjpciJ6EIX87R0SqP4p77ehLwpZlOHQ/viewanalytics
Image:165484092646.jpg(1.17MB, 1421x2799)4 - Individual character awards.jpg
>>442002 Individual character awards: Being one of the most prolific Sonic fan creators, it's no surprise one of Okida's has taken home the award for best portrayal of Sonic. With a comfy friendly rivalry with Sonic, Eggman from the e-vay Boom comics has won here. Again proving that the Boom continuity is the most comfy! You people have no taste, he doesn't even have spider limbs, a dark compact with the Tails doll, or taken over the world! He is very hot though. I'm glad to see you're all as much a fan of KrazyELF's gay cowboy Knuckles as I am. It's everyone's favorite ping pong champion, Hangin' Out!Amy! Looking great in legwarmers and Sonic's shoes from the OVA, it's Mike from Hangin' Out! It's unanimous, Omega's a great addition to any comic. It's Splinter the Hedgehog! Another win for our favorite delinquent! No surprise here, it's GotF!Blaze and her beautiful Fire! If only the Zone Cops had just done their jobs.
>>442005 Yeah, I should've been more clear on the voting. >>442006 Honestly, even twink-thirstposting was becoming an effort towards the end there, actually storytiming all those comics everyday for so long must have been a Herculean effort. I'm looking forward to the more relaxed pase.
>>442005 >>442007 At least Hangin Out won like, 6 different awards. As it rightfully deserves. Also Trick With The Hat won multiple for some ungodly reason.
>>442006 Yeah, you'll only be doing it every other day of the week as it suits your whimsy. When you're still here, as a Conductor, can you say that you're ever truly free? You're still on the Ride.
>>442011 Only this portion of the Ride is over. If you're an insane masochist of the highest order, there's the IDW Ride and Conductor of Pain intends to finish up Chaos after that and probably whatever other horrors he can scrounge out. And there were a TON of comics that the Conductor passed over throughout the duration of the Unofficial Ride, plus a ton of extra material for various comics we DID do plus comics that only came out recently and couldn't make it, plus ones that are continuously updating like TGT and others, as well as comics Conductor was aware of but didn't have time to add PLUS random officially published shit that nobody has done yet.
We weren't fucking joking when we said the Ride never ends.
>>442012 I know, i know, but now things a bit up in the air without the unofficial conductor on the steering wheel, don't know what his thoughts are but i would be exhausted if i had to do this every night on the dot for 9 months, who knows what happens after this
>>442020 Conductor is probably getting a nice long drink, taking a nap, and jerking it to feet after doing the Ride for so long. Not necessarily in that order either.
>>442009 It really is a great comic, I'm glad it won so many. I was really surprised about Trick with the Hat. I figured most hetros wouldn't be that into it, even if I did cut all the gay parts out. While KrazyELF mostly does Sonadow, gay cowboy Knuckles is definitely my favorite. >>442020 I'm looking forward to the more relaxed pace personally. I'll finally have time to complete that spreadsheet with all the comics The Ride™️ covered.
>>442010 I do really like Sonic fancomics and even became obsessed with finding more. In fact, it made me want to make my own Sonic fancomic but I decided to start an original comic instead. I will shamelessly reveal it. But will keep talking about it to a minimum. This thread is primarily about Sonic fancomics. I'm the writer, not the artist.
https://ptpcomic.com/ Even made a thread here https://boards.plus4chan.org/co/t442013.html
I still want to make my own Sonic fancomic. It still refuses to leave my head. >>442011 I think moving things here for those that want more is fine. More laidback although I'll miss the amount of anons we usually got. I'll still be active around here and continue posting any comics and updates I find.
>I think moving things here for those that want more is fine. More laidback although I'll miss the amount of anons we usually got. Eh, I'll probably either post a link to here in whatever non-IDW Ride thread we have in the future or if one isn't up, I'll just make it so people can post updating or new comics in it. Might even make threads myself for discussing all the fancomics, after checking and making sure there's another thread to distract all the violent spergs. I've already seen a couple anons express similar ideas over there, so I wouldn't even be the first.
There was also at least one anon who wants to redo STC, so we could almost talk there if that ever heard fruit. Would probably be after IDW though.
>>442030 As you may know, I'm a huge Sonallyfag. I came up with an AU that took place after Sonic 3 & Knuckles where Sonic and Tails would get a home in Mobotropolis where everything was paid for by the Acorns. Sonic meets Sally, they spar, start exploring ruins together, become close friends, and that would be the start of their romance. Alicia would be a powerful sorceress and Sally would inherit that. Ultimately, Sonic would get magical power ups from Sally and they would learn to tap into different forms of magic. For Sonic that would augment his natural skills and it would change his fur color. From there it would be adapting Sonic Adventure and beyond while mixing in OC stuff. But I just changed things up and made a new comic. Now I have a whole other Sonic comic in my head.
>>442027 Honestly, every character looks hotter in leather or goth fashion. Some of the more unisex outfits actually work pretty well on the guys too. The Tangle and Shade outfits are a good example here (minus the eyelashes). >>442028 >Conductor makes a comic, cover has a cute twink on it. Glad to see you've been taking notes! The dino girls look cute too, which is generally hard to pull off. I like the purple one better though because she gives off a dom-goth vibe. >>442031 Just be sure to mention Sonic in the post so I can see it! >>442032 >Alicia would be a powerful sorceress Nice! Tamersverse!Aleena will forever be best milf sorceress though. I like the idea of leaning more heavily into magic, considering Robotnik uses technology.
Bad news, I got two full shifts of overtime this weekend which means I won't be able to make my initial comic. Good news, I spent 12 hours a day for the last three days listening to Atreyu, BFMV, A7X, Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin and Nightwish (I'm the anon that suggested "Best Early 2000's aesthetic" to the poll, can you tell?). I have the entire first arc planned and now I simply need put pen to paper.
>>442061 >Is IDW that much smaller of a company ? Marvel is owned by Disney and DC is by Warner, most media companies on the entire planet are the size of peanuts compared to them.
>>442063 Im not comparing it to the giants, but I didnt know that Archie had so much more resources to give compared to IDW. I thought they were both equally small.
>>442061 Archie put out a lot of Sonic content over the years. There was the Knuckles ongoing, a lot of minis and specials in addition to Sonic Universe. Sonic Boom only had 11 issues. IDW has a a few minis and a handful of specials but they haven't yet done a second ongoing for Sonic. There are other franchises that IDW has with multiple ongoings. With them losing Transformers and GI Joe and with Sonic allegedly selling among their best, they might try a second series. But it has to be a big name. Knuckles worked for Archie because he was really popular as a character and I'm assuming his minis did well enough. I doubt Sega would allow Knuckles to have another shot which is a shame. None of the OCs would work out. Chaotix is a maybe. Not Tails. Best candidates would be a Shadow (pseudo Team Dark) series, another side character ongoing like Sonic Universe, or maybe Classic Sonic. A man can dream but a Freedom Fighter ongoing would turn a lot of heads but that's really, really unlikely. But Ian would write that series for free.
>>442064 Archie is (was?) the only comic company who sells their comics at newsstands, while every other company had to rely on Diamond Comics and dedicated comic vendors only. As a result, Archie was consistently among the best selling comics nearly every single week for as long as I remember. However they only had a few books in circulation while Marvel/DC has like up to three dozen each week.
But things may have changed since everyone moved to digital sales. I don't know how they compare to IDW.
Rotor folder of mine, which I have kept care with for a great while. This is on (old, attended nonetheless) request of a certain fellow from months ago who had wondered about myself sharing my collection. Think of this like a souvenir to take after accompanying (suffering, if you must) through the unofficial Ride. So, here's it.
Apologizes for holding this on for so long. I'm not the most prestigious on organizing and relaying to schedules, hence the delay. Sharing's caring, and caring's loving best boy more and more, so don't be afraid to pass it on to other communities.
Gonna link this into the old tyrannical 4chan's Storytiming Sonic threads there, of course.
>>442072 All it takes is one dedicated shitloster to ruin a thread beyond repair, speaking from personal experience. I'll stick around for this first thread, but it's obvious what direction the IDW Ride is heading in after that first "muh Ian is shit" comment. Not worth it to get invested.
>>442070 >>442072 >>442074 I've mostly just been using the thread to discuss fancomics and Unofficial Ride memes. I couldn't give a rat's ass about IDW; the threads are awful and the posters are worse. Only thing it's good for is Zombot porn.
>>442076 It does when said guy is a notorious schizo who will endlessly reply to himself until bump limit if left alone. You fail to understand just how determined the schizo is to ruin all Sonic discussion on the site, and especially when it comes to the comics.
>>442080 He's already posted his usual smug Cosmo image, so it's definitely the usual schizo. And he's even telling (one of) our lewdposter to go kill himself. It's like I never left /sthg/.
>>442056 Glad to hear it, I'm intrigued to see how it turns out! Green Hill Zine was robbed of that award though. >>442066 I'd love a (not) Team Dark series, they could even make it an ongoing joke that everyone keeps mistaking them for a team just because circumstances keep forcing them to work together. >>442070 I had fun at the start, but stopped posting towards the end. >>442071 Very well organized! I'm surprised how many artists I recognized. Anti Dev's done some great Sleengo art. I did laugh when I saw they deleted your post in the IDW thread though, considering they left the pictures of a diaperfur up. >>442073 Mine's not well organized at all, I really need to invest some time learning Hydrus. If you're looking for recommendations, check out KraryELF. Most of it's gay, but there's some hetro stuff too that's really nice too. >>442078 >spoiler I had no idea that's a thing.
>>442087 Thanks for posting more Other M! >>442097 Fair enough, not exactly my thing but I'm in no position to judge. I was looking for lewd Sonic comics for ~after dark~ and found one with a dick plant that makes Sonic crave cock. I was kinda into it by the end. >>442101 In the words of Tesla: You may live to see man-made horrors beyond your comprehension.
>>441769 Sea3on Chapter 8 Page 9 https://www.sonicsatam.com/sea3on/ This is looking to be the start of SatAM Chadtoine. Maybe we'll get genius Tails as well.
Sonic Future may deserve a thread of it's own. I know after I posted the series there were a handful more pages and there's even more. As in 17 pages more since I storytimed it.
>>442107 On the topic of Shadow and furry Maria, I've been looking for new comics to cover and found some great stuff by Zketcherz. Pic related's literally called Shadamy comic and is really good, with Shadow attempting to revive Maria in a cute furry body! Unfortunately, the artist deleted everything about a year ago so it's sadly unfinished. I'll put everything I was able to retrieve in a mega soon, but you can find the comic here: https://www.canterlotcomics.com/comic/en/shadamy-1451 Couldn't exactly link to that place on the other /co/, it's filled with the forbidden horses! Also, I've been having a lot of luck discovering new comics by reverse image searching comics I liked in yandex. It does a fairly good job of finding similar stuff, but watch out for suspicious links! I actually found this comic while trying to find more of Sonic the Hedgehog: Midnight from fireball20xl. >>442108 The author's been super productive, it's really nice to see! >>442109 And only half as arousing!
>>442105 Is it me or are some of the fancomics better quality than the IDW stuff? I see errors, style clashes, rushed covers and poor story flow/"choreography", and I don't want to criticise in depth because I don't want to be cancerous.
>>442108 Sonic Future's great. Like sure it may not have any coloring or any super amounts of detail but what's already there is totally fine IMO. Plus the writing is pretty good and I like the scruffier designs of everyone. Still can't really imagine Sonic being 30 though.
>>442110 Can't wait! >>442111 The cream of the crop, like Brotherhood's Twist and Heroes Come Back, really do put IDW to shame at times. Although those comics have some faults, manly the text and lettering. That said, I would kill to see those comics come out with a new issue every month. I'd even take one new page a week. And some of the comics we've done are drawn by people that do work with IDW. But my main problem with IDW is the writing and editorial.
>>442111 >Is it me or are some of the fancomics better quality than the IDW stuff? Fan comics are a labour of love from one person, maybe two if they have a separate artist. Big company comics are produced for a deadline, so they cycle through writers, artists, etc. so they can fit in that deadline. If the comics are not popular, they shift the team and the storyline altogether. Or they can do a "crossover event", forced on them by editorial, which often forces existing plots to deviate so they can fit the editorial event, turning them into clusterfucks.
IDW is not free from all of those - their Transformers books pinballed between plots and artists so often. Same for their Turtles books, one book has them drawn muscular without irises, the next one they are all round with big fat saucer eyes. I can only assume the same happens for the Sonic comics.
>>442111 Early IDW was pretty rough because it was trying to find it's footing as basically an official fanfiction sequel to the end of Forces. After it gets more into it's own groove I thought it got better, also whenever Evan Stanley is drawing. I love her artstyle and OCs to bits.
>>442113 >Can't wait! That's me uploaded everything I could find. Do check the readme though, there's some important information there. aHR0cHM6Ly9tZWdhLm56L2ZvbGRlci9Scm9EWFQ2TCNYaHdjcHZmd09oSW83dzFqXzlhcUxB >But my main problem with IDW is the writing and editorial. Yeah, whether it's Sega's mandates or something going on inside IDW, it's clear they're not using the artists and writers to their full potential. >>442114 I think it's a combination of being a labor of love, freedom to write and draw whatever they want, and no fixed deadlines. GotF's a great example in that there's no way Sega would let anyone kill off Sonic or have violent and gory things happen. You're definitely right about deadlines, they're really the only thing that matters to publishers. There's also no way Evan could pencil, ink, and color 20+ pages a month in that detailed style. It's also why publishers usually don't let artists pencil and color unless it's a cover. >>442115 I actually like the premise of having a post-Forces setting. Potentially, it allows for fun self-contained low-stakes stories since Eggman's been defeated. It also gives Sonic and friends a reason to tour the planet to see all the new locations and characters, while setting up the plot for Eggman's return. Unfortunately, this ended up feeling bland to me since all the villages looked and felt the same. I wanted something more like Unleashed, where every location has a unique culture, climate, and architecture.
>>442114 >Fan comics are a labour of love from one person >one book has them drawn muscular without irises, the next one they are all round What I meant with my complaint was image related. I'm fine with artist changes and like differing styles (2000AD spoiled me) but I can't tell if the art problems are a skill or time issue but some symptoms for some artists say skill deficiency like blurry default digital brush usage for glow/highlight effects.
The choreography one is harder to explain without examples of doing it correctly. I'm familiar with a 3 panel principle that essentially goes: >introduce scene + character >introduce antagonist/introduce more scene >conflict/action So 2 panels of setup followed by a resolution. I know older Judge Dredd near religiously adhered to that. If I'm to cherry pick an example of a problem, the 4 pages from/to... >131207568 >131207626 ... everything is disconnected. The 1st panel on the last page should be on the previous page with its set up. The last page itself almost works. Sonic carrying her at the end is completely irrelevant to what's going on.
There was a really great cover the IDW Conductor said was by "Gray/Herms" I think? Ctrl+F that on the archive. It looks absolutely professional and something I'd buy for my children if I had any.
>>442118 Damn, when you point it out like that, it's really quite sloppy. >everything is disconnected I think I get what you mean about the disconnection, I had trouble orienting the characters from panel to panel, which is the main purpose of background art. I'm no expert so my critique is mostly limited to not enjoying much of the fight scenes, simplistic backgrounds, some panels having no backgrounds (I absolutely hate characters in colored voids), and a lot of the background characters having weird expressions. I did think Sonic carrying Amy at the end was cute, but it should've been a proper panel instead of just being pasted on top. >Gray/Herms They did two of the covers in that thread. They were both great, even if I don't personally like Gray's style. No worries, it's rare to hear a thought out critique of IDW.
>>442120 Well I'm fresh out, so I guess I'm sorry again. Have a freshly scribbled Sally in compensation. >>442121 >I'm no expert Neither am I... I'm just perceptive. It's not all as bad as I'm making out of course and I don't want to be like the negative nancies on /co/. I've read far too many Beanos to condemn publishers for not training their artists. I can't get a bead on what layout principles they're using to tell stories, I think because it looks like the publisher isn't enforcing any so they all do their own thing. >I did think Sonic carrying Amy at the end was cute Yeah and it was great they put that in. Gotta give her some wins. >even if I don't personally like Gray's style. And you don't need to.
Oh and yeah I agree with you on characters in voids. It's jarring when the voids exist deliberately to say "Look inside the box, I didn't draw anything out here".
>>442131 I can see why didnt feel like storytiming that comic. Besides from being huge, it had plenty of issues where barely anything happened. But it still was nice to see where some of Ian's inspirations in Archie came from.
>>442126 Very nice! Yeah, the art's perfectly serviceable, but it's nice to discuss the actual shortcomings without the lol, IDW sux shitposts. For all the alleged mandates they're subject to, I get the feeling that IDW doesn't have any layout guidelines. >>442128 I get that it saves time, but it's just so lazy and really takes me out of the story. >>442130 Thanks, I'll have to read it soon. >>442136 Does anyone but you believe your lies? >Does anyone but you believe your lies? No worries, take your time >>442139 Dawww, I'm glad she's happy with the results! That (along with all the positive reactions from other anons) makes the time I spent compiling the results worth it!
>>441769 We have blood, cursing, murder, and one horny chipmunk! This comic is from 2001-02 and sports a cutesy anime art style to go with its mature content. And what is this comic called? Kyuuketsuki! Try saying that three times fast.
>>442145 Never thought we'd see a reverse of Sonic Forces but here you go. Oh, and there is a cooldown but a max of 10 seconds which is still infinitely better.
>>442144 Here we go! >>442146 Check out those abs, that vampire's ripped! >>442147 Kinda hot though! >>442149 None of this comic would work if they didn't have necks! It does look good though.
>>442169 Just to be sure, write Sonic's name backwards on something and show it in the mirror. If it spells Dracula then you might be dealing with a vampire.
>>442153 There she is, the queen of vacations! >>442156 There he is, NIN Tails, in rabbit form! >>442157 Pretty hot, ngl >>442163 I'm so used to seeing her in milf form, but she was a robot for quite a bit of the comic's run. >>442165 They did in Archie, at least until the democracy duo came back. >>442169 He definitely would! >>442171 GIWTWM
>>442179 Sally's down for the bondage but not under these circumstances. She's probably still turned on though. >>442178 >They did in Archie, at least until the democracy duo came back. Ah, I kind of glossed over the dark era of Archie.
>>442173 >>442176 2 hawt 4 4chan! >>442177 You just know they're constantly talking shit about him behind his back. >>442180 I enjoyed it, but it definitely had its flaws.
>>442183 Another comic that confirms Sonic's much more attractive when he's evil. >>442186 TFW Sonic will never tie you up and drag you through a sewer. >>442188 Cute fangs! >>442190 Based! >>442192 That is so hard to read. >>442194 Knuckles has excellent taste in tv shows!
>>442118 for reference for the art you're highlighting: >upper left cover Pencils/Inks by Evan Stanley, colors by Matt Herms >bottom left cover Pencils/Inks/Colors by Tyson Hesse >Right hand side Pencils by Tracy Yardley, Inks by either Jim Amash or Bob Smith, and Colors by Matt Herms (Herms presumably being the one doing the motion blur)
shoulda done this in the same post as my previous one >>442126 >I can't get a bead on what layout principles they're using to tell stories >>442141 >I get the feeling that IDW doesn't have any layout guidelines. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by layout principles, but it's worth noting that Ian Flynn is one of those writers who doesn't do his own layouts and lets the artists do them (pretty common in the wider comics industry but back in the really early days of Archie the writers like Gallagher and Penders would do the layouts for the artists)
Would you say that Flynn-era Archie had more consistent layout principles/guidelines? I know that Flynn-era Archie art did look more consistent in that all the pencilers were paired up with the same inker and colorist with each book (rather than IDW, where most artists do their own inks and there's a pool of colorists, though with a few being way more prominent than the others)
>>442222 This really would be hot if it was the one from SonicFutureAU. >>442225 lol he said cock! >>442227 Sonic really needs to find the bathroom in this comic.
>>442236 Vampires in Sonic seems like a great story. Here's a pin-up that makes for a great cover by NextGrandcross. Great artist with an obvious influence from Yardley.
>>442238 I think the oldest I've done is like 2001 for some other comic. Not 100% sure. >>442239 It would be interesting to see how she'd react to other bats. Maybe mad they give her and other bats a bad name.
>>442235 He only murdered commoners. >>442236 Happy ending! >>442237 That looks fantastic! I love ridiculous Dracula castles! >>442238 Reposting a post I made during The Ride: Here's one from 95: http://www.commuterbarnacle.com/gonterman/sally1.html This one's from David Gonterman, the proto-CWC from the 90s. When Penders was going to kill off Sally in endgame, Gonterman made this Sally Protest comic. The editor told Penders to bring her back, so Gonterman thought his comic had defeated Penders. Gonterman also did Blood and Metal, a story where he gets transported into Mobius as a furry with a robot arm, saves the day, and King Max sets him up with Sally.
Here's a post he made advertising one of his comics (zoomers, this was posted on Usenet, it's like a web forum, which is like Discord): >alt.fan.sonic-hedgehog | Aug 7, 1997, 7:00:00 AM >Are you so sick and tired of what Archie has done to the Sonic Comic that you are deciding to dump Sonic Fandom as a while and roam around aimlessly looking for the next fix? >Don't make the mistake some people made over Endgame, and some will make over the Breakup. >Change your comic, and I don't mean go to England to get Fleetway. >Switch fo Sonic: The Mobius Chronicles, written by David Gonterman, the man who strikes fear into Ken Pender's heart. And when you read the kick-tail story with kick-tail art. You'll see why.

>>442242 I like Sally and I'm glad she didn't really die but I wouldn't go that far. Bless the autists for pushing for things that I agree with. Damn them for pushing for things that I don't agree with. I still see stuff like that when IDW started and it was obvious that Sally and the FF wouldn't be allowed to be used again.
>>442242 >Here's one from 95: http://www.commuterbarnacle.com/gonterman/sally1.html Yeah, that first page tells me everything i need to know >WHY SHOULD I EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS SLOBBISH RUDE SNEAKER-SMELLING RUNNING...PINCUOSHIN?!?!?! Already getting these "Sally is actually in love with the author of this comic" vibes
FYI, this site has an RSS feed for each thread. If you use something like the browser extension Feedbro, it'll let you know when there's updates. >>442244 >Unofficial Sonic Storytime I may prefer Sonic with Shadow or Knuckles, but Archie!Sonic and Sally was fantastic (and probably the best official romantic relationship he'll ever get). That image's genuinely touching, at least she had a good run. I still maintain that all the freedom fighters are in IDW, just perpetually off-screen. >>442245 Yeah, Daveykins is definitely in love with her. Blood and Metal was all about this, and was actually massively popular in the fan community back then. People actually made their own fanworks set in the Gonterverse.
>>442250 >I still maintain that all the freedom fighters are in IDW, just perpetually off-screen. Ian's just biding his time. He already pushed for a Sally figurine to be made and the #Rally4Sally campaign. It'd be really easy to set them up as a group being active elsewhere. Getting them back is next to impossible but her and Sonic being a couple is definitely at 0%.
>>442253 Yeah, that's probably why he's been holding on to lost hedgehog tails for so long. Introducing them as an established team for the acorn kingdom/region/whatever would be great. Sonic can never have any romantic feelings with anyone, but they can definitely imply a lot with ambiguous dialogue and body language. I'm sure he'd leave enough hints for fanartists to fill in the blanks. I guess we'll have to see what characters show up in Sonic Prime.
