But the vast majority of people that are very critical and even demanding are ones that don't give any money to that artist. I had one person on DA send me notes about the pages not being uploaded on time because sometimes the website doesn't do it and I have to manually do it hours later. Yeah, the sense of entitlement some people have is mind boggling. they don't seem to get the effort that goes into putting out comics (or anything really) on a regular schedule, and for free too. People that spend a bit of money on the artist genuinely want to see them succeed so their criticisms are almost always constructive.
It happens offline too. We stopped bidding for smaller contracts at work because they always wanted multiple revisions or extra stuff done for free whereas the larger contracts generally just want what they ask for.

The media doesn't like imageboards in general, or really anything that's outside of the mainstream sites. Personally I think it's because imageboards can't show consensus numerically. Using mainstream social media for a story is easy since you can just look at whatever gets the most upvotes/likes/trends or is posted by "important" people. The naughty language and unfiltered opinions probably don't help either.

Apparently it's also really difficult for people only familiar with social media to follow conversations without usernames, since you have to rely on context and writing style to tell people apart. The original games specifically had robot animal bad guys, which if you busted open, a small furry creature popped up and ran away.
So it was clear that in the games, Robotnik turned animals into robot soldiers. Heck you bust open a prison full of them after every boss fight.
The only difference between this and "roboticization" is that in the latter, the animal turns into a robot version of itself. While in the games you can have a small bird come out of a giant robot bee, so it is implied that the small animals are just used as the power source, like in Matrix.

I don't remember how satam/archie handles it, I recall in the show you had uncle chuck flipping back and forth between helping and turning back into a bad guy. I always interpreted that so he got reprogrammed but he was fighting it. So it's neither mind control or body control but more like the same deal as Robocop - mind got blanked, but lingering memories remained. Could be wrong there, I don't remember the show much.

There's still some bugs to work out, but I can now regenerate all 500+ threads in around 30 seconds, which way faster than the 40+ minutes the old method takes. That reminds me of when I started working on the plus4chan codebase. Regenerating threads took so long that it resulted in a timeout and only worked on a second pass because the server cached the last queries. And even then it stopped a few pages in, so the further you went into the pages, the more broken everything because they were generated a longer and longer time ago.

We came a long way since then, pages have sub 0.1s load times now.

That does sound pretty similar. It's easy enough to get something that runs fast on small datasets but quickly becomes unusable once you scale up. For me, replacing an xml parsing library with regex expressions and writing the html as text strings brought in a massive speedup.

Things definitely seem faster since the last overhaul here, and having inherited codebases before I know how hard it can be to make improvements without breaking something. It really is great to see the site continuing to improve, it's such a cozy place to post!

More progress. Some pages have scanning artifacts, making them weird to look at and have massive file sizes. Here's where I'm up to. Right is the original comic, bottom left is the scan with the new coloring, and top right's my attempt at removing the moire pattern. Might try a few different approaches to see what works best.

Fun fact: one of the leading plugins to fix this was probably developed for the Knuckles comics. You can crop your images all you like, but I'll always recognize Knuckles!

I just checked and the dot pattern is in the physical books too. Seems to be a technique that allows more colors to be simulated using limited ink. You get these moire patterns from the interaction between the scanner grid and the grid of the dot pattern. I should be able to preserve the texture without removing details if I fiddle around with the parameters. If only they released digital versions of these too!

Yeah, it was used for that, but it was also the way they had to print colors. Remember this was low-grade printing on low-grade paper.

You are right, I opened the pic on a new tab to see the entire thing, it's just the printing artifacts from not scanning it at a high enough resolution to preserve the "dots". So in that context, filtering it out is correct, I could not see it from just expanding the picture since it is larger than the browser window.

Still, be mindful that the filter is not 100% correct, especially on parts with a lot of detail. For example on the purple shadowy part of the beach, there are a lot of inked lines. These should be clear lines but the filter makes them jagged.

Only way around that would be to work at a far higher resolution scan. But, this is also twice as good as the original, so don't worry about it too much. I'm just picky because most modern comic digitalisations are so horrible.

This one's from one of the collected volumes and the paper's actually pretty nice. I do think they cheaped out one the ink, which is a shame. I actually own the collected versions and they're all much higher quality than the original comics

That's it exactly. You need to go at least double the dpi to properly capture this sort of thing. I was thinking about making it look better and narrowed it down to three options. On the left is after the denoising, top right is adding noise to the black lines, and bottom right is adding a different type of noise to the color as well.

I can confirm that this specific schizo (I think he's different from IDWkun/Pixy, at least in the sense that what sets him off is giving Eggman any level of characterization) samefags. He does it all the time on /v/ and in /sthg/ from what little I saw in there. He usually replies to himself until bump limit in sheer seething over the idea that Eggman treats Sage as his daughter and doesn't hate her.

Man, I had such a crush on Kevin back when this was airing! Interestingly Long John Baldry voiced the princess' father who was trapped in a mirror world not unlike King Acorn.

Fun comic overall, it's nice seeing artists having unashamed fun with their art. I certainly wasn't expecting Vectorman to have a segway mode though, horrifying!

The chest scars thing has always been an... interesting choice that a lot of artists have taken but it's not a dealbreaker for me. I am always wary of anons making a big deal out of it but it's been pretty tame if it ever does come up. I posted one comic with Sonic like that and nobody commented on it. I will say the real sin these comics have done is not be that funny but that just makes it more authentic with real newspaper comic strips.
