Considering Metroid Dread launched right before Queen 2021, Samus being back would have been a gamechanger assuming she didn’t have an upset. Could have seen her either winning outright or propelling the eventual winner depending on who beat her. If, let’s say for an example, Madotsuki beat her in quarterfinals or semi-finals that momentum probably would have overtaken Recette with how close it was in our timeline.

Suffering 65 for having to deal with the Resonance Cascade followed immediately with being tasked with taking down the Combine in City 17, and tournament-wise he's appeared in all years but never made it to Elite Eight, deserved 15 since he kills a lot of people even if it is in self-defense.

It's not impossible, but going to be rough going forward. As discussed several times lately, his 2021 run had way more going for it than 2023. He needs a better pitch than "it's finally his time" if he even has a shot at the crown.

I wonder if Spamton would have actually won in 2021 had he beaten Batter. He had more FOTM backlash behind him, but a lot of the other strong factors going for Batter would have still applied in some fashion. Question might really come down to Spamton vs. Eggman since Nyarly and Morshu were both on the weaker end.

It is interesting to see how good and bad these all have done on /v/ in comparison. They range as far as a tournament winner (Samus) to an embarrassingly bad jobber (Crono). Snake has made Elite Eight twice and Mario got close in 2022, while several here have at least had female companions do very well in Queen.

Other than Crono, who’s actually the WORST pick here? I feel you can make cases for any out of Link, Sonic, or thr FFVII duo.

I was thinking back to the tie between 5th and 6th during Tag-Team last month, and it reminded me of an interesting tidbit: Curly was actually one of the main reasons 5th-8th moved over to the total point system for /v/ if I recall correctly. Alice got the most top votes, but also had quite a few lower votes. People pointed out how Curly would have been 5th if it was averaged somehow, which led to the current system.

Just wild thinking about this in the context of 2023. There's the obvious matter of this alongside the very close Marisa match, but it's also ironic with other major winners in 2023. She would have been another 5th place winner alongside Skeletor, and there's the irony of her ending up with Grimm considering Alice's votes in 2021.

I really like the game's vastness of choice, abstract themes, dark and occasionally humorous mood, and visual style. It feels in some ways like a horror anthology with a consistent framing device. I hope it keeps qualifying and does decently. That said, the threads can get pretty pitiful. Sometimes it's nothing but seemingly turbo lonely people going "WAAAAAAH TFW NO PRINCESS GF" and keep reposting that stupid Out Of My League video. Some of them probably already moved on to newer FOTM girls to proclaim them as their new "waifu for laifu'".

Well, maybe that kind of fandom can at least convince the developers to add more routes to the game, even if they didn't plan on that initially, but they also evidently didn't plan on it blowing up the way it did.

To be quite honest, with the bigger winners the past two years I could see next Queen bouncing back to someone more on the niche side. Last year cleared out a few power players from the bracket, and while they're hardly the ONLY ones there I do think the ones left aren't quite as strong as the likes of Curly or Ammy. The biggest exceptions are Hornet and GLaDOS, but we'll have to see what happens. (Madotsuki could have a huge comeback as well, but right now she's in a hard spot to judge.)
