My theory is that already a good chunk of the votes in 2021 of the characters the discord was supporting were rigged, but after their showings, they got much more legitimate votes and followings. That doesn't make up for what happened here since I still think it was enough to impact the tournament this year and they still were going at it. I hope somebody can poke holes in this post because I don't want to believe there was this much rigging.

The characters still had hundreds of votes before losing and we don't know a number of how many votes were rigged. Some close matches have enough power to change tournament history. This is the problem with riggers. The amount of damage they do is uncalculable for the most part.

The inhabitants of the server said that they use 4chan. Mostly /vrpg/ but also /v/. I think that this entire thing about 'discord rigging' is in reality 4chan users who also use discord to talk to each other about KoV. But at the end of the day, they're no different than people who browse more than one board on the site.

The shitstirrers likely just wanted to incite a last-minute purity spiral/witch hunt at the last moment of the tournament.

I legitimately doubt this discord server had nearly the effect on the tournament that many people here think it does.
What this Discord has done more is it has mentally questioned us on whether or not this was legit and it made doubt each other.

A few examples
Recette R1: 1024 R2: 1235 R3: 1212 R4: 1132 QF: 1479 SF: 1258 GF: 1131
Batter R1: 1159 R2: 1207 R3: 1138 R4: 1456 QF: 1348 SF: 1221 GF: 1418
Garland R1: 1233 R2: 1395 R3: 1090 R4: 1259 QF: 1208 SF: 1145 GF: 1154
The only pattern i could find is that hype matchups bring more voters, like Garland vs Doomguy R2 or Batter vs Spamton R4, so an increase for Grimm in GF wouldn't be out of the norm, considering the meta narrative in the matchup.

Decided to share an unofficial form, mostly on the aftermath of the tournament. This will not be formal in the slightest, so don't take it as a such. It's more a way to gauge how people here on /tnt/ feel about the tournament in hindsight, as well as where people here generally fell on the actual results. (I really don't expect much different here.)

Like I said in the last meta thread, it's literally the same people who stir controversy in the afterparty every single year. They come in last second and create drama near the end of the tournament to ruin them intentionally.

The discord itself is fairly inactive, only around 10-20 people are talking with each other in a given week, most of whom are from /vrpg/ or /v/. The nigger who posted the poll was pretty much ignored the entire time as well. It's fucking stupid that it happened in the first place, but letting funposters ruin an otherwise good tournament is retarded.

alright, i've been funposting trying to lighten the mood but i kind of want to give my own opinion too
to me this is an obvious "oops, i suddenly just found this" thing, guy didn't even link what comment he found the link in. chances are, it was a really sloppy cover-up for him being in the discord and wanting to shit up the threads to chase the thrill of "MY PICK IS THE WINNER HAHA IN YOUR FACE"
considering what people are saying about the actual activity there and how most of them are /v/ and /vrpg/ users anyway, i really don't think there was very much off-site brigading, and i doubt they could have influenced the tourney that much even if they wanted to
i hope some of you niggas can chill a little, there's a high chance this ending is still comfy

How much of that ending can be blamed on the hosts? While Ms. /co/ voted on no rigger transparency back in 2022 to not ruin the reputations of characters forever, NSA suddenly deciding to no longer open the forms and just show screenshots then show nothing in finals is sketchy, especially when he stopped opening the form links only after we were making fun of how low the vote totals were compared to last Ms. /co/. There is no good reason I can think of to hide finale results. This whole finale also might have proved that his secret anti-rigging method might not work and all the hosts halfway through the Afterparty just leaving with no closure leads to more questions. All of this is almost like admitting rigging's going on. I would say he should have just let the forms open and let the anons put two and two together.

Granted, Jacket was bad luck. Someone could have tried to paint him as one of the show's weird guests, but otherwise it wasn't the easiest match-up to just shoehorn. Jacket himself was also formidable with several prominent supporters and generally strong reception, as seen by him getting close against Grimm. That being said, the Nerd could also just be kind of anti-climatic to people. Maybe next year will change people's minds.

What's worse is that we can't know for sure if it really did have any significant impact, so this year will probably be contentious moreso than something you can say is verifiably rigged (sorta like queen 2020 where people got upset over Reimu).

fuck it, made the drawing anyway. I'm not letting dicklicker discorders control me, the anon wanted Grimm to meet Loona with big, fat tits as a parody of Eggman and Rouge in Sonic X and so that's what's he's going to get. No matter what is fake or gay the fun was real and based. Wario vs Eggman 2.0 was the most fun and cozy "fight" I've ever been in and the absolute tidal wave of art in semifinals that made every single contestant look as cool as possible utterly MOGGED every other tourney this year.

No transparency seems good as first. No characters being dragged through the mud and no panic ruining the threads. I understand why non-riggers would vote for it. I was supportive of it when it was proposed. The problem is it requires a lot of host trust and credibility to be pulled off, something NSA was lacking in even in 2022 when it passed. He let riggers progress to not punish their fans instead of just removing the rigged votes regardless that year.
>>74742
He should have at least revealed the doc. Now that all of this is already out in the open and the character's reputations have been destroyed, there is no need for a lack of transparency on the rigging. This however would require him to admit he can't actually figure out what votes are rigged and connect to things like what happpened to Jameson and Nyarly in Qualifiers.

But this fire was pretty much lit because the aformentioned Tifa autist was really easy to bully and posted very annoyingly, ontop of 2hufags having like 2 gazillion memes to make stuff out of.
They ended up putting Reimu's win in self-serve advertisements and had like 10 afterparty threads over a week after the tournament was over.

Most likely, yes. It would have been more concerning had it been a narrow margin (say, Recette vs. Madotsuki close), but people figured the margin was too big in favor of Grimm. Only potential loss could have been John Ward, and that's getting into 100 vote range.

And I might want to take a break from tournaments for a while, half the outrage over this finale is that we're just taking them too damn seriously. I mean nightshift is indisputably the biggest faggot in these, and he's mr "It has to be SERIOUS BUSINESS" every time. So what by this point, we had fun. We need more fun around here, and these should stay that way. Neither organizing a discord to "rig" is fun, trying to cancel an artist for a shitty dog drawing they may or may not have made is fun, nor investigating that statistical anomoly a discord could cause is fun. I'll probably hang out in /tnt/ tomorrow for a bit in case the fox bro wanted to talk about art a bit, and otherwise dive out until Ms /co/. It's overblown. A shitstirrer decided to share last minute that a Black Souls discord was pushing for voting for Grimm, but people keep ignoring key things
>They only started posting during Quarterfinals, so Grimm's run up to this point was still entirely legitimate
>There isn't likely to be high numbers of votes considering the lack of reactions to the announcement post, general low activity of the server, and high likelihood of overlap between the server users and /v/ posters/lurkers
>Even if we highball to 100, none of the results would change except MAYBE Grimm vs John
>Don't forget that their "rigging" clearly didn't help Grimm make it past Round 2 the last two tournaments, nor did it help Alice a month ago
The thing about being rigged back to 2021 is complete nonsense, they were just posting about the tournaments.

TL;DR: MAYBE there was rigging, but if there was it was in no way enough to sway results or make Grimm's win illegitimate. It is strange that the hosts decided to go dead silent today, though.

>TL;DR: MAYBE there was rigging, but if there was it was in no way enough to sway results or make Grimm's win illegitimate. It is strange that the hosts decided to go dead silent today, though.
I think for many other characters this might have been much worse but Grimm has been such a constant presence specifically in ko/v/ (whether you've found him annoying or not) that it's hard to sell he ONLY won because of rigging. Also yes where the fuck are the hosts?

Don't worry about it, I'm just glad other campaigners came into the mix once I started it up again in the last two rounds. I was already having a lot of fun with it, and that made it even more fun. The guy who was responding to my posts as Lorde kept making me laugh, for example.

It should be common sense there's always rigging in these things. One can easily make alts or tell their friends to vote. The barrier of entry is low. All the rigging that ever came to light is like finding a roach in your home: there's hundreds you don't know about hidden inside your walls.

If it’s any consolation, they never directly linked any of the 2021 polls to the server - all the messages related to the 2021 tournament were made AFTER Batter had already won.
If there has to be another concern regarding this it’s the confirmation Garland's fanbase indeed organized and prepared their campaign behind the scenes, something a lot of people already suspected. It’s not rigging and I’m sure Jack would have won regardless, but it does fuck with perspective people will have of his campaign from now onwards. This would also explain why there was some insistence to claim Garland as another schizo alliance victory despite his OC not referencing it.
t. still has access to the server, for some reason

Part of the magic of the tournaments and campaigning for a character along with other fans is the spontaneity of it. It’s one thing the prepare some OC on your own in advance, but having all the major OC creators be in contact with each other off-board while the event is taking place is concerning, mostly because it represents a strategic advantage over everyone else.

They used to be good at keeping the nominations form up-to date and organized, but ever since they got the bot they've gotten lazy relying on it and the qualifiers poll had quite a few errors this year. I'll give Samaritanon a pass though since he was the one who revealed the Muffet/Ashley mix-up in Queen.

It's probably a good idea to separate from the schizo alliance in general for next year. If not for people crying foul against your pick because of the Black Souls discord, then for fatigue of people not wanting a 3rd (4th? I don't know if Garland counts) schizo victory so soon.

Hey, it's me.
You know when I said Dec 15th would be the date I start the colors tournament? Yeah, I got to change the date to next year, somewhere in January.
The reasoning is that Samaritanon suggested that I switch up the dates to that time. Yes, I've messaged him via email, and he seems likely he'll be helping me with hosting this thing.
This is very good for me since I know he has run various tournaments, so having a veteran with me will be very helpful in my learning experience with running tournaments.
When I said I didn't want to fuck things up, I meant it. Dill also seems likely on board to help me host this thing. So it'll be me, Dill Clinton, and Samaritanon as hosts.
I'm sorry I had to delay the date. I'll let you guys know when the new date is set.

There really wasn't anything connecting these two character like it would for example John Ward and Demi-fiend or Grimm and Demi-fiend. It would've been a contest of who simply creates more OC and campaign and at that point Eggman was way ahead of John Ward believe it or not.

Spinel is a heavy fucking case to compare to Grimm.
We know Spinel was rigged to hell and back because Ms. /co/ 2019 had the largest voter turn out of any tournament to have ever been hosted, at a whopping 1666 voter turn-out and the seed was literally twice the amount of the second seed placer.

Just as an example, Ms. /co/ 2020 had 802 vote turn out at the finals, literally half the amount of the previous year.
With Grimm we only have confirmation of rigging but not of what extent.

I find this especially upsetting since Grimm had quite literally the perfect campaign. A solo campaign full of OC, active from the get-go. Full of energy while staying fully in-character. The past alliance stuff only came back when it became relevant in a rematch against Eggman to launch the hype into overdrive mode. All ruined because of riggerniggers that might not even have affected the results.

There was actually a way proposed which even NSA was actually interested and that was a website made specifically for some type of one time 4chan poll.
The site tracked from which websites the the voting came from which basically means it automatically eliminates outsiders from entering.

Too often people buy a $400+ screen tablet, get intimidated by trying to make such an expensive item worth it, and end up dropping out.
Paper is not very space consumptive nor expensive. If you live in Burger land Hobby lobby has sales on good stuff constantly, you can pretty easily get a pack of pencils, a kneaded eraser, and eraser pen, and an 80 page sketchbook for $20.

I'll say it again: these tourneys are basically pro wrestling events. Of course they are not straight legit, they really couldn't be, but there's a suspension of disbelief that every result is real and that makes it a very entertaining ride of fake battles and fan influence. it mostly rest on there at least being a faith in hosts doing things right and not manipulating results unfairly themselves.
People need to decide how serious this should actually be taken. All the individual identification stuff and obsessive rulefagging in recent years is really taking it too far i think.

None of this applies if something more damning comes out, in which case I'll understand if Grimm gets the black sheep treatment. Faithbros and Eggmanbros have my condolences. Faithbros had their main used to campaign in Finals for someone they may have beaten and this was Eggbros year if not for the amazing set of coincidences that perhaps weren't as "coincidental" as they seemed.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. But the rigging thing really stinks and makes a mess of everyone’s effort involved.

But the more I think about it the more I feel that.. It doesn’t matter at all.

So what if Grimm was rigged? It wasn’t as if it was a fixed thing in time. People will obviously care about that but what about everyone involved who had a good time? Fuck that! I don’t want to accept everything being ruined just because of a downer faggot wanting to ruin it for everyone else. A lot of people saw what you guys made and drew, wrote and enjoyed every single second of it. It did not just suddenly became invalid because of some faggots deciding to shit things up. The OC that was made was enjoyed on its own, almost all of it was made when the winner's hadn't been decided, would losing then have negated anything? Look I know I'm not one to talk but even as a DBSfag I find these Yabba Dabba posts with Luigi pointless and pathetic. At least with Krillin when I used to do yabba posts of him and Omi they had context such as Roshi touching 18 or Omi getting cucked in the end of the series by Raimundo. But here? There's literally no punchline, no funny joke, nothing worth a (You), just some retard with some unhealthy hate and obsession over Luigi, AM and Recette for no apparent reason whatsoever.

As another one of the local DBSfags our funposting isn't comparable to the falseflagging people do in tournaments, not only is it all for shits and giggles since quite literally nothing we do will have an effect on our franchise or favorite characters, but it's also all done without any real hate involved, whereas most tourney falseflagging has at least some measure of spite involved since they're doing it because they hate a character or want to see them lose.

Alright, form is closed and results are now open to view.

Results Highlights:
>Grimm got 74.5% of the votes against Eggman. In hindsight, I should have included a question asking if this was what people voted in the finals. Ah well.
>Grimm also got 74.5% in the hypothetical Grimm vs. Battler match. Actually, the percentages were the same as the first match-up throughout MOST of the voting period, not just the end. Kind of funny.
>Most voters do NOT believe the Black Souls Discord caused Grimm to win.
>Most enjoyed the losers' bracket, and the amount of people who voted to keep it isn't far off from the results given by NSA.
>The hosts were not treated kindly here. 76.6% are not satisfied with the current hosts, although the majority of that number did say they're better than other options.
>Almost everyone either liked or loved the tournament, just like the official finals results. Not one voter seemed to hate it.
>Quite a few people mained the Elite Eight this time. Out of those not in it, almost everyone is ready to support their main next year as well. No one was entirely against it, with just a couple "not sure" votes.
>Only five voters here do not care about Queen of /v/.

>Jack Frost
Yeah, I think he's done. While the Jack-off itself has a mixed reception, Frost himself is just seen as a joke nowadays.

>Phoenix Wright
Going to be one of the top seeds, and good shot he returns again to the Elite Eight. Could even win since a lot of people are considering a legacy winner for King finally, and you don't get much more universally liked than Phoenix.

>Travis Touchdown
He'll be back and make at least Round 3 unless he gets a bombshell early match. The man has a lot of fans (including me) and proved to still have staying power in 2022, but whether he returns to Elite Eight or even wins is hard to say.

>JC Denton
His biggest caveat is being too quiet, but the character himself is beloved by a majority of /v/. He could be taken out by a strong enough powerhouse, but if he's not back in Elite Eight he'll at least be a filter.

>Luigi
This is a tricky one. He's pretty liked among the Mario cast, but I feel he may be seen as a fluke Elite Eight. I disagree with that one guy who spams him being a "terrible E8 member", yet I do feel he's a somewhat forgettable one outside killing Christopher Robin last year. There's also the matter of Mario AND Wario coming back next year. Wario is an obvious powerhouse, and Mario has shown to be stronger the past two years. (He made Top 16 in 2022, lost on a high power part of the bracket as seen by Jacket vs. Grimm a round later, and only got knocked out in LB by Isaac Clarke.)

>AM
This one is a coin toss. He will remain a tournament favorite, but he IS coming off two very high ranking campaigns in 2021 and 2022. The character also has weaknesses in critics towards his validity as a pick and some in the silent majority who just don't know him. Even if they aren't everybody, it can still swing key votes.

>Albert Wesker
He had a fun run last year, but even without some supporter stigma my gut tells me that he's just going to job earlier than expected.

In short: I think all three two time elites will once again do well, and at least two SHOULD get solid campaigns. The winner can be anyone as usual, but after such a meta-heavy pick like Grimm I do think any veteran elite could take the crown. As for the eligible newcomers, I'm not really seeing them doing that well aside from maybe AM.

Yup. People acted like he had a whole "collecting allies" arc when it was pretty much just Spamton for the reason you mentioned. If anything, it was EGGMAN doing something in that vein by robotizing certain opponents. That art with robot Kiryu in particular was a standout from the tournament. Jack Garland was absolutely the guy who made that way more of a focus in his campaign along with a couple smaller attempts like AM trapping his opponents. It could hurt any RPG character who actually had a focus on recruiting people, but to be frank I feel no one relevant is going to be around to employ that next year.

Yeah I hate that people keep forgetting no alliance or any shit existed at all in 2021 and it was novelty and new thing because it came up by accident. And even then it really didn't matter in the tournament when Batter killed his opponents anyway, he literally was forced to kill Isaac Clarke he didn't recruited him.
Also forgetting the tournament history that the team started out as a collection of RPG Maker characters.
One last thing, these people should have brought up Scout as examples and not /co/characters. That actually confuses me since that's his whole thing this year, he was just beating and bantering the shit out of his opponents.

I gotta say this year's King might have had the best ever batch of newcomers to the bracket. Really great campaigns and energy from the Johnny Cage, Peppino, Rayman, James, and Little Mac supporters. Even the funpost ones who went out early like Red Pikmin and Icon of Sin were a lot of fun. Only downside was Andrew Graves I think, and it's because his fans were pretty much non-existent save for one guy RPing with an Adachi posterwhich is still more campaigning than his sister got.

Icon and King Boo are a testament to if you spam a joke enough and keep it funny for enough people you can get your niche pick onto the bracket after a few years and a lucky break. Will seed high again, possibly even as the top seed. Him getting an elite position, let alone winning, is a different matter. Wright is one of those characters whose strength diminishes the further they get through the bracket, which tracks once you look at his previous loses (Morshu R4, Jack Frost QF after almost falling to Engineer Gaming spam). He is a solid pick, but it would require a considerable amount of effort and a lot of bracket luck to get a top 4 position. You know what? I'm going to pull out a leg and say he is going to lose to a campaign favorite in R4.
>Travis
Actually the safest bet to reach top 8 again out of the entire selection. From a niche yet beloved title, millenial-core, has a very likeable personality, maintains a strong supportbase, has connections to the TFR subgroup, very little criticisms againts him in general and has what a lot of anons would describe as tournament history, which is a strong suit to people looking for retiring tournament veterans. With all the said I can still see him losing earlier than expected.
>JC
People have described Denton as the "weaker Kiryu". Unlike Kiryu however, JC has a clear group of dedicated anons willing to campaign and make OC for him. The problem is that his campaign is BORING, but that can definitely change if people get around depiciting his character more accurately and giving him a fun narrative on top of it. I really don't want him to suffer the same fate that befell Kiryu this year, but who knows.
>Luigi
What the other anon said - Luigi felt like the least eventful elite last year and weren't it for the schizos orbiting around him he wouldn't be nearly as discussed. Ironically enough this point is what could give him the edge, especially if the group who backed Mario this year is willing to support him as well.
>AM
The most anticipated returning elite by far and I don't think it's even close. Opinions are polarizing with this one: people either say he is the next one to win the entire thing or could lose early, no in-between. What I'm most eager to know is how high he will seed compared to 2022, which I think will determine if he is going to remain an underdog or finally be established as another powerhouse. Although it's true he has critics, the fact all of them latch onto meta factors rather than his merit as a character makes them very easy to dismiss. One thing most people seem not to realize is that AM winning would actually break a lot of records for King of /v/. If his campaign picks up flow from early on I can absolutely see him dethroning The Batter in OC count.
>Wesker
It feels like the stigma that's been building up since last year is going to bite him in the ass, and unlike other characters people could have reasons to spitevote such as AM, Denton or Luigi, Wesker simply doesn't seem to have the backing or hype necessary to counterbalance it. There's also the fact a lot of people (me included) have expressed wanting to see Chris make top 8 over him and Leon as the main RE representative.

Now that that's done I want to see what people's opinions of the other previous elite who failed to make top 8 this year are.

The main reason I left off Edgeworth is that Phoenix Wright exists. I could see a case where it went to Edgeworth, but I just feel Phoenix Wright is the easier of the two to push. Still, both are undeniably powerhouses and an Ace Attorney winner would just feel natural at this point.

I think Vergil goes a little deeper than series overlap. Armstrong is something special, so I don't think he entirely eats into the series' odds. It's probably part of the reason we saw Raiden still make finals the second year. With Vergil, he'd need to find his niche with Dante more than established in the Elite Eight. A lot of people love their rivalry, and for good reason. I think he could do it and he's certainly on the table to be the first same series winner, but without a real shift he might just remain a bracket filter.

I think most of them have a decent shot at getting to the E8 again, specially Raiden. HIs writefag was fun, and he lost because he went against the main character of his series.
>Morshu
I don't believe he'll ever make it that far again. What made him popular again was that at the time Morshu RTX On videos had come out, making newfagzoomzooms know he existed, and oldfags get nostalgic (maybe probably perhaps). Also, he was being backed by the now defunct merchant team.
>Nyarly
Never again due to Host fuckery
>Heavy
Some people in the threads seemed to be upset at him being a silent pick, so I think that while he'd always make it to R2, he wouldn't make it to the E8.

>Doomguy
Kind of seen as a jobber these days and doubtless he doesn't have as much popularity as in 2019, but he has his supporters so you never know
>Raiden
Still surprised he lost to Snake, but I think he's an easy pick for E8 returners especially if he gets drawfag support
>Vergil
Hit his peak in 2020, will probably continue to destroy midcarders though
>Morshu
Also hit his peak, a lot of the popularity of his YTPs has faded since 2021. But then it is kind of hard to gauge how well he might do in an average bracket given he immediately got matched against Eggman
>Wario
Of this list, probably the most likely to return to E8. Already beloved character and has huge support, IMO most likely returner winner.
>Jetstream Sam
Well, if nothing else he'll actually get nominated this time. Memes from this year will either make or break him
>Edgeworth
Strong but needs more of a campaign outside of "le furfag"
>Leon
Is going to get to round 4 and then job
>Nyarly
He'll probably get sympathy for getting cucked from the qualifiers error but outside of that I honestly have no idea, huge wildcard as far as I'm concerned
>Heavy
People have been clamouring for a different TF2 rep so he might actually get series limit'd, otherwise probably another round 4 jobber
>Duke Nukem
Kind of a midcard these days desu

He will have some OC, a lot of it in the inquisition style together with John and Garcia.
>Raiden
Investigation was fun, looking forward to more of that type of stuff
>Morshu
All he seemed to have going for him was the merchant alliance and YTPs. He fell off hard since then with little to no oc
>Wario
Has a good drawfag behind him plus possibly hexanon. He will make it into the E8 unless he gets a really strong opponent in round 1
>Nyarly
I feel a lot of his votes came from Fuhrer meme factor but could be a strong contender and villain of the tournament
>Heavy
To me a very boring pick. Unless he gets a character arc like Scout did he won't make it into E8. This year I expected scout to be what spy turned out to be, a speedbumb for a possible winner and I expect him to be another spy
No strong opinions on the rest

I think that to be a winner a pick needs some difficult matches in the vain that Grimm got. Jacket, Scout and John were great matches that made him pick up steam and gave him a few campaigners from his opponents.

I'm going to speed it up a bit by saying that I feel Morshu, Nyarly, and even Jetstream Sam may be never evers to win. I think Nyarlathotep is obvious, and even if he went by just Fuhrer again (I'd say no to that myself) he still has a high chance of being filtered by the end. Jetstream Sam over other Metal Gear options seems farfetched to me unless he had the stars align. Morshu has some staying power seeing his qualification and losers' bracket run this year, but still feel he's never getting it if he couldn't in the peak year of his memes.

>Doomguy
I forgot to mention him in my post about the most likely former elites to win, but at the same time he might have more to prove than those five at this rate. He's been known as a strong filter for winners or runner-ups, but even if he's decently popular the Agent 47 loss this year stung. I'm not counting Doomguy out yet, but my gut tells me he would whiff to somebody either in QF or SF if he ever returns to Elite Eight. Maybe I'm wrong since /v/ adores at minimum old Doom.
>Raiden
He narrowly lost to Snake this time, and I feel five years is enough time to give him space from Armstrong. His biggest challenge is that he isn't too much of an OC powerhouse outside that one anon's great writing schtick this year, though it's also hard to truly say that when he's only been in two tournaments somehow. He's not my top former Elite Eight to take the crown, but he's absolutely on the table at least. I do think he has a strong shot at another elite run next year.

>Vergil
>Edgeworth
Already covered these two at >>75495.

>Wario
He's definitely one of the best bets at actually winning. Not sure he beats out the three returnees coming back next year, but he's hardly far off. While Eggman is similar to the other famous fat man in these tournaments, I feel Wario has some key advantages. He has less stigma or old rivalries to use against him, and I'd also say he already shows more potential diversity in campaigning other than just Warioanon (if he comes back next time). His main caveats are powerhouse targeting and platform mascot fatigue, but they're hardly death sentences.

>Leon
His biggest problem is silence. I feel Leon could have absolutely taken down even a powerhouse like Scout coming off his remake and the Chris victory, yet he was possibly the most silent pick left by Round 4 this year. Even a campaign might fall by semi-finals, but as-is Leon needs at least a little push to get another elite run.

>Heavy
I'm just going to say that TF2 might be pushed a little hard as a powerhouse in King. Now don't get me wrong here: it's absolutely potent and definitely a serious filter for candidates. I just think it's worth evaluating that while some mercs have gotten close (see Engy last year and Spy this year), only two have actually hit Elite Eight. Scout has the charisma and campaigns to make it happen, so where does that leave Heavy? He was an obvious fit for the first Elite Eight, but even by 2021 people were starting to see him as silent weight. Little shot he does as bad as this year, but I feel he's going to have a hard time making E8 again unless he pulls out a stellar campaign. Even then, I'd pin Scout higher to actually get the crown, since Heavy is an easy target to pick out in QF and SF.

>Duke Nukem
Much as I still love the Duke, I think he's done. Maybe he can make Elite Eight if people gave him an actual campaign, but as-is he feels like a relic both in general and in these tournaments. It's a shame, but that's how it goes.

Responding to this as well. I think this is a great point to pick out, especially with King. It's two-fold: not only did Grimm take out powerhouses to get to finals, but their active campaigns bounced off each other to build momentum. I personally had some huge favorites on the top half of the bracket this year, but by the end it was clear it was the one with less hype around it. There's several reasons Eggman lost, but I'd absolutely say that's one of them.

Yeah, save for Wario, Eggman felt like roflstomps through and through. Had he had one or two more difficult round or had someone to join his campaigning like Dr T, Cortex ot Klainer he would have had much better chances

Demi-fiend was at least a fight, and definitely a great OC producer for both sides. I think Eggman was too silent prior to finals outside R4 and SF (minus Hexanon), but that does also go back to the whole "building momentum" point. I do think Isaac instead of Kiryu would have helped give some consistency at least combined with Geralt, but even then Grimm did have the perfect storm.

As a grimmfag I was saying this during the tournament. You can have a strong pick but if they're casually walking to finals that can hurt them. There is NO WAY Grimm makes King if let's say it was Mario, Leon, and Solid Snake for example. Another reason I don't mind the team up OC because it's true, Grimm jobs by himself in an alternate matchup or if John/Jacket/Scout didn't do anything.

Mario would have given content at least with his actual campaign this year, but it wouldn't have the same natural synergy as Jacket minus the obvious contrast. The two really were a match made in heaven. Spy, Leon, and Snake in that order on the other hand would have absolutely been a death sentence. Again, Grimm running into Scout AND John right before Eggman was excellent happenstance.

Hell, to add to this I don't even remember that much about the Sephiroth or Cortex matches. Maybe my focus was shifted, but I mostly just recall that one hilarious art of Grimm confronting Cortex. I think Grimm did need at least one big match prior to Elite Eight, and Jacket gave him just that.

Kefka feels like the only other FF pick that can go far. He's got popularity and has potential for a strong campaign as shown by this year and /v/illains. He could work as a good heel/villain like Scout was this year if played up enough.

I don't think Kefka will ever win unless these tournaments started getting into the double digits, but Elite Eight is certainly believable if he had the right storm. I feel FFVII has too much of a normie stigma to make it outside maybe a lucky Tifa rerun, yet it's also harder to hit a sweetspot outside of them. I feel Kefka has the perfect storm behind him.

I said this in the stealth thread but I think losing to Kiryu is the best thing that could’ve happened to Isaac
>If he won, he’d go on to get demolished by Eggman and sit out for a year
>By losing to Kiryu (and by such a short margin) it was not only fitting for Isaac as a character and a funny end to his tournament run, but it got people sympathetic and wanting him to do better next time
Kiryu was a hero who sacrificed himself for us. Let’s just hope his early bracket next year isn’t completely unfortunate.
