you know what's a bigger curse?
In /co/ and /v/ all winners are either tournament newcomers, or veterans who won it all once they got into quarterfinals for the first time.
In other words, no former Elite 8 has gone on to win the tournament in subsequent appearances (yet).

/co/
>2019: Spinel and Kronk were both newcomers
>2020: Mrs Monarch and Tom Cat's 1st elite 8
>2021: Ditto for Betty and Grievous

/v/
>2020: Reimu was a newcomer; Dante won in his 1st elite 8
>2021: Both Recette and Batter were also newcomers, the latter having done so after failing to qualify in 2020.

To date, the closest a former elite 8 has come to winning it all in /co/ was Hank Hill (4th in 2019, 2nd in 2021). In /v/ it's Kazuma Kiryu (3rd in 2019 and 2021).

There's a sentiment you'll sometimes hear people express, where they'll vote the newcomer over the well-performing veteran because "they may never get this far again". I'm not sure how common this reasoning is, but I definitely saw it brought up for Jack vs. Grievous. It also happened to FARTS. Being too consistent a competitor is actually a weakness, because voters either get tired of seeing you or take for granted that you'll always be there and always have a strong shot.

The competitors most likely to actually win are the plucky up-and-comers who can get a narrative of "taking on the heavy-hitters" built up around them. Does this necessarily make sense for a popularity contest? I think it stopped being purely a popularity contest a while ago. It's just a game now.
No.2680
Anonymous
>>2618
It was never a popularity contest, it's a tournament. If only popularity mattered we could be done with it in just 3 days and 2 polls. One day for nominations, one for qualifiers vote and the final vote on day 3. Or we wouldn't even bother with the qualifiers and just counted everyone who passed nominations. No, this is a competition and there are many factors that can sway people's opinions one way or another. This is what makes things exciting.

Also, nuance. Dominos had already started RPing before he became host, and Temp only RPed for the character he infamously cocked up last year and felt bad about (Intentionally avoiding RPing as Dan)

"I HATE ROLEPLAYERS" he thought. You've Got a Friend in Me reverberated his entire car, making it pulsate even as the $9 Monster circulated through his powerful thick veins and washed away his (merited) fear of roleplayers hosting tournaments. If I recall correctly, jannies took a particular offence at the RP and had started deleting posts ever since 2020, with mods occasionally handing out bans. Sure, if we were to narrow it down to it, Señor Fusefag would take most of the blame for killing the tournaments, but the RP itself played its part.
Not that there's anything wrong with roleplaying, it's just very effective at pissing off the moderation.

The Fatposting itself should be near the top (it was pretty hard to miss during Ms. /co/, taking over threads multiple times), but near the bottom of the chart should be the fact that on both occasions Anne Boonchuy was the original initiator of it. (In Ms. /co/, an anon asked if any of the nominees were willing to appeal to fatfags for votes. The Amphibia posters moved first and sparked the whole thing. Then in Tag Team a guy said he was glad the fatfags didn't come back.....then someone posted Fat Anne and it all started up again)

>Black Souls seether
Basically there was this one guy who was really mad that Alice made it far and started to spam Black Souls spoiler he got from the archive and when that didn't worked he said he was going to rig so Alice will lose, and she actually did a round after. With the vote count going to 1,400 instead of average 1,200.
>Schizo anime videos
The anime openings and endings OCs.
>Boundary of Death
Project Moon related, people post related stuff to get 4 and to bump the thread, there was also one really annoying guy who kept spamming it.
>Argalia 3 votes
Despite being the organizer of the schizo team, Argalia somehow didn't made it in with 3 votes left to do so.
>Cumposting
After the sacred ointment incident there were numerous Vocaroo using ai TTS character voices to talk about using cum to win the tournament.
>Ko/v/ 2021 fangame
Apparently someone is making ko/v/ 2021 fangame using RPG Maker, no idea if it will ever comes out.
>Battler vs his grandpa
in 2020, by some miracle. Battler gets matched up against his grandpa in the first round.
>Fang/Midna jobbing
Their fans were being arrogant for the most part and their defeat caused one of the biggest upset in the tournament, Fangfags in particular was underestimating Illya (despite the fact she literally has her own spin-off and is one of the most popular VN character)
Take this as an cautionary tale.
>Marisa's Nasuverse gauntlet run
Marisa matched up against Saber and Necro-arc in a row.
>BAN TOUHOU
People were mad that Touhou had a chance to win again during the tournament, this caused Marisa's downfall.
>Heavy did nothing
Self-explanatory, Heavy somehow got that far with no posters.
>Kiryu vs Batter timeline
There were numerous conceptions and writefaggings during before the finale, one of which was Battler vs Kiryu stuff. Instead of Battler, Kiryu is the protagonist in said timeline.
>Team Schizo started out as RPG Maker team
Team Schizo wasn't thrown in randomly, it started out by someone posting Batter and said "schizo assembly" which then caused someone to draw the first team image. Despite the fact that it was for just RPG Maker characters, someone threw in AM and because he was the only non-RPG Maker character the drawfag made exception to the rule and added him in, which then further down the line the team slowly expanded into what it was in the tournament. Team Schizo actually had an organic growth, what a surprise.
>Kotposting
Semi-related to Kageaki, basically useless/useful fucking niggerposting with Cheshire and Pablo being grouped together as well
>Gurren Lagann parallels in ko/v/ 2021
Basically how the tournament went was very similar to the story of Gurren Lagann. Batter is Simon, Grimm is Kamina, Spamton is Lordgenome, etc. Basically the entire Gurrenposting in the tourney.

Do people still believe Reimu was rigged? Reminder Tifa's vote count in the final round was her second lowest total from the year, and no amount of blaming /jp/ can explain. If you were to take the difference between the total votes of the final round and semi-final round, and then subtract that difference exclusively from Reimu's votes, and Tifa's results still wouldn't keep up.

There were novelizations of the Sonic movies, so that's how he could enter /lit/. As for /his/, he'd find a way somehow to get in seeing as he was able to make it into the horse tournament. You might need to allow writers mostly due to literature discussion not focusing on characters a whole lot outside of stuff like Fight Club or American Psycho, either that or not put a book/series limit on who'd get in the main bracket.

Remember Doganon? The guy who popped up in the middle of the Ms. /co/ Round 3 rigging freakshow to advise againts riggers and claimed to be experienced in hosting online competitions? The dude who was very insistent on rigged votes always being easy to detect? I think he is the anti-Zorak poster.
Now, because I’m coming off as a tin-foil hat wearing conspiranoid schizo, I have to say I have got my set of reasons to at least welcome the possibility that they are the same individual, those being:

>Doganon was present during this Mr. /co/lympus
https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/133473810/#133474847
https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/133473810/#133474904
>their writing styles are very similar
Beyond the accusatory, passive-agressive and slandering tone most of their posts share (either when confronting NSA, random anons or Zorak supporters), the lack of use of paragraphs in what are some pretty long-winded messages, as well as the subject matter at hand always being related to rigging, tells me we could be talking about the same person.
>this https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/133451835/#q133452200 reply to one of the C2C spammer threads
Notice not just the dog reaction pic, but also the descriptive and simple filename. All of Doganon's posts which had an image attached were like this, hence why anons dubbed him as 'Doganon' in the first place.
https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/132841931/#q132842147
https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/132841931/#q132842147
https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/132935972/#q132937755
>Doganon is a confirmed zoomie attending college
Precisely the kind of person who would have no idea what Space Ghost is, as indicated by these posts from the anti-Zorakposter https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/133521334/#q133522314 https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/133521334/#133524444

Now, I have got nothing against this person to be making this connection. Chances are Doganon probably lurks this place, in which case he is completely welcome to tell me I’m wrong. I’m only pointing out the patterns here because the idea of someone a lot of anons wanted as a replacement for NSA actually having his own conspiracy about the latest champion being a rigged win is absolutely hilarious to me.

What I can tell you with total certainty is that anti-Zorak IS NOT Tourney/Numnuts. He simply isn’t that articulate.

No counter-argument. Guy is a lot more transparent than industry and numnuts who at least tried to hide, this one doesn't even try.

Other than that I also find his behavior quite transparent, he is very definitely a lot younger than he seems like, especially in the "Better Tournament" bullshit he tends to sprout. For what’s worth, I think the guy had a legit point when calling out the spamming at first. I admit I would be suspicious too if I were in his shoes, but it eventually degraded into irrational seething and right now it only seems like a flimsy excuse to shit on NightShift. Hell apparently there’s yet another conspiracy about how NSA might be the Zorak RPer (lmao).
Oh, another thing also worth calling attention to: the anon who has been spamming C2C and other Space Ghost related threads since at least September? It’s a /r9k/ poster obsessed with Brak, unaware of the tournaments by the sound of it.

add one for a 2nd place curse. its been proven that if your pick makes elite 8 it doesn't mean they'll never win after their year break (Fang) or in a future year (midna), however getting 2nd place is practically a death sentence. so far the majority of runner ups have done considerably worse after their temporary leave, a recent example is raiden who went from 2nd place in 2020 to not even qualifying this year due to series limit. some contenders have been able to keep their energy to make it back to elite 8 but as of now theres been no runner up who's made it back to win AND theres never been a two time runner up.
wishful thinking but hopefully madotsuki breaks the curse next year, and carl and hornet aren't effected by this when they're eligible again in 2024.
Maybe just aim for third place because that's also what fang and midna got in elite 8 prior to their wins lol

Since we are in the matters of lamenting those who lost or didn't qualify, I've been feeling satisfied with Mario and Luigi's progress this year. I never thought the Should Have Been Me campaign would actually get Mario this far and I'm thankful to everyone for making Luigi reach the elite. However, even with all the good things I'm mentioning doesn't remove the disappointment and sadness I have for some who didn't make it in with great OC potential. When it comes to that, Revolver Ocelot is the one I'm referring to. He's easily destined to be overshadowed by Revengeance characters and the limit rule makes it impossible for him or Sundowner to step in and show what they got. It's a true shame because like I said, Ocelot has a lot of potential, the great proof was that vocaroo he replied me with back then, I still have it saved:
https://vocaroo.com/1fMf2scxKQlA
I know it's impossible but if there was a request I'd like to make to those who supported my Should Have Been Me campaign this year is to give Ocelot a chance too so we can have more kino stuff like this, regardless if he wins or not.

>Besides AM has no character aside from Hate
We went over this already during the tourney. AM is no less of a character than any of the other elite contenders just because he has an iconic memey monologue on top of everything. Indeed, the overarching theme of his character is HATE and the ultimate importance of overcoming it, but that itself is a result of the existential dread he faces as a creation of man unable to move on from its original purpose. He has got plenty of reason and depth to his character, and a very humorous side to it while at that.
When people say "he has no character aside from hate" it’s like they only see him as a stand-in for an ideology/plot device and not a character proper, or in other words they haven't actually played his game

Also anyone who tries to argue againts Geralt being allowed doesn’t even browse /v/.

Your campaign was the main reason I voted for Mario because it led to a lot of fun banter. Glad you liked the vocaroo. I would've done more but I was busy campaigning for Battler and Wesker. I did do this one in round 1 or 2 when Libbyfag was being gay:

I would love Ocelot to make it in again since I love doing these dumb vocaroos (I did the Wesker ones too when Chris was in), although I feel with the new franchise limit he's fucked, but hopefully he can come back next year.

I'm not saying characters like Jetstream or Snake are bad, but the fact they always get to be the same first Metal Gear characters to get in is starting to get old. If I had to share an opinion regarding the characters who make it far but will never probably win because of a previous winner beforehand, is that they should be removed permanently once they reach the elite. I know it sounds extreme and taking things too far, but I can't think in other ways we can prevent silent majority from picking always the same characters for qualifiers. Even if they do make it past, silent majority managed to vote out characters who just started making actual good OC like they did with Administrator and Roxanne, that was just criminal.
>>16041
Hello there! It's great you are also here. I appreciate the support you also campaigned great and knowing you were still around makes me feel happy. AM always seems to take brutal losses despite being able to beat other tournament powerhouses handily, he lost to Kiryu last year with a similar percentage. Then again it happened in the same round the complainfags arrived so my suspicion is that it had less to do with the fact it was Garland and more that some people got really butthurt he was doing so well. Still weird to think about but the only alternative would be to scream RIGGING and there's no evidence to back such claim.

Yes, but this is something you can say about most if not all heavy hitters. Midna has some notable board presence BUT she didn't have the FoTM hype and more favorable tournament history that actually pushed Fang to win last year.
I'm not tearing down her campaign, only making a point that with enough effort returning elite members can win.

Let's be honest here for a moment, do you believe there's any hope for Ms. /co/ to fully recover? The last time the tournament was legitimately decent from beginning to end was 2020 and it still had its own pitfalls (take how many people critize Mrs. Monarch's victory as an example).
There was some discussion around getting rid of the Elite Eight clause in order to mitigate the metagaming around the tourney, but I don't know if that would cause even more problems in the long run.

Hornet and Carl hurt but I'm optimistic. With Carl I can at least still push Shake, and Hornet was this strong without Silksong being out, so I could see her taking it in 2024.

Can't believe how many niggers there have been about their mains getting far. Some fag last king /v/ even had the gall to complain about the whole E8 being his mains and having to choose between them. My mains don't stand a fucking chance. I just campaign and hope they break 128, but they probably won't.

This year taught me that the randomization round really made more underdogs shine like livsley who could’ve gone out in round 1 under normal circumstances but made a name of himself as not just a meme character like Omniman was. I feel we’ll be seeing more examples in the future but I do know kermit is gonna become an elite eight member eventually seeing the momentum he’s gotten to the point of beating shaggy, the only non elite eight member to do so.

Same as you here except I voted for Zorak instead of Carl in the finale, but I was rooting for both through the entire tournament. I was mostly prepared to see Brisby and Hornet fall but losing AM hurt a lot, I hope he can recover from getting destroyed in the semis because I'm sure there are some anons who have it againts him now.

It’s a double edged sword. On one hand I don’t have to worry about my main choking at the finals or something, but on the other hand that’s part of what made the tournaments so entertaining to me. Without the investment I don’t really care at all about the tournament, it loses that spark ya know?

From what I recall from the 4 tournaments, I think so. Every attempt at a false flag was shut down or ignored and the characters that were getting smeared still ended up advancing into the next round, maybe getting Xavier in 8th place was the only successful one but even then that was after he lost in the quarter-finals.

Honestly, I think even Queen /v/ 2022 is better than King. I think the Elite 8 had a much better selection of characters. It's just as diverse as /co/'s Elite 8s, which is super impressive. Yeah the ranking is wack but you could say the same for all the Elite 8s last year. Also I realized that while King of /v/ 2022 just gets worse and worse as the rounds go on, Queen is practically the opposite. Especially during the top 4, Queen was very intense with vocal supporters and campaigns on almost all sides, while King... Let's just say that nobody cares anymore since everyone and their mother already knows who's gonna win. Overall, I very much prefer the tournament progression of Queen than King.

2022: Mr. /co/ > Queen of /v/ > King of /v/ >>> Ms. /co/

Queen started off pretty bad but got better towards the end. King had a strong start but you have the Round 3 massacre taking place and the way Phoenix and Travis lost during quarterfinals, which contributed to what made the final outcome so predictable.
