Weird Phenomena in Tournaments: The Thread
save file
image:166396473888.jpg(33kB , 363x426 , maske.jpg)
This isn't a thread about curses but rather weird and unexplained phenomena that tend to happen in rare occasions in these tournaments with a few exceptions. Curses are something else as in they're always bound to happen in one tourney or another and are more focused on one character but these phenomenon are exceptions as in they're something that rarely happen and can include many characters in said term.

Two phenomena where I'll give the names now are the Omniman Syndrome and Black Canary phenomenon.

>Omniman Syndrome: When a character has had huge hype around it but absolutely fails to deliver.
There obviously have been quite a few characters with this Syndrome, most infamous of course, being Omniman himself who lost in round 1 in Mr. /co/ and Tagteam which is baffling considering /co/ was going crazy over invincible over several months prior.

>Black Canary Phenomenon: Character that only ever appears in one tournament and somehow makes it to the elite eight and fucks off to never be seen ever again.
This case was literally always one reported case, until recently when Shirley made an appearance this year nearly being crowned the fucking Ms. /co/.

What are your phenomenon that you've noticed in these tourneys?

Here's a couple that I've noticed:
>Heavy Phenomenon: Beloved character gets no vocal support or OC and makes it to Elite Eight somehow
Most notably happened in King of /v/ 2021 with Kiryu and Heavy
>Kronk Phenomenon: Character appears for the first time in the tournament and manages to win the whole thing
Biggest examples of this happening are Kronk in Mr. /co/ 2019, Spinel in Ms. /co/ 2019, and Recette in Queen of /v/ 2021

There's also the Dementia Syndrome where you lose to the same character two years in a row. From what I know, this is the only case I think.

What about Eggman?
He's always finding a way to get into every tournament.
He even found a way to get into mother fucking mr /mlp/ somehow.
The only tournament he hasn't entered is the Miss /mlp/ tournament.
Any name for that phenomenon?

Well, he doesn’t really have any weird phenomena around him. It’s just that he’s THE indie game that paved the way for every other indie game, and he had a very active and vocal cult following that grew more in the tourney. It does seem unexplained but rather natural, unlike everything else in this thread which is borderline paranormal.

I’ll happily call that:
>Omnipresent Egg Paradox: A character that is eligible to join in every tournament and despite that, said character breaks no rules in doing so.

Named after eggman of course, but it also fits as a egg if it were a character would technically be able to fit in every tournament due it being widespread in media and being unambiguous in gender.

>Heavy Phenomenom
That's not really a strange phenomenom, it's just how things went at first for a popularity contest, because obviously the most popular characters don't really need campaigning to reach the top. Right now OC has a much bigger role but at the end of the day you are still voting for the characters.

I have concluded he has actually had a phenomena behind him which is one of the main leading reasons why he won, and that's called:
>OC Snowballing

Basically, It's a rare event where a character doesn't start really strong. Actually almost not at all, usually being unqualified or a round 1 elimination in the previous years. But to the year where he is lucky he might have a few dedicated anons towards RPing and making a campaign for him which leads to the said character to have a consistently stronger and stronger presence in the tournament, eventually even winning the tournament itself.

Tho, I'd split this phenomena into two pieces because they always end in one way or another.
>Shattered Snowball
A character had hype and a big campaign for him but it was stopped when a powerhouse met it in early-mid tournament. Two examples I would bring would be Charles and recently John Silver. Charles unironically had it's own fucking arc in the tournaments, and had it not been for Heavy to step in he would've entered Elite eight easy, John Silver had a lot of RP and campaigning for him he sadly was up against a /co/ classic. I think had it not been for Squidward eliminating him early round, Silver would've seen a snowball effect.
>The Avalanche
Basically the snowball becomes so big it manages to go to go to elite eight or even win the game. Two most obvious examples are Batter and Recette, but one example where people don't bring is usually Dr. Eggman. Guy is also a fucking Avalanche in every meaning of the word, the motherfucker was against powerhouse after powerhouse and he beat them thus creating a Avalanche which was only beaten by the one created by Batter,

I feel after last year, Eggman is one of the strongest contenders in the tournament seeing as he managed to take down Big Boss, Doomguy, Wario, and Kiryu, while Batter had relatively easy matchups in comparison, although I don't think Eggman will break the Elite Eight curse in Ko/v/. I think the most likely characters to break it are either Kiryu or Wario. Maybe also Heavy.

I don't know is this would be a curse or a phenomena, but it's something I noticed and would like to mention:
>In King of /v/ 2019, Doomguy beat Kazuma Kiryu in the semi-finals before losing to Senator Armstrong in the finals
>In King of /v/ 2021, Dr. Eggman beat Kiryu in the semi-finals before losing to The Batter in the finals
Beating Kiryu just guarantees you'll lose the next round

Not really a phenomena but rather an interesting observation on how alliance’s were being made during 2021 tournaments.

It first started with the FARTS who were basically the prototype alongside the /co/nqurers and then smaller and stronger Plunderers. These were mostly nonsensical but made sense because they had at least one theme in common (Heavy Hitters, Evil Overlords, just frens.).

This then lead to the influence of the alliances that were present in King /v/ 2021 where it was one of main highlights of the tournament with the major ones being the Schizos, Merchants, Evil Scientists, the Gray Daddies, the Femboys, etc.

I just noticed something funny.
Remember all the H.R. Giger posting at the beginning of Ms. /co/ trying to predict an alien champion?
It actually happened, just not in the female tournament.
