Fang seems to have the most defensive fans.
If you call most Ms. winners shit, most will agree and move on.
If you call Jenny or Frankie shit, there will be some minor pushback.
If you call Fang shit, the next hundred posts will be arguing about it.

Is anyone here still left from the early tourney days?

I just had an existential crisis realizing I have been tuning to this shit show for 7 years straight. It really now just seems like a blur, with all the controversies and kino moments that have come and gone, I used to remember 2018 in vivid detail but now I can barely recall 2021 despite probably being the year I participated the most.
Why am I so obsessed with this shit? This event always stresses me out and sometimes makes my blood boil but at the same time, it feels like fucking euphoria and no drug or event has quite managed recapture such magic.
I still wanna tune more to it for fuck sake.

Fellow inaugural year voter here. I sympathize with the sentiment. These are unique events really not reflected in the same way anywhere, and one of the few fun times still to be had on 4chan. But yes they’re incredibly autistic and it’s hard to say if it were better I got dragged in or not. I can still remember the early years pretty clearly though. Ms. 2019 is probably something that’s always gonna stick in my mind at least.

I was kinda around in the early days. I witnessed the Cap drama firsthand, was Martianposting in 2019, and have been really locked in since 2020. I don't think I regret any tournament event I've participated in, outside of generally regretting still posting on 4chan. I enjoy these things, even when they're shitty. They're events I actually want to take part in, rather than shit I'm doing to kill time, like posting on 4chan.

Honestly I find more enjoyment from the tag-team tourneys because of the team interactions but I get your point. I wasn't there for the first two tag-teams and I really can't judge them, 2021 was horrendous and 2022 was bad, but Giant Localizers and Mystery Inc. brought back that spark Tag-team needed back a long time ago.

>Johnny
Alright winner, better choices from that era but this isn't the worst that could have been picked.
>Kronk
Side character from a lesser known movie and seemingly only voted for having the same body type as Johnny. Understandably a literal who.
>Tom
Golden Age animation character, a refreshing change of pace. Could have picked a better representative but good to see the greatest generation honored this way.
>Grievous
Star Wars isn't /co/, only here because of grandfather rule.
>Zorak
A campaigner favorite whose supporters probably haven't seen either version of Space Ghost. Just plain baffling and something I can't understand to this day.
>Skeletor
A glorified toy commercial from one of the worst eras of animation. An 80s cartoon is already embarrassing enough but like Skeletor he probably shouldn't even be here.
>Spider-Man
A Marvel Comics character and one who hasn't even had a good run or adaptation in ages. I have no idea what would possess /co/ to vote for someone like Spider-Man over so many other picks given that they know his recent history.

So that's about two good picks out of seven so far. Not the all-star line up people here keep raving about.

If you think it's a good idea, sure. As for ms. /co/'s winner line up:
>Jenny
Good a choice as any for the inaugural winner, MLAATR is one of the beloved waifu shows on /co/ so it's easy to see Jenny's trajectory.
>Spinel
Peruvian brigading aside, she was just the hot new thing in a very controversial show. Predictably aged the worst out of all the winners.
>Monarch
Much grief as been given over her pity votes but if we're looking strictly at her as a character, she's an iconic part of Venture Bros and the best female pick you can get from that show.
>Betty
One of the original waifus of animation and another golden age pick. Always good to honor the classics this way.
>Fang
It's a dinosaur and not even a stylized anthropomorphic kind of dinosaur. I get that /co/ likes Primal but this was just a weird as fuck pick that throws everything off.
>Wuya
I know the circumstances of her winning were not the best but focusing strictly on her as a character, she's a solid villain pick from the 2000s. Sure there were better picks from that era but Wuya isn't bad herself.

Does it matter? I was referring that the IC imitator is the issue. And yes he's still here. Don't pretend like ban evasion doesn't extend to plus4chan even if that wasn't the case here. He's a grown ass already, being a self-admitted joke that women won't even touch him in real life so he resorts to an imaginery harem of sorts. Black Hand won't do anything because this is just regular funposting even though it still falls under spam just like Perifag was. Yeah of course he won't do that here, he knows he can be reported and that scares him. This is why you only see him milf/cuck/harem/posting in the other boards and also being responsible of stirring up fights between campaigners. Once again, I don't expect this to blow up anyways, but the administration here also deserves its criticism. See ya.

I've theorized for a long time that the "Ms /co/ roster is boring" meme was a result of /tnt/ gay furries not caring for straight coom and blindly dismissing popular hot /co/ girls as boring. But them apparently needing to have unique fighting taunts to be memorable characters is something new.

I'm confused about what you mean. There are characters, male and female, who would not insult their competition at all. "Quirk" sounds like "gimmick", and even characters with gimmicks don't necessarily have gimmicks that are directly applicable to a competition like this. Characterization is more important than gimmicks, and if you're speaking entirely in the context of campaigning, the character's personality will determine how they interact with any other character, and showcasing that personality is part of showing why they're the better choice. It's much more open-ended than back-and-forth RP.

Is it fair to say Mr /co/ has the bigger backlog now?
Most the Ms heavy hitters are retired now. Only a few stragglers like Toph, Tyr’ahne, Starfire Chel that can be taken out quickly
Mr only got Bravo and Skeletor. Still waiting on Hank, Courage, Jack, Daffy, Aku, Bugs, Batman and many others
No.207974

>>207969
Both Toph and Tyr'ahne are very likely to win in the following years, Starfire has zero chance thanks to Raven, and Chel is on her way to become the Battler of /co/.
Both Hank and Jack are in the same position as Toph and Tyr'ahne (though it may depend on the reboot in Hank's part).
Courage, Daffy, and Aku are basically Azula, Frankie, and Shego of CHADS; they will only get far as long as they have strong campaign but they usually lose near the finals.
I don't know about Bugs, but I do know that Batman is in the same position as Starfire.

People already said this in the threads, but now that we're past 8 years, we might get a repeated franchise winner in the foreseeable future (like the next 3-5 years), and Starfire is the number one candidate for that.

A lot of characters get compared to Battler, but those comparisons don't really work for anyone who makes the E8, especially if it's consistent. Battler doesn't just lose, he's a loser's loser that gets overhyped. Chel has some actual weight to throw around. The only character mentioned that even comes close to comparable to Battler is Azula, who has, until recently, been mentioned in the same breath as consistent powerhouses, but whose one E8 appearance is looking more and more like a fluke. As for Chel, I would say she's on roughly equal footing with Tyr'ahnee. They kind of go back and forth as far as who wins their matchups, whenever they happen.

I think it's safe to say that they'll move on. The whole Ruby thing was kind of a perfect storm of coincidences and serendipity:
>RWBY's place in Death Battle's history is infamous
>RWBY itself has a sizable hatedom
>in spite of that, Ruby has genuine supporters in Ms. /co/
>Ruby's episode was going to come out the same day as the end of the tournament
Even though the next episode is also going to be /co/-related, I can't see /dbg/ having any noticeable presence in the upcoming Mr. /co/. They'll definitely try to make it a thing, but given that Blade has never qualified before, they're attempts will surely be negligible.
Not /co/, but Queen should be safe too, unless the show suddenly decides to give a previous winner or a heavy-hitter an episode. King is definitely gonna be infested with KINGtos posting, but King and /dbg/ are on similar wavelengths of retardation, so it won't be out of place.

The Raven thread got me thinking, has winning a tourney ever actually had an effect on a characters reputation outside tourneys? I think Jenny had a legit boost to her legacy as I've seen her being the first ms. /co/ brought up a lot over the years, even outside /co/. It sort of added to Spinel's board crashing legacy. Everyone else I think at most it makes any threads about them liable to mention tourneys for a year.

Do you guys ever think that this sentiment that FARTS and other 2000s picks dominating is the "natural" order Ms. /co/ was always supposed to arrive at based solely on 2018 (since 2019-2023 all had some sort of fuckery and cannot be used as reliable evidence) might be kind of artificial, exaggerated, and represent what /tnt/ wants more than what /co/ wants?
Genuine question here, not trolling. I can't be the only one who saw the contrast between /tnt/ treating Frankie and Raven's wins as finally getting "natural" winners vs the recurring sentiment of boredom and apathy towards those on /co/ itself.

Frankie and Raven winning do feel belated. It's something everyone either knows or figures should've already happened years ago. Their wins are like settling the score basically. Nah hold on, I believe this is genuine bait, how do you say this when /co/ was literally (and is to this day) jerking it off to TADC threads? People just happened to like Raven or Toph better as perfect candidates to close the elite 8 of Ms. /co/. Raven was using an image from the comics. Do you think even the other genuine Circusfags would let Ragatha win before Pomni, aka the main star, does? Also the only confirmed transcharacter is Zooble and she was kicked out and from what I've seen most of the talk is always the same shit with shipping Pomni and Jax.

Haven't we learned already a thing from the whole Grimm situation that discordfaggotry BARELY affects the tourney results? You CAN'T convince an entire group let alone even less than five people to vote in a poll dedicated to 4chan.

None of that shit matters. I don't believe in "silent" characters nor do I believe there's anything wrong with a character having a bunch of vocal support or a single, dedicated and highly prolific artist churning out content for them. And while it's disappointing to have your pick lose despite your effort, you have to keep things in perspective. Everyone loves their picks, but only one can win. The best way to not have regrets is to do what you can. Not to score imaginary campaign points to brute force a win, but to show off your pick and let people know how awesome they are.

This has been asked many times before, and the answer hasn't changed
>1. Be a well-liked and popular character
>2. Do not be a disliked or unpopular characte
When it's a well-liked character, people will ignore or damage control everything contentious around them like they do with Grimm.
Additionally, a single campaigner is unlikely to make a huge difference either way unless you're very productive, but even that doesn't help someone like Amity.

I'm not sure what exactly can boost your campaign aside from being at the right place right time, but I guess there are some things that can sink your campaign if your standing is iffy to begin with (as in give an excuse to shit on you to people that are looking for it):
>spam your niche pick a lot
>act entitled to victory because OC/freshness/whatever
>openly antagonize people and get into arguments
>be a spiteful sore loser
I was gonna say that it might be better to avoid too much of the spotlight altogether and sneak by quietly for as long as possible, but once your iffy niche pick gets several active campaigners it's pretty much inevitable it will get noticed and become controversial.

Got curious about another topic, but decided to look back at this early "rank the Elite Eight" post from Ms. /co/ 2021.
https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/125793337/#q125794299
Mostly did this out of boredom, but could be interesting to do this for other years if any other anons are interested.

>Average Ranking
1) Dominator - 3.3
2) Hilda - 3.7
3) Johanna - 4.1
4) Muriel - 4.6
5) Ms. Pauling - 4.7
6) Betty Boop - 4.8
7) Eris - 5
8) Sara Bellum - 5.4

>Medium
Hilda - 3
Dominator - 3
Ms. Pauling - 4
Johanna - 4
Eris - 4
Muriel - 5
Betty Boop - 6
Sara Bellum - 6

Hilda and Dominator had modes of 2 and 3, although funnily enough Hilda got zero top rankings. Interestingly, you could rank Betty, Sara, and Eris with their own modes of 6, 7, and 8 respectively. Both are obviously the bottom three as well, although Muriel and Pauling weren't that far behind on averages.

This is obviously way too small to be a significant statistic, but if these rankings were reflective of the final results:
>Dominator beats Johanna in a close bout (Johanna easily won)
>Hilda easily beats Eris (Hilda barely won)
>Pauling beats Sara (opposite happened, barely)
>Muriel narrowly defeats Betty (it was close, but Betty won)

>Dominator vs. Hilda is a nail biter, but Dominator narrowly pulls through
>Muriel beats Pauling by a hair

>Dominator easily wins over whoever won the second match

The most fascinating part here, other than Betty eventually winning, would be Johanna being the only clean win over her opponent of the quarterfinals. You could argue the bracket really didn't help the spite issue from this year. Sara likely only won due to a spike in backlash over Pauling getting in despite her series originally being vidya, and Betty likely benefited from growing concern over Muriel winning off VA pity. Then you get the Hilda match-up in semi-finals and the very close final match where Betty squeezed out.

It's pretentious to shit on other tournaments as-if they don't have great OC or campaigns of their own. It's just idiotic to look at a nuanced take of "there's more than JUST campaigns" and get upset over it.

Assuming you're that guy with the big greentext post earlier over in the King / Queen thread, saying King has the best OC and most fun atmosphere isn't a wild take at all. That's one of its strongest suits in my own eyes. Turning around and shitting on /co/ for whatever reason to defend King completely undermined that point and made it seem like you get upset at the notions these character tournaments are treated like, well, character tournaments.

However, you’re telling me you care more about multicolored, talking animals more than little Sally who was kidnapped in broad daylight and hasn’t been seen in years? It’s crazy. It’s not even a form of growth, it’s a form of control.
>This is whataboutism. People care about the latter too, they're just powerless to do anything about it and so prefer not to think about it too much.
I already knew all of this beforehand, but seeing someone spell out that people will harass others for fapping to or drawing art of underage characters just so they can feel like they’re making a difference since they can’t help actual children is the most depressing thing I’ve ever heard in a tournament thread.

If you mean the conversation I brought up current thread, I was specifically only bringing up one particularly bad issue that likely wasn’t from them, at least originally. The “candidate” still sucked and some of the reactions to it losing out on Elite Eight to an actual character were embarrasing. You don’t need the tranny spam as ammo to criticize Propane, and the main reason that it got bunched in beyond timing was because of the aforementioned issues around Propane.

Propane was a bad pick with some lame and disingenous supporters, but the specific issue that made them seem worse was also likely not solely tied to them at minimum. Both can be true, and I see little reason to not leave it at that. I would have gladly taken the timeline where the tranny spam didn’t happen and the criticism was solely centered around why Propane and its actual campaign were shit.

That's on purpose. I don't want different visitors to get different timestamps.
But I put in "local time" on the time hover if that helps. It just converts the timestamp to whatever your locale uses, so it may end up with different formats depending on whatever language your browser is set to.

Monarch and Betty seem fairly comparable in terms of being liked. The former only lost to the latter narrowly in both seeding and their match, and it seems almost certain Monarch’s getting 5th here.

There’s three clear tiers here.

>Spinel, Fang, and Wuya - the controversial winners
