Elite 8 members in both main and side need to step up since Mr. /co/lympus 2020. It's immeasurably disappointing that anons would nominate characters and expect them to coast through the competition based on their popularity or pure looks instead of busting their asses trying to campaign for them. It's embarrassing how they get outclassed by lower-tier winners like Jack Garland or Spinel or non-Elites like Dr. Livesey in every way.

I argued against the silent majority in Ms /co/ 2023 maybe a little too much and wanted to fess up, but then the Murder drones anons agreed with me so wholeheartedly and even repeated many of my points I just shit up and let them take the wheel from there. I hate Murder Drones.
If a character rubs me the wrong way I'll research their material to complain about them more accurately.
I only give a shit about a character properly being /co/ or /v/ in the male centric tournaments because I care about those ones more. The female tournaments don't mean enough to me to be bothered even if I usually campaign harder for the females than the males, because the few female characters that aren't shit need attentiom while there's loads of acceptable male winners in both tourneys.
It's kindof fun to rustle people's jimmies about a character, even if I like the character.
I'm very jealous of the gay anons getting to hornypost in tournaments and largely get away with it, I want to lust over the female characters but you'll get derided as a "coompick". Black cats with Swords was my favorite /cov/ team because of this.
I hate lolifags, not for some gay moral reason but because they by and large have legitimately horrible taste in vidya yet can accelerate random blah Warioware witch or Megaman shopkeeper NPC to the top 8 with no problems.

Queen's roster always has a bunch of wasted potential (and last year had a bunch of meme picks for some reason) and kind of fodder characters that could be taken out without anyone caring, but I do agree on Mr having the same roster quality as King, it feels like the competition for male tournaments is extremely tight so the 128 that actually gets in tends to be an all-star lineup even at the low seeds

So honestly, I do agree with you. Even though Queen might have the best selection of winners imo, the brackets always has some questionable picks and a lot of them aren't even campaigned for which makes it extra confusing.

Which is why this year I'll be focusing on the underdogs that haven't got in like Ame and Sybil. The winner will probably be another amazing pick anyways so I won't have to worry about the later stuff. Any other vidya girls you think should get more help during qualifiers? Preferably suggest ones that are from games that are a little bit older since I listed very recent examples.

If you think about it, the tournament order does make sense.

The worst received of the four shows, so it makes sense to get it out of the way first. It's also still often chaotic enough to keep things interesting.

A nice cool-off coming off the chaos of Ms. It's also just about guaranteed that the winner will be a hit and help set the precedent well whether or not Ms. had a popular champion.

/v/ has some crazy good artists and a bigger population, so it does somewhat raise the stakes after the two /co/ shows. The bracket qualifiers aren't as clean as what is expected the previous or following tournament, but the results and event itself are often quite enjoyable. Last year was the biggest exception to date for obvious reasons.

The most chaotic tournament, and yet also the most entertaining show. Even if you don't love all the winners, this almost HAS to be the finale every year with how much energy you can feel behind it.

I gotta say, any of you guys thinks it's dumb when people say a campaign "ruined" a character? I can understand the rare cases a fine character gets something EXCEPTIONALLY bad, (Frost 2022, and even then it's not irreversible) but it's not like redemption can't happen (Midna 2021 to Midna 2022 is a big example). I hope we get MORE redemption arcs, I hate seeing something get written off just because of a few fags.

Zero clue why XJ6 got forced in. Same with the guy suggesting Ruby. There's some connections there, they've both had strong qualifier runs that went nowhere and they fit the Teen Girl motif, but nothing to the same degree.

Crust, Cherrywell, and Creepy all organically came top 3 in qualifiers OC two years in a row, only one getting in each time(Susie in 2022, Tiff in 2023). That's random, that's fun, and it's not forced. Them all being Teen Girls with a C in one of their two names is just the cherry on top.

That's what good alliances are made of. Stick with those 3, XJ6 and Ruby and whoever else can be associates they shoutout if you really want, but stick to the core 3. Either take the alliance in stride and get all 3 in or at least continue the tradition and get Cheesecake in so all 3 have gotten a run in.

I think the Mr. characters are better for the reasons I mentioned in the post. King characters are not bad, but the bracket has more questionable characters on it that also get further than the questionable ones on the Mr. bracket. I'm not completely discouraging voting for or campaigning for joke characters. I like a few of these characters and have voted for and joked with them before, but King has the tightest qualifiers of the tournaments yet has the most joke characters. It can be a bit disheartening so many good and iconic picks get snubbed every year from even entering the tournament for more and more joke characters. I did want to try to be more serious with Kleiner's campaigning last year, but his opponents didn't really give me much to work with. Still done within Garry's Mod, mind you, I like the game and Kleiner is the best character as its representative.
Main reason why I didn't do any dumb "murder/violent" Gmod video like I did in 2022 (prior to Kleiner losing and getting into the Loser's Bracket, where it didn't matter) and went more with still scenes (which are more fun to do). Feel the issue extends a little beyond /tnt/ itself, but I agree fully with the actual point being said here. Might have even gone a little soft since I've seen characters with actual thread presence dogpiled by a few in the past for not being vocal enough despite that. While meta campaigns can be fun on their own if done right, the tournaments shouldn't just be some super insular events. It loses focus of the original goal, risks them becoming more stagnant, and turns off newcomers or more casual participants from joining in. On the last point, the main level of gatekeeping that should actually be kept is to people who actively visit the boards. If you're turning off actual civil anons, that's a problem.

I would say that even /tnt/ has been realizing this lately and backtracking on this sort of behavior. I imagine that all of the tournament drama, a handful of controversial tournament results, and finally the NSA bullshit have started to push against a lot of the deep tournament obsessions. Just looking at the side tournaments on here this year, a lot of the results have felt less weighted on meta shit and more on the actual characters.

People want high excitement and activity. That's the ideal, but a sizable minority has gotten to the point of trying to enforce it rather than let it happen (or not happen) naturally. It's gradually encouraged a strategy of simply being noisy and always online while seizing any opportunity to highlight how "silent" the other character is, which in these things usually just means no one has gotten around to it YET. I've started perceiving anyone describing a character opposing their main as "silent" or "sleeping" as not really having anything to add, because campaigning for a character in the truest sense doesn't require outside participation. They just need to visibly take up space to not be punished later by metafagging. It's a bastardization of the original intent.

Changing the way things happen on /co/ or /v/ will probably never happen.
Things happen the way they do on /tnt/ due to the board structure and userbase numbers, not necessarily just because /tnt/ has a "shitty entitled culture" that you can boogeyman. The people who are a "shitty entitled culture" will probably prop up in any tournament who run into the wall that is "popularity" in the face of their personal fun.

I will say the way things happen HAS changed on /co/ and /v/. There's a marked difference to how a tourney is approached from the first few years to years later, which is where everything about "meta" comes in. I think it's agreeable /tnt/ doesn't actually hold real influence. It probably holds as much influence as a heroes or villains tourney does on main tourney voting. However /tnt/ does in a sense symbolize that more "meta" attitude by its very nature as a tourney autist board. It's probably not amiss to say many of these people who express "entitled" opinions about the campaigns or who's more deserving with x or y meta do in fact come here, as tourney autists naturally would. So it's understandable /tnt/ becomes a defaulted boogeyman for this. I think it's somewhat inaccurate and makes the usual error that something is one person. On /tnt/ you can see anti-meta debating in fact goes on vehemently and many side tourneys will legit put most liked or fitting above campaigning in the end.

The fenneko thing kind of highlighted something I've been thinking about, which is there's a tasteful coompaigning and just cooming. The key phrase is making "porn of the tournament." Honestly I think Nintendo screwed up making Koizumi the Mario guy and Aonuma the Zelda guy. Aonuma designed the dungeons in Ocarina, which were almost all fantastic (including Water Temple, only filtered people complain) and Koizumi Mario is fine, he did Odyssey and Galaxy but I miss the older emphasis on strong level design and expressive physics. Are you going to hard reset the rules to 2019 Mr. /co/ / 2020 Ms. /co/ stats era rules?

NSA's rule changes were either forced in or voted on in an extremely iffy and rushed way, and she's been outed for rigging and going off-trip/using a different trip.

I can provide evidence of what /co/ proper wants on the matter if it would help, or sound arguments using logic and reasoning if you'd prefer. Or neither.
