>but they just didn't see your post!
Balls literally replied to the post right beneath mine, I have no doubts that he saw it. Besides there were many other people trying to warn the hosts about what was going to happen and how they could fix it before it was too late, but our concerns were all ignored and dismissed.
For the record I'm still willing to forgive the hosts for how badly they mismanaged this tournament but I want to hear a formal apology just to rest easy knowing they aren't the remorseless faggots who will do this again because they think everyone else is the problem that some people say they are

/v/hu has become pretty fucking bad but sometimes I go there just to check on them. Honestly I prefer the 404 on some occasions. /jp/ is pretty slow, on the other hand. As for the tourney, well we got Cirno and Alice, but Alice is just an Alice so she went down quick without a campaign. Cirno had more but is ultimately the secondary meme character and I guess the slight /dbs/ attachment wasn't of much help. Koishi maybe would've broke E8.

Koisneed would've dominated if she got 2huAlice's position in the bracket, but I guess it can't be help given the Alice Alliance will circlejerk literally anyone happened to be named Alice into the 128 and Cirno is a permanent series limit slot fixture. Maybe winning Barred will give her the push she needs next year?
Either way 2hu has to be probably the most damned of any of the series hit by the 2 per winner series rule. Let's see we've got
>Metroid: Doesn't matter
>Touhou: Just look at how many 2hus have enough votes to qualify each year, that one slot lost shits on all of them
>Recettear: Doesn't matter, I don't think Tear has even qualified yet (to be fair this year she got screwed over by a duplicate nomination)
>Legend of Zelda: Kind of? There's Zelda obviously but pretty much all the other characters one might pick are secondaries, though Malon proved they can be wildcards. Would be funny to see yet another Zelda character get E8 before Zelda herself

I think it'll be fine, whenever some shitstorm happens in one tournament it usually clears by the next, maybe in the nominations and qualifiers it's still a lingering fart in the air but it tends to get cleared out once round one starts and people start their campaigns. For example as awful as any of the bad Ms. /co/ dramas were (2019 peruvian brigading, 2021 rampant metagaming, 2022 big rigs, 2023 e-mails) they all became pretty much forgotten about once their respective Mr. /co/lympus counterparts came around.

You just KNOW the King finals are going to be filled with seethe about the losers' bracket ending before E8, no chance to steal the crown, the Queen sissies robbing them of their fun and dimes, etc. Especially if Doomguy or Battlet is out early again, their supporters will whine that the finals would be so much better if they had a chance for an epic comeback.

The one thing that I actually am baffled by in this tournament.
Scouts mom, literally a NON-CHARACTER, who got three-ruled last year was the second and only other TF2 character to enter in Queen /v/ in this year. Administrator, Pyro and even Silvia were infinitely better options but people for some mysterious reason decided they preferred a boston whore.
This is quite literally coming from the guy who nominated the character in the first place and the only reason I did so was so other contenders had better chances.

Just remind them that their "beloved" grand finals would come at the cost of their afterparties as was the case in Queen and they'll shut up.
Also petition to make "Prince of /v/" the unofficial nickname for the 9th place recipient, it changes nothing but makes the loser's bracket winner sound more prestigious, might result in good crossover OC with the winner too

Yay! Another robot defeated! That was a peice of cake! These new eyes made me see through all her tricks!

Now I've got your power!

AGH! Wh-what's happening to me!
>Foolish housekeeper. Did you think I would be so easily beaten?

>The digital world is exactly where I wanted you!
>You're simplistic programming is but a children's toy compared to me.
N-No! I-I'll still beat you!

Roll may have won the battle but can she win the war inside her own mind? Tune in next time on Queen of /v/!

Author's Notes
This one was when Roll was going up against Shodan. It's also when I started making comics. Shodan's lack of any sprites besides her face meant I had to make my own crude sprites. Which is why Roll already "beat" Shodan physically. But still has to beat Shodan when she tries to take over her body. The one I did use was from the DOS version (I'm pretty sure).
If Shodan had beat Roll I would've kept going just with Shodan in control of Roll's body.

This image was blown up twice its original size.

Falling for Shodan's trap feels silly, and somewhat embarrassing. But I still won in the end! And absorbing Shodan gave me her incredibly large, almost endless intellect! I can interface with any machine, hack into even the most secure systems, I might be more smart than Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, and Dr. Cossack put together! In fact I'm probably the smartest being on earth! Maybe I can even guide humanity to being safer and more prosperous! Yes, that sound nice! Wa-wait I'm getting off track!
Anyway my next opponent! Shantae, half-genie half-human from Sequin Land, guards Scuttle Town from pirates, can use her magic to transform and perform spells. I've already figured out over 1,178 ways to beat her in a fight! Too bad Sequin Land is lacking in technology, otherwise I could be tracking her every movement right now! Perhaps I'll just wait for her to come to me! Then I can set up a devious trap for her! Imagine just how much more powerful I'll be once I absorb her powers! I've already thought of 864 possibilities!

Author's Notes
This one was made after Roll beat Shodan. It's really heavy on the writing, but it was meant to show how Roll now had Shodan's Intellect and that it was possibly corrupting her so I guess rambling on for some time was fitting.
Roll now Shodan's Intellect and had gained green lines similar to Shodan's. An anon suggested it and I thought it looked good.

I've finally found you Roll!

Shantae! Right on cue! Are you ready for a fight!

Of course I am. I'm winning this tournament! Are you ready to lose?

Answer this first Shantae. Have you heard of Yoku Blocks?

What Blocks? What are yo-AAAAAHHH *SPLASH*

Huh! Where am I!

Welcome to my trap Shantae. Meet my friend Bubble Man.

This isn't fair Roll! You should be fighting me one on one!

Well if you can overcome this challenge then we'll face off. Good luck Shantae.

Finally! There's no where to run Roll.

So you've finally made it. Alright Shantae, you want a one on one. You've got it!

Roll there's something different about you. You..you don't seem like yourself anymore!

Oh the contrary Shantae. I've never felt better! Shodan's Intelligence has given me a whole new perspective on things!

I'm gonna beat you and make you come to your senses!

Wrong, I'm going to beat you and absorb your powers!

Author's Notes
This one was for Roll vs Shantae. Since some anons were disappointed we didn't get to see Shodan!Roll I decided to try and give them a bit of what that might've been like so this comic was all about Roll going on a powertrip and being a bit full of herself after gaining Shodan's Intellect, trapping Shantae in a boss fight against Bubble Man before going face to face. The highlight for me in this one is the Roll face I did for the screen.

This was Roll vs Miku. The boastful Roll gets humbled by Miku with a huge blast of energy. I saw big DBZ energy balls in Miku's sprite sheet and thought it'd be funny to see her blast Roll. It fit well into making their fight an idol battle followed up by and actual fight of them with Roll's Broom and Miku's Leek. Also I wanted to keep Miku's dialogue in japanese. It helped create the "you are already dead" joke at the start.

Alright, we'll take a half hour for lunch then we fight.

Author's Notes
Here's Roll vs Fio, the very first idea was to have them stop for lunch before they fight and the sprite of Fio holding guns in each hand with a confidant smirk on her face really helps sell the joke that they're all ready to have a big fight until the just stop and have lunch.
This was also the first comic to not have a Mega Man background instead having a Metal Slug background.

Part 1
Hello Roll.

Bayonetta.

I think we both know why we're here.

Of course. I'm pulling out of this loser bracket!

Well little one if you want it, you'll have to earn it!

Part 2

WELCOME FOOLS!

Shodan!

I REMEMBER YOU ROLL! DID YOU REALLY THINK YOU COULD DEFEAT ME? I SIMPLY ESCAPED IN A BACKUP! THAT IS A MISTAKE I WILL NOT MAKE AGAIN! I WAS A FOOL TO UNDERESTIMATE THE PROGGRAMING SKILLS OF YOUR DR. LIGHT.

What the matter Shodan? Were you planning on trapping one of us after we tired ourself out fighting? Since you aren't sitting back and letting us fight. I imagine something's got you preoccupied?

YOU'RE USING MY INTELLECT WELL ROLL. WHY YES, I REQUIRE MORE TIME ALONE TO PROPERLY DEAL WITH THIS "ALICE". SO I'VE DECIDED I NEED TO KEEP YOU BOTH PRE-OCCUPIED!

Part 3

Well dearie look like she's got us surrounded.

We're only getting out of this if we work together Bayonetta.

You and I can dance later. We've got some unwanted company to deal with.

I'm way ahead of you Bayo!

YOU ARE BOTH FOOLS. YOU TWO HAVE NO HOPE TO SURVIVE!

Author's Notes
This was the Roll, Bayo, Shodan, Alice 4 Way. Apparently this one never got put into full comic form. For this one I had Roll use Miku's ability. I once again apologize to Alice fans for not featuring her. I wrote around Alice's absence by making her Shodan's priority over Roll and Bayo. So Shodan just traps Roll and Bayo together while she goes off to deal with Alice. Guess Shodan's trap worked.

What pick in King this year is going to try taking traits off opponents and blow it? The few in Queen had a fun time with it, but it helped they weren't pushed too hard aside from Roll (who executed it very well due to it being in-character). I feel people will be more critical of it in King after how much it played into Garland's campaign last year.

I think it just depends on what character will try it. At least with Garland, it made a bit of sense considering his game's loot system, but it can't work with every character. It would be kino for a Roland or Garcian Smith campaign though.

If you mean about telling people to vote Curly or Ammy, it's not really about any one thing
I just wanted things to calm down, really. I liked aspects of the loser's bracket, but
>It went on for way too long, exhausting me
>I never actually wanted the bracket, but was playing the game since it was available to me and I wanted to draw and have fun
>Knowing from how previous tourneys handled shitstorms, I preferred to stay away from the eye of the storm since I know how retarded posters get with vendettas, and with the previous falseflags there was not much reason to antagonize
>I actually sort of wanted Amaterasu to win the entire thing, but I liked Curly too
It was a bunch of factors coming together to make me decide if it was worth it or not, and I didn't think it was.
Next year I could probably run her better anyway, cause now she at least has noteworthy tourney history but no weird bracket whipping up drama.

I think having two general favorites in normal finals really escalated reactions against the mixed bracket. I am not against the concept of double elimination as well. I just think it wasn't handled well here. It wasn't clarified enough aside from the one notification in OP, there was NO bracket record as it was ongoing (which seemed wild), four ways had a weird effect on strategy, and the way they merged so awkwardly at the end was an issue. If polished out I feel this concept could work so much better.

Fact of the matter is, and I'm not even trying to funpost, I didn't really know much about Recette until her win. She feels like she'd normally be a round 2 jobber. People argue that many don't know Curly but I played Cave Story before I even entered 4chan. Anybody who checked out the Wii's online shop probably did, and I remember seeing a demo that I eventually missed. Then on PC years later I played it and it was a blast. Recette was a fun winner but is out of place. I don't think Etna ever made it far but Disgaea was also talked about a lot back in the day and she always qualifies regardless (I prefer Flonne but it is what it is). In fact Flonne would probably work better because of anti-coom spitevoters. I dunno, I just think that's one series that could get the Recette treatment if someone cared enough.

Alice was such a lame pick. Most only know her for Marisa stuff, and that's not why I like her but she only got in because of the Alice circlejerk. Koishi probably would've made it further but Reimu broke some people into not wanting Touhou in E8 again (watch as it happens next year when it's a different character). I don't expect another queen, but E8 can happen and I think Koishi could pull it off, although I predict there would be some falseflagging and controvery regarding her. Just a hunch.

You know, in hindsight, the coper's bracket didn't really do that much for the actual underdogs, did it? The four final girls were:

>a #1 seed
>a previous finalist
>a popular coompick
>SHODAN

SHODAN is probably the biggest underdog and the lowest seed of them all, so her winning is good, but in the end, most of the actual underdogs still got beaten along the way. That underdog narrative kind of stopped making sense after the Quarterfinals.

E8 going into coper's was stupid. I think a round 1/2 jobber bracket would've been more interesting but some characters get assfucked by matchups. I remember rooting for Wile E. Coyote and Sue Sakamoto except Sue lost to Helltaker and Wile E. lost to someone strong in 2022, don't recall who. There's Yuuma too but I don't see her making it since she's only gotten popular recently and isn't anywhere near the rest, and she isn't a coom pick. She'd work well for Villains at least.

With respect to Cirno's supporters, I feel Cirno and Flandre is the most "secondary" selection you could have for Touhou. Why I'm hoping it doesn't happen again, unless Flandre somehow got a surprisingly good campaign going. Feel it would just be silent voters pushing her in though due to notoriety.

>Marisa wasn't qualified this year, so it might be Koishi and Cirno.
I can see that. Still surprised Marisa did THAT poorly in qualifiers. Are people just tired of her at this point? I'll also say Clownpiece always gets decent voting results even if I'm not too confident in how she'd fare on the bracket.

>Or it's gonna somehow be Sanae and she'll hit E8. I don't fuckin know.

Honestly I don't think that every other character in the series should be dragged down because Reimu already won. I feel that way about winning series in general, but I feel it applies most to Touhou and Metal Gear since we're a couple years off from when they won, and it sucks seeing fun characters like Koishi and Raiden getting fucked over in recent years over winning series spite.

Cirno is secondary as hell too. I just don't mind her as much because she's somewhat fun. Youmu would be an okay choice but I think she doesn't hit the marks people want in Queen. People joke about her being a dude but she's probably more to King's taste. Sanae is seen as Reimu 2 to many and that's either a good thing or a bad thing.

Regarding series that feel overdue, kind of weird Mario as a series hasn't gotten King yet, but scrimblos notoriously fail. I really expected Ridley to do better but I guess Samus winning did a number. My prediction is if Mario gets good matchups and a good campaign (which will apparently happen) he will be a finalist. Jack Frost beat him but it was necessary for the meme finale. Imagine for a sec if that didn't happen. There's also Wario who consistently does well, and Geno could surprise. I think a Mario character could end up winning this year. Here's what series I think could win King this year:
>Mario
The series seems to be building momentum since King last year with Mario qualifying again and Luigi making it to E8, and the whole thing with Bowser in Queen this year. Anons have been talking about wanting to campaign for Mario and Geno for King this year, and Wario is coming back who's always been a heavy hitter and was an OC machine back in 2021, which I imagine will continue this year. Mario and Wario have the best shots at winning, although I think Wario is the much more likely of the two since Mario has the stigma of being basic and vanilla.
>Sonic
Let's be real, the only Sonic character that could win is Eggman. Every other character that qualifies loses the first round. Eggman could definitely have a shot after his run in 2021, where he took down multiple heavy hitters in a row. If his supporters start early with him (his campaign in 2021 only really started in quarter-finals), he could take the crown.
>Yakuza
Kiryu's the only one with a real shot. The only character to consistently qualify is Majima, and he's a mid-carder at best. Kiryu could have a shot at winning it all given his past performance and LaD Gaiden being well received on the board, but his supporters will need to be more active. There have been some anons interested in campaigning for him, so he should be good on that end at least.
>TF2
All nine mercs will be eligible for the first time since 2019, the summer update broke player records, and TF2fags seem to be excited for their chances this year, so they'll most likely be campaigning hard. I think Heavy and Scout have the best shots this year. Heavy is in a similar situation to Kiryu where both are strong contestants despite minimal campaigning, and he could potentially be an OC machine because of his simple design making drawing him easy and Gmod and SFM funposts being an easy way of making OC if you can't draw, but whether or not he will be campaigning remains to be seen. Scout is also a former E8 member and always gets great campaigns, plus people are still sad about his loss last year, so things could potentially work in his favor this year.

Well without his recent traction, I could see why he wouldn't have a good shot. Two I mentioned are pretty big favorites, and history even shows them getting blocked by unfortunate match-ups. Soon as they made it, they easily ended up in 2nd and 4th, respectively.

>>69076
>Goro Majima
Best example here. People love him about as much as Kiryu, so the fact he's NEVER gotten in is kind of surprising. Hell, he's had campaigning, right?
>Captain Falcon
I could see it happening finally due to the meme, depending on his bracket.
>Bowser
Didn't remember he actually made Round 4. Will have to see if his supporters actually speak up this year, but if so then I feel there's a better shot of at least one extended pick making Elite this year (even if it's just Wario).
>Kirby
He got damn close in 2021, but at the same time I still think it's surprising Dedede doesn't do better in these.
>Gordon Freeman
Hard to say whether he's overdue or doomed to mid-round purgatory. He's silent by design, but also a significant icon.
>Funky Kong
Could see him making it this time due to Mario Kart, but compared to the others above he feels more like a fluke pick.

It all depends on the bracket, but as of right now I can see another 4 returning, 4 new split for King's Elite Eight this time.

Yeah, I usually see him posted more with Kiryu, although I think the reason he's never made top 8 is due to some horrible bracket luck.

Aim was for the losers' bracket to merge in with the main one at the end. Hosts still call Curly vs. Amaterasu the finals with no further specification. People get upset between minimal clarification over how the mixed bracket would work, said label, and the general tournament atmosphere not really faring well into this extension. To make matters worse, most hosts were thinking they would jump right to a grand finals, but it was clarified last minute that there would be a losers' finals in the middle. This in particular caused things to boil over due to general disinterest in said match. Add on the hosts doing little to clarify how overall rankings would be handed out, and people weren't happy. In the end, a referendum was held instead in the grand finals to see whether the results would focus on both brackets or just the main one. Anons went with the latter.

In short, tournament was supposed to go on a bit longer, but the execution was messy. Nobody aside from a couple trolls/naysayers is really arguing about Curly winning at least, for what it's worth.

Nah I am, just been lurking & reading. Honestly feels a little surreal going from just sorta there in 2022 King to being a forefront choice for King 2023's host.

To answer you question: I'm just not sure man.
I've gotten pretty good at making Forums since my first outing & I'm up for potentially hosting a smaller tournament like /an/ 2024 or the /b/ crack-fuelled free-for-all but mainline stuff feels too high stakes for a laxer guy like me. And then you add in other things like IRL life, hobbies and whatnot outside these tournaments that makes it an even bumpier ride.
It's not completely out of the question for me, but I reeeeeally wouldn't count on it either. You think Bottomanon would be interested?

And unless proven schizophrenic I shall take all sound criticisms to my campaign and my pick's run as an attack against the many hours of effort I have already dedicated

It would be a shock to see Geno not make it, but whether he does well is a whole other matter. I'm sure he'll be seen in a fairly positive light, but that doesn't always translate to votes.

Mallow depends on whether people are really feeling SMRPG in general after the remake. People interesting generally seem to love the Switch release or at least find it fairly fine, but whether that would lead to more voting it into the bracket aside from Geno is another matter. I feel Mallow would also have a hard time getting a campaign off the ground, although that's certainly not determined most who qualify in the past. Hell, I think there's actually a chance that we could see Smithy or Culex even voted up if the recency bias is THAT strong.

Smithy, maybe. I think he could be a fun character, with his gang and wanting to fill the world with weapons.
Culex is not happening, he's a Final Fantasy character. IF he's even nominated, he MIGHT get enough votes to not be in the bottom 128.
