"funpost queen" Konata is one of the few universal 4chan girls it feels like. Got me thinking who would win a ms. 4chan but it occurred to me it'd be like 80% /a/ so the non-/a/ girls that'd be contenders I can think of:
>Miku
>Cirno
>Jenny (she's legit become a site-wide popular classic waifu, see her often on other boards)
>Zone-tan
>Madotsuki
>bury pink girl
>Boxxy

Admittedly, I'm kinda a newfag when it comes to tournaments, but can someone explain to me what the term "darling" means? It's not even listed on the terminology page on the wiki.
No.247661
Anonymous
>>247659
"/tnt/ darling" came about as a term for characters that are particularly appreciated by the crowd here and tend to do exceptionally well during the secondary tournaments while not necessarily being very noteworthy in the main board. Erika Furudo, for example, has made top 8 three times (including being the runner-up in Villains of /v/ and /cov/ 2024), but as of 2026 she hasn't qualified for a single Queen of /v/ edition.

Conversely, a lot of people apply it to just about any character that is perceived as a sacred cow and treated beyond criticism when involved in some controversy, especially if they a have prominent fanbase here.
No.247662
Anonymous
>>247659
It was a term that originated in 2023-2024 to refer to characters that consistently do really well in the small side tournaments and at the same time struggle to even qualify for the main ones. Characters that have been considered /tnt/ darlings in those years include:
>Loona
>Mrs Brisby
>Ruber and John Silver
>Mao Mao and Morgana
>Erika Furudo
>Matias Torres
>Little Mac

Tbqh this term isn't very relevant these days. The campaigners for most of these characters have retired or moved on, and I struggle to think who could be considered a "darling" these days. Maybe Miko and Grox, but it's not on the same level as the Plunderers back in the day. The other thing is that /tnt/ has kinda gone to shit since then and most side tourneys this year feel too forced and inorganic to single out darlings.

By those metrics, she is one. She struggled to qualify half the time and when she does she's a quick round 1-2 out, not to mention her supporters crashing the loli contest once she lost.

Thanks for the replies. However, I do see some people use the term for certain characters to stir up drama or misuse it, even if the character struggles in any of the /tnt/ side tournaments.
Playgirl and Playboy don't count. Those are tournaments hosted on /trash/.

I think a big and unsolveable problem is anyone can basically do whatever they want as far as making a tourney, regardless of what anyone says or if it's contextually timed well or actually worth doing. And then naturally there will be always some traction and acknowledgment (wiki playing a big role). The world cup /co/ thing was one of the most forced and least hype strange tourneys ever but it still got something going and major wiki acknowledgement. It's always been an implicit potential problem but 2025 onward we now have plenty of examples of new hosts (troll or not) just saying fuck it to everything.

Since there was talk of power-ups and autistic cataloguing in the /co/ thread I made a tier list of unfortunate fates of all the runner-ups up to 2023. The all over the place tier is for characters who don't consistently make E8 or like Johanna have an occasional mid tier run that raises them slightly above the fodder. Raiden technically didn't make E8 in 2022 but it was literally by 4 votes so I still put him up a tier.

2024 and 2025 obvously not included, but if I were to wager the performances of the returning 2024 ones:

The year of tournaments hasn't even started, unless you think filler team tournaments participated in by the same dozen fags hold more weight than the main 4chan tournaments that represent the tastes of and are decided by hundreds of different anons from the board's general userbase
If the filler /tnt/ tourneys suck then come back for the main 4chan events that actually matter, not that the /tnt/ ones are inherently bad or anything but they're also pretty clearly just time killers for people to satiate their tourney addiction until the /co/ and /v/ tournaments start, and if they aren't fun then you're not missing anything of note by skipping them

People were just really mad at the retarded host of /cov/ and impulsively scrubbed everything related to him from the wiki. The /tv/ tourneys are the biggest casualty here since the "consensus" on them basically did a 180 as people had been generally accepting of them before that. I still don't think they should've been deleted.

/tv/ was just two red links that had no actual pages; the "scrubbing" there was just deleting them off the front page.
You may call that hot headed but the fact that no one made pages for them, when every other tourney got one, kind of shows people were polarized on the attempt before hand.
No.249408

I'm fine with not every tourney getting a page, in fact arguably only the main four and maybe tag and co-op should've had pages. Making a page for everything has probably encouraged all the random and suspect events in recent years (trying to make their attempt 'canon' or something).

Being a dumbass isn't the same as being malicious. Neo reminds me of Temp a bit in that way, they are both bullheaded and stupid and don't listen/listen at the wrong times, but I don't think either of them set out to cause harm specifically. (this isn't defending Neo doing all that dumb shit, I'm just pointing out there's some hypocrisy and he's not the worst host we've had)

I just explained why people would have hated Freedom Fighters winning, we know what happened if The Freemen won(Team carried by campaigning of a obscure Russian webtoon who only made it to the finals because an opponent was disqualified), and if Switch Techs had won people would be bringing up the old lady from Family Guy and talking about how the thread told Neo she was an OC and he didn't listen and comparing him to NSA. The procedure for how to handle disqualification this late in the game wasn't really set in stone and still isn't.

In hindsight it really would have been nice if Hank J Wimbleton and Postal Dude had won and I feel like the second the tournament ended people regretted not backing them because we ended up with 3 bad options.

We did cut him slack, he came back multiple times after multiple screw ups and only permanently fucked off from trying to host after his failed attempt to get NSA to abandon Ms. /co/ in 2023, he hasn't posted on /co/ with his name or trip since. Neo hasn't fucked up nearly as badly yet. And I was actually referring to how Gabe has been plopping out multiple shitty tournaments and now the /an/ host and still Neo is the one getting the most scorn. The wiki hasn't really been super consistent on the whole "in good faith" thing

Also, some of you guys probably don't remember this, but they almost lost to Jenny and Mega Man in round 2. I think Neo (or some other scumbag) was trying to rig them out from the very beginning.
