Y'know something that's been bothering me this whole time ever since the movie leaked when thinking about the tournaments in retrospect; had Pomni or Ragatha won their respective debut years, just how badly and how quickly would have things aged?
It was always quite stupid to me how Pomni was seemingly "winner material" with as little as two episodes worth of content.

Pomni could still win this year but she if doesn't I feel vindicated in saying they were blowing their load too prematurely in 2024 with just two fucking episodes out. Had Pomni ran in 2025 she'd have been Ragatha X2 and stomped it.

This is why people are always so hesitant to have a winner for a currently airing show, beyond just FOTM
It is super easy for the show to end badly and do other fuckery to the characters that would make the winners look awful retrospectively. People always prefer when a show finishes so you know what you are getting

My point is the film being demographically relevant and liked is obviously an additional appeal to Chel seeing as people know her and associate her with (probably) having watched her as a kid and the movie being fine too.

I really think it less to do with the movie at all and more that Chel has one of the sexiest and envelope pushing designs in western animation. It would explain why the movie is never talked about in campaigns (or Chel threads) and why the main characters get ignored in the male tournament.
