Y'know something that's been bothering me this whole time ever since the movie leaked when thinking about the tournaments in retrospect; had Pomni or Ragatha won their respective debut years, just how badly and how quickly would have things aged?
It was always quite stupid to me how Pomni was seemingly "winner material" with as little as two episodes worth of content.

A lot of people criticize GLITCH for giving too much weight to their merchandising spaces (to the point the theatrical leak of the movie ended with an advertisement, lol), but with something like TADC it feels like the actual main aim is to come up with icons that are appealing to the "fandom" demographic. The characters, at best, all represent very basic archetypes that people can easily latch onto for the purpose of shipping, fanart, and waifufagging, with little regard for almost everything else - they're just OCs for the sake of being OCs that happen to look cool enough, rather than proper characters. It's not too different from how Xitter artisans will be fixated on drawing some goth girl design that becomes a trend and lasts about a week.

I think about this a lot.

Since we're talking about how no one cares about Spider-Man Noir, let's look at upcoming tv and movies that might have an effect on the tournament.
-Supergirl: Last year's Superman movie managed to give him the boost he needed so it might work for Supergirl depending on how it's received. Being in June could cause the hype to fizzle by September.
-Lanterns: Closer in proximity to the tournaments but the reception hasn’t been good so far. Unless it somehow manages to turn things around during the actual show (doubtful), Hal and John aren't getting a boost. Not like Guy did any better last year anyways.
-Clayface: Will be right in October but possibly after mr. has concluded and even if it's received well, I don't Clayface is the villain that has what it takes to go far or will have many backers. Batfags could use the movie hype to benefit themselves, especially if Bats makes a surprise appearance.

Probably not even close. The Doomies show might have a better shot if the paranormal mystery lore hits since that is the bait they always gets the online animation dorks.
But really Disney (and CN/Nick) lost the cultural zeitgeist by stopping making shows largely, so everyone moved on and new products will not have the same impact they did even half a decade ago. Right now it is indie (especially but not exclusively Glitch) which will have new characters qualify for tournaments. Others will not have momentum unless they really break out.

I mean if that were true, I Don't Want To Be A Magical Girl, Satina, Loki IRL, etc would be a qualifying force to be reckon with but not a lot of consistency there. Furthermore, Drones not even qualifying last year and you admitting no one cares about GD throws a wrench into the whole "Glitch does well for itself" thing.
On the flip side, wouldn't Owl House and Amphibia still qualifying count for the Big Three/Disney since they aren't that old?
