To ask the age old question, where do other East Asian animations fall in?
Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese. They have had threads on both boards that do fine and they have had threads on both boards that get pruned. /co/ calls itself a space for Western Cartoons, and that's about as un-west as it gets. /a/ says it's for anime, but the Japanese definition of that is useless and the English definition is disputed.

India is it's own third category, Bollywood animation is seperate from both Western Animation and anime.

As for the Oriental states, no clue. Most of Asia is kind of in a weird middleground. Western animation covers Europe, Australia, and The Americas, and Africa and the Middle East doesn't really do much animation.

Africa is it's own thing along with the ME, The Indian Subcontinent is it's own thing, Phillipines is a Western one.

China and the Koreas should 100% be allowed. A quick google, everyone calls it anime, just with the country in front (Chinese Anime, Korean Anime, North Korean Anime). They're on anime streaming sites, they're allowed on the reddit and on 4chan. Zero issue here.

Outside of that I did a close look.

India should absolutely NOT count(Not sure if it should be in the Western/co/ bucket either, but that's a different discussion).

Vietnam, Thailand, and Mongolia all tread somewhere down the middle. It definitely looks anime esque, but there's also some western influence and a bit of their own spin. Laos and Cambodia have barely any material, but similar bucket. I literally couldn't find anything from Burma.

They're about as similar to Japanese anime as Western Animation is to Soviet animation. Closer than not, but a difference. If you're comparing them to Chinese Anime it's more like the difference between US and French animation.

So definitely South Korea, North Korea, and China. And an argument could be made for Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Thailand. Most of these places barely have any animation though, Vietnam is the biggest sample size and it's also easily the closest especially if you're comparing it to Chinese anime.

Honestly I'd let everything in the greater Sino-Japanese Cultural Region in, cleanest move.

Vietnam's older works were a cultural hybrid(probably due to South Vietnam era stuff), but as of late they've increasingly pivoted to copying Chinese and Japanese animation techniques. Look at stuff made in the last 5 years.
