I don't think the show ever touched upon that, although my gut/headcanon inclines me to believe that this assessment is correct. Between rebuilding society after the collapse and dealing with the recently arrived Murder Drones I don't think mining for raw material was considered a priority by any of the workers.
I could, however, see drones mining for the sake of carving out hidden underground shelters as an alternative to hiding out within fortified outposts

She walks up to them kneels down, and starts giving them little balls of chicken, which they eat with little “Nyam nyam” sounds.

>Caleb flies over the city, covering miles within seconds, his eyes flicking back and forth in a way that'd make him look insane to bystanders. He's out scouting ahead of the green divison, searching for anyone or anything at this point, but all he's met with is the same sight as always: nothing but tilted buildings that slump over as if they're about to fall asleep, surrounded by structures that are less than half of what they used to be.
>Vacant cars are strewn across across the unlit streets, several ravines have formed in the asphalt as the ground itself splits apart, large chunks of earth are floating up a hundred feet above ground level, the gravitational anomalies seem to be taking hold of this side of the planet as well. He's seen this same sight every day for however many days now, yet he never grows any more accustomed to it.
>Caleb was never one stand by and let things happen without intervening. That's exactly why he took on the noble task of saving everyone he could find. He couldn't bear to stay in a cushy seat and just watch as millions perished. To everyone else, it was a statistic, a number, something impossible to fully grasp. Not to him. To him, every death was a tragedy, while every rescue was a job well done.
>He took no pride in his work, as this was never about proving himself to anyone, this was about fulfilling an obligation. All he has is his bare hands, a concealed sword and very good eyesight.
>Speaking of eyesight, Caleb does manage to catch something in the corner of his eye: there seems to be something buried underneath rubble roughly 2 miles away... An arm... That's an arm sticking out! Non-decomposed, rubble doesn't look too heavy, plenty of space underneath it... This could be it, this could be a real, live human that got trapped under a pile of rocks, a common case.
>Caleb is so ecstatic to finally spot a survivor that instead of flying over there, he chooses to warp to the collapsed building just to save a few seconds, creating a red streak across the sky as he does so. Paradoxically, he somehow finds the patience to loom over the scene for a moment, waiting for the human to make any sudden movement, even a tiny twitch... Though the arm remains as still as any other object. No matter, they might be unconscious. The overseer descends down onto the broken piece of wall, lifts it off the ground and...

>A corpse. A fresh one, at that. That's why it wasn't decomposed, this person died in this horrific confined space mere hours ago. The body is of a man: he was wearing some military gear and carrying an impressive amount of equipment on him, though it's clear he wasn't a soldier. That man was one of the few brave ones that scavenged around and fought back instead of hiding and waiting to be rescued like more sensible people.
>Some would say he had it coming, as only a madman would choose roaming the streets over safety. These people either die fighting alongside other humans, or they die cold and alone, like this gentleman. He got off easy at the very least, must've been quite the experienced scavenger to not only lie low and avoid getting swooped up and torn apart by a disassembly drone, but to also accumulate such a large quantity of resources.
>This man's poor decision-making skills don't make it any easier for Caleb to choke his grief, though. If only he was at the right place at the right time... Maybe this human's efforts wouldn't have gone to waste... Maybe he would've survived. Caleb releases an exasperated sigh, leaning on the wall with one arm and looking down at the corpse.
>"...Godspeed."
>He closes his eyes and stands there for a while, rubbing his temples, then his forehead and sighing every once in a while. Several minutes pass by without him even noticing, enough time for the green division to catch up to him.

>"Sir, we've been looking for you!" A juggernaut says as he strides into the messy remnants of a room, crushing a few knick-knacks under his feet by accident. Morrison follows suit, albeit more carefully, slowly walking in and taking a look around before his focus shifts back to Caleb Maxwell.
>"Is your search complete?" The juggernaut asks.
>"Yes... It is."
>"Any survivors sighted, sir?"
>"Take a look." He stands aside to show them the body, "Throw him onto the vessel, why don't you?"
>"Understood." The evacuator unit takes it literally and approaches the body, though Caleb puts a hand on his chest to stop him.
>"That was sarcasm. Regroup." He orders. The big fella immediately runs off back to his squadmates.
>Caleb sits down on the floor, his back against the wall. Morrison sits next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. His visor, which usually has a few small spikes in its "chart" flattens into a straight, red line. He senses that something is wrong, though even a blind man could see what a terrible mood Caleb is in today.

>The overseer looks to his side and groans. Morrisson hasn't said anything, wont say anything, but Caleb still knows he wants to talk, and god damn does he need someone to talk to right now.
>They sit in silence for a bit before Caleb finally obliges and speaks up.

>"...Yup." He smiles, pulling out a perfectly intact, unopened can of beer he had been storing within his amorphous structure. Handlers can't drink beer, they're not able to digest whatever's edible to organic beings, overseers on the other hand... ol' Moe's been storing this for a reason.

I don't think he will, at least not to interact with the threads directly as a personality. I used to be in contact with him regularly, would chat and bounce ideas off him, we drew eachother's current brainrot characters, etc.
He's just not an inherently social dude, the same time that he left the threads he pretty much evaporated his socials, outright deleted the account I knew him by, and just fucked off back to anon status.
Maybe at some point in time if he gets drones on the brain again he'll just drop a drawing here or in /co/, but I think he just doesn't want to be involved directly in "thread culture" at all.
