Mario's adventure is gonna get odd or I basically copy pasted this from the Nintendo gen on /vg/ edition old thread here ==> >>199859 Switch Presentation Here: //youtube.com/watch?v=uuC4YLLkqME Nintendo Switch Treehouse Stream Here: //youtube.com/watch?v=qadzCB3CLlI Learn More about the Switch's Features here: http://www.nintendo.com/switch/
If Nintendo drops a "killer app" game around the holidays — "Super Mario Odyssey" would be the most likely candidate — it could have a hell of a good run this year.
I think they should really focus on being a mainstream console with portability as its main draw. How many people don't want Doom on their commute, seriously.
AH SHIT MOTHERFUCKERS, NO MORE HEROES 3! I hope Shinobu is the main character this time around. https://twitter.com/suda_51/status/819769525876854785
>>201575 People who hacked their PS VITA? But, yes, Nintendo needs to capitalize on what the switch can uniquely deliver to make bank this console generation. Especially if the switch is their handheld and console entry. Eggs n baskets, you know?
If they can deliver on that Rumble HD brining some enhanced realism than I'd be interested. It's all well and good for Valve to talk about the Steam and Vive gear being about to communicate things like texture and objects with the haptics. It's another to have game that actually use it.
So Fire Emblem Gaiden is getting a remake and it actually looks kinda interesting. The story seems to be attempting some degree of nuance compared to what FE: Fates tried and failed miserably at.
>>201592 I'm excited; Gaiden's pretty janky but I always thought that was part of the fun. IS has been lifting features from it for ages (world maps, unbreakable weapons, summoning, monsters, Dread Fighters and Witches, etc.) and I've thought for a while that a remake would be a good way to reintroduce it, especially since they'd want to tie it into the card game and whatnot.
The story's actually pretty neat, though the original script is spare, being an NES game. I wonder if they'll be expanding it or if it's going to be a straight adaptation like Shadow Dragon was.
I'm in love with the art, too. Reminds me of Sacred Stones.
>>201593 I'm actually kind of reminded of the Tellius games, but with more diversity among the designs. Either way it's a welcome change to Kozaki's art, which is nice but a little too otakubait.
Finished the four main dungeons and about to enter hyrule castle. I think it's been a great fucking ride overall so far.
Also maybe I just don't notice it much, but I've been playing on Wii u and the slowdown and frame drops don't seem anywhere near as bad as people have made them out to be. Especially compared to other open world games.
>>201759 Canonically, he's suffering under the weight of his responsibilities just as much as Zelda is, but Zelda is being so outwardly upset about it, he doesn't want to impose on her by having problems of his own, so he deals with his emotions in the opposite direction; by bottling up his emotions and becoming perfectly stoic and silent.
Ganon kinda sucks this go around, and I'll probably never replay it since there's no particular strong main throughline, but this was a lot of fun and will probably sit at 3 for me alongside TP, just under MM with WW on top.
http://www.pressa2join.com/news/square-enix-plan-to-focus-more-on-switch-than-scorpio-says-ceo-will-develop-and-port-more-games-for-switch >Square Enix CEO Matsuda-Kun has reiterated the publisher’s desire to release more games on to Nintendo Switch in the future, opting to focus its attention on Nintendo’s latest console than Microsoft’s upcoming Project Scorpio.
>Despite Project Scorpio’s imminent arrival it remains Nintendo Switch, that Square Enix is paying the most attention according to Matsuda.
>Speaking with Japanese publication Nikkei, Square Enix’s Chief Operating Officer spoke of the companies wish to see Nintendo’s newly released hybrid console succeed, “more platforms are good for content creators. We would like to have success on Switch.” said Matsuda.
>Following the release of Dragon Quest Heroes I, II (Japan) and I Am Setsuna (Worldwide) at launch, the reveal of a new Spelunker game with Minna de Wai Wai! Spelunker arriving late April in Japan, Seiken Densetsu Collection June 1st (Japan) and Project Octopath Traveler (worldwide) confirmed for a future release, it is quickly becoming evident that the Japanese publisher intends to release as many titles as it can for Nintendo Switch, something Matsuda alluded to.
>“In addition to developing new titles, we also want to port what we can do with existing game titles more and more“.
>Lastly, Matsuda spoke of the way in which creators are currently utilising Nintendo Switch’s characteristics to create fun games. Square Enix however, has its own way of doing things but will ensure future games ported or new will leverage the functions of Switch in a good way.
>“Nintendo proposes various kinds of fun. There may be other companies offering amazing ways of playing with “Switching” characteristics of “Switch”. However, since we have our way of doing things, we will make games that we are good at leveraging the functions of Switch“.
>I Am Setsuna is available now worldwide for Nintendo Switch, Dragon Quest Heroes I and II are available in Japan only.
>>201881 Makes sense, Squenix has always been sort of Japan-centric and home consoles are a dying market there. It's natural for them to switch (ha) over to a console with more handheld appeal.
>>201904 Everyone assumed they were keeping a short supply to build an artificial hype for it when they restocked. When this whole time they were playing the long game of building artificial hype for Switch virtual console.
>>201907 Well it was also the big seller over Christmas constantly out of stock and in high demand and still is rivaling the Switch in Unit Sales (which is likely another problem). Honestly I think the best move would have been one final run instead of just ending it abruptly.
Blaster Master 0's co-op function is kind of interesting, but did they really have to make it half joy con only. I mean, I've got a pro controller right here.
Nintendo has revealed that the recently-announced Metroid Prime 4 is not developed by Retro Studios, the developer who made the first three games.
Instead, Nintendo’s Bill Trinen revealed at a group interview that the game is being built by a “talented new development team.” Despite the shift, the game will still be overseen by longtime producer Kensuke Tanabe, who produced the previous Metroid Prime games.
Beyond that, Nintendo didn’t reveal additional details about development, but did confirm that the game is still a first-person adventure and will be released “beyond 2017.”
Mercury Steam is developing the Nintendo 3DS game (Samus Returns), according to Nintendo. The studio is best known for the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games.
>>202121 >>202122 >>202123 I'm more of a fan of Bowser marrying Peach, thus uniting the Koopa and Mushroom kingdoms. Mario can become Pauline's First Man.
Eh maybe. Could have something to do with the next Bros RPG since Bowser is back on deck as a player character (I've missed him since Inside Story).
Though that would still be a riot. Ending twist revealed when a Pauline Wedding Figure is leaked/put out and we see the complete Amiibo set.
The amount of salt over it would be funny to me. Mario more or less having dating both of them at some point in the past though by all notations is pretty platonic with Peach nowadays and is on good terms with Pauline.
https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/879369032947847168 SNESClassic launches 9/29. I hope you are ready to never be able to get your hands on this. Although, Nintendo claims "to ship more SNES Classics than NES Classics, but only this year" but I have no source for that quote, so take it with the appropriate amount of salt. Games include: Contra III: The Alien Wars Donkey Kong Country EarthBound Final Fantasy III F-ZERO Kirby Super Star Kirby’s Dream Course The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Mega Man X Secret of Mana Star Fox Star Fox 2 Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting Super Castlevania IV Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts Super Mario Kart Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars Super Mario World Super Metroid Super Punch-Out!! Yoshi’s Island
>>202148 >Also hope that is "OUR" Final Fantasy III and not theirs. I literally has to be VI. The original version of III was an NES game and was never officially localized.
For some reason Namco skipped out porting Pac-Man Vs to Wii U where it would have made a lot of sense and now we have to deal with this goofy two Switch setup on a console that doesn't have any single card download play.
Nintendo has killed live streaming Nintendo games. https://r.ncp.nintendo.net/guide/ >Live streaming on YouTube falls outside the scope of the Nintendo Creators Program. You cannot broadcast content on YouTube Live from the account you have registered to the Nintendo Creators Program. If you plan to broadcast content on YouTube Live, you have a couple of options. First, you can broadcast content on YouTube Live from a channel that is not registered to the Nintendo Creators Program. Or, you can cancel your channel's registration to the Nintendo Creators Program and instead, register your videos containing Nintendo’s IP to the program separately. Videos which had previously been registered through your channel would need to be reregistered individually.
I'm thinking an Advance Wars style game set in the Splatoon universe could be pretty fun. Named NPCs as COs and different player loadouts for unit types seems like a good fit, as do the terrain capture and hiding-in-ink mechanics.
>>201757 Interesting. I've actually been thinking it'd be neat to make a Zelda-like game that uses a modern setting to try and force myself away from using designs that are too similar, and here Nintendo could probably beat me to it if they wanted to. I mean, Hyper Light Drifter and Transistor already did in some ways, but they're more distant future than near future/modern day.
>>201764 I'm really liking it. Bought it for the WiiU, kind of annoying that I don't have a way to get the pictures I take onto my comptuer now that Miiverse is gone other than taking a picture of my television. Might be able to hook up a capture card, though. Forgot to get the DLC before I started, not sure if I want to start over to try the master quest given that aside form autosaves you only get one save slot per user profile.
Also, I'm late on the whole Hyrules Warrior thing, but I think this is a fair depiction of how I feel about playing as Wizzro: http://crossfade.io/#!/dz9mqex6zq
I'm thinking Twili Midna could work well as an echo fighter of Bayonetta: They're both snarky women with dark powers that include magic hair and the ability to summon large hands, and they've got reasonably similar builds.
Wow, hearing about EVERY character coming back for ultimate is pretty hype. The fact all the previous DLC and 3rd party characters can be in the game was a surprise.
Not quite enough to make me buy a switch for it but certainly caused me a moments consideration.
It would be interesting if there was some alternate gamemode to take advantage of all these characters, like some sort of kiddy quasi-strategy mode from an rpg or something... group them into units and move them about a map or series of maps/scenarios, battles between units are carried out like usual in gameplay but modified by various effects and each character in the unit functions like a Stock.
Am I alone in having actually really loved the story mode from Brawl?
>>417450 Evil Ryu is incredibly lame (as is Shadow the Hedgehog), the fact every adaptation and game just retreads the Satsui no Hado plotline bullshit for Ryu is boring as hell and I'm glad to hear he's finally moved beyond it with a new fighting nirvana gimmick
Colors weave into a spire of flame Distant sparks call to a past still unnamed Bear this torch against the cold of the night Search your soul and reawaken the undying light!
>>417624 I'm kind of annoyed by the changes Nintendo is making to Three Houses after release like switching voice actors because of scandals or toning down the dialogue of characters describing the parental abuse they suffered.
I'm happy with a character from ARMS being one of this last batch of Smash Ultimate characters.
Some people seem to be shitting their pants in rage over it but the Smash fanbase is full of whinging twats who will bitch endlessly at the drop of a hat so that's normal.
Is it really possible for them to make another Smash game after Ultimate? I mean its the ULTIMATE in every way, wouldn't any sequel be cutdown by comparison?
What are picks people are holding out for in the final three Smash characters to be released?
I'd like Doomguy to be in, because his bff Isabelle is a fighter and they could team up. Wonder Red is one I've wanted from the start, with the other Wonderful Ones backing him up in various ways. Dante would be cool I guess, has alot of potential for movelist and fits alongside the likes of Bayonetta. Would also be another dig at the playstation knockoff smash-clone in that Nintendo's game has both the actual Solid Snake and the actual Dante compared to their Raiden and Donte.
It would be funny though if the very last fighter added to the game was Waluigi
>>419433 Mario having fursuit powerups isn't anything new. The cat suit specifically is something from previous games, it just isn't as old as the raccoon suit.
Huh, I just realised that the various physics effects used in Breath of the Wild's engine align pretty well with the various effects used in Pikmin (electricity, fire, rain, flowing rivers, bombs, throwing, and gliding), so if a new Pikmin game was being made it might be convenient to use the BotW engine for it.
I was initially thinking that entirely from the perspective of just saving time and effort in development, but I guess if they have Olimar somehow transported to go on an adventure with the Minish people, I wouldn't object!
I'm hyped for this "Triangle Strategy" after playing the demo, only thing was really excited about after watching the direct. Too bad its a 2022 release.
Didn't see that coming, though admittedly its a fair enough choice considering how many representative characters from classic traditional fighting games have been in Smash Ultimate.
>>420423 The third game being about Travis being the hero fighting off an alien invasion conquering Earth seems a bit ridiculous. Like an example of over the top franchise creep. In both previous games he was just a contest assassin fighting other wacky assassins.
>>201757 They'll have to end up doing it at some point, its not like they don't have games that are super heavy on the magitech and just need to go a step further in making technology inherent to the society of the current setting a game takes place in. I mean in Breath of the Wild they have literal Tablets like all the Kids use but dressed up in a magical technology coating.
>>202085 I wonder what this anon felt when Dread came out.
>>420961 >>420962 Man, this reminds me of how Dobson would frequently sperg out over characters like Peach and Link being blonde-haired simply because they weren't in the western cartoons.
Dude seems to have finally vanished from the internet, makes me oddly nostalgic thinking back on his antics.
>>421024 The Japanese Collectors Edition for live-a-live comes with a little board game amongst the other feelies? That's a new one, not seen that before. Wonder what the rules of it are. https://www.siliconera.com/live-a-live-collectors-edition-includes-a-full-board-game/
Do you consider it better to own physical copies of Switch games or just download them? If you have the physical copies of course you own them which gives a feeling of security, but if you download them that is less hassle in terms of ordering them and waiting for the thing to arrive- you just download it there and then onto your console. Suppose downloading means you have to make sure you have the memory for it to be downloaded in the first place, where if you have it on a disc you don't need as much space.
>>421080 I do like having them downloaded because sometimes having to physically change the cart will be enough of a barrier to entry to stop me from playing a quick round of a game. That said, I'm now desperately low on storage space.
>>421275 >Great Giana Sisters Huh... took me a good while to even remember what that is.
It sort of reminds me of games that presumptively dubbed themselves "Halo Killers" before quickly fading into obscurity, but long long before such things came into existence.
>>421392 >>421393 Bowser really need to go to therapy for his compulsions, its causing strain on both the personal and professional relationships he has with his peers and associates.
>>421080 Oh, I question tangentially related to what Inwasngoing to rant about anyway.
I don't feel at that much risk of losing already purchased games on Nintendo consoles, they seem to be pretty good at supporting re-downloads after the shop closes and haven't been having games pulled off of consoles that already downloaded them like Amazon did with some ebooks.
However, I'm used to mostly getting games as gifts, and usually like getting physical copies instead of a bunch if download codes and gift cards. Even when I did ask for points in the eshop, I just don't get around to shopping very often. With the Wii and now the WiiU and 3DS I waited until the last minute to spend most of my eshop money, even though I already had something in mind. Which isn't to say the shop is poorly designed, it's just not something I think to do for some reason.
I'm somewhat concerned about the eshop being closed, but mostly it's an issue with indie games that didn't get a physical release at all.
Incidentally, I still don't like that SmileBASIC for the WiiU was never released in the states just because of bad timing with an exploit being found in the 3DS version. It didn't take that long for the problem with the 3DS version to get fixed either, and finishing the localization shouldn't have been too big a deal.
I would think it would even be good fir the Switch version, because people who make things on the WiiU version might then want to port it to the next iteration of the language after that, either to out new features in the game or to send their BASIC programs ti friends and family who only got the Switch.
Personally, the reason I don't have a Switch is that I didn't get a Xbox 360 or PS4 either for making online play subscription-based, so I wanted to be consistent about that. And if online play on the Switch isn't really any better than it was on the WiiU despite subscription payments supporting it, and there's no reason to think it won't be dropped despite continued revenue like the eshop, why bother turning back on that decision?
It's annoying because I'd like to try out Nintendo Labo, and my online friends have been more interested in getting me in on online games with them recently, but I don't feel like I would be happy with being unprincipled about this.
Oh, well this extra sucks, I specifically wanted to get Tengami, but it's apparently been pulled from the store. Not the trailers for it though? Weird. I guess I'll have to get it on a different platform later, but it's notnlike I was planning on getting a Steam deck and playing it on an iPhone sounds less than ideal.
Just remembered, the other thing that bothers me is that the sequel to Breath of the Wild was originally planned for both consoles before it was delayed. If a pandemic delays development, I say it should also delay discontinuations.
You know what I would wish to see for Mario at some point, a strategy/nation game.
So you'd have places from the SMB world as the map then you would have factions like the Mushroom Kingdom and Bowser's Kingdom who would be the primary two facing off. Expanded from that you'd have others like Kong Island, K.Rule's Pirates... maybe even Sarasaland etc etc.
Some primary objectives would be obvious, like Bowser trying to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom and them fighting him off, but you could also have diplomacy with the other factions and get their troops or heroes to fight on your side as mercenaries or allies.
Is it really so much out there than Mrio getting a crossover Xcom-esque game with the Rabbids?
What I'm wondering is if this one will also be released on the Switch? Since it came to the likes of PC eventually, possibility of them just going straight back to the stronger platforms?
>>424640 I hate when things get pulled from digital marketplaces. It often makes so much less sense than when it happens in meatspace where physical inventory is a concern.
Super Mario RPG - Nintendo Direct 6.21.2023 Remake of Super Mario RPG incoming! Will it just be the same game with modern graphics on modern machines or will there be any added content?
>>425125 Most of the courses they use for the DLC are asset flips that come from Mario Kart Tour, that's why the artstyle isn't as detailed or as vibrant as the courses in the main game.
Wouldn't actually be able to play this new wario game, rooms cramped and my tv/consoles are crammed into the corner with very little floorspace infront of it.
>>424659 I actually hate when remakes of old school rpgs add voice acting, just hate it so much.
Often rpgs/crpgs in general would be better off without voice acting, instead taking the time and resources would be used to add it to the game to improve other areas instead.
>>421080 >Do you consider it better to own physical copies of Switch games or just download them? I find use for them both honestly. I think for the most part it's kind of neat to have the physical copies since you could just pop in a friend's game and play.
