>>197158 He talked about fans who want western releases as if they were idiot children. Why wouldn't Nintendo fire him, even if they are bad about actually releasing games here?
>>197159 >He talked about fans who want western releases as if they were idiot children. Thats tumblr-level generalization there. Might as well complain about AVGN portraying nintendo fans as alcoholic scatophiles.
Difference here is that AVGN isn't a considered to be representing nintendo, which Chris was with his employment and answering questions on a podcast regarding nintendo policy.
It's not hard to be professional and courteous, so I don't have a terrible amount of sympathy for people who fail at it even if they do have a wife and kids.
Whether Chris was right or not in tone, his answers were not of the typical Nintendo PR lingo. He said things Nintendo normally doesn't comment on and did so as if he were a major representative of the company. It's a shame he lost his dream job over a single mistake, but it's not hard to see why Nintendo let him go.
>>197162 >Difference here is that AVGN isn't a considered to be representing nintendo, See but thats a rational point. Not "calling fans idiot children."

Xenoblade special edition finally announced for the US. We get a neat artbook, and a USB stick, but that stick only has 10 of the tunes on it. I'm hoping they release the full soundtrack separately, cause that's annoying.
Nintendo is finally doing stuff for mobile devices. But why start with simple Mario games or something like that when it can go straight for a (potential) killer app?
>>197438 From what I've heard, he's only been elected for one year to handle the upcoming holiday season while the big N continues looking for someone younger to fill the role.

Each character will be recruitable after completing three missions, and will provide either a weapon or Skell blueprint. Good, that makes up for the wait.
Also, if anyone has been trying to pre-order, Gamestop finally listed the item on their website last week and I was able to switch my pre-order over then.
I forgot that the Skylander Amiibo hybrids would be only sold with the starter packs that come with the games. I mean it makes sense since they don't want to trick anyone into buying them when they don't have the versions they work on, but what if I just want the amiibo? I can't imagine skylanders being very fun if you only have one skylander.
It's not. Skylanders, the little I've played, seems like a really fun party game/game with friends, but there's areas of the game that can't be accessed without a Skylander that uses a certain element. You can beat the story just fine, I'm sure, but a lot of extra rooms and additional places to go are inaccessible if you only have one guy.
They threw in some extra stuff in addition to releasing the Mario Maker stage, including the Pirate Ship from Brawl (yay!) and another wave of Mii outfits (yay?)
When you come to the realization that your Darkrai must still be in Pokemon Platinum and that's the only copy you can't find. And I'm only 12 away from having all of them, too!

That quality attention to detail, the style... the combos. Absolute perfection. And then watching the stream cry bitch tears it wasn't Wolf or K.Rool was the icing on the cake, then came the "She's broken!" whiners as if almost every character in the game doesn't have a counter to prevent Bayonetta from going off.
I'm actually going to have to buy some Nintendo DLC. Hot damn.
>>198679 Two songs ain't fine. There's no reason not to have more than that, fuck at least port some more songs over. Not all of them have to be remixes.
I'm a little disappointed there's only one poll winner and not like two or three. Also I'm surprised how quickly it took for them to make Bayonetta. Isn't it like a month before it closed or something?
Bayonetta was the global #1 pick for "feasible characters"; it's possible Cloud was somewhere in the top ten on that same list. Also, the final DLC slot went to another Fire Emblem character because someone on the Smash team has a hard-on for Fire Emblem (God I hope the next Smash cuts down on the FE character count by five or six). Also also, they couldn't keep the team together for endless DLC development (remember: all the DLC was done from scratch after development of the full game) because that just doesn't make sense. We're lucky to have gotten the DLC we did because Nintendo didn't have to go that far and support the game for this long.
>>198731 Absolutely true. The idea that they're already making it is dumb though, they don't pump out sequels to it, they let the game sell strong for years between.
>>198744 With Nintendo's production cycle, I wouldn't be surprised if they were already working on it though. It takes them like 5 years to make a game, and it's been a year or so since they've been in full production mode on Sm4sh. They may not be going into full production any time soon, but they're probably kicking around ideas for new mechanics/stages/fighters and doing tech tests on the hardware.
>>198768 I take a crack at it once a day if I get a freebie and whatever I can get from the practice rounds. Did spend a little to complete some of the icon change sets though. Because they look better than stock.
>>198772 Nintendo Badge Arcade for 3DS, a free-to-play virtual UFO catcher for "badges" that you could use to decorate your Home menu. You can spend $1 to get five plays/tries, but you can also do the "practice catcher" once a day that could possibly get you free tries. The game will also occasionally give you a free try, usually coupled with what is essentially a sales pitch for another Nintendo title. It's surprisingly fun with the decoration part also being surprising entertaining.
>>198774 diffrent kinds of catchers. Standard Claw, A Hammer, a Wrecking Ball-Bomb (bomb jostles around some of the badges) Also the badges are physics objects in play when they drop so sometimes you'll get Badges that fall when the crane loads in. Also if you can figure out which to pull or push and can't get them then you can make others fall when you grab one. Pink Rabbit has been getting some hate from some sections.
>>198774 So was the sports game in my opinion, and even the extra games for Mii Plaza, but I like how they're willing to be upfront about ithe system to the point of even having them all be associated with cartonishly greasy shopkeeper mascots.
>>198773 I get exchange rated. I'd be all for trying to get the game boy color one for my game boy color virtual console games but it's the special edition yellow instead of the iconic purple.
So Cloud is out in smash. What do you guys think about him?
I think he's fun, might end up being my main even though I'm not a huge fan of FF7. At first I thought his full meter down special was OP but it's actually pretty hard to hit with. Feels fucking great when it does though.
>>198819 Picked him, Ryu, and Hyrule64 up a few days ago. Cloud is great and I want to like Ryu, but somethings just a punch off. I keep trying to play him like a street fighter character and the normal and tilt moves just don't connect well.
Also remembering why I quit playing. Unlocking special moves on (at least on 3DS) is a fucking nightmare and they still haven't changed it to at least stop dropping moves and costume parts you already have. Just introduce a shop already, we all have millions of worthless coins sitting around anyway. Fuck even make it paid DLC to unlock all the moves, anything is better than what you have right now and that's not even mentioning the fact you fucks won't give Lucas, Mewtwo or firemarth customs despite mewtwos code having quite a few almost finished and in place.
Speaking of Fire Emblem, after realizing it was the only Nintendo franchise I had never ever played, I decided to give it a go. Starting with Fire Emblem 7 on GBA. And holy fucking shit I hate this game already. This is beyond difficult. This game is hard to the point where I'm actually shocked that this has mass-market appeal. The first 10 missions weren't that bad, but I can't get past chapter 12, and I've tried like twenty fucking times.
I'm not big on strategy games to begin with, but having my units be permanently killed off infuriates me, especially as a completionist. It's not like these are random soldiers, they're fleshed out characters in an RPG. So if they die, I lose a chunk of story. That pisses me off, and allowing that to happen is unacceptable to me. So any time something goes wrong, in a mission that usually takes me at least 20 minutes to do, I have to restart the game and reload my save every time someone dies.
So then I tried using an emulator and using savestates. Nope, that's not working either. I can't level people up and have them survive at the same time. Then I tried, one last ditch effort, a code that gave everyone an instant levelup after any battle. Even then, I fucked up and someone died, TWICE. And it took twice as long thanks to the leveling animations. I can't even follow a Youtube walkthrough because of all the random variables in the AI. And I would put up with all of this if it had a story I cared about, but so far it's incredibly bland and cliche.
Someone please, PLEASE sell me on this series, because so far I just don't fucking get it.
>>198847 That's another thing that annoys me, the smug dickishness the FE community has over their superior skill at the game and thinking anyone who says it's too hard is a "filthy casual", giving them lectures about how the game "doesn't hold your hand" and that you should "git gud" or "deal with it."
>>198848 Seriously, the fact that your characters perma-die is part of the series' appeal. It's supposed to be challenging like that and an incentive to play well enough that your characters don't die in the first place.
>>198846 Fire Emblem is a difficult series. Not to sound like a dick but 'git gud' really is all there is to it.
Honestly you should probably not start with 7. I did, and I enjoyed it, but the newer games have difficulty settings which allow for both brutally hard and pretty casual play. Awakening even has an option where you can turn off the perma-death. Awakening might actually be the best place to start, it was the first FE that wasn't a completely niche title (FE has never had mass appeal) and I think that's in large part because it was the most accessible. If you have a boner for playing things in order then maybe pick up Shadow Dragon, since it's a remake of the very first game.
As for the story, well, out of the FEs I've played (which to be fair is only like 4 of them) all of them had pretty cliche by-the-numbers storylines. Plot has never really been a strong point in FE games. The best part of the writing is actually in the character dialogues when you get them to level up their relationship with each other, though I don't know if you've even gotten to learning about that mechanic yet. That's another perk about Awakening, actually. It's waaaaay easier for units to level their relationship enough to trigger dialogue, and while each character can only reach MAXIMUM RELATIONSHIP status with one other unit, they can have as many conversations with other characters as you want them to. I think in every previous game a character is limited to like, three conversations total the whole game, and if you want to see the rest you'd just have to look them up on the internet or play the game however many times it takes to see them.
Honestly I'm not a big fan of FE so I get where you're coming from. I've tried to get into the series a few times but always stopped playing about halfway through. Not out of difficulty, really, but just because by that point I get kind of bored with it. It definitely isn't for everyone, and it's fine to not like it. If you want to give it another go I'd say to pick up a more recent title, unless you're deadset on finishing the game you've started.
>>198850 >That's another perk about Awakening, actually. It's waaaaay easier for units to level their relationship enough to trigger dialogue, and while each character can only reach MAXIMUM RELATIONSHIP status with one other unit, they can have as many conversations with other characters as you want them to. At the cost of those supports being way less interesting than previous games.
>>198872 Yea I want a Nintendo not Family Computer controller. Can get Bout two each day using the practice machine. If I get a free play then I can usually get the harder ones. Got the Wario one today.
>>198869 I'm thinking a Pokeball-like item that calls in a random CO move would be nice, since it'd let them show off a wider range of COs without having to make each one a whole fighter. That and maybe an arena that cycles between backgrounds for each terrain type while crossfire from different sides barrages the stage.
On an unrelated note, I've been having a lot of fun with SmileBASIC. It's nice to have a well documented system with an often-helpful debugger and no need to worry about linking libraries prioperly just to run some graphics. Right now I'm making a simple top-down game but I'm thinking I'd like to try making an audio modem that could link with a matching program that would run on my desktop just because.
I like the Link Between Worlds software badges. I'll try to collect them. Which might be tough since half of them sit inside a bouncy house making it really hard to use skill to get them.
Huh, is badge arcade just programmed to make sure you get at least one play a day? I haven't gotten the count to 10 bonus in a while, but so far I've gotten the random bonus every day.
>>199025 The count doesn't reset each day. So if you got two yesterday, and then nine today, you get a free play (by way of forced bonus badge, it seems) and start tomorrow with one. It took me a bit to figure this out.
As for a regular bonus badge, that does seem to happen relatively frequently.
>>199035 One can argue the intent makes the difference between censorship and just a general editorial decision (i.e. change for fear of controversy outside the gane vs change because it was a shitty idea).
>>199037 Basically, like how Kefka's swearing in the original Japanese version of FF6 was toned down because of different cultural standards on swearing in videogames at the time, but led to stuff that was more memorable like "Son of a submariner". One could argue that it's censorship, but it's silly to do so.
>>199034 >Indeed. I'm sure some pissant is already crying about censorship, but I says that if it makes the game better, it ain't censorship. > >>199035 >Well no, it is. For the better, granted, but it is. > >>199037 >One can argue the intent makes the difference between censorship and just a general editorial decision (i.e. change for fear of controversy outside the gane vs change because it was a shitty idea). >
If it wasn't mandated by the government, it's not censorship.
Its just proper. Yea there are those bizzaro guys that will scream about this because "agggh they changed her in a bad way." Maybe could have added some dialog to note she has prefrences for both but then that is additional aggro like certain ladies in cartoons recived.
Gaming responses to sexuality are strange sometimes it gets support and other times not and gets slammed. Hence some decide to strip it from the game, but that leads to its own controversies like with new Tomb Raider went from author intent and first game setup to that character being removed and it all being "Daddy Issues" that make Lara who she is as the Single Female Badass Tomb Raider obsessed with her family legacy.
>>199041 Yeah, and it wasn't censorship, either. It was standards and practices, and it was image control. People try to frame that stuff as censorship because then they can treat it as a political issue and they can yell at the "politically correct" for taking away their ability to look at (INSERT TITILLATING THING HERE), but in reality it's just a business making a decision about what's going to make them the most money, and their ability to make those changes is part of *THEIR* right to free speech. Saying they shouldn't be allowed to decide what message they're sending based on the context of the market they're releasing in because somehow it "goes against free speech" is hypocritical.
>>199043 Mostly JRPGs and Castlevania. I remember Final Fantasy specifically had Holy changed to White and such. Pretty sure it was to avoid offending prissy Christian types, who are on the opposite side of the political spectrum from what >>199042 thinks I mean.
>>199127 After learning about the franchise and what Nintendo did with it, I would rather stick to fan translations (when actually getting to play it).
Do you mean all the localization changes from Mother 2 to Earthbound? Because those were pretty much all a net positive. 90% of what it did was change jokes that depended on Japanese cultural references almost nobody in America had heard of to jokes that would actually make sense to western audiences. The Mother 3 fantranslation did a lot of the same kind of stuff, although not to the same extent.
And if you mean how they basically abandoned the series in the west after Earthbound didn't sell very well...well, better late than never.
The Mother 3 fantranslation is fantastic work - done by a fan who also happened to be a professional translator, and made possible through tremendous feats of software reverse-engineering - but I don't think I know any Mother series fans who wouldn't be excited about an official release.
But removing red cross images, changing people's costumes, changing bars to cafes, and removing cigarettes? Censorship I do not support. Only joke changes.
And all the other edits were made so the game could keep its quirky appeal and Nintendo wouldn't look like it was trying to tell kids drinking and smoking were cool things to do or whatever.
"A thing to note about this device is that much of it’s production was started in 2014 and many of the stuff I list here was outlined by the late Satoru Iwata before his passing. Hence in the company, the NX is considered the last project of their late president. Employees since his passing utter a phrase at the end of meetings and during idea brainstorms which is “岩田のために!” which roughly translates “For Iwata!”
The importance of this is that this “new” Nintendo is highly motivated in delivering a fantastic system and games, something that I quote from an employee “have not seen this much forward momentum on a project since they launched the original "
Not sure whether this belongs here or in the Persona/SMT general thread, but I'm genuinely surprised they're still going through with localizing #FE. It already tanked in Japan and the whole nature of the game means it's even less appealing to the West unless they're willing to pull a DOAX3 stunt to drum up sales from suckers.
I can't seem to get as riled up about federation force as everyone else does. Are we really just mad because it has Metroid in the name and isn't about Samus? It looks fun like Tri-Force heroes, I love co-op games
I think it looks fine. Not all of us need our FPS's to be Doom twitch-fests, particularly when it's Metroid and the whole thing is more based on environment and exploration. Tiki is just overreacting as usual.
>>199398 >>199400 It is as fast as prime but that's a problem since prime wasn't a mission based co-op shooter and was geared for exploration while this game has no exploration and is based around enemy gauntlets which are most fun when fast paced. Also it has prime's hold r for free moment camera which is again not good in a co-op shooter.
I'm kind of amazed by the reaction to the new Paper Mario.
NOBODY is defending it. Usually in this scenario there's a few people defending a game that's being hated on but for this I've seen nothing but universal hate.
>>199434 They are selling a second season pass across four new packs. The first one has already been confirmed to be the Wind Waker pack with Medli included. They'll most likely do a Skyward Sword pack, but maybe they'll go into the portable games for the other two.
>>199453 Four new packs? I wonder how much there is to even add at this point. I mean I want Makar and Vaati, Groose will probably end up in the game. Who else can you even add after that? Oracle games characters? Link's uncle?
This had all better be available for the Wii U version. I'm not expecting it to be though.
I do feel bad for Gamexplain though, they are the only ones covering Federation Force and those videos are getting buried in dislikes even though they are giving excellent analysis of the game. And God bless them for playing it because it sounds like the game equivalent of pulling off your finger nails with a spoon.
Mediocre enough that I have no intention of ever playing it, but still, I can kind of see the appeal of what they seemed to be aiming for with the game.
And yeah, I've always liked Gamexplain. They actually seem pretty honest instead of just gushing over every game, and their analysis videos for trailers are usually pretty good. It just feels weird to like them because pretty much everything else on the internet that's even remotely like them is all stuff I hate.
>>199481 I like gamexplain! They have fun little discussions, Derrick does these pleasant live streamsand the people working on it seem genuinely nice. I've been listening to their new podcast, too.
I figured I'd give this preloading thing a try. Interestingly, it generated my codes for the theme and the Wii U content, but those won't work until the 25th, either. You'd think they could at least put the theme out early...
>>199517 I don't expect this to go mainstream like Nintendo wants it to, but I'm sure plenty of Nintendo fans will download it and make the weirdest and most inappropriate things they possibly can with it.
Ah, microtransactions for in-game currency. It's just going to be a matter of time before Nintendo decides to also go with a "membership subscription" "service" like Sony and Microsoft, isn't it?
I didn't ask for this future, dammit. I only bought games that were free of that kind of shit. I blame all of you! I'll be in my angry dome!
>>199523 I pay 60 bucks a year for PSN and get around 36ish games on average for that. Even if only 6 of them are worth playing (and it's always been more than that) that's a totally economically viable transaction.
http://www.zelda.com/hyrule-warriors/dlc/ Let the hyrule Warriors hype train start up again, geez! That's 5 characters, 2 weapons and legends content confirmed purchasable without having to get legends.
>>199525 >Isn't "belonging to a paid club to get stuff" count as free, legally? Asking you for real, you might know more about that. What it counts as legally isn't what determines whether or not it's good for me as a customer. If I think getting complimentary games with my subscription to an online service doesn't make the subscription based system worth it, then I obviously won't like the one out of three major console developers not using that system deciding to deploy it.
>>199530 Marin will probably be the next character.
I'm really glad the WW stuff is available for download for people who don't have Legends.
>>199531 I'm as wary as the next person about DLC and membership type stuff, but I'm not opposed to the idea. I don't buy enough Nintendo games to make signing up for one worth it to me but I don't care if other people want to sign up for that kind of service. The implementation is what matters, and that's what I'm wary of. I wouldn't be surprised if there ends up being exclusive content across a bunch of games that is only available for members, or something. Some of the amiibo stuff has been kinda awful, like needing wolf link to play Hero Mode with 4x damage in the new TP. But being able to buy Legends content without buying Legends is a good sign imo, so I don't really know what to expect from Nintendo now.
>>199526 "Economically viable" isn't "free." Amazon Prime still costs me money even if I have more items shipped to me than I could for the money it cost to get Amazon Prime.
>>199546 Colloquially, "included" is often equated with "free."
I can't speak to Gold because I have never owned any kind of Xbox, but PS+ and Prime both have incentives well worth the cost of those subscriptions. To act as if PS+ is some kind of scam brought on by that gosh darn modern industry is silly.
Given how PSPlus worked better when it was free, it's kinda a scam. It's just a scam some people are happy to pay because they love sony so much they're willing to send them a couple of bucks a month for online play. I can't blame Sony for implementing it, Gold memberships were easy money for Microsoft. The fact that there has been no noticeable improvement in online services for the paid service versus the free services provided by PS3, Nintendo, or PC kinda illustrates just how little you're getting for your money, though.
>>199550 >Given how PSPlus worked better when it was free, it's kinda a scam. The fact that there has been no noticeable improvement in online services for the paid service versus the free services provided by PS3, Nintendo, or PC kinda illustrates just how little you're getting for your money, though. I don't think you actually remember anything about how these services went online or indeed how they operate now
PS3 had free internet access for all programs. 360 gated all programs behind a paywall. PS+ was introduced as a subscription service that had all the free games and discount material. 360 much, MUCH later introduced free games to Gold. PS4 added multiplayer behind PS+ but if you don't pay for PS+ (although again, why wouldn't you with the games), you can still use Netflix, YT, and whatever. The XboxOne has the same model.
>>199532 >I'm as wary as the next person about DLC and membership type stuff, but I'm not opposed to the idea. I don't buy enough Nintendo games to make signing up for one worth it to me but I don't care if other people want to sign up for that kind of service. I should probably mention that I ( >>199531 ) was someone else just responding to the part about not wanting the model fo paying for multiplayer. The phone stuff doesn't really matter much to me because I'm unlikely to use it anyway, and I don't expect this to creep into their actual console games particularly soon.
>>199551 Also not >>199550, but: >PS4 added multiplayer behind PS+ but if you don't pay for PS+ (although again, why wouldn't you with the games) Because I don't consider getting a discount on more games or even free games to be worth paying a subscription to access multiplayer. >>199582 >Because I don't consider getting a discount on more games or even free games to be worth paying a subscription to access multiplayer. I don't consider it a scam though, just a deal that I'm not interested in. You should be paying anyway for the games. I was a PS+ member for ages before the PS4 launched so I have this gigantic library of PS+ games and that just rolled onward with nothing having changed.
>>199595 People are still wondering if that is a legit model close to final product or just a Mock Up based on the earlier patent design. Whole thing being a display is intresting.
>>199597 >>199599 I actually like the idea of haptic screen buttons. It sounds like a neat idea that I hope makes it into a real controller for some company's hardware.
Fake account or not, Nintendo has an actual history of dealing poorly with the Internet. From any angle. That said fake account could be seen as an even remotely legit response from Nintendo says a lot.
just picked up a wiiU. any must have indie titles in the shop? it looks pretty barren. also a bit disappointed with the amiibo support on a lot of games in that they don't seem to do much.
>>199700 While it's also available in other platforms, and has a bonus boss fight on Xbox One, Shovel Knight is definitely worth a buy if you haven't already played it.
>>199708 Not him, but how good is Fast Racing Neo at being knock-off F-Zero? Because I'm totally fine with it being a blatant F-Zero clone as long as it's a good one.
>>199714 Long list of Nintendo putting feature gimmicks first and not really having anything to put into that said feature. Like three games actually do anything and even then not much.
