Interesting thing though, Snorkmaiden from the series received more votes than anyone else in it. The only difference in her nomination being that she got in from "Moomin" instead of "The Moomins", putting her on an earlier page too.

The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies, the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc. The term cold war is used because there was no large-scale fighting directly between the two superpowers, but they each supported opposing sides in major regional conflicts known as proxy wars. The conflict was based on the ideological and geopolitical struggle for global influence by these two superpowers, following their roles as the Allies of World War II that led to victory against Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan in 1945.[2] Aside from the nuclear arms race and conventional military deployment, the struggle for dominance was expressed via indirect means, such as psychological warfare, propaganda campaigns, espionage, far-reaching embargoes, sports diplomacy, and technological competitions like the Space Race.

Honestly, I'm starting to understand NSA's mindset a bit more I think. Though he's demonstrated that he's a bit of a cunt in the past, the idea that he should assume a more dominant role in taking charge over the tournaments is sort of tempered by the rigging problem in the first place. The ideal is that the popularity contest is swung by the board and ran by the board, but that's only wishful thinking at this rate. This isn't /co/'s tourney in a spiritual sense, but moreso whoever was swinging with the most accounts. The game was rigged from the start.

Kinda makes Fang's run a bit inspiring, though I would be equally likely to believe that there may have been counter-rigging involved to her benefit that offset whatever was put against her.

Tbh I'm willing to believe some anons skipped Amity because they like Luz more or think Amity had it in the bag based on previous years but I also do think Amity got caught up in some of the rigging. Which would make sense, to say she would be a controversial winner would be an understatement.

I know there’s a few other great hosts here too but it is to be understood that it is kind of stressful being the host and being bombarded by a ton of upset people over this, that, and the other thing and if I were there I too would probably feel uncomfortable. >Lying about his ability to detect rigging
>Implementing gmail logging that turns off the majority of potential voters from even participating
>Getting indignant when people with an IQ above freezing tell him the email thing is a stupid idea
If it's just supposed to be a bullshit fun bit of posting about your waifus, it should be treated like that, and "rigging" shouldn't even matter. If it's supposed to be a "serious" affair, NSA is evidently not competent to run it. Straddling this middle ground is doomed to make people pissy about it.

>happens every year

Yes and no; while older tournaments all have their fair share of shit-fling with the anons, it was really 2021 that made things even more chaotic than ever before.

You see ever since Betty Boop won, many Johannafags throw a fit over it and even going as far as saying that her victory got stolen by a "literal who" which is bullshit, considering that she's fondly recognized by nostalgic-minded people (those who remembers watching her cartoons) and retro cartoon fans (since they love classical toon aesthetic). It doesn't matter though as they refuse to accept the victory and won't shut up about how Johanna should've won the tournament instead of "literal who".

2022 further fueled up the flames after Fang wins and Shirleyfags started accusing the whole tournament to be "rigged" due having a character from a great show and have some of the best campaigns around earning a well-deserved victory.

Let face it anon, they don't care about having fun now anymore; they just want to the characters THEY want instead of more unique ones with good campaign. Already, this tournament is becoming a serious warzone of trying the put the waifu that will make their dicks hard instead of a good character that is liked for what they do or actually are. Even though the new OCs are fun and all, you still can't deny this shit.

Arguing with one of the asteriskfags gave me insight over what they think determines an asterisk. It went like this:
>What determines who gets an asterisk? Who’s authority?
>the people
>how do we determine that? Want to poll it? What’s the threshold asterisks must achieve?
>no, just the vibes
>so in a polling competition where this could be easily be implemented, you don’t want to poll it, just go by vibes?
>it prevents mob rule
>so it isn’t the people then, it’s whatever you personally say and agree with?
>just because it’s a potential minority doesn’t mean they’re wrong

At that point I gave up, it was clear it was just a “I am right no matter what” thing and the goalposts would keep moving from there.

I just find it weird that it's ok for Mr. /co/ to get less than 500 votes in its finale but Ms. /co/ having around that many is considered a failure. Nobody calls Mr. /co/ a failure. Loonafag's point is misguided and the other anon is correct. There is nothing wrong for voting for the straight up "best" character, that's closer to what the tourney's were originally about if there was any solid criteria and meaning. It is rather fascinating how people can hold on to grudges for almost half a decade over a silly popularity contest. I just do it for the fun of it but it’s incredible that they’ll go to these levels of desperation and attention just because of a winner 4 years ago. It’s another reason why mr /co/ is always the better tourney, they never get out of control(at worst there was RP mania back in 2020 but even then that was fun as hell and nothing malicious despite it taking away attention from the main tournament). She's from what was originally an episodic cartoon revolving around a bunch of evil demons doing hitjobs on humans, do you expect her to have a fully fleshed out personality? Also, this is a popularity contest about which funny and/or sexy cartoon character people like the most, caring too much about which cute girl has the best personality is silly no matter how much you like or dislike her, people are gonna vote for who they like the most for their own varying reasons, and that "who" isn't gonna be liked by everyone.

the reason people are giving Fang shit is because the people defending her are smug pricks, but really the vitriol is towards NSA.
and this also tracks with the people defending him this year. assuming no other shitshow occurs, Ms. /co/ 2023 will at least go through the proper motions. that already makes it better than last year. it's reasonable to * 2022 but not 2023. should we? i don't know, but there's an argument for it.

You could probably get like 300 votes at most. And then it'll dwindle each year until it's basically another /tnt/ exclusive like heroes/villains.
And of course campaign would be a much bigger factor too. A character with no open supporters and OC is never gonna coast.

The campaigning has been some of the best parts of this tourney, more of it can’t be bad so long as it doesn’t get overbearing, shame this is all just a what if though.

For the record, I’m rooting for Frankie and Raven.

They have always been the two strongest members of FARTS very consistently, have never really had a bad year, and ONE of them was the legitimate winner in 2019 had Spinel not pulled a Peru(though which of the two would have won is unclear).

Toph’s comeback story is great, but she’s been functionally out of the game since 2019 and it just doesn’t feel right to win now. Maybe a bit later, she’s got potential.

Eris has great OC, but I just don’t want her gone yet. She’s still got material. Frankie and Raven are getting kind of spent, especially Frankie, and I want one of them to claim the victory that was stolen in 2019 before fatigue throws them into the mid-rank purgatory that Pacifica and the Spies are in

I don't know why you wouldn't want to see her gone yet. If she has a good campaign, you should want to celebrate her anons by letting her win. It might be sad to see her go, but we got two years out of it and we don't want the character to lose all material she has until she can never win years from now. End things while they're still good.

Depends how you do it, I think. If we go by this pic >>61796 , then it would end at the same time. It would change how the Elite 8 is decided, but it means that characters stay longer and thus could be campaigned more.
The main tournaments are already quite hectic, so I don't think one of these would be good for it. However, for a smaller side tourney, it sounds interesting to try.

>people pissed off at nightshift who have done the same and will probably have more to talk about after the tourney
>people who don't like how the IP/vote count is lower than usual and try to spread negativity over it
By combining this, the thread gets filled with negativity and spirals until people can't post about the tournament anymore.

I feel sad. I feel sad because the entire world around me feels like it's falling apart, everything i love is being taken away from me and i do nothing about it. I know i can do something, i want to, but i keep procrastinating doing nothin. I want to be better, i want to help the world be better, but i feel so helpless as everything burns and all i can do is rage and cry. All the injustice in this world, all the pain, i tried to help but every time my aid falls on deaf ears. After everything that has happened the past few years i feel like love in this world has died, that every loving relationship has been harmed and violated, but i know that's not true, i don't want it to be true, but the more time goes on the more love dies and more hate spawns. I tried to help, when things got tough i was there trying to defend people from injustice, but now people have decided that it's all over and expects the world to forget as if all the injustice never happened. I try to fight against the dark future, i try to make a brighter future for myself, but these demons around me, they keep me in my state of negativity. I have started following God to help me and i am thankful to him that he has helped but i'm still so unsure what to do. I feel like i am being prepared for a big war by God himself, to become one of God's warriors, but i also have dreams and i do not know how they fit into God's plan. I wonder if i should give up my dreams at times but i know i shouldn't because i know my dreams can help others, to help them feel positivity. I am hanging onto my light while trying to control my darkness, it's hard, and i wonder what will happen to me, to the world, in the future.

Metal Gear is always popular on /v/, and the Master Collection is likely to give Snake and Raiden a boost unless it ends up being a Silent Hill HD Collection-type remaster. He also would've been a top 20 seed last year had the new series limit rule been put in place, so he's still got a lot of fans. Plus he made runner-up immediately after Armstrong's win so it's not as though he can't defy the odds. Maybe I'll try writefagging for him this year if I'm not busy doing stuff for my other picks.
