I know most people here probably didn't play a lot of Contras, but on the off chance, do you have a favorite Contra game?

Yeah it was a nutty run. I had little issue with Mega Satan, Beast, the polaroids, even boss rush. But there are SO many little things that can bump into you in alt path and just end the run. The winning run had Damocles floor 2, then I got a goat head and chaos and went nuts. Brimstone, Sacred Heart, Ludovico technique, Eve's mascara, Guppy, all that good stuff. I got lucky with both a missing poster and birthright, too. Died in the room before mother, a bunch of fast-moving unkillable spiky balls were blocking the switch needed to open the boss door... which then sent the stress levels up high, because now Damocles could take the birthright life any second. A book of shadows charge and a lucky attack pattern saved it, Mother is the one final boss I just can't manage to do hitless.
I'd rate the character 8/10 in fun. The flight, stronger stafting damage, and better item pools are awesome. I'm not worried about health too much, just give me something fun from the get-go. If the game wasn't so fucking stingy with holy cards he'd get a 9/10.

Nah, Tainted Lost is just a worse Lost, I can't agree with you on that fun rating. The Lost is a great character, one of the most fun ones at that, but his Tainted is really not. There's too many sources of bullshit damage to make only being able to take 1 hit in the entire run fun, and his "better items" are just a lie. Still a lot more fun than Tainted Cain and Tainted Lazarus, though.

Fair, I'm probably still riding that high of actually winning. Now that I look back he probably frustrated me more than I had fun. I'd say my favorites are
>Lost. Eternal D6 is a huge improvement in repentence, I love it. Holy Mantle is also amazing, you can technically take infinite damage but only once per room. Starting flight and free devil deals kicks ass
>Isaac. It's the D6, what more do you need?
>Both Judases. Gimme me that fat damage from both Book of Belial and Dark Arts, both are great. Think I sliiightly prefer tainted just because of Dark arts, but yeah they're great
>Azazel. Even if the range is short, starting Brimstone and Flight is amazing
>The Forgotten. That stupid bone club is so much fun, AND you can still shoot normally with the ghost form.
>Bethany. Angel deals floor 2 are amazing, so is Book of virtues AND backup battery charges. Yeah you lose out on soul hearts, but it feels like a fair trade.
I need to play more repentence, I played the hell out of Afterbirth and Afterbirth plus so by the time repentence came out I had a bit of Isaac fatigue. I'm just getting back into it again with repentence plus. I will say Tainted Eve, Tained Lilith, and Tainted Magdalene look really fun. I had fun with Tainted keeper, I'm a masochist but those shops are awesome. Jacob and Esau are actual AIDs, I do not like having to share items and I really don't like having fat fucking hitbox that sometimes seperates into two hitboxes.

Most people do not like Jacob & Esau so it's not surprising to hear you not like them, however I have a lot of fun with the bros, they're one my favourite characters to play. I'd say my favourites are
>boner (he bones)
>Tainted Apollyon (fuck actives god I fucking hate actives so much)
>Eden (a basic character, which is a good thing, and can have a fun start)
>the bros (they're really strong once you get the hang of them)
>Lazarus (oh boy, time to kill myself again! from bland to really fun in one simple change)
Having played every character, I can tell you that Tainted Eve is either a horrible time for you or a horrible time for the game, no in-between (and more likely the latter). Tainted Lilith is not a challenge character whatsoever, she's simple fun. Tainted Maggy is interesting at first until you're better off not running into enemies anymore (which is not long into the run). Tainted Keeper is very fun and OP, and the only reason you die most of the time is fittingly greed.

"I'm not into his origin genre of vidya, but it is an honest shame me and Master Chief's paths had to cross this early."

"Actually, you mind if I vent a bit? Even after all this time, I get butterflies deep down in my stomach whenever I win a match over someone else, even the ones who don't particularly like me all that much. I'm drawing a blank right now, but a good example is the smoking demon. AHA! Justice it was, right? Total sweetheart when the Round 1 results of last year's Queen /v/ came in, no qualms about her loss or everything potentially being rigged. Yet something just kept... gnawing at the back of my brain, y'know? That I, and pardon this use of internet lingo here, unfairly "cucked" her out of the running for the title. If I had to play armchair psychology with myself, I guess I've just been so used to branding myself a failure in the past that I've yet to fully accept that I'm just as valid a video game all-star as anyone else in the present. I don't thank my fans enough for keeping me involved with these multiversal beauty pageants. Maybe not today, but one day. One day I'll take home the gold, and put the widest smile on everyone's face."

Apollyon looks cool but his thing being starting with the Void, an active that, like most actives, sucks complete balls, it makes him not that interesting. Tainted Keeper is basically what Tainted Lost is but made to be fun, yeah. You've actually got better items and you only have one hit of protection that doesn't always come back but at least doesn't rely on finding a card that only appears once every 2 runs.

You mock us as though we are deaf to it. I have been burned by greater fires than your tongue can kindle. If we had defeated Marth and Roy in our sleep, it would not be from laziness, but from conviction. A man who walks with purpose does not require theatrics to overcome his enemies. As for this “satanic metal band” you speak of… we have heard worse. Music cannot stop a man’s heart unless the Lord wills it so. And if the Lord wills it, no cassette tape is necessary. Now, if you have something meaningful to say, say it plainly. I prefer honesty to noise.

You think this is a costume? The bandages are not for spectacle. They are a reminder. Once, I was cast into fire at the Grand Canyon and left to die. The flames stripped away my pride, my vanity, and nearly my life. What you see is not decoration, it is penance. A “Spirit Halloween” mask can be removed at the end of the night. This cannot. It is stitched to memory and consequence. If my appearance unsettles you, then perhaps it is doing its work. A man should be troubled by the cost of his sins, and by the sight of one who survived his own judgment.
Mockery is easy. Endurance is not.
