I’m feeling this one is going to be harder to fill than /co/‘s because so many games are geared for single player, 2 player or 4 player. 3 player is that weird middle where there aren’t many characters made to represent as a trio as opposed to just individuals or duos. /co/ has many trios ready to bat for this but it feels /v/ has just a few.

Looking at my calendar and taking the world /co/p into account, there's limited time for three player anyways. If the shota tournament happens, it would have to be one or the other while something gets moved to July.

The biggest issue imo is enthusiasm. Tourneys should should some hype base and support before they go off. A lot of hosting attempts in recent years just seems like an "i want to do this so it's happening" kind of thing out of the blue or regardless what anyone says. You can pick and choose but as it is it's spreading the /tnt/ and tourney regular crowd thin too.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Every team is competing against every other team. It's not all 4-player vs all 3-player. Maybe the ratio would affect the likelihood of one or the other winning if we were just picking randomly, but when you're deliberately selecting one team over another, a 4-player team has no inherent advantage over a 3-player team. The team voters like more will probably win regardless of the actual number of players in it.

I'm trying to understand the fixation on the relative number of each. Does it ACTUALLY matter what the ratio is? Simply stating that one is more frequent than the other is not actually an argument for excluding either. This sounds like the assumption is that we absolutely HAVE to pick one or the other when there is no detriment to either if both are included. If it's more generally focused on teams that wouldn't compete in co-op rather than getting anal about the specific number, you can include the oddball trios without needing to force them to include roster filler to compete, and they would just compete normally. The idea that there's any advantage one way or the other is weird, and if that's really the issue, maybe walk through how that works in practice, because I don't see it.

Outside of Kingdom Hearts and King of Fighters, there isn't a whole lot of trios actually, especially compared to how many games support four guys and how trios was crafted for /co/ specifically. If anything I'm curious why people want to keep trios in when it's more of a hassle to implement.

I'm questioning the idea that it's in any way a hassle. Like specifically WHAT is difficult to implement about that? Same nomination format, same qualification process, same voting process. I've yet to see any actual argument against it except that it was conceived with a strict number of characters per team, which seems less for any practical reason and more because that's how /co/ did theirs.
