Thanks for voting for Assholish Adult Swim Duo for however long you did! I was thinking about doing this awhile before the tournament no matter the result, but after 5 years, I'm retiring from campaigning for Master Shake here and on /co/. That doesn't mean I'm done with campaigning, but I want to move on from Shake at least. I'm saying this now so the Monarchanon can see it too and doesn't have to wonder where I went when I don't show up in 2027 for the team. Thanks for all the fun these past few years, anons. Sorry if this is a buzzkill in the celebration. Congrats to Shaggy and Scooby! Mystery Inc. was a worthy team to lose to. Scooby Doo's is probably at least my friend's favorite show and I grew up on it.

ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS!! The entire state of Rhode Island had reportedly put a restraining order on both of us for breaking into multiple houses. And now we cannot set foot to take vengeance against that infant!
>(To be fair sire, you did go quite a bit far with that)
HMPH, WHO NEEDS New England anyway, let Arther keep it! I’d rather take Camelot and they’ll all apologize one day when I sit on the throne. Silver, Zorak, it’s been a pleasure but I’m still going solo with this, may you enjoy your days but I’ll never rest until it all belongs to me, WITH PRIDE!!

Sorry things turned out differently, Shakebro. I was confident the two were going to make it together. At least Shake will now have Meatwad and Frylock for Trio to compete next year. I know you won't be there for them after such a long run this year but I am hoping to see you around with whoever you support next because your campaign (along with Mystery Inc.'s) were the highlights during this final hours of this tourney.

Also don't worry for the Monarch, I'll keep drawing for him the best I can as long as I don't have a difficult schedule.

It might just be a matter of exposure. If you're on /co/ you've likely interacted with Scooby-Doo at some point and there's over a half century of material to demonstrate their strengths as a duo that does a lot of the legwork of selling the team. Oddball crossover pairings can work but they have to have a pretty good angle to match a canon team as prolific and beloved as Shaggy and Scooby, and a lot of the chemistry has to be fabricated by a single poster, basically. A couple of posters at most. And I think we aren't as subversively-minded as /v/.

In the end, despite our rough patches and a history of animosity, you were alright Shake. The man-cup-thing who stood by my side when few others who weren't either under my employ or sworn to me in holy matrimony would.

Checking the previous Tag Teams:
>2019
Shaggy and Scooby qualified under, appropriately enough, Mystery Inc. Lost to Yzma and Kronk in round 3.
>2020
Scooby qualified with Courage under Pups of Panic. Lost to Johnny and Jenny in round 2.
>2021
Shaggy and Scooby once again qualified as Mystery Inc. Surprisingly enough, lost to Giant Localizers in round 2.
>2022
Shaggy was nominated with Gamzee Makara as Unfathomable Power. Didn't qualify. Scooby wasn't nominated.
>2023
Shaggy and Scooby were not nominated.
>2024
Shaggy and Scooby qualified as Mystery Inc. Won the tournament.

It's amazing how this particular team was steadily losing relevance, but the moment they had an actual tourney presence, they ended up taking the crown. Makes you wonder how many classic teams would fare better if they had someone backing them up.

Same thing happened with Kangaroo Jack and Osmosis Jones; for some reason, WB really wanted to capture the family friendly audience no matter how confusing the final product ended up being.

The movie also had that deleted scene with Vilma and Daphne. I recall it also explained why Shaggy says "Did you hear that?!" out of nowhere before the possessed Fred chases them

I at least get the reasoning with an established property like Scooby-Doo even if I'm curious how the original pitch would have panned out. Best part is that I'm not sure it would be better or worse than the final movie we got.

Anyone else remember when the Skibidi Toilet characters actually managed to qualify?

Skibidi Toilet? A toilet is something you shit in, so I'm interested now. Let's sign them for a couple seasons. I'll be hard at work to rig them to win /cov/ and the main /co/ tournaments.

Are there even any truly bad versions of Shaggy and Scooby?

Well there's Norville in the Velma fiasco if you even count him, but I didn't bother watching enough to say if he was truly bad past the awful redesign. Any bad versions of Shaggy before him? I really can't recall any. Maybe a few more boring ones, like that one second live action portrayal that couldn't stack up to Lillard.

Yeah, but Goth and Ellie, an obscure vietnamese webcomic and cartoon, got qualified.

I remember the ones from Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get A Clue being pretty lousy, but it’s been a long time since I saw it.

It's one of the few Scooby-Doo incarnations I've basically not touched in any fashion. I know the show is bad, but why are Scooby and Shaggy so bad in it?

Maybe I'll just finally watch the stinker so I have a full opinion on it instead of just going off scattered info and what others have said on it.

Fred in the Skooks series was an asshole so I don't blame Shaggy changing his mind.

It probably would've been seen like the 1993 Mario movie in that general audiences would've been put off by how overtly edgy/raunchy it was compared to the source material, especially since Scooby-Doo was going through a renaissance in the early 2000s so kids at the time would've been confused. Likely wouldn't have been a cult classic like the final cut and Matthew Lillard probably wouldn't have been Shaggy's new voice either.
