Frankie winning ms. /co/ is still the biggest surprise. Probably because there was just so much cynicism in the tourney. A comic character winning Mr. was maybe even more unexpected in a sense but it was a smooth ride there.
The new meta is now if king is ever gonna have a returning E8 classic win.

I'd group Shadow closer to Armstrong and Dante than I would Garland, Grimm or Batter, but I think overall he's the bridge between those legacy picks It's funny to even put Armstrong in that group when MGR was only 6 years old when he won in 2019. and the campaigner "Flavor of the Month/Year" picks.

People are harsh about him winning right now, but I think with time people will look back fondly on Shadow's year.

I don't myself. Most I've seen her overtly treated as one in the tournaments aside from cunnyposters end of this year's event was during Queen 2021, which was in part because of those surrounding her in the Elite Eight that year. I'd argue it's more a toss-up on whether anons see her as a loli. The idea she's a young adult NEET is common enough and did come up in posts this year.

In shorter terms? Yeah, Schrödinger's Loli is funnily enough the perfect way to describe her situation.

I always thought it was a bit silly. She seems loli coded, if that makes sense. The general immature personality in the game, the twin-tails, clothing, and the usual japanese stuff with young girl protags, and I thinks it's her most common art interpretation (poll picture and such included). At the very least I'd say she's most sensibly hebe age with Recette.

Knockout Kings, Death, and Shadow are based. High powered contestants, big contests, great winners.
Gold, Kenshiro, Griffith, Krystal, and Jetstream Sam are good for what they are, but the contests were too low-energy to feel like "serious" winners. They merely "exist".
The rest are alright, or I'm just indifferent. I don't think I actively dislike any contestant.

>Frankie Foster
Pure /co/ waifu classic. Just an all around sensible and "conventional" pick and the kind of normalcy ms. /co/ needed after five years of controversial winners. Got rid of that terrible acronym. Probably should've already won 2019 or 2021.
>Madotsuki
Classic, not much to say. Was pretty much the most sensible pick possible out of the E8. Cool she broke the former runner up wall. Should've already won back in 2021.
>Giant Localizers
Good embodiment of what tag teams potential, cool/funny character duo that wouldn't ever have the chance to shine individually in the singles tourneys.
>Napoleon Bonaparte
Sure, he's as fitting as Alexander, though I'd have preferred Diogenes to represent the other sensibilities and characters of history next, but I mean you can't really argue that Napoleon doesn't deserve it. /his/ is a micro tourney though to the point I'm not sure about even including it in the lists. Stuff like bottom and barred of any tourney is much bigger and more engaged than /his/ is.
>Shadow the Hedgehog
I think he's okay, and it can't be denied he had the hype. Kind of disappointing to me since I think there were substantially better choices at the end and his win seemed the result of unbreakable repeating KoV tropes.

I mean, sure I guess. Gold is the gold color. Makes sense.

Background character meme that I was never fond, but it's ponyfag culture, I get it. In terms of actual female characters in that show you got a ton of better stuff to crown though.
>>rape
Literally just a meme, not even a person or character. But from what I gather Mr. pony is not a serious tourney at all, still surely there's some actual show characters to vote on that far instead? Like how the fuck hasn't Discord won yet?

The rest I don't pay attention to or recognize. Suisiseki would be a good ms. /a/ winner but that tourney was a farce and the majority of it did not even occur on 4chan or here. Krystal and Death are okay for furry porn winners I guess, not really cooming for them though. Didn't pay attention to Smash stuff at all and Sam is just a tiny tourney funpost winner. Overall fine year for winners.

To be fair /his/ is probably the second most disconnected from the rest of the tourneys after /mlp/, it's pretty much purely a board opinion poll with little to no meta or even campaigning really. Which is fine by me, having a simple to the point tournament works better for that board anyways.

As far as other male characters from the actual show goes, there's always hope but MLP's strongest characters have always been its copious amount of female leads, male characters of note are rare. Discord in particular probably has the next best shot after Spike winning last year but, I'm not sure if you have seen later seasons but Discord burnt a LOT of good will in the later seasons of the show that turn people off of him as a contender.

>Literally the only MLP episode I ever watched was the Discord one in like season 2 or whatever
Congratulations, you watched what was not only Discord's BEST appearance (which was his debut) but also arguably one of the best episodes of the entirety of the show.

To sum it up as much as I can, Discord always worked best as a villain but as early as his 2nd appearance in Season 3 they attempt to reform him into a good guy. The issue with ''''good guy'''' Discord is that he is an asshole and a terrible friend, which would be okay if other characters reacted as such but no matter what sort of bullshit he pulls he's forgiven by the next episode and he does some pretty heinous shit even after his 'reformation', the worst of which is in the later seasons wherein he alone is responsible for a crisis that endangers everyone and despite his enabling / encouraging other villains to be their absolute worse (including a child), it is only they who get punished rather than him.
No.172723

The /mlp/ anons lurking here aren't gonna like this, but Discord hasn't won yet because of waifufag autism
>Fluttershy was the one who redeemed him with her kindness, and they are often shown together in the show, which made a lot of /mlp/fags feel like Discord was "cucking" them
>later seasons have a loli villain who obviously got a large "I can fix her" following behind her, in the last season Discord takes her alongside some other villains and manipulates them into being a part of his plan, people like to push the narrative that Discord "never gave them a chance and made them worse" (though all of these villains were already shown as unrepentant way before they ever interacted with him)

I believe it's because of this /mlp/ started to get very moralfaggy about his later appearances like >>172720. Like, Discord was always supposed to be a fun asshole that causes conflict for everybody around him, his redemption was just gaining some basic empathy and not intentionally causing conflict on an apocalyptic scale. Thing is, what he did with the villains was 100% in-character for him and Discord who doesn't do things like that would be really boring and arguably not even truly Discord. I think it's really silly to give him shit for that when one of the board's most prominent memes is literally the manifestation of >rape.

And it's not like Discord never suffers for his shit, either. Aside from Fluttershy, most characters don't really like him and just tolerate him around, and whenever his ambitions backfire he gets it blown up in his face, looks like a retard and has to prove his loyalty to the heroes in some way. People moralfagging about him on /mlp/ weirdly never acknowledge those things and treat the show like everyone sucks Discord's cock all the time, it's like for them anything less than him forever being purged frome existence and kept far away from their waifus is unacceptable.

But this year Discord actually performed quite well, even getting to the Top 8 for the first time, so for better or worse, I think that extremely butthurt perception is slowly wearing off, whether because people leave and get replaced by new ones, or just stop caring as much.

>I think it's really silly to give him shit for that when one of the board's most prominent memes is literally the manifestation of >rape.
At least with >rape there's the refuge in audacity. The representation of every horsefucker's carnal desires who rapes everything he sees is funny. Seeing Discord continuously act like a whiny, perpetual manchild who regularly mistreats much better people than him is obnoxious inb4 this should make him more relatable to ponyfags

I'm just telling it like it is... I would love to have those tournaments too, but it'll just never happen...

He's the literal embodiment of chaos isn't he? At best you can just tame him to a manageable level sometimes. This hang up seems kind of silly.

Two people have e-mailed me about running an /a/ tourney and a /lit/ tourney respectively. No solid plan or date. They may try running something else on their own beforehand.

Yes, which is why reforming him in the first place was retarded. Discord was peak as a villain, the best the show ever had. Justifying his douchey behavior post-reformation as him being a chaos spirit only serves to enforce that this new role was never suited for him.

I will be fair and say Discord has his moments in later seasons: Guys Night episodes are very fun, Discordant Harmony is a good example of him acting chaotic without being a dick about it, his role in S4 finale with Tirek was excellent because it explored him having doubts about reforming (though it makes later instances of him being an asshole feel even worse after graciously being handed a second chance), but his peaks as a good guy never come close to the presence and themes he had as the biggest bad the series had up to that point. I still vote for Discord in Mr. /mlp/ because he has that much good will from Return of Harmony left, but most of his appearances range from him being unnecessarily cruel for fun to being a fucking idiot who endangers others because he has the emotional maturity of a five year old given godlike powers.

The only thing I really don't like about Discord's reformation is how he was made to be retarded in many important two-parters so that he couldn't immediately solve the plot. This is why I'm not a fan of the original S4 Tirek two-parter and slightly prefer the finale to that, because even with a similarly retarded premise, at least with that Discord got to contribute a bit when he tricked Tirek. But I don't think him being reformed was a fundamentally bad idea, this is what allowed him to keep coming back as more than just a villain to get rid of ASAP. I liked it when he acted as Twlight's trickster mentor for a few episodes (very likely inspired by Picard and Q's dynamic), unfortunately they dropped it after S5. They should've written him to be more consistently smart rather than making so many plots about him being petty.
