Guts won 2007.

08's finalists(Elite Eight if you will) consisted of the following-
Hosaka (Minami-ke)
Shark Fujishiro (Mermaid Bride)
Nagasumi Michishio (Mermaid Bride)
Lordgenome (Gurren Lagann)
Giovanni (Pokemon Anime)
Jeremiah Gottwald (Code Geass)
plus the final 2 which seemingly never had their rounds finished:
Medicine Seller (Mononoke) or Lelouch Lamperouge (Code Geass)
Claire Stanfield (Bacanno!) and Rena Ryugu (Higurashi)

So the E8 round would have consisted of the following matchips.

A. Hosaka (Minami-ke) Vs Shark Fujishiro (Mermaid Bride)

B. Nagasumi Michishio (Mermaid Bride) vs Lordgenome (Gurren Lagann)

C. Lordgenome (Gurren Lagann) VS Giovanni (Pokemon Anime)

D. Whoever won out of the two disputed matchups (The archives are sketchy and not complete. I've seen a few scattered claims that Lelouch and Claire won in terms of votes and it was just never declared as the guy bowed out, but I can't source it).

Then whoever won A would fight B and C would fight D, with the final fight coming down between those.
