I really like AM, but I still don't believe he has the odds in his favor as much as people have been suggesting during off-season. In a randomized match such as that I would expect Doomguy to be the one to bottleneck AM, not viceversa.

But that's beside the point here - yes, in a randomized bracket you have to hope you don't get immediately blown out by another high seeder/powerhouse and that just applies in general. For all we know we could for example get Travis vs Phoenix in r2 just like how Ms. /co/ had Frankie vs Shego.

The thing is Doomguy has had a poor track record with character that are memes in some way, and AM himself has become something of a massive funpost. So I wouldn't be surprised if AM won that match up.

Honestly I think Doomguy just didn't have good enough of a presence. I heard his poster liked to emulate the Doom comic a bit, but if you wanna get someone like Doomguy to run well you need more OC to call attention to him.

I drew a little of him when he hit one of my characters early on, but the loser's bracket took away my focus from then on. With something more consistent from multiple people I think he could carry quite well, as long as you focus on good ol' Classic Doom.

From what I remember this guy started his rigged in Quarterfinals. Those 20 people would had no effect on the final results since Grimm won over Scout because if you take away 20 votes from Grimms overall score, he still would've won by 63 votes.

A grandfather clause is also fucking stupid and rightfully shouldn't be a thing, but it is at least somewhat fair to vote on as many people think that retroactively banning someone is a shitty thing to do, even if that character should've been/was banned in the first place.
I'm not going to be happy with the results, and if the grandfather clause were to somehow not pass, then others would be unhappy too; there is no winning in this situation, all because the past hosts couldn't come up with simple and concise rules.

Okay, let me clarify a few things.

The way we envisioned it, here's roughly how the poll would look like:

>the pre-NSA grandfather's clause (allows in all the characters that qualified for a /v/ tournament before King /v/ 2021: list of these characters)
>none of the above (ban all the characters above and let only characters with obvious video game origins in)

This seems like fair representation of every major opinion.

"The whitelist is in effect for Queen" doesn't really mean anything because the only Queen character affected by the whitelist is Miku, who most people seem to want in anyway. What it concerns is mostly King.

People will get a chance to vote on this before King, either in the Qualifiers or Finals of Queen /v/. A poll in Finals is the more natural option, as /v/ did not vote for polls in Qualifiers and it would be unfair to force it on them without asking. But I was considering trying a Qualifiers poll in Queen as an experiment and a gesture of goodwill to the voters, since it would allow people to get rid of the whitelist and the "2 characters per winner/E8 franchise" clause right off the bat. But we're not really decided on that yet. I think for now it's more likely all the polling for this year's Queen will happen in Finals like with Ms.

/co/ is a literature board to begin with, comics are just books made with pictures. If you banned books from /co/ the tournament would be entirely Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Youtube characters. Even Shrek was a book adaptation
/v/ is different. Since the overwhelming majority of game characters are made for gameplay first, story second, most video game characters are originally from video games to begin with. Bomberman has his funny design because Bomberman is a lode runner romhack and it was less work to just modify the ninja sprites. Mario has a big mustache because Miyamoto didn't want to portray a mouth on such a low-resolution arcade sprite. Adapting from a book just muddies gameplay.

While I'm mixed on him being in now, I would argue that Christopher Robin at least fits more than Doctor Doom. Yes, Doom is iconic in MvC, but he's still Doctor Doom. It's also an issue of asking why other Marvel picks like Spider-Man can't join in King of /v/. At least with Christopher Robin, the meme version is very much his own entity and overshadows anybody else that can join from that game. Fair case to allow neither, but if either were to stick around I'd drop Doom first.

Barkley is also very debatable. It's a more fictional portrayal than the others singled out there, but at the same time if we're banning caricatures of real people might as well be consistent. Besides, nobody has actually done anything with him even if it could hypothetically be an entertaining campaign. Even just some posts in qualifiers would have been something to go off.

I generally agree with the other takes here, though I'd round up Vocaloid into the first camp. A good point with them and for that matter AM is that they were adapted from mediums that aren't that likely to be given the tournament treatment. I know the idea of a /lit/ tournament has at least been floated around, but a short story going to a video game over other adaptations is a very interesting case in of itself. It's actually a reason I would put Geralt and AM over Sam & Max, since those two are from the realm of comics. Hell, they won the first Tag-Team and Max made the Mr. /co/ Elite Eight at least once. That in itself is actually a great argument if they were to be dropped, despite their heavy video game association.

I've been playing Castlevania Dominus Collection, just finished Richter Mode in PoR.

Atmosphere and visuals are top notch. It even has multiple endings. I have seen it called Silent Hill in WW1, but I have never played it therefore I see it as it's own separate thing.
However gameplay wise it is mediocre to bullshit. Enemies take some 6-8 shovel, and some 7-8 bullets from an improved revolver. Rat enemies are a hazard if there is more than one since when you kill one the other is very likely to bite you and lock out half of your health. Some areas barely give you time to act, hitting you with enemies you couldn't see coming. And my favorite, take story mandated item that halves you movement speed, go through the trench and get swarmed from one side by a goon and a giga nigga and from another with some more enemies from the other side and have fun.
There are also some bugs like dying after taking a correct and intended path through insta kill traps and shotgun refusing to fire and resetting it's aim.
All in all it is heavily carried by it's presentation.

Decided to look through who has made every tournament thus far. It's not a concrete way of narrowing it down, but it does give some guidance on how to give a better answer here.

For Queen, some that stick out to me include Zelda, Jill Valentine, Rosalina, Felicia, Isabelle, and maybe Lady. Main issue is that there's not too many uncovered series in there, least throwing in King as well. Still, as characters I could see any of them easing in. I'd say Daisy could be intertwined with Rosalina as well, since she got screwed over last year during qualifiers. Really, I think it would be a shock to not see another Mario girl aside from Peach make it to the Elite Eight.

For King? Now this is interesting. Battler probably should make it at least once much as people meme on him, but I don't think he's a big three contender per say. Kirby and Gordon immediately stick out to me. Captain Falcon, Majima, and CJ all seem they could do it. Bowser could do it if he gets the right push. Rance sticks out too, but he's... special in these tournaments.

Kirby got really damn close in 2021, but the Nyarlyposting was just too powerful. In fact, that was the round people started getting upset Fuhrer wasn't using enough from his actual source material, which led to things like conspiracy posting taking off in the first place. Past that, Kirby has usually been taken down by reasonably tougher opponents, even if he usually does get defeated by a decent margin when that happens. Still room for improvement, and the character is popular enough where he could easily pull off an elite run if given the chance. His biggest issue might as well be his often silent nature thus far, an issue shared with admittedly weaker mascots that often pop up on the bracket.

Alternatively, King Dedede seems like a character that SHOULD be able to get further with his strong personality and great reception amongst fans. Still, I think the Heavy defeat during 2021 was somewhat demoralizing.

Despite there being less characters overall, this is a bit more interesting to analyze.
Terry and Sol are tied with the most amount of appearances, yet they consistently lose in round 1. Again, they both stopped showing up after 2021.
Arguably, MK is the best performing series. Two MK characters lasted 2 rounds, which is better than the majority of characters there. In addition, Johnny lost in the first round of the main tournament, but had a quite popular loser's bracket run.
With that, you could say Johnny is the best performing character there, but Geese Howard made it the furthest out of all the characters there in the main tournament.

From my experience on /v/ they’re just pretty annoying and seem to have a similar thing to Roll where they’re infatuated with that character in specific and not the games she comes from. There are more Ashley threads on /v/ than actual WarioWare ones. Granted Wario does well in King unlike the Mega Man reps, but he mostly focuses on his platformers and I don’t think there’s a lot of overlap with him and the Ashley fans.

The big thing with Johnny was bracket luck, since Round 1 placed him right against Scout. His Losers Run boosted his popularity tenfold but he seemed to be well liked before that, just out of his league. If he can carry that momentum and have either a better bracket or a return to seeded brackets like /co/, then there's a good argument for him to reach a new peak for fighting game guys in the main tournaments.

>Just a real solid pick to win. No Silksong yet stings, but she still leaves a nice impression just in Hollow Knight on top of some neat lore behind her.
>She might return to the Elite Eight depending on campaigns and the bracket, but no way she's winning. No Silksong is a massive issue and the wait has turned to more negative territory by now off Team Cherry's frustrating radio silence.

GLaDOS
>Don't care much about the NSA associations. GLaDOS remains a fantastic character, and she'd be a nice change of pace from previous winners aside from the obvious machine overlap.
>Either she returns a third time or ends up as a critical moment for an actual 2024 elite member. She feels like one of THOSE characters.

Alipheese
>Felt a little soon for me back in 2022, but I'm more down to see her take it this year if she pulls off another great run. Another nice change of pace with the winners thus far.
>Small chance she gets Brisby'd in qualifiers, but past that she should be fine. Don't see her losing too early bar poor luck, but we'll see where she goes past that. Could see her falling anywhere from winning to having a close shave in round 3 or 4.

Ashley
>I do quite like the character even putting aside some of her fans being a little weird. Still, I think her spot in 2022 is the perfect place for her. Nice honors reaching 5th place, but not sure she should be a semi-finalist. I'd be mixed on her as a winner, especially when Wario could have a big year this time.
>Definitely qualifies again with a good seed. Can see her being one of the ones to fall out of Elite Eight, however. My wild guess right now is round 3 exactly for her to lose.

Maya Fey
>Similar issue to Ashley, this time with Phoenix. Still, I think she's a better pick overall in her own right. I would not complain at all about Maya going far, though she's not my TOP pick to win it all. Just a really good pick, and if anyone ends up slipping quietly back into the Elite Eight this time I'd be fine if it was her.
>Well I just said what might happen. She might get some love, but realistically she's a pick you go with to just swim up into the later rounds. We'll see if she catches wind by that point if it happens, though I'm going to guess she makes 4th at the highest this time.

>Cool character that deserved the good run in 2022, though going forward not sure I'd call her a real prime pick in my own eyes. I think the 2022 run was good unless she gets a real serious push this year, though I don't know if she could break past quarterfinals.
>Eh, I'm going to lean on her not making it as far this time. Surprises can happen and I expect she'll do fine enough for a Soulsborne pick. Main issue is that those picks typically don't get far in these tournaments, with her 2022 run fresh off Elden Ring's initial release being the main exception.

Morrigan
>Way too quiet in 2022, but a great pick in her own right. I would not mind if she comes through with another, hopefully more vocal run this time. Worst I can say on 2022 past that is that Gardevoir should have probably made it instead. Just adds onto that run being more of a fluke for Morrigan, however. I can see her ranking better this time if she does return to the Elite Eight.
>She's got a fair shot at returning to Elite Eight, but definitely not a safe one. Really depends on the bracket and her momentum this time. I don't think the Spidey boost will happen aside from maybe the slightest amount in the earliest rounds, which is counteracted by /v/-exclusive tourneygoers and more casual voters who don't frequent the threads.

Main two I don't believe will return to the Elite Eight will be Ashley and Ranni. Any of the other five have at least fair shots if they return, but I'm going to be bold and predict two of them do it. Don't have a million reasons for that. Just my gut feeling right now. Imagine we'll see at least one or two from earlier years back this time as well.

SMTbros be real with me which characters are getting into each tournament this year? I'm guessing Pixie and Alice will continue to qualify for Queen (and nobody else as much as I might like Isabeau or Zelenin) but King is a bit of a mystery as to who could fill in the power vacuum left by Demi-Fiend. I think Jack Frost will probably qualify despite everything but what I want to know is who else might have a chance? Maybe Nahobino because of SMTV Vengeance releasing this year? Jack Frost will be back, but quite likely not make it back to the Elite Eight for obvious reasons. I'd say Nahobino making it is a toss-up. He got really damn close to making it in King of /v/ (if he hadn't been dropped for FOTM rule), so Vengeance and the Demi-Fiend gap might be just enough for him to squeeze into the bracket. Anyone else? A popular demon like Mothman or Mara could always luck out, but that's more of a crapshoot to predict. Won't be a high seed. I know some other protagonists like Flynn would be neat, but I don't think it's going to happen. Demi-Fiend is really the best pick, and I do think it will be at least tougher to see SMT get real far again on the bracket this year.

You probably nailed it for Queen. A third character isn't impossible, but being realistic Pixie and Alice are the ones with enough broad appeal to actually make it in. Now will either get any real results? Not impossible, but not counting on it at the same time. It would take a luckier bracket and an actual push around one of them, neither of which I would say is that safe a bet.

Not the most exciting answer, but I think the main problem is that there are sadly a low amount of SMT picks that stick out just enough to qualify. If you want one more surprising guess at who might even have a chance? Lucifer. Far more unlikely than not, but I think there's at least a chance in hell.

Now this is interesting. I could see Door-kun as a surprise dark horse if he does qualify. He's popular as a protagonist and arguably would be the Persona protagonist with the best actual shot of doing anything. Yes, Tatsuya could be incredible IF he qualified, but you said yourself to be real here. Adachi has a fair shot at returning, though I will say it's not as safe a bet as it might seem at first. I'd still say it's a 3/4 chance. Any other characters? Past Door-kun, the only other P3 guy I could see really joining would be Junpei. Looking back, he's done "okay" in past qualifier results, though it's hard to say if there will be an actual boost for P3 big enough to get him in. It would have to be a serious impact on the results at least. Yu is always a possibility, but I think he's going to remain in qualifiers limbo. Any other party members are harder bets bar anything goofy like a lot of people voting in Koromaru or something. Kek.

Then there's Nyarlathotep. I really doubt he's going to do AS bad this year long as his qualifier name doesn't get fucked up AGAIN. Now will he make it back? I think it's possible, but I'm going to say it's not a surefire shot. Missing two years IS going to be an issue here, so it might come down to the voter count and general voter taste during qualifiers. A lot do know about Fuhrer and a handful know about his fun run in 2021. Just going to be prepared if he still can't make it on, even if by more of a hair this time. I'd say it's a surprise toss-up here. Now with that all being said, I do HOPE he makes it back. His campaigning in the later part of King 2021 was very entertaining, and I imagine him opening right up with that direction could be fantastic to witness.

For Queen? Aigis will very likely be back once again if she's been able to qualify several times even before this year. Anyone else is hard to judge, and I would argue Persona is one of the "big three" series (alongside Xenoblade and Fire Emblem) that have clearly fallen out in Queen's favor as the years have gone on. Out of Persona 3's cast and possibly on the whole this time, Elizabeth has the best shot just going off precedent. Outside her, only other P3 girl I could see getting lucky would be Mitsuru. For Persona 4, Chie has a shot at coming back, and I don't expect the others to do it. Naoto would be second, but I don't see it myself. Persona 5 is going to keep failing to qualify.

Problem with Persona is that I do think it has more serious issues with spite-related targeting. Fuhrer and Adachi are cool enough to generally get a pass, but others are definitely more susceptible.

Hell, the SpongeBob picks could have both easily been defeated with just a little more pendulum shifting. I would say Eddy get too stagnant when it counted against Squidward and Batman was just too much to the wayside in general. Still, different discussion. The main point here is that the traditional seeded brackets weren't an issue, even if Mr. /co/ is already the most sane tournament.

I still think it would be neat to try some kind of hybrid bracket due to how close the last traditional vs. randomized vote was last month, but if we have to go fully in on seeding I don't mind. Besides, it doesn't exclude more surprising outcomes. Just see the 2021 tournaments alone.

I believe he’d beat Nyarly by a narrower margin and lokely still beat Morshu. That was a real clear road for Batter to advance, and I’m skeptical that it would be that much worse for Spamton. The real question is Eggman, and to be blunt I think he wins in this case. He had a lot going for him that year, with Batter’s unique origins and schizo association being key to push him over the edge. The merchants were weaker overall, but critically they’d also not do as much with the schizos defeated by then. FOTM would have also hurt him. Spamton had a chance to win, but it was slimmer than what ended up for Batter.

How does this affect later tournaments? Likely doesn’t for the following year. 2023 is another matter because of both the schizo sequels and the return of Eggman. I could still see Grimm making it off his general momentum, though less schizo stuff could potentially slow him down or critically affect other factors. Take Scout for example. Batter would put up some fight, but likely not return to Elite Eight.

Will say Spamton remains a clear fan favorite from Deltarune AND Undertale together, and his whole character throws back to the older internet in a memorable manner.
