Humans had no need for pillbabies, I don't think. Maybe the transfer process is just part of the drone manufacturing process since the 'core' is a complicated piece of the story given its connection to the Solver. So it's more likely the former. Generic worker drones from whatever environment randomly selected and pulled into CF Research Labs. I don't think they built drones specifically for their research, but that's more my opinion on things. Why create a separate assembly line when at the end of the day all the labs require are just drones by the truckloads to stresstest (based on the options you see displayed by the keybug Uzi found) until they manage to induce a Solver drone that they can then use to refine the crucifix patch.
They might actually be looking for drones who've had a record of physical injuries from their respective work fields since it might make the researchers' jobs easier given the drone already had gone through some amount of stress to their systems.

Second generation drones on Copper 9, not created by humans but created by parent drones, grow up as pillbabies and are eventually put into a Worker Drone body.
All other drones before that were manufactured by humans, they develop their personalities while always being in a worler drone body since they were made.

The test subjects in Cabin Fever are just Worker Drones, likely all Zombie Drones, that were being tested on to attempt to study the Absolute Solver. Some, like 002 (Nori) and 048 (Yeva) were proper Solver hosts, some like 017 (Alice) were not.
Liam explained that Zombie Drones more easily and quickly develop more complex personalities through learning than regular, shackled Worker Drone AI. For obvious reasons to do with how Zombie Drones and the AI core coming back to life work.

TLDR;
Nori, Yeva, the other Cabin Fever test subjects, Khan, all the Worker Drones before the Core Collapse - were not pillbabies and were built by Humans. They got their personalities over time without the pillbaby stage.

1001 is the version of the worker drone's "AI". Every worker drone we see in the series appears to be a v1001 drone, including Cyn.

Actually, come to think of it. The CF Labs might want to use both drones fresh from the assembly line AND drones who have been out and about in harsh working environments. More data is useful. The problem there is the time-critical situation. So they might not actually have time or the resources on every exoplanet to make a new assembly line for research-use only drones, once they saw what happened to Earth. Copper 9 might have been a special case since we don't really know if the other star systems had enough time to respond by creating their own CF Labs. Maybe they did, but their closer proximity might have meant less time to do anything before the Solver reached them. I don't remember off the top of my head clearly but wasn't Copper 9 the farthest system on the map in ep 6?

A lot of it is supposition on my part. I don't know if there were hints of zombie drones being apprehended and then taken/shipped to Copper 9. At best, the episode 5 VHS only relayed that zombie drones are a thing they have to deal with. Like N, V and J, and maybe even other manor drones since Louisa mentioned Tessa had more of them clogging their library.
Zombie drones could even be a recent-ish thing (by the time of the Gala in the past, that is) that the humans discovered once enough rich people started dumping their dead worker drones irresponsibly like what the Elliotts did. There's not enough scenes to really convey the amount of time humans observed these circumstances but it did feel like they didn't have time to figure things out if the other star systems fell and Copper 9 just barely figured out one successful version of the patch to exorcise the Solver before it too fell to the incomplete Null event (that still pretty much wiped every human on the planet clean of their flesh, even if they were in cryosleep chambers like in the corridor of episode 2).

As far as I know CFL wanted to find out more about AS as well as patch hosts (like Yeva, only known success), which requires Solverhosts which only zds can become (due to them being vulnerable to AS since their programming is damaged/the failsafe that not only triggers upon 'death' but also AS detection [like we saw on Uzi at the pilot's end, unsure tho why it took so long to try terminate her, didn't work tho since she inherited AS] not working, which would probably kill a normal drone if it has any AS contact), so it would make sense to have only ZDs as subjects, since otherwise, as can be seen there

Alice has the same after she got her head stepped on her lights seem red, but one that's due to the low envioronmentla lighting of were she fell and green-red being complimentary colours, which would orange appear more red when shined on with green than it really is (also if you watch in slow motion, you can see how as she falls the lights on her hand go from dark-orange when standing to red on the ground, showing how worsening lighting skews their appearance/////or look at pic rel, that scene doesn't have nearly as bad lighting as the floor where she lays and yet her chest light appears almost red here due to aforementioned contrast/bad light)

Which means that you would need to kill not 10.000 drones but 1.430.000 drones, and even then the hazardous mutation isn't guaranteed to be the solver. And I mean it literally. Tessa as shown in Home **never existed** in the first place.

Or, more accurately, **Cyn never existed and it was always Tessa.** Tessa who has gone insane from all the abuse she has received. She has always considered Worker Drones (especially N, V and J) to be her real family and developed a strong hatred towards the human race.

So, in her spare time, she was researching any possible way as to how she could enact revenge on the humans and be Drone-ified herself. She eventually found the answer in occult rituals (see her room) and summoned the entity known as The Solver who was more than happy to help with Tessa's revenge plan, on a very simple condition. It would transform Tessa into a drone, and in return she would use her newfound powers to cause as much mayhem as possible to entertain the entity. Tessa obliged, the Gala happened and we know the rest.

Episode 5's memories are nothing more than fabrications aimed at obscuring the true story, especially N's memories who have been "reformatted to soup" but there are some hints that point to the truth. Cyn's unexplained techno-knowledge is one of them. How would a simple drone know how to hack robots, set herself as the new admin, create countless AI backups and transform Workers into ruthless killing machines armed with an extensive weapon arsenal? Well, if Cyn is actually Tessa, everything clicks together.

Tessa as a human clearly had technical skills, judging by the fact that she was able to repair discarded robots to a flawless condition. Add the new Solver powers into the mix and she's basically only constrained by her own imagination now. And the Elliot weapon exhibits (such as the gun and the sword) would provide excellent groundwork for future Disassembly Drone weapons once Tessa officially began her killing spree.

This would even explain "Cyn's" childish behaviour at numerous points in the show, especially her specific attachment towards her big brother N. Tessa is having a blast doing whatever she wants and she's dragging N, V and J for the eternal ride as one big happy family, roleplaying as a little sister. And if they step out of line? No problem, she can memory-wipe them over and over to maintain her fantasy. Because the last thing she would want is for any of them to become independent now that they are together forever. The universe is her playground.

As for the entire skinsuit thing? She got that idea from her old grave-digging adventures. If she can give Drones human hair, why not do the same thing on herself? But, instead of random hair, it's her own former human skin that she now wears as an accessory: a messed up insane version of dress-up.

But anyway, that's just a theory. A Murder Drones theory!

I know someone who made an AU about this. He made it so that Tessa was a result of a ritual or something and she was the first host. The solver was just a supernatural force that JCJenson used, it wasnt sentient until Tessa became it. And I mean it literally. Tessa as shown in Home **never existed** in the first place.

Or, more accurately, **Cyn never existed and it was always Tessa.** Tessa who has gone insane from all the abuse she has received. She has always considered Worker Drones (especially N, V and J) to be her real family and developed a strong hatred towards the human race.

So, in her spare time, she was researching any possible way as to how she could enact revenge on the humans and be Drone-ified herself. She eventually found the answer in occult rituals (see her room) and summoned the entity known as The Solver who was more than happy to help with Tessa's revenge plan, on a very simple condition. It would transform Tessa into a drone, and in return she would use her newfound powers to cause as much mayhem as possible to entertain the entity. Tessa obliged, the Gala happened and we know the rest.

Episode 5's memories are nothing more than fabrications aimed at obscuring the true story, especially N's memories who have been "reformatted to soup" but there are some hints that point to the truth. Cyn's unexplained techno-knowledge is one of them. How would a simple drone know how to hack robots, set herself as the new admin, create countless AI backups and transform Workers into ruthless killing machines armed with an extensive weapon arsenal? Well, if Cyn is actually Tessa, everything clicks together.

Tessa as a human clearly had technical skills, judging by the fact that she was able to repair discarded robots to a flawless condition. Add the new Solver powers into the mix and she's basically only constrained by her own imagination now. And the Elliot weapon exhibits (such as the gun and the sword) would provide excellent groundwork for future Disassembly Drone weapons once Tessa officially began her killing spree.

This would even explain "Cyn's" childish behaviour at numerous points in the show, especially her specific attachment towards her big brother N. Tessa is having a blast doing whatever she wants and she's dragging N, V and J for the eternal ride as one big happy family, roleplaying as a little sister. And if they step out of line? No problem, she can memory-wipe them over and over to maintain her fantasy. Because the last thing she would want is for any of them to become independent now that they are together forever. The universe is her playground.

As for the entire skinsuit thing? She got that idea from her old grave-digging adventures. If she can give Drones human hair, why not do the same thing on herself? But, instead of random hair, it's her own former human skin that she now wears as an accessory: a messed up insane version of dress-up.

But anyway, that's just a theory. A Murder Drones theory!
