Refer to OP pic for currently running series in Weekly Shonen Jump, if you're not sure wether to post about a running manga here or in the /jam/ general. This thread is generally only for discussing manga that are or have at one point been published in Weekly Shonen Jump.
Next arc looks to be Iida-centric. I'm not complaining, but I just want Momo to get some time to shine at some point. Author build her up only to have her turn into some minor background noise to add flavor to the class.
That's because each series costs them money, and most of what they don't take is bargain-bin garbage that their customers don't want to pay for.
There's a reason why they ony take one of every three Jump Start series, and that most of the time it feels like choosing the least shitty of three bad options.
>>91799 Well, better than Goku's minute that didn't even work because he apparently didn't realize staying in super saiyan 3 would continually deplete his stamina even at rest.
>>91799 I wasn't on board with it until they treated it as some sort of wrestling event. The people cheering a countdown completely justified it to me.
>>91804 I was kind of liking the Gaiden up until this chapter. It was a cute little sidestory where the idiocy of the main plot wasn't hugely relevant. I guess that was too much to ask for.
>>91808 >>91801 So does it seem like Sakura won't be Salad's mother for whatever but Kishi will be pushing the "Its not your genes that are important its who raised you" (That still leaves Sasuke a shitty deadbeat who can't even make a call on his cellphone/magical ninja hawk?)
Or will Kishi go that route only to turn around at the end and shoot it in the head by having it revealed Sakura actually is her daughter's birth mother for the happy ending plot tweest.
>>91814 Genes are really goddamn important in Naruto. Especially during the end of the first series as its resolution is predicated on Naruto and Sasuske being descended from outright demigods to channel their great-great-great whatever.
>>91821 Yeah but Sakura has subhuman commoner genes that don't even give your offspring the most minor of buffs, Karin at least her superior Uzumaki blood.
By god, is Kishimoto a national socialist? With his emphasis on the importance of superior bloodlines bringing greatness and the fact Orochimaru did nothing wrong!
BUT! What if Karin did it on her own with mad ninja science. "NANI?! Sasuke cut his own balls off to put end to the whole genetic family feud thing? Fuck that, I'm having my sharingan baby!" Goes to the gene freezer because ofcoures Orochimaru has one of those. >9 months later "DAMN IT KARIN! Who going to take care of this mess?" Then Sakura bursts through the wall, yells "yoink" and takes off with the baby. "Thanks honey. Guess she wasn't kidding when she said she was going baby crazy."
>>91830 Either way Sakura & Sasuke's "relationship" being portrayed as fucked up and dysfunctional is surprisingly plausible writing, its not like they even had a proper basis for a relationship apart from being on the same team for a small period of time as kids. But isn't it just going to turn out they really love each other and that makes their marriage "strong" and all this messed up hullabaloo thats fucking up Salad so awfully will be brushed aside?
Its still the same old terrible naruto, eyewank bullshit everywhere, it seems like the big bad of the upcoming Boruto movie will be a dude thats from Rabbit Woman's race/clan with two Rinnegan's in his hands?
>>91828 Well, I guess it doesn't look too bad. It might be fun if it doesn't end like GT, where they have lots of good ideas and now idea how to execute them in a satisfying way.
>>91829 I've got my money on some kind of "Les Enfants Terribles" scenario, myself.
For some reason Bolt's design makes him much more likeable than Naruto, at least to me.
I think it's the hair. The way it looks like a pepper and the little ahegao-twig thing are just silly enough to offset his whole tryhard edgy attitude. Naruto's hair always looked like a generic ball of spikes and later fuzz and never really looked good until he grew a face manly enough to work with it.
That and the choice in clothing. The red/black/white combo might be generic as hell but it works. When he was a kid Naruto only looked decent with his jacket open or off.
>>91866 To be fair, neither of them started off thinking they were anything amazing. It wasn't until much later that we learned about all the destiny crap they both had to live up to.
I really wish the animated adaptation wasn't so full of budget because of how crazy dynamic Doflamingo's string powers get towards the end of his fight.
>>91871 I like the weird shit like Pain's Fight and Diamante's stuff (more relevantly) that everyone shits on. If the Threads got like that I'd love it.
>“Dragon Ball Super” is a complete continuation of the Majin Buu story arc. It’s got a bit of post-battle aftermath, continues with the “Battle of Gods” arc where the God of Destruction Beerus appears and the “Revival of ‘F'” arc where Freeza comes back to life, and then, I’ve written a strange new story where they finally depart from this universe. They’re fighting against their neighbors, Universe 6! They’ll yell at me if I give away too many spoilers, so I’ll keep the rest a secret, but they’re chasing after giant Super Dragon Balls; I think things will unfold in a bright and simple way, that will be really fun and exciting!
>>91923 What does that even mean, it's going to feel silly if they do more than just a brief recap of the movies. In before they simply split the movies up into episodes and run them like that.
Resurrection of F isn't as good as Battle of the Gods or.... I wanna say World's Strongest and Fusion Reborn but I don't remember all the old ones well enough (and the ones I do have been overwritten by the abridged versions). But it's fine. The monkey man hits the space alien (whose voice actor is KILLING IT by the way) and Team Booze is great and it's fun. Go see the fun movie!
Also they make a lot of the stuff people were worried about in the spoiler summaries fit pretty well. My only real complaint is that Jaco isn't exactly integrated smoothly.
So, uh...I kind of dropped Naruto years ago and all the places I used to go for subs don't seem to exist anymore. So is there any preferred group now that I should look for The Last subs?
So I had rum to get rid of anyway so SURE, Naruto: The Last, why not. To preface this I will say that you should ideally still not watch this movie even though I am going to say nice things about it because if you've cut yourself off, you should stay cut off. If you need that one last fix, well:
-Jun Fukuyama as an eye themed supervillain who believes that the world must be destroyed to create a new one. HA. FUCKING. HA. -The director of this thing, though he has few projects to his name, is still way overqualified for it. He headed up the Victorian Romance Emma and Midori Days adaptations and more importantly directed fucking Twelve Kingdoms. -Basically they got this guy because they needed him to justify this incredibly unearned romance. There's a sequence early on where Naruto has to literally sort through both their memories in order to put together the "puzzle" of which one piece is an explicit confession. BUT WHATEVER. -The fights aren't great. He's not much of an action director at the end of the day and was brought on for his romance experience (Also his close at hand relation with Pierrot but hey) -They do get points for some cool environments thought. Most of the movie takes place on the moon. -That magic hand clock is fucking weird. -also the incredible easy of eye transplants in this universe -and oh yeah THE NINJAS HAVE TRANS-PLANETARY LASER CANNONS SURE -At one point this movie had me fucking fooled (although as I mentioned, rum) and I thought maybe this was actually going to be mostly through Hinata's legwork but NOPE. Brainwashing for the midboss fight and locked in a literal bird cage for the final boss. OH WELL. They do actually do the Love Love Tenkyoken though. -I do love a good wedding assault scene, cliche as it is. -Shikamaru is still cool.
>>92085 Found it! http://attackonnaruto.tumblr.com/post/126181724037/eng-version-part-1-x http://attackonnaruto.tumblr.com/post/126181950897/eng-version-part-2-x
I have a question about shonen jump its self why did they stop selling them here is my experience every time I went to my local food lion I went to the magazines to see what the recent shonen jump was and to also see if it came with a yugioh card then one day I looked and there was no shonen jump that day and there never was one since then so what I want to know is did they stop making them
They stopped selling them (assuming you mean the Viz manga version) because they stopped making them. They went to an online distribution model, in which they publish chapters essentially simultaneously with the Japanese magazine.
So I know the popular thing is to hate Bleach on this board but I just have to ask. Am I the only one that still enjoys bleach as dumb fun? I mean I know it hasn't been "good" for a very long time and never will be again. But I don't take any of it seriously and I can appreciate it as silly entertainment for about 5 minutes every week.
Which is weird because towards the end of Naruto I really just did not give a fuck anymore. I wonder what the difference was?
>>92150 Bleach is still funny every once in a while, while Naruto went down the path of badly written drama without occasional humor. There's a good reason I started liking the spinoff manga better than the main one.
>>92150 It's like Homestuck, it's become so convoluted and keeps spiraling out of control with no end in sight even though the author keeps saying the end is really close and you just want to keep going because you've invested so much already it's like you want to see it to the end. Like geez, start the final boss battle already Kubo/Hussie.
>>92150 >>92151 Fwiw, starting with The Last Naruto has... sort of patched itself up as a franchise? I mean it's still got space aliens and shit but from most reports Boruto is basically back to Part 1 and The Last was good too. Hell, aside from the weird paternity plotline 7th Gaiden had a fair bit of levity and was enjoyable.
Wait, so you're complaining about Homestuck (and by proxy, Bleach, the origin of this conversation) for taking too long to get anywhere yet in the very same breath you mention how you're now invested in HUNTER X HUNTER, THE MANGA THAT UPDATES ONCE A YEAR AND STILL HASN'T MADE IT TO THE DARK CONTINENT.
Jesus Christ, Mesias. I don't know if I should laugh or cry.
I just started with the anime. I haven't read the manga. I don't know the situation of the manga. I am not an hypocrite. I repeat, I am not an hypocrite. Don't hate me, please.
Speaking of Bleach, isn't Soul Society having Joseph Goebbels on staff made even more uncomfortable by the revelation that the Quincies are actual, literal, Spirit Jews?
I'm watching Naruto, for the first time ever. Previously I'd watched the dub a couple of times 10 years ago when it came on CN, but I only ever saw the filler episodes since I saw it around the time those were airing. I'm 6 episodes in and while I enjoy it, I'm starting to see why people don't care for it. It's quite juvenile. Specifically the characters, which right now are kinda two-dimensional and stuff I'd expect from a cartoon set in middle school. That being said, the music is amazing. This has to be one of the best OSTs an anime has ever had.
I heard a lot of stuff from the manga is censored out though. Should I read that instead, or just watch the series and read that afterwords?
I have a question about dragonball I'm watching the season 3 dvds and while watching I noticed that all the episodes where Goku is training for the tournament seem to end faster then all the other episodes from season 3 and the episodes from seasons 1 and 2 why is that
You should probably read the manga if you're dead set on it, for expediency if nothing else (though yes the anime tones back the violence). Though worth noting is that the general populace doesn't really turn on the series until... chapter 350ish I think? The first arc or two is just place setting in any case.
The manga is a better experience. That does not mean that it's good. But it's better.
Naruto has this thing where it starts off pretty bad, and then slowly gets kind of good, and then it slowly starts becoming bad again, and then it's fucking terrible and stays that way right to the end.
>>92220 Finished episode 14, and man. These fights are slow as shit for all the wrong reasons. There's about 30 seconds of something happening, and then the rest of the episode is spent explaining what just happened while the characters have a bunch of inner monologues that are identical to what they said last episode.
I'll finish up this arc, but after that I'll probably just switch to the manga just so things aren't so damn slow. I can't say I'm enjoying the series as much as I think I should be. Still, I'll keep going.
>>92225 It's the curse of shonen jump anime, since they all start while the manga is going, they have to either go real slow or terrible original content that usually isn't that good to stay behind. They serve as half hour commercials for merchandise for a hype train that never slows down, so simply taking a break is generally not allowed.
>>92233 The dub or the series itself? If it's the latter, that's a bit unfair. Sometimes the manga can trump the anime adaptation so hard, it changes your perspective. Example: I used to hate the Yu-Gi-Oh anime. It was so dull. Then I read the manga, which is completely fucking different and a million times better.
Naruto-guy here, switched to the manga and I actually kinda like it this time. It has good action and pacing, and the characters aren't as annoying. But then I've only compared it to the end of the "Land of Waves" arc which is what I've already seen.
alright Shunsui, but i mean, your power isn't as cool as "radioactive zombies of everyone i've ever killed" and "fire so hot that just by existing it slowly destroys the universe, and can incinerate someone completely out of existence"
I really hope that the first half of this arc is just Luffy, Zoro et al running around Zou, continually running into the aftermath of some insane bullshit the other half of the crew got up to, and wondering what the fuck HAPPENED here!?
Gravity is #4 in the rankings and #1 in my heart, but seriously she deserves the spot.
I would have liked to see All Might higher up but 5 is a decent position and its good to see the Japanese aren't being dumb just because he's not a bishie prettyboy. Props to the creator for no giving in to the editors.
>>92307 Really, most of the poll is fairly expected. Bakugou and Todoroki are the rival characters that always get nearly as popular as the main character, Uraraka's the main female lead. Iida being below Tokoyami is surprising, but outside of that it's pretty much what you would guess.
>>92345 You should reread Dressrosa, it's long but the fun is absolutely there. It's easy to miss reading that arc week to week. I am loving this crazy silly new arc already.
>>92349 Geez, the absolute last thing I wanna do is reread Dressrosa, that's the absolute last arc I wanna revisit right now, the first word I associate with that arc is "trudge."
I've only just now got around to reading Dragon Ball, although I watched Z for several years when it first aired. I liked Toriyama's art style a lot better towards the beginning, and less as it moved towards where Z started. It seemed a lot more fluid and detailed.
>>92361 It's clean in a way that you really appreciate. You don't want it to be so busy that it's hard to follow what's going on, but you also don't want to kubo it up and make everything happen in a void that's boring to look at.
Speaking of cleanliness, what happened to the violence in DBZ? I remember in the original Dragon Ball, the fight between Goku and Piccolo was brutal and bloody as fuck. Meanwhile a typical fight from Gods, F and Super is like an episode of Power Rangers. I'm not saying it needs to be brutal and bloody to be entertaining, but I really miss being able to take the series seriously. I know you're not really supposed to, but what used to be badass to me became cheesier and cheesier as time went on.
>>92363 Unless the translations I'm reading are inaccurate, young Goku also straight up kills the villains. As soon as Z starts he becomes the typical idiot shonen protagonist who won't kill even when there's really no other option.
>>92364 Goku killed people in DBZ. (Recoome, for example). However, he did plea for Krilin to not kill Vegeta, and that was because he wanted to fight him again. Which was changed in the English dub to showing mercy.
>>92366 He only knocked Recoome out, Vegeta was the one who killed him. Goku didn't even want to finish off Frieza, and we got a half page of a big frowny sad face when he did(n't).
>>92366 >>92366 No, Goku didn't kill anyone in the Ginyu Force just like how he didn't take out Nappa, he was full on bullshit-Messiah mode.
And yeah and he was even refusing to kill Freiza, he was entirely content to let him go back to ruling his genocidal empire by actively giving him energy to help him escape the exploding planet that Freiza himself had destroyed. Even when he got pissy that Freiza used it to attack him he half-assed the counterblast and somehow failed to kill the nearly dead Freiza.
Honestly Goku and Vegeta are lame main characters, watching them get handed yet another new tier of (recoloured) bullshit power while everyone else get shit on even more is lame as hell.
>>92365 http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-10-27/my-hero-academia-superhero-manga-tv-anime-briefly-listed/.94682 Pretty much, at least Toei won't be getting their hands on it, wonder how it will be done since the manga doesn't seem far along enough to do a single constantly running anime.
Toriyama has masterful sequential art chops, but his bigger-picture storytelling isn't so hot. The former can cover for the latter for a long time, but eventually the shit just builds up.
>>92372 He was making everything up as he went along~ Like, to the point of skipping rough drafts, I think I've heard. He made a big deal about Jaco the Galactic Patrolman being one of the only stories he's sat down and planned ahead and drafted out like one is supposed to when one makes manga.
Guess what? My Hero Academy is gonna be animated by Studio BONES. http://heroaca.com/ Hope you enjoy your BONES anime original ending! If they make enough to get ahead of the manga, that is.But then again, Kekai Sensen started anime original fairly early, so there is no easy tell at this point either way.
>>92446 Depending on how his power works he might not actually be able to brush his teeth due to the hand always being on his face when using his powers.
>>92451 When the chapter was being released on /a/ it was theorized that his power might be somewhat involuntary.
From the way he specifically put all his fingers except one on Deku's throat and panels of him doing that same thing with other objects in previous chapters it seems like if he puts his whole hands on something it automatically starts to crumble.
>>92484 ... Wasn't he supposed to be doing like, some kind of Mobster series, tho? One he'd done preview promo work for?
>>92487 The world of One Piece is so goddamn rich that all Oda would need to do to keep it going until the end of time is change protagonists. As maligned as the Supernovas were by some people, there's an alternate series in every single one of them as potentially rich as the one we actually got.
He did a mobster one-shot, but that doesn't mean he'll turn that into a full series. Either he decided to just leave it at the one-shot, or the reader response to it was sufficiently poor that Jump decided not to pick it up - which wouldn't surprise me, it was pretty awful.
>>92681 He'll take any chance to take a shot at Sanji, but yeah he's usually actually pretty good at addressing threats and taking a situation seriously. It just doesn't come up much.
Speaking of stupid everything thats been added to DB since the new movies is completely retarded. From the dumb new gods out of nowhere infinitely stronger than the previous gods, to the incredibly lazy recoloured super forms given to Goku and Vegeta for blatant cheap marketing hype and this page as another example. Its literally GT all over again but taking the dumb shit further because power creep.
>>92686 Ummm, I know you are trying to make that seem terrible and don't get me wrong I can certainly under stand why you'd say that.
BUT THE IDEA OF FUCKING DRAGONBALLS THE SIZE OF PLANETS THAT GRANT A SINGLE LIMITLESS WISH IS SO FUCKING COOL, so cool it's actually wasted.
What it should be is that instead of collecting them they should randomly arrange throughout the cosmos in such a way that they only align once every five years and you'd have to use exploration and intelligence to piece together when and where to summon him.
That way it'd be a cooler challenge and give non-fight based members something to do, furthermore that knowledge should end up being known to every race throughout the universe, then you'd have a hell of an excuse to fight not even for the wish, but to ensure villains don't get it.
>>92701 The whole concept of super saiyan god mode is far more retarded than SSJ4 ever was.
Why introduce GOD CHAKRA all of a sudden, and why do only saiyans get to have a bullshit ritual that grants it? Why don't all the other species get to go godmode so we can actually have the other characters being relevant again by flattening the power level bullshit charts and bringing everyone closer together. And hell why do only Goku and Vegeta get the nonsensical godmode, why not the other saiyan character? Its not like it takes much effort.
Plus the forms themselves are super lazy and effort-free, literally just a preteen changing hair colours in paint and calling it a new transformation.
>>92703 > >Plus the forms themselves are super lazy and effort-free, literally just a preteen changing hair colours in paint and calling it a new transformation. I will take a recolor over whatever the hell 4 was any day. I like the blue.
Also Bleach kinda hit a new high point of tonal dissonance, Yoruichi is comically mad and joking about an ass inject and Catgirl transformation while her own brother is gurgling to death on his own blood literally beside her.
>>92821 His look reminds me of Vapol. I kind of like that, usually that sort of design would be saved for a bad guy but here he's a helpful ninja friend that also happens to be ugly as sin.
I never thought I'd be excited for 'let's fight the exact same guys again' but in the context of World Trigger it's cool as fuck, both sides are going to spend a month studying what the other guys have got and coming up with new strats.
Ida looks hilarious. Like if there was ever some sort of after-episode short, everybody else would be voiced by different actors and actresses, except Ida, who'd be the same but putting on a Falsetto voice.
Its so amazing to see superheroes in a manga actually treating the bust a group of super criminals like the sort of law enforcement operation it is, not acting like a bunch of celebrity primadonnas looking for a random brawl or chance to show off.
And they actually work alongside the police even, in both intel gathering and the actual operation. instead of being all >"Hurr we have superpowers, we are just arrogant assholes, eat our shit mundane officers"
>>92923 One Piece has been firing on all cylinders since they got to Zou. I cannot wait for this clown party to try and sneak through Big Mam's hideout.
For people who've seen both how does Boku no Hero Academia compare to Tiger and Bunny? The latter got a bit too consumed by generic drama and yaoi shipping to have any more fun with the /co/ premise.
>>92938 Well the yaoi fangirls are really obsessed with drawing art of the boys from BnHA but thats nothing to do with the series itself as much as those types simply being obsessive.
Academia has been pretty good so far with a likable cast of protagonists both male and female EVERY GIRL IS BEST GIRL!, with many of them getting time in the limelight. Some people think the pacing is a bit rapid, also while it does at times follow certain cliches of the genre it doesn't do so in an upsetting fashion or way that takes the reader out of what is going on.
Speaking as for T&B specifically the setting aren't quite the same, in this world the empowered people are the majority and superheroism has become a career that people can use their special 'Quirks' for, there being special schools that teach people how to move into such fields. Heroes are famous and some of them focus more on the business side of it but unlike T&B these people are actual superheroes and not just set up as commodities by the businessmen running the show.
My explanations are kinda lame, bottom line its an enjoyable series that you should check out.
Speaking of MHA there's apparently a demo for the upcoming game? I don't have the handheld or speak Japanese so I don't really understand how this works.
>>92965 I fucking love that his helmet is a "high tech jello mold" when Kohei describes it, because everything above the bottom of his nose is still splattered from All-Might blowing the top of his head off.
>>92965 Shit has pretty clearly Gotten Real, and continues to do so with each chapter following. >>92966 With how scary this guy is I'm wondering how All Might even managed to do that.
>>92967 I would point out that however strong All for One is, he probably can't blow away the upper atmosphere as a by product of a punch, he most likely makes up for that with the stolen powers.

>>92988 I made the same mistake I've made every time I get impatient with an anime series; I started the manga. And because of that I have this continuous nagging at the back of my mind that makes me think "this isn't as good as the manga!" But if it gets a season 2 I will get back into the anime.
Fucking 13 episodes! Who the fuck thought that was a good idea??
>>92999 It's really been on fire. Sanji's team being evil an evil toku team is a great idea, I expected them to be less silly and I'm very glad to be wrong.
>>93024 The fucking smile he makes with his fucked up face, just to make fun of his old teacher. One For All is a truly amazingly terrible person, a real scumbag of a magnitude I didn't think this manga could even pull off.
Meanwhile on the matter of villains being more fucked up than expected, Big Mam's entourage is possibly the strangest One Piece has had yet, and every one of them is a gleefully murderous bastard.
This is my favorite part of this. He's spent all this time worried about letting anyone see his fucked-up body because seeing him wrecked like that would destroy public faith in him. And when it finally comes out? Everyone's still got his back.
World Trigger. It's sort of a hybrid between an action series and a sports manga. It more or less alternates between real battles and mock battles for rank within the organization. It's a weird combination but it works out super well, especially since the author makes a point of using the relatively low-stakes mock battles to establish characters who will be significant in upcoming serious plot battles. The combat is squad-based and strategy is extremely important, so it avoids a lot of traditional Jump action series problems. Information, not power or even skill, is the most important factor in who wins a given fight.
The first twenty chapters or so are kind of slow, but it's turned into the Jump series I look forward to the most each week (apart from One Piece).
Yeah, it's only recently started having consistent scanlations at all. Viz's digital editions are pretty well caught up to the point where scans started becoming halfway decent, though, so at least there's that.
>>93037 Yeah, Viz's weekly jump is a pretty okay product. I'm way far behind on it, but I renewed my subscription anyway. That's the pace I'm fine with, any way.
>>93084 Seeing it animated, that Noumus power, speed and endurance were terrifying. A weapon made specifically to defeat All Might really is a step beyond every other one.
