I'm never able to grasp why 4kids did this.
Did they think western kids would go insane with confusion if he had just said Rice Balls? Its not like its a major plot point, just say rice balls and move on.

Is Shin-Chan sort of like Ghost Stories, in that its an anime where the english dubbers go more over the top than the original script (though of course not as extreme as they did with ghost stories)?
Like I hear the original show is overall more mild as a slice of life anime than what the dialogue ends up as when the dub got through with it.

What does that have to do with the post you replied to? Do you even grasp what the webm from the dub is openly referencing?

Panty and Stocking is one that stands out to me, but I think it's helped by the English Language having more rude words and the /co/ related source material the show used as inspiration.

Most of the time I can't stand dubs, especially modern shit.

Didn't one of them die at the end of the show?

For one, they are angels. The 'hook' was that the remaining main heroes would have to collect all the pieces her sister cut Panty into to revive her.

Secondly, the show is pretty unserious.
Most likely the new anime will open with Panty revived and Stocking back to being good with no explanation whatsoever; if anything it will literally just be them standing around together going "Well that was some wild shit, let's never talk about it again" before proceeding with some unrelated comical bullshit.

What most people never heard, is that the dubbing team lied. The show was not a bomb in Glorious Nippon, and the producers did not tell the dubbers to do ANYTHING to make it sell. The real truth was, the show was a modest success in Glorious Nippon, and the dubbing team was full of frustrated funny people, who were desperate to show the world how VERY FUNNY they are.

The dub was funny......... in short (very short) doses. But they still lied.

To be honest don't care in the end, and don't think there's really anyone out there champing at the bit to see a 'faithful' english dub of the show.
