There's an upcoming official stream for SRW30 coming out in a couple of days, seems newsworthy. Most likely result will be them announcing the next DLC and its content.
>>421464 And they are still just modding the first game instead of working something new. It sucks because they spent so much time worldbuilding that shit, they could do something more than just add a new character in 1 year and then tweak it for another year. Part of the reason I stopped playing is because they kept fucking tweaking it with all patches, I don't feel like re-learning the whole game with every balance update.
>>421470 There's a ridiculous amount of background lore/characters involved for something that is just one fighting game. Though with the original studio dissolving because the dude in charge was such a fucking wankstain can't have helped things in terms of developing.
>>421471 Their next game being super woke instead of focusing on being a good game probably helped them getting dissolved. Is Alex Ahad still in charge of the lore, or is it just the studio taking over completely and turning his designs into new characters?
To be fair most fighting games also have a ton of lore. Darkstalkers has an entire classification system for the monsters and a long background story for the demon realm. Virtua Fighter has practically zero lore inside the game; but in reality there's a shitload of stuff (shadowy organizations brainwashing people or turning them into T-1000s, a diseased cook looking for a worthy successor, hell Shenmue basically started out as the prequel to VF).
After Richard Garriott's last project (or two) failed now he's moving into blockchain bullshit https://massivelyop.com/2022/04/12/richard-garriott-is-building-a-blockchain-mmo-following-the-failure-of-shroud-of-the-avatar/
>>421464 regarding this, Mike Z is counter suing the people who got him fired from his company. He has a 200 page legal document complete with chat logs about what went down.
>>421464 Just got gifted the game by someone on Steam. Need to know are the new characters they are adding any good? Buying the season pass containing them is more expensive than if I'd bought the original game itself.
Someone leaked the entire source & assets for the 2001 trailer build of Duke Nukem Forever. https://duke4.net/duke-nukem-forever-2001-content-4chan-leak/
>>421723 The development problems with the game were widely documented. It was a combination of engines not being capable enough at the time leading to project resets, and feature creep, that lead to the game being delayed. Which sucks because the videos of this leak shows that the game was working fine and pretty fun to play. Perhaps it wasn't Half-Life or Halo "big", but if they could've just tweaked the lightning to not look so... static, then it would've made for a fine 2001-2 FPS game.
>>421763 The whole thing was devised by soulless marketing executives who have no understanding of human beings and need everything 'quantified' to show what a good job they do at hitting targets.
To be honest it always annoyed me how the humans would just stand back and shout instead of actually getting involved in conflicts that aren't regulated sports matches. You fight outside the ring you fight for real.
>>421868 The characters that were DLC as part of an expansion in the previous game are now in the base game. Wonder if this one will be getting any paid content. (If they really wanted to gouge the fanboys they could make characters from other instalments in the franchise as playable DLC fighters)
People have found out stuff about the next mainline FE game, including pictures. lol @ the MC's hair. https://imgur.com/a/HGYtCpt
>Upcoming Fire Emblem is a new game, not a remake. Brand new story. >Collaboration between Intelligent Systems, Koei Tecmo and Gust (division of Koei Tecmo Holdings). >Gust heavily assisted with the visuals / graphics. Graphics are an improvement over "Three Houses". >Originally intended as an anniversary game to celebrate FE's 30th anniversary. The game has been finished for over a year. >Main character (main lord) has strange red and blue hair. mother is a dragon. >New "Emblems" gimmick allows players to summon "FE characters from the past" for your squad.

>Assassin's Creed Liberation HD will not be accessible following September 1st according to its Steam page
>The game is currently delisted on Steam but it appears even players who own it will no longer be able to play it starting this September. >The following notice appears on the game's Steam page: >"Notice: Please note this title will not be accessible following September 1st, 2022"
>It was previously announced that several Ubisoft games will have single player DLC access completely revoked on PC (for example the entire season pass for the original release of Assassin's Creed III), but in this case things seem to go a step beyond where a full single player game will no longer be accessible to owners.
Ubisoft is going above and beyond in its mission to remove your ability to play its old games.
Square-Enix are really getting into that NFT shit. https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/product/764037/final-fantasy-vii-bring-arts-action-figure-cloud-strife-digital-plus-edition-action-figure
So after something like ten years, I finally updated my MAME setup. I was forced to because the old one did not support XInput, and I changed gamepads. Probably would've been easier to use some form of dinput wrapper like Xidi but whatever. Also on xinput pads you can't use the middle "xbox" button. On my old pad I had that mapped as the pause button. That will take some time getting used to.
The worst problem is that it has been so long that they changed a lot of the ways they save settings (NVRAM folder) and I have to manually port a shitload of them. Yay. Fortunately, a lot of system use fixed patterns, so most of the time I just have to rename stuff and put them into folders, perhaps byteswap the data. Except for Neogeo which seems to use far larger saves for some reason, I didn't look into that yet, the one game I tested seems to have the extra space mostly nulled out. Would be a bummer if I lost all my Metal Slug high scores, I used to play that so much.
>>422493 It's more complicated because it needs to handle a lot of different arcade hardware, different inputs, etc. One game for example may come on 10+ different ROM files, which are dumped individually, or have a mah-jong panel input, or a trackball.
The real issue though is that sometimes they refactor things to be more technically correct, with no regards to how much this breaks the user experience. And they are also huge assholes about everything. For example, non-volatile save data (sram, onboard eeprom to store high-scores or test menu settings, etc) used to be saved in one single file in the NVRAM folder. If they change how this is saved, your old data will be lost with no warning. For Neogeo games, this was changed some time in the 00s (?) to be byte swapped. Then some time in the 2010s the entire thing was changed to have subfolders and multiple files, instead of just one "gamename".nv file - because some arcade boards may have multiple different eeproms to update. These changes are all technically correct, but I had to manually analyse and copy in the data because they did not do something to auto convert the old files. I understand that it's not always feasible to do this, but they had to update them to the new system at one point for every driver, so they could've written an auto converter for it too. It's not all bad since for most games you just straight copy the file in and rename it to eeprom or nvram, and if you only play for ex. CPS2 games, then you can batch convert dozens of files at the same time.
but yeah I still had a few hundred files to analyse and convert, took me all Sunday.
Also the new render is horrible and drops frames left and right, making a lot of high-speed games look choppy. I had to switch back to the D3D renderer, but this requires a fullscreen switch, which temporarily disconnects my HDMI amp during the switch. Oh well, it's not a big deal.

>>422967 Seeing mention of the Friday the 13th game it was kind of sad how that games got screwed over. >>422429 Wonder how many people posting on 4chan nowadays have even played an Atari. To be fair in my case it was my friend that owned it not me so just played it whenever was hanging out with him as a wee lad, my first computer was an Amiga and my first console a NES
Like a Dragon: Ishin! Official Announcement Trailer | State of Play September 2022 The Yakuza Samurai game is getting a remake like so many others in the series. This is one that never got released in the west so people had been jonesing for it, the fact its getting a remake on top of being translated & released worldwide will be especially good news.
Holy shit! They are releasing a remake of Suikoden 1 & 2, after all these years!
The store page is already up on Steam, the actual release is stated for 2023. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1932640/Suikoden_III_HD_Remaster_Gate_Rune_and_Dunan_Unification_Wars/
>>423327 I'm not really surprised, Farmer with a Shotgun was a huge meme in DBZ circles early on (I think in the Gamefaqs days). The kids who used to post those are now adults and creating content, it's why you have more and more memes make it into games.
Actraiser Renaissance is a good remake of an old classic. Bought it on sale and have been playing it alot recently. It adds a large amount of new content to the game and is all around just an improved experience.
I mean if one of the running jokes of the series is you getting punched in the gut then getting punch-proof abs is a sensible plan, its either that or taping a manhole cover to your belly like King Hippo. Personally I'm more into her long wild mane of hair
Still on the fence if I'll actually buy RCG2 though.
Rieko Kodama has passed away. If you are a fan of games such as Phantasy Star or Skies of Arcadia you would know her works. https://www.ign.com/articles/rieko-kodama-has-reportedly-died-sega

Like as a setting it has a ridiculous amount of plot and characters that barely get touched on so its got the content for it, just surprised how much they are doing for a game that has been out this long and faced various problems.
>>423996 Yeah, this has been suggested for a while now. As long as they get a decent script, it could be pretty good. However it may get ruined if they go too hard on the special fx and make it an anime fighter instead of a street brawler. SOR4 gravitated too much towards the special fx moves, the earlier games much less so (SOR2/3 had Blaze doing chi balls and Axel having a dragon spinning punch, but that was about it).
and if you want to see a good SOR movie adaptation, check Warriors or Streets of Fire. The entire beat'em up game genre was inspired by those movies.
>>424006 So the new bros are John Spartan from Demolition Man, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Xena Warrior Princess, guy who I think is the Mariachi from the Mexico movie trilogy, Seth Brundle from the Fly in the back there and then Burt Gummer from Tremors.
>>424092 Not really, all hardware companies start designing the next console pretty much as soon as the current one launches. And besides, new console generations nowadays just have a new AMD APU with everything else staying backwards compatible, so it's not like they need to do a lot of research & development on whatever will be int the next generation.
>>424158 It won't be as impressive as the top tier Genesis games, since most people who knew the hardware proper have since moved on. But it might at least have interesting music with Yuzo Koshiro.

>>424406 The EU parliament takes a decade to get anything through, and the laws they create just make it harder for the average person to do their thing.
Companies might just straight up stop selling games in the EU if they make laws against loot boxes, the same way some sites just geoblocked all of Europe instead of bothering to add GDPR notices.
Something seems a little off with Steam at the moment, is anyone else noticing? Its like records of your achievements aren't loading, either on the game pages in your library or on your profile page.
>>424462 I noticed that too. It got fixed for me when I played FAITH earlier and got an achievement, so try unlocking an achievement in a game if it still isn't fixed for you.
This looks like an interesting game. Both as in it looks like it might be interesting to play and quite literally in the odd style of retro aesthetic the graphics are done in.
>>424735 I'm really hyped about playing this, basically only buy fighting games when they include that sort of stuff (so the Soul Calibur games).
Conflicted though, would want to play it at launch but these big name Triple-A games are ridiculously overpriced. Comparing it to all the other digital games I buy where I'm getting stuff for like 20 bongbucks at most. Wonder how long it would be before it went on a good discount.
>>424717 >This is a... ridiculously fancy trailer for a game like Vampire Survivors, which barely even has the excuse of a plot https://deadline.com/2023/04/vampire-survivors-video-game-animated-television-series-story-kitchen-luca-galante-poncle-trailer-1235340337/
Mortal Kombat 11 trailer dropped, and the guest character lineup includes: - Peacemaker - Homelander - Omni-Man ... and a Jean-Claude Van Damme alternate skin.
>>424816 Yeah, they used to do stuff like that for many major properties, I still have a ducktales one.
Cameo characters in fighting games have become such an obnoxious gimmick after all this time. Like a bad example of the ones chosen not fitting the game/setting they were forced into was Star Wars being pushed into Soul Calibur.
The countries blocking Microsoft from buying Activision-Blizzard should propose a counter offer where they get to buy Activision and King, but only if they agree to spin Blizzard back off into its own company not owned by anyone left at Activision.
>>424926 Blizzard needs burnt to the ground and the heads of all its upper management mounted on bikes over the ruins.
Overwatch 2 announced another gay character or two to try and distract from scumbag shit they do in the company, is it even an effective tactic anymore when people are actively aware of what you're doing, and repeatedly? If anything at this point its just announcing to the world they've committed another sin to cover up.
>>424948 >How so? You have to roll up roses on one of 2-3 small sandbox levels where the roses continuously respawn. It saves your progress every time you exit the level, the goal to complete the level is one million roses. You basically have to grind it for forever.
This is unusual https://www.pcgamesn.com/half-life/remake-roguelike
The title of the article being- >Half-Life remade as a roguelike, approved by Valve, and playable now Not tried it, but the fact Valve supports the fangame is nice, compared to how some other companies react...
Its not even like dlc where you buy it and own it. You have to pay for the right to access it, you then need to spend alot of time grinding out... but its ALSO time-limited so if you don't manage it in time you miss out on the content. Also the content itself is limited-time bullshit in terms of availability which is another concept I hate.
People streaming out to preorder Starfield, the next Skyrim but in space. Have some interest but would never buy that shit at launch, not when they are still using the same ancient poorly duct-taped together engine they've been using for all their games. Would have to be after a dozen hundred patches and when its on a big sale.
"MEGA MAN X DiVE Offline" Announcement Trailer Megaman X Dive the MM gacha platformer is now being released as an offline game. Actually a pretty interesting move, there's some interesting stuff in there that would be worth just playing as a normal video game. Obviously it will lack some of the event/collaboration content the gacha had, due to licensing and whatnot, but still might actually pick it up.
Its not an actual trailer just a proof of concept, they could have any actual low-quality rubbish in mind for the gameplay. But still bizarre a thing to show off, not like they are striking while the iron is hot.
Shantae Risky Revolution (the unfinished Gameboy Advance version) is going to be finished and released, on a physical cartridge even. Getting a cart release alone is pretty fucking cool, but it's more interesting that they are going back and releasing an unfinished title. I wish this would create a precedent.
>>425170 Such a strange set of circumstances, like I've seen indie people make retro games and release them on actual NES cartridge but not something like a company going back and finishing an unreleased game to then give it an old-console physical release before.
>>425227 >Fucking A button on my fucking controller fucking broke, fuck.
It's usually just the rubber membrane under the button that wears out, you can order replacements for those for peanuts, and then replace them for yourself. The only issue is that some modern gamepads are ridiculously over engineered and taking them apart is a chore. At least with the Xbox One controllers.
>What controller do people use for their PC gaming? I use a Series X controller with the round d-pad. Heard it suffers from drifting but I rarely use the analog so that's not a problem for now, and I already had to replace the membranes once.
>>425260 Fighter coins seem too expensive to buy stuff with. But getting a version of the TMNT song sung by Luke for free is worth this being a thing at all.
Honestly Bayonetta has ALOT more wrong with it and the quality of its writing than Bayo being straight, things far more blatantly retarded than anything to do with shipping.
Viola as a whole was a wasted character, jobber and a shit attempt at making a 'Nero'.
>>425595 Yeah but to be honest, Sega also has a long history of not understanding its own IPs and horrible fucking up sequels. GA and SOR look nothing like their old games gameplay wise, just generic 3d brawlers using the same characters. Jet Set Radio already got a spiritual sequel released from another company this year. For Crazy Taxi, the gameplay already got maxed by the first three games, not sure what else you can add to it. And all of them seem to have this horrible ugly 3d shiny shading.
Shinobi looks pretty dope though.
Also for every new game they do, they have a dozen other IPs aching for a sequel. Virtua Fighter, Eternal Champions, Vectorman, Ristar, just from the top of my head.
Capcom are going around adding DRM to their old games because they are so obsessed with cosmetics gouging they don't want anyone to bypass paying for it.
Palworld is making some ridiculous sales numbers, even despite only just coming out in early access. https://twitter.com/Palworld_EN/status/1749674695560208888
Technically its less like Pokemon with Guns and more like ARK but with the dinosaurs replaced with pokemon. Not the biggest fan of survival games but thinking of picking it up myself in the future.

This is so sad, 55 isn't even all that old and the new games release date is only a couple of months from now. He didn't even live to see the peoples reaction to it.
There's just nothing worth buying in the Steam spring sale this time, kind of pissing me off. Logically its because any good deals for games I'd want to play are things I've already bought in the past but still...
Palworld | New Pals Announcement Palworld is getting new Pals. Also new guns, which was to be expected since you saw certain enemy factions using flamethrowers and energy blasters.
It sucks when giant shitbag companies try to step-in and ruin passion-project fangames. Its good to see them still get released even if it has to resort to retooling it into a 'legally distinct' version.
>>426034 I imagine quality 2d animation takes a while to make, and Metal Slug is kind of the holy grail of good 2d animation. You can't really half-ass the job of bringing it into a new genre.
>>426046 shit, it got a demo? I'm checking it now.
my one problem is that I got spoiled by Disgaea, so I compare every srpg game to that, I know a Metal Slug game won't allow you to level up 180000 times but I'm just hoping it'll leave you with ample room to boost your shit.
>>426048 Metal Slug Attack is more of a tower defense game, where both the player and the computer are spamming units from their own side of the battlefield to walk themselves over and destroy the enemy base.
Metal Slug Tactics on the other hand is on the Tactical/Puzzle style of game compared to the grind autism that is Disgaea.
>>426050 Sorry, meant to quote the other guy, I'm playing MS Tactics Demo. And yeah, it's VERY puzzle heavy. I'm not sure I like it, but it's extremely overwhelming on the first go. It emphasizes separate unit abilities to "chain" and high mobility to give you extra defense. You also can't cheese team attacks by cancelling movements. The music is meh, the artwork is manga junk instead of pic related (you can see the classic select faces in only one place, in a 8x8 icon), the controls are keyboard + mouse only, and the sprite work is... it's pretty decent actually, but not up to the standard of the classic games. Let's say, if the classic games have 10/10 sprite animation, then MS Tactics is maybe 7/10. It's decent but only half as smooth as the original ones and every character makes bouncy bouncy poses and movements.
>>425983 I kind of hate the second year of dlc characters. Its 4 characters only across an entire year... and as well as bringing Bison back two of the them are fucking crossover fighters from SNK. Would have rather preferred Mayor Cody and Maki honestly.
