Oh! Before it slips my mind: The "Fire Pro Wrestling" franchise is finally getting a new entry with "Fire Pro Wrestling World", due out sometime this year for the PlayStation 4 and (thank you gaming gods) PC by way of Steam. And yes, it will get a North American release (it is already listed on Steam and will be in the Early Access program).
Everything known about it right now suggests that it will be "Fire Pro Wrestling Returns" on steroids; director Tomoyuki Matsumoto said he considers "Returns" to be the pinnacle of the franchise, and he wants to build on its base. The game will add a bunch of moves innovated in the years since that game's original release; Kenny Omega's "One-Winged Angel" is already confirmed. Edits — "Create-a-Wrestlers" to those unfamiliar with the series — will now have editable layers, and they will have four different costume slots (a vast improvement over the one costume they could have in "Returns"). Devs have also suggested that the only limit to however many Edits someone can have now will be limited only by hard drive space; that would be good, too, because the game will only ship with 30 original characters. (The devs can no longer get away with the copyright-skirting they did up through "Returns".)
"World" will also feature online play for up to four players, with the devs reportedly trying to boost that number up to six. And the final PC version of the game will, according to its Steam listing, have "more robust editing tools and additional game modes/match options". So it looks like we will finally have a new pro wrestling game that DOESN'T FUCKING SUCK. And on PC, too!
If at the upcoming E3 there is no Beyond Good & Evil 2 reveal, I will seriously consider if Michel Ancel has a deep fear that he will never make a successful followup.
The game lets you play as either a counselor or Jason. As a counselor, your goal is to escape — which can be done by calling the police or fixing a car so you (and possibly other counselors) can haul ass out of camp. (Those are the two methods of escape that I have seen.) As Jason, your goal is to kill all the counselors.
If you are a counselor and you collect a certain item during gameplay, you can be killed by Jason and have a chance of returning to gameplay as Tommy Jarvis, who enters the game with a (one-shot-only) shotgun.
This is site is where I pulled the pic from. Now I'm thinking it MIGHT be a unfinished model we're looking at here. Because compared to the other Jasons, yeah, it doesn't look good. I missed the Pax East panel they had. It dose look like Jason IN Hell after Jason went to hell. Any more deterioration on him though and we'll be getting Skelton Jason.
>>201772 Some people will just have to bite the bullet and play as the unstoppable killing machine.
>That doesn't really make me think 'Jason'. It is reportedly Savini's vision of what Jason would look like after being dragged to Hell at the end of "Jason Goes to Hell". The full-mask look bears this out a little better.
>Hey, are they gonna end up including cyborg Jason from the sci-fi movie as well? From what I understand, "Jason X" is off-limits due to licensing issues, so Uber-Jason will not be showing up.
Here's part 9 Jason and shit, his mask IS is face at this point. Though I don't remember him removing his mask in the movie...for the parts he was in. Here's the site where I got the pic:
>I don't remember him removing his mask in the movie
Even if the filmmakers did not have some sort of makeup for Jason’s unmasked face, they did have concept art or at least some kind of reference. The devs may have used that.
Good: Cool to see five of Capcom’s best non-“Mega Man” NES games collected like this (and also “TaleSpin” I guess); the behind-the-scenes stuff looks legitimately interesting; dat 8-bit remix of the “Disney Afternoon” theme
Not-So-Good: Not too sure about that “Rewind” feature; no release on the Switch
>>201793 Its a shame really as it looked to be shaping up to be the Star Trek game everyone kept asking for but never got.
But then Bioware just fucks up the graphics right in the home stretch.
I'll bet money the loss of fidelity being blamed on a engine switch. Since that did that with the Arkham games in their Return update and they went to shit.
Is the rest of it alright though? Not that people would pay attention to that since the series is now more well known for being a visual novel with shooty bits in between the parts where you fuck aliens.
Combat is better than it has been in the past so its been said. Companions are the usual mixed bag of okay to BFF that you'll want to bring on every trip. They've said to have really stepped up the interplay between companions in this one along with NPC interactions.
So yea you can tell what they put more time in than the other bits. Just wish that other bit wasn't so glaring.
>>201797 I've only seen it and I will say it does look rather slow paced combat wise.
Also a note to the Mass Effect talks they switched from Unreal Engine to the DICE Frostbite engine. Which explains why a lot of the stuff looks like shit when being compared to older games. A game built for bland FPS isn't built for space cinematic immersion.
Also a stupid move when Unreal 4 could have made that game gorgeous and they wouldn't be so inept in programming with a new engine from scratch.
Congrats EA Your narrow mind has fucked you again. Course these are the idiots that expect game Devs to give them "Elevator Pitches" so the adage "Any press is good press is something they probably buy into."
In case you haven't tried it yet or haven't played in quite a while and maybe even missed the addition of the fourth act, Path of Exile is currently having its craziest league yet. With stones you can equip and combine to add the aspects and gimmicks of all previous leagues to all areas you load into. It's a ton of fun.
>>201807 > >Every other game scored 90s > >Andromeda gets solid 70s
The thing is, I would expect this to be true regardless of the actual quality of the game because nerds still resent ME3 and want to hurt the people who "betrayed them" rather than actually give real numbers. Which is not to say that this is a good game in any way, just that nerds are too emotionally immature to depend upon for useful information about this sort of thing.
>>201809 >The thing is, I would expect this to be true regardless of the actual quality of the game because nerds still resent ME3 Hot tip: the press is not /v/.
The overall opnion isn't being judged against their prior game. Its just that the game itself feels unfinshed/unpolished. Which they find inexcusable for something that has been in development for five years.
Tough since this isn't Bioware Austin but their Montreal studio (which handled the MP pieces of ME3 and Inquisition.) and they lost about half their senior dev team about halfway through the development cycle back in 2014 along with other studio heads. Its not an excuse by any sort of measure its just noting many of the reasons I'm seeing crop up.
Overall the more people talk about it the more it feels to me like the Suicide Squad of the Mass Effect series. Passable enough to be called a success while really not being what people wanted.
>>201812 Right, there's a conspiracy against because them dudebro video game nerds amirite? Calm down, you sound like Polygon on a bad day, and I'm one of the people who's willing to defend them when people freak out about "dem ESS JAY DUBBLEYOUS".
It should be telling that one of the first things the developers responded to when it came to complaints was the lack of viable romance options for gay males, because the series is now basically a visual novel/dating sim first, shooty bangbang comes second. And stuff like graphics, voice acting animation, and writing matters more because of that.
I don't think it's the "butthurt ME3 nerds" who are complaining about the game's bullshit double standards when it comes to heteros and lesbians getting a full spread of romance options while icky gay men have to dig around for scraps or the absolutely abysmal writing on the token trans character after DA:I did so well with Krem, for instance. Because that shit is genuinely laughable.
>>201813 >Right, there's a conspiracy against because them dudebro video game nerds amirite? It's not a conspiracy. It's just human nature. It's not like anyone's colluding with anyone else over this--I just don't trust nerds' opinions because I don't trust them to be capable of rational thought about things they get passionate about.
>>201816 Oh, no, I am. That's why I know how terrible nerds are. We think we're smart but we're, generally speaking, as dumb or dumber than everyone else. And we think that we're rational, but we're even more driven by emotion and petty squabbles than the typical person.
Which is why I don't trust reviews from nerds. If there were actual critics among the "video gaming press," sure, but there, generally speaking, aren't--there are just nerds who play a bunch of games and say what they like and don't. Critical theory is utterly lambasted any time it actually shows up in nerd circles because it tends to go against the "common wisdom" of nerds who are no more likely to be able to see anything deeper than the most rude tangibles of a work that they experience, and therefore no more likely to be able to actually figure out universal elements of artistry.
There's nothing nerds hate more than someone who doesn't join in the circlejerk.
>>201817 Holy shit, did you just hit puberty? You sound exactly like an edgy Sargon-wannabe, just replace "SJWs" with "nerds" and all their "facts and logic" talk with buzzwords from the opposite side of the political spectrum.
So a former ME Animator chalks it all up to underestimating the amount of time they needed to complete the tuning of all the faces and their algorithm wasn't up to the task alone.
I'd put money that Obsidian would have been able to whip something up had they been brought on.
Standard Bioware problem. Compartmentalized writing teams and the fact it was a new team from the studio that had only worked on the MP parts of games up till then.
Speaking about stupid additions to Mass Effect, Omni-blades. Shit was dumb as hell, the setting did not need a glowly snowflake melee weapon, the only melee attack you need in a high-tech tactical sci-fi environment is a rifle-butt or possibly some kind of bayonet.
2BF Matt talked about this game two years ago when it was just a kickstarter project. 5 Teens VS one slasher, all in first person. I don't know if this will compete with the Friday the 13th game(be released at the same time), but it might give it a run for it's money. It seems more Dead by Daylight-ish, so that it wont compete per-say, but offer a game experience and might be worth owning both. At the same time even. demo: //youtube.com/watch?v=skZS-fviHBI
> and arena types. Yes, with new killers and survivors...as paid DLC except for Bill from Left 4 Dead. He's free and this is possibly cannon because apparently Bill is a multiverse traviler after he "died" in L4D. I am ok with this.
"This is your last chance to get your orders in for any add-ons you may be looking to pick up, like the Exclusive Limited Tom Savini designed Jason DLC, the Counselor Clothing Pack, the Official Physical Art Book or the CD Soundtrack from Harry Manfredini, and more."
If you want to pre-order on the BackerKit, better do it now.
>>201870 It's weird, they handled Maevaris (inconsistent model aside) and Krem really well and made them well-thought out, interesting characters then they utterly dropped the ball here.
>>201874 Its Bioware they have an annoying compartmentilzed writing style. So we'll get some great missions and Great NPCs next to one or two that are kinda Meh.
Also its funny to hear about the lack of Gay Romances in Andromeda since it was the Ladies that Bioware skiped on back when they wrote all those parts for TOR
Dude YongYea covering the whole "face is tired" scene. He'll do a more in depth look at the changes later. But Damn see what that extra bit of effort does. We've got actual characters interacting and one actually seems upset.
>die before getting a chance to save NieR: Automata I'd normally be pissed at having to go through like twenty minutes of tutorials and what are effectively cutscenes that can't be skipped, but seeing the credits roll by in two seconds for the first time is such a strong bit that I thought it was worth it.
Details so far. Takes place in Seoul (post Gat out of Hell) Three person Squad based open world. Its "G.I. Joe versus Cobra Megafight 2020" as per their description of what they were going for before going into production.
Yea it happens post Gat out of Hell. Earth is reincarnated with Saints in charge of Ultor and such. To note the "Three Person Squad" is straight up like G.I. Joe on NES where you hot swap between three members each with their own abilities and weapons.
>>201910 Morgana is a magic cat you can take with you absolutely everywhere who gives out positive reinforcement and valuable life lessons, of course he's great.
The full Tom Savini-designed Jason Voorhees is revealed. Used in play no less. Think movie while watching this, it helps. Also, Savini is a fucking scary looking dude.
>>201918 Hm, no. Haru's hair IS delightfully fluffy, but I'm at the point where I mentally file the team girls as kids rather than peers. And in fact the idea of dating Futaba outright skeeves me the fuck out.
MvC:I gets its first Story Mode trailer. The game’s big bad is confirmed to be Ultron Sigma. Also confirmed as playable characters: Ultron, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, Chun-Li, Strider Hiryu, and Chris Redfield.
>>201919 Similar. It's weird, I can't really imagine myself dating most of the girls here aside from Makoto/Ann because they either feel too young or because teacher/student type relations skeeve me out.
>>201926 My problem with Kawakami isn't even the teacher angle (although it sharing space with Kamoshida is...) so much as I can't stand the maid gimmick. Really useful though.
Even if I were to separate myself from Larry Bird Jr, him dating Futaba would still be creepy because her mental development has been so warped and she clearly wasn't neurotypical to start with. She treats him like a big brother and he's basically her therapist, it's just gross from every angle.
>>201922 I brushed it off when I first heard about the direction they were going in with this game's story, but this trailer managed to win me over, that bit of character interaction right at the end was hilarious.
The villain actually seems pretty cool, including their design.
Hollow Knight is fucking incredible. Goddamn. It's a shame it came out during the Great Gameflood of 2017. I bet it could've gotten way more attention when released at some other point.
So, prey is out, it has two memorable things, the Gloo Cannon and Recycler grenades. The powers are disappointingly less interesting variations of Plasmids from Bioshock (Plasmids despite being generic magic spells had incredibly interesting body horror elements to their visual design.)
It runs well.
The story is surprisingly long and the characters themselves are interesting but outside of a fun DnD based side quest, it does nothing to merit praise or derision. Upon completion, the game is without the heart and sincerity that so deeply defined it's fore-bearer.
In a game that is a spiritual sequel to something so creative as to have the ripped off limbs of a crab monster used as grenades to find out that the complete list of weapons is 9mm pistol, shot gun, The Gloo Cannon, a stun gun and a generic laser.....I find myself playing the Turok 2 HD remaster seconds after finishing Prey 2017 and having much more fun.
It lands a wet drip amongst the other amazing games that have come out this year and it saddens me to say this, it does not surpass the original Prey in creativity, visual design, mechanics or level design.
In particular visual design is the weakest element of the games by a country mile. Much like the weapons, they did two cool things and left the rest bland and unmemorable.
One is the design of Telos itself, with it's golden opulence cutting a sharp contrast against space. The other being the "coral" but once you realize how visually limited the "coral"is, it even it becomes nothing more than a nuisance.
The enemies, the mimics are nothing more than Nier's shades without the interesting twist.
In all things Prey ends up being a Frankenstien's monster of other games, having no unique qualities or aspects, thus it doesn't really matter if you play it or don't because you won't be missing anything.
TL:DR Jack of all trades master of none, ask for the original Prey to get an HD Remaster.
>>201950 Also hilariously, you can see your reflection in Prey 2006 on board the ultrabiological dirty alien ship, but in the 2017 super new Prey set on board a lavish and ritzy-y ship you can't see your reflection because of the dirt or, you just aren't there in the mirrors. Prey 2017 only pretends you can look in the mirror when you select your gender at the start.
>>201949 Or just hope they Revive the sequel as some kinda new IP. Really hunting down alien criminals in an alien world sounded awesome.
Also to note that I heard they were going with a stylized look for the game some kinda alter 60s design. But from the video footage (because PCs can't have a demo since their last led to the cracking of the "uncrackable" DRM which has since become less and less an obstacle and more of a joke) I've not seen anything that reminds me of things like Alien Isolation or Event 0 both of which also had Retro styling the latter going back to the 60s itself for a lot of it. Which looked really cool and felt correctly futuristic but also dated.
>>201951 That seems to be one of the lost magics of past gens in faking or using older techniques to mimic or fake reflections. Since to actually do that it would need a Ray Tracing Engine Nvidia developed OptiX for such things but really developers don't bother since they don't thing its important so they fake reflective surfaces.
>>201955 >You and I both know Bethesda is more cynical than that. > >It occupies a nebulous area between spiritual sequel and franchise reboot. To System Shock, not so much Prey.
Bethesda is indeed cynical, which is why they snapped up the trademark: because it's very strong branding, and it's not like Prey 2 was ever, EVER coming out.
And here is his move list: https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2017/may/08/eds-special-moves-utilize-simple-inputs-street-fighter-5-performed-button-presses-instead-traditional-motions/
>>201968 Doubtless, but your love of b-grade shit is known. On any actual measure, Prey is an excellent game where the Xbox title is merely Turok with the Strogg, which would be utterly without worth mentioning we're it not for the portals before Portal and the super fucking true to life intro in the Res bar
So Bioware Montreal is being made a Support Studio and will no longer helm any franchisees. To that end all the Bioware IPs are delayed as they shift things around and Mass Effect series is now on ice.
But EA won't say they fucked up letting the B team lead one of their top franchises.
So Prey this gen has come out as a decent System Shock type game. Only watching LPs but it and Surge which itself appears to a fantastic Sci-Fi Souls game are both on the list to buy whenever they come around for a sale.
Well people just played Outlast 2 and really after the islands and a mountain paradise. The backwoods of America not really anything amazing you can showcase.
>>202003 There is a huge emphasis on character creation and vehicle customization.
There is also a rumor that a deranged billionaire has a private hunting reserverse the cultist have broken into, releasing various non-indigenous animals into the wild.
>>202004 Also the full game co-op mode they seem to be very proud of.
Also sounds like they are going back to FarCry 2 in a way. Which is a shame since I loved seeing characters getting their shit wrecked mentally and physically and their decent into becoming a killer.
>There is also a rumor that a deranged billionaire has a private hunting reserve the cultist have broken into, releasing various non-indigenous animals into the wild.
So will they end up making the head of this cult accidentally likeable like they did Pagan Min? Who I really wish had an option to go strafe those two lunatics at the bottom of the mountain before he leaves.
Or this one likely be calling you The Antichrist over the radio and screaming for his followers to kill the heretic.
So will they end up making the head of this cult accidentally likeable like they did Pagan Min? Who I really wish had an option to go strafe those two lunatics at the bottom of the mountain before he leaves.

I cannot think of a reason why the idea of “a group of White anti-government militants take over and subjugate a small town using violence” could be relevant to the current political climate. The United States does not have small towns, anti-government militants, or White people.
>>202018 They aren't all white, just the family in charge of the group.
>>202019 >>202015 The allied NPCs in this game all seem like sympathetic rural Americans defending their homes and old-fashioned values through the power of the second amendment.
Also the reason the government isn't here taking action against a militia overthrowing a county on their own soil is because the country is currently being struck by some sort of apocalypse?
Seems like a good setup for a doomsday cult taking over a region. Also given the size of areas it would be a massive misstep not to include a Reservation and its law enforcement having to handle this idiots harassing them.
>>202021 >Also given the size of areas it would be a massive misstep not to include a Reservation and its law enforcement having to handle this idiots harassing them. There's PC Gamer article by a guy from Montana who spoke with some of the Ubisoft dev.
His primary concern was that the local culture would end up as "generic rural American" instead recognizably local, including that Ubisoft seemingly didn't realize how large the Native American community was.
A put upon reservation sheriff having to deal with his own issues within the community. Alcoholism is usually a big concern in Native American reservations.
Maybe help the sheriff defuse some angry young jackass that wants to start his own war.
So I knew that Denuvo did a "handshake" at the start of a program. Didn't know it kept doing it all through a game to the point of stressing components.
Reservations have a not-nearly-publicly-known-enough issue where, outside of a few crimes, tribal police are not allowed to enforce the law on those coming in from outside the disxtrict. For example, it was only in... 2014 I think? that it became law that res police can grab outside rapists.
I'm so fucking sick of seeing games where you play as a vampire, or even 'Vampyr'.
Vamps are lame as hell and incredibly played out, just let me play a game as a guy who walks around and punches vampires in the face by the bucketload.
I got to play the new Battletech video game thats in beta. It's pretty good. Definitely needs more 'mechs, maps, customization and a campaign, but that's expected of betas. The base system, style and graphics are a good base to build on.
I am also happy that they kept the feel of the boardgame without being bogged down in keeping it a 1:1 conversion.
I'm trying to wean my brother off of these shitty early access survival games, but nothing is working. He's severely addicted to that trash and I just don't understand why.
>>202062 Aside from the ultra-detailed approach to looks, which I wish would fucking go away. I have faith in Michel as a game director and storyteller.
Sony General was created, but the site ate it up (temporarily). Mildly impressed by their presentation so far. Some unexpected games, but still not Jak or Sly (for now).
>>202037 Honestly, I loved the older games. Of course, the playstation game was one of the worst games I've ever played, but I'm even feeling nostalgic for that nowadays.
You know, I hate to sorta agree with some of the shadier parts of the gaming community, but being a minority/POC/whatever myself, the whole MULTICULTURAL AND MULTIETHNIC bit during the Beyong Good & Evil 2 presentation got in my nerves. I am obviously all for diversity, but this is starting to reek of objectification and exploitation for commercial purposes. Instead the diversity being there because it's fucking natural that people of all types should be represented, I feel it's becoming another marketing selling point alongside the usual "best graphics" and "great multiplayer" and such.
>>202082 It wasn't pushed nearly that hard in the original with maybe the garage being an exception but even that's a stretch. I just think it kinda sucks that we get two teasers of Jade and Pey'j over the decades and now it turns out what they are actually making is now a prequel.
So we'll have a delay in learning more about the resistance about The Doms Jades connection to ridding the universe of the evil.
Kinda like out Deus Ex got all caught up in itself adding to the lore and now we've got three games planned after the recent one mean to fill in the gaps.

>>202077 The "2 very different protagonists" who joined a "ragtag band of multi-species misfits" to "fight for freedom against oppressors" is exactly like the first game. However, since EVERYONE IS TRYING TO BE POLITICAL TO LOOK SMART, people have to say those things in interviews to look good. Sometimes without realizing it.
I never tried to see fiction as a perfect reflection of reality (the appeal of fiction should be that it is NOT real), but sometimes it is fashionable to see it as a parallel. Not everything has to be a social commentary, but if you act like your work is a direct parallel to the real world, to "deliver an important message", you will be more respected.
This isn't a perfect explanation, but I already spent 5 minutes thinking before typing (and 5 more during), and not spending 5 hours. To summarize, the game will most likely be fine, Michel and his team are just trying to look good in interviews.
>>202077 It's not great because of how damn cynical it is but honestly it's a big step up from them saying "we swear we wanted to but can't put any black/brown people or women in our things because then nobody would watch or buy it" even when that's factually untrue.
>>202099 >I believe that fiction should be treated as its own thing That's very stupid of you. Fiction is, at minimum, wrapped around a theme or themes that ties/tie back to reality.
The bland realan brown and swearing in BG&E2 is the part that seemed the most shoehorned if you ask me.. It just makes me think of Shadow the Hedgehog's.
Consider this: A parodic Kingdom Hearts style game where instead of Final Fantasy and Disney cartoons, it's Dragon Quest and Disney XD cartoons. Star Butterfly doing her messed up spells everywhere, Right Now Kapow heads showing up as numerous NPCs, enemies, and even items with no explanation, whatever ship building level thing with Pheneas and Ferb, Bill Cipher as an end game boss, and that's not even getting into Dragon Quest or a number of XD cartoons that deserve way more attention than I've been giving.
The crap graphics on “Infinite” gave ArcSys a huge boost in that regard. (Capcom really should look into making a game with a “FighterZ”/“Guilty Gear Xrd” art style. “Darkstalkers”, anyone?) Other than that, I dig how “FighterZ” handles losing a character—everything resets to neutral—because it may interrupt the overall “flow” of a match, but it also keeps the match a little more fair.
>Beyond Good and Evil 2 hasn't even started real development, trailer was just a concept It's just like all the other false starts, fuck. I'm sure it's going to be a good game but I don't think it's going to be a good BG&E sequel/prequel.
>>202114 >>202115 The first one was a teaser with no game promised. The second one was leaked. This time around, they made an official announcement on EeeThree, launched a website, and promised to have already started working on it.
If they "cancel it", the amount of shit they receive will be astronomical, so much shit you could fertilize a desert with it. They cannot AFFORD to cancel it, their entire reputation is at stake.
Image:149759594900.png(741kB, 1278x771)they got a little something at least.png
Well they definitely have some assets created already. It's not much, but at least you can see that they're actually trying to make a game. Are they gonna pull through or is Ubisoft gonna cancel it if not enough people get interested in that weird shitty earliest access program? Nobody knows.
Nice for Take Two/Rockstar to drop this during E3. Already the steam page is getting slammed with negative reviews because now people cannot do the one thing they bought the PC version for. Mod the Single Player.
Heck the guys that worked on OpenIV made certain that it doesn't effect the Online game. Which makes this statement from Rockstar
>"Take-Two's actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody," Rockstar said. "We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players."
Great, I discovered that Dark Souls III has become utterly unplayable on my PC thanks to the fucking Win 10 Anniversary update and nobody has figured out a solution yet. At least I was fortuitous enough to not have bought the DLC yet before at least starting the game up.
>Diablo III talks about the Necromancer "Update" for months. Finally drops it... as a 15 dollar piece of new DLC to pad another version of the game at a new 60 buck price tag.
Well fuck you too Blizzard. Glad I bought the pack when it was on sale with gift cards. But really fuck them for that.
>>202156 Crusader was added and came with a whole new expansion and a whole bunch of added game mechanics that added lots of content to the game. That's worth the price.
One class that only comes with a bunch of cosmetic stuff and that's it. Doesn't really feel as full as the Reaper of Souls Expansion did. Least not 15 bucks full.
>>202158 That and negative reviews. But there is enough nostalgia for the Nercomancer class that it'll do well especially since there are tournaments and stuff and folks will love something new for those rankings. I'm just gonna wait till it drops below ten to bother picking it up.
So took a chance on one of the "loot boxes" from Green Man Gaming and ended up with a 50 buck credit. What's the best thing to get they have right now?
I am past the point in my life in which I can overlook the gross fetish shit in MGQ just for gam- >MGQ Paradox is a suikoden game with a ridiculously in depth FFT jobs system GOD DAMN IT
Dead Cells is fucking mean. Starts beating your ass before you are even out of the first chamber. Then you get about 20 cells (soul) heading off to the reclaim point when some zombie boss bum rushes you off a ledge.
Yep they got the Dark Souls vibe pretty spot on. A good Soulsvania or whatever they want to call such things.
So Bioware got Casey Hudson back on the team. Probably since his departure lead Andromeda turning into a dumpster fire and they are afraid their new IP will do likewise.
Speaking of MvC:I, Capcom confirmed Spider-Man, Mike Haggar, Frank West, and Nemesis for the playable roster. A new stage in which MODOK sits in the background and watches the fight likely deconfirms the giant head as a playable character.
OK what the flying fuck is going on with Dream Daddy and people freaking out and telling each other to kill themselves and and asking to boycott the game because of its association with the Game Grumps who are (apparently) hateful bigots? I'd get it if it had to do with Jontron being a white supremacist piece of shit, but he's a nonfactor as most of the complaints seem to be about the post-Danny era. Also Egoraptor's apologized for some of his iffier comments and tried to be accomodating to fans which doesn't sound like the work of an earnest bigot to me.
>>202202 But we're not talking about the "other side", we're talking about Dream Daddy specifically. If you want and example of someone getting upset about homosexuals in relation to DD there was indeed that hilarious dude that got super pissy when it turned out to be a legit gay daddy dating sim instead of some sort of parody.
Honestly though when you say "the other side" it give the impression of a bad outlook to have in general life, as if everything was "us vs them" split neatly into two camps, when in life humanity is split into numberless untold tribes of stupid and reactionary assholes clawing and lashing out at each other for the tiniest little thing. Indeed perhaps the post in response to this one could accuse me of being a spastic taking things too far by bringing this point into the conversation that was originally only about people getting upset about how Dream Daddy is supposedly a homophobic hatecrime because it was made by straight male internet comedians.
>>202203 When you bring up "Social Justice types" outside of a safe space built specifically to protect you from people whose viewpoints aren't almost identical to your own, you are saying in no uncertain terms 'I would like to start a fight with anyone who isn't as comfortable with the current level (whether they see that level as too high or too low) of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, religious intolerance and related issues in modern society as me, please.'"
>>202205 Many of the people on the staff are LGBT of one variety or another. The issue people seem to be taking with it mostly seems to revolve around the Game Grumps' involvement, though they only appear to be present as voice actors and producers--which is to say, investors. They probably had SOME say over some decisions, but they were likely not heavily involved in the creation.
That's not even getting into the subject of exactly how much of an issue the Game Grumps are (I don't watch whatever it is they do, so I have no opinion personally), but that seems to be the meat of the thing. A lot of people seem to also believe that the furor is mostly being made by people who are still bitter about the game being delayed and grasping for anything to be mad at it for.
So, you know, typical gamer behavior. Things didn't go exactly how they wanted and therefore it's time to throw a hissy fit over it.
Basically it boils down to there being a joke ending where one of the characters secretly turns out to be an evil cult leader, and the people taking offense to this somehow conclude that the game is insinuating that all gay people are secretly evil cult leaders, and that this is the Game Grumps' way of forcing a homophobic agenda down people's throats... even though every other route is lighthearted and treats being gay as no biggie, even though you can't even get the joke ending unless you intentionally hack the game, and even though lots of other BL games beloved on that same site, like Dramatical Murder and Lamento, are way fucking worse about this and regularly feature gruesome murder and rape as part of the main plot, yet I've never seen anyone raise a stink about them.
It's part of the whole "fictitious LGBT content must be 100% clean and wholesome or else it's setting the gay rights movement back 10 years" Social Justice fad sweeping across Tumblr lately. And by Social Justice with capital letters (I'm assuming other anon wrote it like that for similar reasons) I mean certain specific kinds of horribly loud people more concerned with the appearance of being progressive than actually being so, to the point they'll threaten actual victims of rape and domestic abuse for writing fanfiction with dark themes to cope and call them the real threat to society, because think of all the CHILDREN who might be inspired to commit copycat crimes after reading these fics clearly marked 18+ and full of content warning tags specifically to keep that from happening. Also pissing off actual gay people who are tired of being bossed around by dumb teenagers who genuinely seem to believe fanfiction is supposed to act as a manual for how to live your life.
Also there's something about the Game Grumps being involved making the game "queerbaiting". Even though the game completely delivers on the gay dating premise and at no point do you ever get faked out into straight dating anyone. This part I don't get at all.
>>202207 >Basically it boils down to there being a joke ending where one of the characters secretly turns out to be an evil cult leader, It's not even actually in the game, it's dummied out, people just datamined it. Devs literally decided it was in poor taste and axed it.
>>202208 It was specifically for a "Halloween DLC" concept, sort of a Simpsons Halloween Episode thing. But yeah they decided not to go through with it and only the remain of some stuff is in the code.
“Sonic Mania” apparently broke street date in some places and leaks are coming out.
The crew already revealed Stardust Speedway, so I don’t think I’m spoiling anyone when I say that Metal Sonic is the boss fight for that zone’s Act 2. What is a spoiler, however, is the return of the silver Mecha Sonic from “Sonic 2”—albeit in a far less threatening form.
The numbers on the monitor’s “off the air” test pattern match the date of the infamous Sonic anniversary livestream during which Sonic Mania was announced. The low buzzing sound you hear is a direct reference to the omnipresent buzzing that plagued said livestream.
>>202238 It seems like a solid Throwback to the old NES G.I. Joe games in particular with the Hot Swap three person team mechanic.
Also Observer is solid Blade Runner/Inception Cyperpunk greatness. Solid followup from Layers of Fear unlike other successor games like Machine for Pigs and SOMA were to Amnesia.
>>202241 I think saying "no textures" is technically incorrect. If I remember reading about this mod right, they're still texture, but simplified, monochrome ones (which meant making custom ones for the signs).
>Yakuza 2 Kiwami >Yakuza Online >Fist of the North Star in Yakuza engine
Holy shit they're going places. Hopefully they won't get stretched too thin though as that studio is notorious for working on low budgets and short devtimes, but maanging to deliver decent games due to lots of asset recycling.
Honestly I'm kind of tired of First of the North Star in terms of story, its not well-written at all and having to relive it straight so many times just makes that more apparent.
And details like the way everyone who is a good guy and can fight worth a damn is killed off at some point without fail just so Kenshiro can continue to win the day as the hero.
>>202249 Yeah I'm honestly not big fan either. It's aged really horribly compared to stuff like Jojo, but if there's anything the Yakuza series is good at it's being able to mix super serious with super silly. That bit of Kenshiro bartending in a suit gives me hope they'll try something new with this game.
>>202262 I'm glad the actual game's art design is as unique and quirky as the concept art indicates. And it seems like it's still got SWERY's favorite tone juxtaposition of dark main plot and quirky protag who gets into goofy side shit.
>>202264 >I'm glad the actual game's art design is as unique and quirky as the concept art indicates. I mean it's a little hard to tell what the art design actually is considering this is a texture-free alpha
>"games journalist" who has written about games for two decades has problems with basic fucking logical problem-solving in the tutorial section of Cuphead
Polygon can rest easy. The infamous DOOM video has a successor.
>>202271 >Characters will also respond to the player’s gender identification, which includes male, female, and “other.” After choosing one of these options, players can specify if they are cisgender or transgender.
This is all rather amusing, and perhaps the reason for why the game got further pushed back for it to be added.
I wonder if there will be an achievement for completing the game as black transgender/other character.
It it ended there it could possibly be funny. But the way it goes full bore with the notion it reads more like ACTUAL Marvel Comics than a satire or parody.
Since the stereotypical rednecks still fight you no matter what choice you make while talking to Mr Mackey?
Its all simply ridiculous for the sake of being ridiculous.
Wonder if there will be an achievement for completing the game as a black Trans/Other... seems in line with some of the achievements from the first game like playing as a Jew or winning the game while crossdressing.
>>202260 Far as I know it's suspected to have something to do with the SAG-AFTRA strikes. His replacement appears to be Liam O'Brien, who I'm pretty confident is not unionized.
>>202286 ...In public, less than a month after he made a show of how he was going to be more careful about his language because even jokes with no actual ill will behind them are dangerous fodder for actual white supremacists. Nice try edgelord but he's a huge fucking hypocrite and a colossal idiot who's making life harder for other Youtubers because he's essentially the face of a company and known for his popularity with younger children yet he can't show any self-control for even a second.
>>202284 that's a rather stupid form of protest and likely has severely damaged their brand putting them in the company of other asshole devs that abuse the system. Folks are gonna back away from featuring their game if they at some point retroactively decide you need to be punished.
Shame really Firewatch was a kinda neat game for a walking sim.
Those were clearly jokes, and also made in a case of "it's funny because racism is bad, otherwise we wouldn't say it". Pewdiepie was just yelling "wow what a fucking nigger (because hurr 'niggers' are bad)" and it's telling that the thing he caught himself on wasn't that he shouldn't say that because "hey it's a bad thing to call people ethnic slurs like" but "hey I shouldn't say that while on a livestream". Like he does it all the time in private. And while he's already in hot water because of people concerned he's a racist. He doesn't even have the excuse of claiming it was satire or a joke like that other time. I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt and generally letting people say whatever, fuck I was also willing to defend JonTronazi early on, but at this point I have none left for Pewds.
Still don't agree with what Campo Santo is doing, but definitely not because I'm one of the shitheads going "oh no poor Pewdiepie is under attack by the eeeevil SJWs!!!!!"
>he's a huge fucking hypocrite and a colossal idiot who's making life harder for other Youtubers
Yeah, all the shit going on with advertisers pulling out from YouTube or de-listing certain kinds of videos by saying “don’t show our ads on this shit” is partially the fault of PewDiePie and his bullshit. He has made it that much harder for every non-shithead YouTube personality to make money from the site. While I am all for moving away from YouTube as “the one true video site on the Internet”, those who are still there deserve as much of a chance as possible to monetize their work. In short: Fuck PDP for helping to harm creators on YouTube.
>>202298 The armor system literally negates what made the first game great. All the enviromental stuff gets straight-up ignored by enemies until you get through their armor and all the non-thowaway enemies have their armor stats bloated to fucking shit. It basically turns a great WRPG combat system into a generic JRPG combat system where every enemy that matters is immune to every single status effect and is just a dull DPS race.
I watched a fair bit of Dragon Ball FighterZ via streams of the closed beta that went on this past weekend. Holy shit, that game is gonna be so fucking hype at EVO.
>>202296 I kinda take back what I said here after kinda calming down from my initial "they changed it so it sucks!" attitude. The combat and stat system is still very dumbed down in comparison to the previous game (which I know could even be a positive to some), but the improvements in writing, world-building and actual roleplaying opportunities make up for it. It's a really good game if you're not looking for strategic depth but rather a great world to explore full of little very memorable moments.
>>202311 >The combat and stat system is still very dumbed down in comparison to the previous game (which I know could even be a positive to some) Seems developers are still taking the dumb down approach for video games for the rational liberal
