Speaking of the Dinosaur Planet series project, here is something new: http://dinoplanetfanseries.tumblr.com/post/150139193818/a-little-treat-for-you-all-our-new-composer
New systems are upscale not 4k native from last round of conversations of those getting into the new dev kits.
So the newest line I've heard "Well at least now we'll be getting 60fps HD(1080p)"
How many years behind are consoles on that?
I know next year they'll be rolling out 1440p monitors and laptop screens as a regular higher end thing. Since everyone has just about given up on the idea of jumping straight from 1080 for 4k (2160p) even with this new gen of Graphics cards from what I've been hearing and reading.
>>201077 It's the only thing they can care about. More computation intensive stuff like physics and AI routines will stay bare bones until the consoles can actually start focusing on those, too. Which they're not anywhere close to, since they're like a decade behind in power and still struggle just to make games run smoothly while having slightly prettier graphics than they had in 2009.
>>201077 I'd not say graphics per se its more about the smoothness of the experience. I could care less about ultra HD textures as long as it played at an even framerate and didn't hiccup when changing environments and entering combat.
>>201080 Does framerate even count as graphics? What you see in front of your eyes is the easiest readout, but video games are a visual medium to begin with. Bad or choppy framerate due to bad optimization/computers leads directly to bad gameplay more than having bad graphics does.
>>201080 Pretty much ever PC maven is like "I'd rather have low settings if it means butter smooth FPS than the most beautiful slideshow". The thing with PC gaming is how you shouldn't have to make that choice anymore if you have a powerful enough setup.
>>201081 Very true. Most games aren't properly optimized to use more than two processing threads let alone the eight or more you find on higher end setups and that isn't even going into their inability to handle SLI (Nvidia dropped support for three and four card rigs with the 1000 series) even now two decades after this first introduction Or higher memory capacities of cards and ram.
Recent best optimized (programmed) game I've seen was New Doom. The game would split the load across all threads evenly and not concentrate on just the first one or two causing a laggy bottleneck.
Worst would be Arkham Knight, thought I've heard it had been made at least playable with the last of the patches.
>>201093 Yea that's it. The Playstation Robot game.
Are we going to get into the habit of each putting out Similar Games on competitive consoles again.
Xbone will have Tomb Raider which from what I've gleamed they've abandoned the original trilogy writing and are now going to Nathan Drake this franchise anew.
And PlayStation will have whatever NaughtyDog will come up with after Uncharted or reboot it or just turn Last of Us into that.
Looking over things in games like Deus Ex now in the age of Telltale and their games with "choices" Man do a lot of games ring hollow when you actually look at how they handle the idea that "You decisions shape the game world".
Though I will say the Telltale Batman series so far feels a bit better in that department than some of their previous titles. Doesn't stand out as much as older titles.
So in the path that Deus Ex is taking to become a James Bond Spy game. Will the Illuminati be outed at some point their massive Volcano and or moon base be destroyed and Adam Jensen fly off to shag Malik for a few days?
I mean I'm really liking the build up its going with establishing them as pretty much the SPECTRE of their world and Jensen and whatever band of misfits he can get in touch with going after them.
I just want a solid ending after the next two chapters (since HD was the first of a three part series) and the timeline diverges. Because Invisible War is a terrible way to end all of this. replyreportdelete
>>201108 Hello Tiki, 5 months behind on the news as always? Great, here's the important parts of what you've missed: Both forms of Zodd are in, and the more you kill the more bloody your combo attacks get, as shown in his forms. //youtube.com/watch?v=Z-PX8aCursI
I'm too lazy to pull the video, but Berserk Armour Guts is literally just Artorias movesetwise, appropriately enough.
For some reason, Wyald, the absolute worst part of all of Berserk, is playable by default, but not Irvine, Rakshas, or Locus. Grunbeld I believe has been confirmed for DLC.
>>201114 Now when I saw crystal zombies, I was like "What a brilliant idea for a stealth game, you'll have to use smashing force to kill them which will make breaking sounds and compromise your stealth."
MG Survive doesn't... actually look that bad. It's DLC-priced, got new gameplay features on top of the super solid mechanics of MGSV, and seems like a fun time with friends.
Wasted potential? Sure. But we weren't ever gonna get a solid follow up to the MG franchise without Hideo. I'm not too broken up about it. Mainly because this seems better than just pachinko. I resigned myself to never having MGS again so this just seems better than the course let me anticipate.
>>201116 Yea, but given the whole idea of Wormholes from other dimensions Kojima would have assembled a crew of slightly altered bosses from games past to be your companions or something. All we get now are faceless mooks.
I was of the opinion right from his departure that I'd be fine with more Metal Gear just so long as we didn't get more Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear Survive looks kind of like trash though.
>>201127 Guess I'm just now finding it strange the amount of "Hey lets get the userbase to do our jobs for us." That's been coming about in recent years.
One part greed, one part laziness and then another part liability dodge.
Though I don't know how solid that last one will be since these "Heroes" will have greater access to YouTube Admin then the people who make the content.
>>201128 >One part greed, one part laziness and then another part liability dodge. > There's also a psychological aspect to it. When the userbase is responsible for something, they become more invested in it--it's why, for example, video games that allow user-created content tend to last way longer as social phenomena than games that don't. Users get invested when they can contribute. Even if that's in purely clerical ways like this--just think of how people want to become mods or admins of forums they post on despite no pay. It's gratifying to be part of the process.
the VR wars have a new player: Milo http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/09/22/palmer-luckey-the-facebook-billionaire-secretly-funding-trump-s-meme-machine.html
/co/ had a nice discussion on the Meme Magic. And why /v/ /mu/ and /pol/ seem to be able to fire it off with some accuracy, and they are pretty shit at it.
>>201137 To elaborate, while Palmer Luckey's contributions to VR are /cog/-related (even if he himself isn't an actual game dev), none of this is about that. It's not even really game-industry related.
Palmer's rebuttal bafflingly included a significant number of bald faced lies which Resnick had the truth documented of, and which he should have KNOWN Resnick had the truth documented of. Maybe Zenimax literally accusing him of being too stupid to have made the Rift has more merit than we thought.
Back to Friday the 13th game. The developers do a cool thing for CharminEX for his contributions and two new counselors announced. Punk will never die.
Unrelated to that game is game where you play a blind woman who uses echolocation to "see". It's 'Gone Home' with survival horror elements and ACTUAL game play. You heat that 'Gone Home'?! Actual game play, not a virtual home/diary tour!
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/116937-ReCore-Review Doesn't sound like the Xbone seller like I heard some people hope it would be.
I know the world's real emotionally charged around politics and stuff right now, but before we all kill each other over how we think others should think I just wanted to quickly say that Shadowverse is fucking amazing. So much better than Hearthstone in every way. There, now you can commence the murder.
That Giant Bomb stream really made me want to watch a supercut of all the Mafia III cutscenes, cause those were dope as fuck. I just can't be arsed with all that cookie cutter open world gameplay to "earn" them myself.
TOO BAD. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location comes out today. Will FNAF fans get the answers they want to numerous long-standing questions? Will the Box be opened? Who shot Officer Barbrady? TUNE IN LATER TODAY TO FIND OUT!
So apparently, in the first of Sister Location’s assumed multiple endings (no one’s figured out the minigames yet), Baby kills you by sending you into the “Scooper”, then takes over your body. Or something like that. In any case, this has some serious implications for the lore…
Jim was upset with Mafia 3's initial 30 frames per second knee capping, an update fix came out while he was uploading the video. He's making a new video and says he's impress 2K actually gives a shit.
"We've done a lot of work trying to capture to feel of the deep south in the 60's, carefully set scenes using heavily curated music and excellent voice acting, framed the whole thing with a novel documentary device, and created a strategic layer that's a cut above the normal open world territory control affair, what do you thin-" "FUCKING 30 FPS AND BLACK PEOPLE"
Love that and the number of things that don't use that Sync alternative put out by the big two. G-Sync or FreeSync. Latter I guess because only PCs get a boost from that which makes things above 40 fps look a lot better and look like they are running 60.
>>201198 Framerate has a big impact on experience when it's, like, 6 FPS instead of 30. Do framerates faster than 20 FPS really have a significant difference in anything other than how they look?
>>201199 >>201198 For character action games, shooters, that kind of twitch gameplay, there's a definite purpose in 30 vs 60 vs whatever. Mafia is a GTA/Sleepy Dawgs deal so from a stable 30 onward it's really just a matter of appearance.
>>201199 With 30fps vs 60fps the latter means a matter of inputs being twice as responsive, I remember it making the difference for QTEs in some games and the like.
Unrelated because Mafia's problem is being locked but games which never drop below 30fps but do have inconsistent framerates have definitely fucked me up before.
>>201205 Doesn't unlimited increase of frame rate also mean unlimited speed increase? Because most of us are not bad enough dudes to play an action game on fast forward.
>>201209 What game was it that was broken at 60 fps because damage was tied to frames, so running at 60 instead of 30 caused you to take twice as much damage?
>>201218 PC is a platform, not a video game. I assume only video games have generals on /vg/. I will admit, I haven't been back on /vg/ in a long, long time.
>>201220 Vita and PS4 have their own generals. I can understand Vita, since it's a pretty niche platform, so any Vita game wouldn't sustain a general by itself. But the PS4 one just seems weird to me.
I can totally see a cheesy F13-themed music video in my head when I hear that. God, the designers chose basically the perfect band to do a song for this game, and the song just works.
Just watched it. Don’t know the full context behind it because I haven’t played the game, but HOLY SHIT that was a hell of a scene, and if (a presumed) Mafia 4 picks up after that, daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
Because I don't have a rig capable of playing anything beyond Undertale and I don’t have a modern gaming console. Did…did you not think maybe I couldn’t actually play the game?
>>201235 I mean I think 1 was really cool for when it came out and 2 has a kinda neat through line despite the rough design, but it's not a series anyone really knows or cares about.
I've already heard that Zero Time Dilemma wasn't going to be as good as the first two games. I haven't gone far enough to tell anything about the story, but BOY did the quality of puzzles take a fucking nosedive. Terrible leaps of logic, awful conveyance and, worst of all, some of the worst fucking cases of pixel hunt I've ever seen.
Sure, I can see why people who bought the vanilla version and then had to buy Ultimate only 9 months later, would be mighty pissed at Capcom. That was indeed a shitty thing to do.
Well the basics from there are Wolverine and Cyclops. Then Deadpool and Cable. If they went with Including FF then that would likely be Ben Grimm, Sue with her shields and Invisibility, Johnny I don't know as he's pretty much a projectile based character and would need a big arena to really shine.
As for Reed, I'd rather scrap him and just use Kamala with some ClayFighter type combo styles since that's more in tune with her character.
IIRC the devs put the Super Skrull in the game precisely because they didn't want the Fantastic Four. The mutants are too popular and iconic to be entirely left out, but I think we wont see as many of them as in past games.
What I really do wonder is, are they going to have the balls to put the newest versions of the characters in the game? Like, have Riri instead of Tony, or Miles instead of Peter?
>>201322 Miles is worthless as his Abilities aren't the same and Riri is way too new to be developed enough. Unless they did a MK style Variant System.
>>201324 Given time and under different writes Miles could be something more than a horribly OP wannabe. Then he might fit well into a Fighting Game Narrative. But right now it would be "Because Peter is Busy."
He'd be as bad as some of the reasons those really obscure Capcom characters end up in the roster.
>>201322 Riri hasn't even been around enough and if Miles shows up he'd be the X23 to Peter's Wolverine. I think they might add Captain Marvel since they're trying to push her really hard. Black Panther and Bucky too since the movies sent their popularity through the roof. Kamala is almost a guarantee and Miss America is also really likely.
>>201327 Who is Miss America actually? I've only seen random pages of this individual where writers attempt to shill her SUPER HARD telling the readers they should think she's so amazing. She doesn't have a very interesting design.
>>201328 Straight up Magical Space Lesbian from the Utopian Parallel (Dimension outside time and space populated by women) . Standard Super power set (Durability, Flight, Strength etc) and the ability to cross between dimensions.
She could have promise but gets that hangup common to LGBTQ characters in that their development stops short around their sexual prefs.
>>201329 Unlike Peter where Should I Bang MJ or Gwen was a completely ignored and not explored storyline. Or Tony where Womanizer is never part of his description.
>>201330 Not that anon but >their development stops short around their sexual prefs. Tony Stark gets storylines about substance addiction, his arrogance, and being a colossal dictatorial asshole. Peter gets storylines about teen angst, money woes, GREAT RESPONSIBILITY and clone bullshit.
Most of what I've read about Miss America doesn't give her much besides being liking girls and also being a generic bad tempered asshole who likes to hit things a lot. It just reminds me of the bad fanfics I used to read in the early 2000s where the mary sue hero's big character flaw is she's quick to violence and beats people up who insult her, but the other characters in the story are like it's OK that's just how she is haha, they probably deserved it anyway and it never really bites her in the ass or anything (not saying MA is actually a proper mary sue, just that her character is badly written like one). She's not very funny, she doesn't have any endearing major insecurities, heck if they made her more lesbian by giving her a long term girlfriend for her to open up around that would've made her way better than how she is right now. They also never actually do anything with her US theme which makes me wonder why anyone even bothered, because the only thing she even has to do with the US is it's part of her name and the colors of her clothes. I guess she lives there too but so do 99% of superheroes in the Marvel universe and they don't call themselves American Squirrel Girl or the Totally Awesome Green Arizonian or anything. I guess one problem is she's from a team book so they don't have room to give her more interesting character traits but still. Basically my point is, Kieron Gillen is way overrated.
Very few times is sexuality handled right or anywhere close to not being shallow as something meant more for the reader or players interest than something that is part of the character.
Obsidian's New Vegas had some good ones with interesting back story to unfulfilled loves and failed ones.
Bioware likes to try a lot and Dragon Age Inquisition was better than most at it by making romantic interest feel a bit more like a relationship than just an achievement to have. But still not as good as making them feel like a full person aside from Sera since she had a list of hangups that would come about depending on how the PC acted.
Bioware is always very uneven in their writing. You can see the seams where all the parts were stitched together.
Witcher has some interesting bits on that meeting a guy whom his lord kicked him out for having an affair with his son. Only actual main game time it came up though was with Ciri. In response to a girl asking if Ciri liked her brother and she can answer she's into girls. Which is accurate, kinda.
Short of it is everything needs better writers closer to Obsidian and CD Projekt latter who may be fighting a hostile takeover attempt.
>>201332 Ugh, Sera was the worst party member. Just an utterly horrible and obnoxious person, she is overwhelmingly petty, immature and hypocritical. There's games where you have teammates that eat children that are less trying to be around.
>>201333 True but she had character and some faults part of that being obnoxious and she could have used some more moments to explain a few things. As said its always a mixed bag with Bioware. Writing just can't get there.
Hence I worry a bit for the new Mass Effect. But it should be okay given its a fresh team with hopefully a better writing structure.
I've played it on console about a year ago and been remembering Diablo 3 as a fairly decent game, but goddamn every time I see it these days I can't help but be shocked at how fucking ugly it is over and over again.
>>201337 One of the many reasons I opted to get the disk version of Witcher 3 GOTY
1. Its all on Disk (aside from the most recent patches) 2. Its on a disk so I now own it. 3. Backwoods internet so I'd have been waiting a week to fully download the game.
Related to this: Capcom apparently has one more big announcement to make this year, and if Ono’s Twitter is any indication, it’ll do so at the Capcom Cup. Whether it’s Season Two of the SFV DLC or something else, we’ll all have to wait and see.
Anyone else playing Xenoverse 2? The level of bugs still in the PC version (dunno if any of the others are having the same problem) is pretty goddamn ridiculous. I've not been having some of the severe ones I've heard others suffering from but the Expert Missions (which is part of the story mode) are a damn crapshoot you have to keep restarting agin and again while praying it doesn't break down halfway through the fight.
https://twitter.com/trevor8131/status/797156742970961920 Not my tweet but I did retweet it and made me feel a little better. Anyone else suffering this nonsense feel free to retweet it too in the vain hope it gets some attention from BandaiNamco.
I just found my discs of Zoo Tycoon complete edition. So good. I have a hard time planning my zoo in freeform mode and my zoo's consistency tends to go out the roof.
>>201361 I'd buy it if the game had some sort of rph-ish 'story mode' like Killer Instinct has done. Would be fuckin sick, like Capcom X Namco for actual fighting gamers.
>>201362 Something in the vein of the MK9 model would be pretty sweet. SF5 did that too. As long as it doesn't go too far with the Ryu jerking off like Jojo EOH did with Jotaro.
>>201364 Christ I'm so sick of Jotaro and his bullshit.
If anything it should have been Johnathan to be the one to defeat Godmode Dio, or a tag team of Johnathan and Jotaro being that they were the first and final Joestars to face his evil. They could even have used what amounts to the same bullshit asspull to explain why Jonathan could be unaffected by his hax as Jotaro was, in that Dio and Jonathan are literally of one body.
I saddens me that Xbox doesn't have a strong identity Microsoft used to publish lots of cool games on PC and they made an incredible effort to give the huge box cool exclusives but all of that went nowhere. Today the XBox has nothing but Halo and Gears.
I wish Blinx had stuck as the Xbox's mascot, if that so right now we will have Blinx Racer were we can run over the ofiice assistants like Clippy and Voodoo Vince is a secret unlockable character
Nice keep the models the same just upping the quality. Also getting some dosh from Sony throwing them a VR exclusive bone.
>>201373 Microsoft seems to always have a problem knowing what they want to do. Heck even Windows departs and gets messed up more times than not with Windows 7 being the only clear one with an identity outside the originals and that was just "Don't be Vista." Every other version since has tried to be multiple things to the part of just being unpleasant overall.
And XBox Classic was a game console which had a host of unique attempts on it and every thing after that has just become homogenized with maybe a sparse number of games that try something different. Problem is everyone seems to be trying the same different thing so there are like four game that are "different" from usual stuff but all come off as thematically similar.
Sony isn't that much different. Their VR experience not looking that more different than the other two save maybe a bit more polished in places due to the level of development on it. I still like the HTC Vive the most of the current waves since VALVE likes to tinker and experiment and Sony is still using old controllers from their last movement interaction setup.
Smartglass could be something for the XBox but that is still a wait in see how it goes in development.
>>201373 I still don't understand why MS invented Xbox. They already had Windows, and owned 90% of the PeeSea gaming market. I understand that competition breeds excellence, but what was MS's goal exactly?
>>201374 I've heard about that MS's department even go so far as sabotaging each other. My issues with MS's games is that they have all of these franchises buried and as time goes on they try less and less to come up with original stuff. at least the remaster of Voodoo Vince seems to be a step in the right direction.
>>201375 PC gaming was shrinking and there was a hole on the console market left by Sega
>>201377 >>201375 I've also heard that a big part of it was third party companies wanting to focus on consoles, and devs getting used to the PlayStation toolkit(s). Microsoft wanted to make sure they could keep those third parties developing on their platforms, and released Xbox as a defensive measure to ensure that. While Xbox had exclusives, I believe developing games for it was very similar to working on stuff for Windows. Now that it's much easier to develop for both their and Sony's products at the same time, it makes sense that we'd see the Xbox line start to get devoured by Windows. Back when the first Xbox released it wasn't a simple matter just to port stuff across systems, you had to have people who knew the architecture for every system you wanted the game on, and it was sometimes almost as costly as making two seperate games. That isn't the case anymore.
>>201380 Just finished listening to it It was really good, they brough up some facts I have not heard about the ogbox but they didn't dedicate enough time to talk about games.
Kojima finally got his award at The Game Awards last night. He decided to give something back in return: a new trailer for Death Stranding. Enjoy the WTF-ery!
So PlayStation VR sales are not that good. Which makes sense given there is nothing that really benefits from the Tech out there yet.
Every other VR headset is still being marketed to the enthusiast that knows its not really ready for mainstream and all the games are just homebrew or dev showcases. Sony trying to be first out with nothing to really work with it seem to be a massive hurdle.
So how'd you guys feel if I did a twitch stream thing? Got a xbox one and been kinda wanting to do a crapy stream thing. I got Fallout 4, Transformers Devastation, Sunset overdrive and some other stuff.
I've...I've also played though Gears of War 4 or as I like to call it Let's save the slightly less bland side characters' mom: the video game. Not to say the main character isn't bland, because vanilla is more exciting than the MC.
Well, it's official, there is a MVC4 in the making. That leaker was right, which now makes me wonder even more what is the *other* Capcom game he was talking about.
2v2? The Infinity Gem system returns? An actual story mode? MOTHERFUCKIN’ MEGAMAN X?
GET HYPE FOR MAHVEL, BABY!Literally the only issue I’d have is if they kept out Wolverine. They can drop all the other X-Men for all I give a fuck, but Wolverine is a series mainstay and dropping him would be a huge mistake.
I’ve heard more than a couple of people remark that the in-match assists from the tag partner feels very SFxT. Now we have to wait on news about the Infinity Stones…
A another group finds out that Ellie is immune and wants to use her to make a cure and is holding Joel or someone else she's come close to hostage.
A settlement of "immune" citizens is under assault by said group to capture them or learn what it is that keeps them immune (ends up they are just cautious and have filter tech or something in gas masks that keeps spores out)
Or there is talk of another I immune person with some name like "the caretaker" and Ellie wants to find them in better hopes of understanding her place in things. Turns out they are nuts and believe their immunity gives them some "devine right" to judge other survivors.
>Capcom has removed the old “X-factor” mechanic from Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and replaced it with six Infinity Stones. […] Each stone will grant one ability that can be activated at any time, and one stronger ability will be more rare (again, the team has yet to work out the specifics of how they will limit this ability). When I brought up Street Fighter V’s V-System as a potential reference point for Infinity Stones, they instead pointed me toward Capcom Vs. SNK 2’s Groove System.
Oh good, it’s not like the SFxT gem system at all.
Simple explanation? There’s really only one wrestling game per year, and it sucks ass.
Longer explanation? Way back in the year 2000, WWE and THQ partnered together to release WWF SmackDown! on the PlayStation One. That game was developed by Yuke’s Future Media Creators. Since that game, Yuke’s has been the lead developer on every subsequent game in the franchise (from WWE SmackDown to WWE SmackDown vs. Raw to WWE to WWE 2K). It shows every year, too: Every subsequent game has been building on top of the previous game using an kitbashed engine with roots still firmly planted in the original SmackDown! engine — right down to recycled animations from the PSOne games being used up until (and possibly during or even past) the PS3 era. Not even the jump from THQ to 2K (and the subsequent partnership between Yuke’s and Visual Concepts) has fixed the issues inherent with using a highly modified version of a gameplay engine that was initially created over fifteen years ago. And given the state of the American professional wrestling industry, WWE games are basically the only games that matter. So you’re stuck with shitty wrestling games because WWE dominates the wrestling landscape, no developer/publisher worth a shit wants to make an unlicensed competitor to WWE games, and WWE can’t be fucked to let 2K build an entire new engine from scratch.
Oh, and just to highlight how shitty the WWE franchise is: We’re in the PS4 era, and there still hasn’t been a WWE game with an actual Survivor Series 5-on-5 Match.
>>201404 >>201405 The same shit happend with real sports games, EA's monopoly has stankated the genres and brogamers/nromies don't care for unlicensed sports games.
>>201406 Bruh, PES and FIFA got a pretty strong rivalry going with the fans. And considering they don't have NBA, you really only mean Madden and maybe NHL.
>>201408 It's good to see mainstays back but they could've used this to introduce at least one interesting new character. X is a good make-up present but it's not like MM characters haven't been in previous games already, plus Marvel's been shilling Carol super hard even though she's as interesting as a slice of unfrosted vanilla cake so it's hard to get that hype over her. Wolverine might not be the most interesting guy either but people are worried about the mutants so at least revealing him first would do a lot to assuage the negativity surrounding this game.
So Gearbpx releasing a Enhanced version of Bulletstorm. They going to try and revive that series I guess.
Shame its going the Different Game so its a Full Price "Upgrade". Route. As I did like the game way back when and I'd have liked to have played it again with new features and areas. But not for full price.
>>201430 >Ryce Oh that guy. I've seen his supposed leaks and I'm pretty skeptical, since he was outright wrong about when exactly the trailer would be released and all of his other stuff that he got right could be chalked up to good guesswork.
I just got binging the Tvtropes article for the latest Five Night's game (and of course reading through the ones related to the others via wiki walk) and the series sounds like its become a totally convoluted mess that is being kept going long past the point the fleshy outer covering has rotted away due to its popular/meme status.
>>201449 Eh I still like seeing what Scott keeps adding and how this syncs up with some things. The Custom Night scene additions add a new wrinkle if this all connects together.
The big problem with FNAF as the series stands right now lies in its lack of proper (and coherent) closure to the major storyline. I commend Scott for finding a new way to extend the franchise’s lifespan; FNAFSL really does change the formula up enough to make SL and at least one more sequel worth the revival. But his efforts to complicate the story just so he can keep people guessing about it have really undermined his gamemaking ability. We’re ready for the climax — ready for him to explain the story in a coherent way once and for all — and he doesn’t seem to care about that.
I’d call that the biggest problem with FNAF4, too: Fans wanted an actual climax to the FNAF story, but alls they got was a mindfuck that didn’t do shit to explain anything.
Blizzard just released an Overwatch comic that shows Tracer is in a lesbian relationship (no, not with Widowmaker), which is interesting because everybody had assumed the LGBT character was going to be Zarya. Plus, Tracer is the game's face character, which makes it a somewhat bold move.
And its gong to cause squabbles unless they make them all gay. Getting back to the whole deal "maybe this is why we don't make females playable in team FPS"
I mean Medic and whomever is always a joke because of the tendency to pocket Medic. Nobody gives a shit or is badgering Valve to make it real. Hell the one time someone tried to be definitive was the one time Vavle fired someone. Is the only reason people are so obsessed with Overwatch is Tits?
>>201462 Touch younger she'd be banned in Britain as well.
>>201463 >And its gong to cause squabbles unless they make them all gay. Getting back to the whole deal "maybe this is why we don't make females playable in team FPS"
Yes, why don't these ungrateful minorities give you unqualified adulation when you begrudgingly admit they exist?
>>201467 I never got "hardcore" gay vibes from her, but I certainly always thought she was a frontrunner for the Homosexual Olympics. Or at least the Non-Heteronormative Olympics. Was it actually confirmed she was gay-gay (as opposed to bi, pan, demi, what have you), or just that she's in a same-sex relationship?
>>201463 >Touch younger she'd be banned in Britain as well. No she wouldn't, the hell are you talking about? Section 28 was abolished decades ago, and a good thing too. More to the point, you can't ban people, anon.
Wonder if a positive reception of this would have Crystal Dynamics attempt to cram the gay back into Lara Croft after stripping all of that from the second game.
Kinda hard to dial back Lara acting especially callous to her tormented friend while she runs off in search of daddy issues.
This is what happens when a game is developed using an engine that has been modified to Hell, Heaven, and Limbo on a yearly basis for over fifteen years.
>>201494 The story part of Nier while good also didn't quite stick the landing as well as I hoped but I feel like Platinum has decent storytelling even if its problem is weak plots.
Just completed Saints Row IV, but there was a glitch (I assume) in the post-finale cutscene where my hand was permanently holding a copy of Zinyak's head and spine, even after dropping it on the stairs. This included the dancing scene.
>>201495 Having an old engine isn't even that great of an excuse. The CoD games have been built upon the same perpetually updated and tweaked IW Engine ever since CoD2 (over a decade ago!), and for all their faults you don't usually see weird crap on those games.
>>201508 Defintely, if you can stomach the WoW art style. Played it on PS4 and it's got a ton of content, you get legendaries and good equipment at a reasonable pace and the postgame content is actually good enough that it kept me playing for a bit after getting the Platinum. Path of Exile is free, though, so you might want to try that one first if you feel like playing a loot grinder. I know some people really hate that game for whatever reason, but I think it's still the best one of those around.
>>201523 It's really not. The console wars don't really have much of an effect on the hobby as a whole. Neither Microsoft nor Sony are really innovating with their consoles, so they don't represent meaningful competition for one another in terms of driving hardware innovation. Sony and Microsoft consoles are effectively interchangeable at this point, other than what exclusives they get--and that doesn't represent meaningful competition, since if they didn't have two consoles, the game companies would still be making those games, they'd just be releasing it on whichever system was the prominent one.
Nintendo innovates with their consoles, of course, but in Hardcore Gamerville, Nintendo's innovations are "gimmicks," so (even though Microsoft and Sony both tend to implement whatever Nintendo's newest innovation is in the next iteration of their own console) they aren't counted as meaningful competition even though they do more to get Sony and Microsoft to innovate than either does for each other.
>>201529 Yeah, and even as the Nintendo Fanboy that I am, I'll admit that their setup will probably be better than Nintendo's on technical merits. Nintendo comes up with disruptive technology, explores it a while, then moves on to the next thing. Sony and Microsoft perform iterative improvements on Nintendo's innovations that make for better tech that makes less of a splash because Nintendo's already done so much pioneering that they're stuck playing catch-up, even though their tech, and sometimes their games, are strictly better. They don't get the advantage of novelty to become the classics that Nintendo's stuff does, but they are frequently objective improvements on what Nintendo has already done.
>>201531 I'm not sure if they're interested in VR at all, at the moment. Like maybe they will be some day, but I suspect at the moment it's not even on their radar. Nintendo seems to be a lot slower to adopt other companies' innovations than they are to do their own thing--look how they STILL resist putting together an XBox or Playstation style online experience for their consoles, for example, despite the proven popularity and functionality.
I mean I'm not necessarily going to say that's something that needs to change--maybe going their own way and ignoring what the competition is doing is what allows them to come up with new ideas in the first place--but it's noticeably inconvenient at times.
Imma be poor as shit soon as I prepare to move, so I've started to stock up an apocalypse collection of PS2 isos: Okage, Harvey Birdman, Radiata Stories, Rogue Galaxy, Sakura Wars SLML (5), and Ar Tonelico 2
"Friday the 13th: The Game" got Tommy Jarvis back. Not some generic bullshit model or new VA—they got Thom Mathews, the guy who played Tommy in "Friday the 13th: Part 6".
>>201610 If it's about Black Widow and Hawkeye specifically I think it could be cool. Their skillsets would lend particularly well to that kind of gameplay.
>>201638 I kinda liked the overly skinny appearance he had in the very first reveal trailer, that looked like an artistic choice to get across how fucked up he was from the Mako experiments. Maybe this comes later after he gets his shit together a bit.
The Dark Souls community just completely poisoned the well, huh? You're no longer allowed to experience difficulty playing a videogame. Gotta be able to play it blindfolded with a hog tied to your genitals and even then you're a pussy because you weren't also on fire while doing so.
People are picking on Polygon mainly because of an infamous "DOOM" video where the person playing the game sucked so hard that everyone was left wondering if Polygon's reviewers had ever even played games before — //youtube.com/watch?v=9yYp8ZeQ-I8
Polygon editors admitting to holding back a review of a game because it was "too difficult" made people pile on the mockery even more.
>>201660 >Polygon editors admitting to holding back a review of a game because it was "too difficult" made people pile on the mockery even more.
That sounds like a really stupid thing to mock them for, given the way people claim to value "journalistic integrity" in games journalism. They held back the review because they weren't able to get a good enough feel for the game to judge. That seems like a good call to me.
But I'm being silly here. I know that difficulty-based-gatekeeping is a thing in gamer circles. I'm just pointing out the stupidity of it because I don't feel like letting them continue normalizing their circlejerk. Not because I actually think I'll ever be able to convince sperglords not to sperg.
>>201661 Hajime Tabata, the game's director, said they still have 70% of the FFXV development team working on the game and updates for it and that they have a year's worth of content planned so some of it is going to be fixed. They said the custom content had more to do with quests, whatever that means.
>>201662 One fellow on another forum I frequent recently used that Polygon Doom video as part of his argument that Polygon hates video games. Not "is bad at video games" or "is hopelessly at sea at video games," this guy believes that Polygon actively despises video games.
Now, bearing in mind Polygon is a video game review site and LPer's curse is, y'know, a thing that exists, that this dude immediately leapt to the assumption that VG reviewers are intentionally sabotaging the medium they have chosen to make their living on says a lot more about the insecure paranoiacs holding these intense hateboners for video game journalism than about video game journalism itself.
Now, if you want to find a video game-focused website that actually does viscerally hate video games, /v/ would be my suggestion (ever tried to say you liked a video game on /v/? Holeee shit...).
That means fixing that mid game which collapsed in on itself. Adding content to provide a better transition. Because that game really needs it.
I know DLC is supposed to clear up some of that. But as it stands its jarring and confusing.
Also they need to find out why the larger companion system was scrapped. Because before that mid game encounter you are told "Choose Three of your companions." Which usually means a player has to choose which three do what but the option doesn't occur in part because it can't since only three exist.
>>201668 It was a good idea destroyed by bad quality control via lack of oversight. To see both sides of that coin I'd suggest watching Jesse Cox The Greenlight game coverages and one of the few times I would ever recommend him Jim Sterling on the utter abominations of shovel-ware dreck that clogged up and destroyed it.
Jim Sterling is pretty good on the Greenlight subject since he has been litigated by some of the worst scum that ruined it.
Whether it will be a substantial fee (to ward off shovelware bullshit) or a small one (to help indie devs get on Steam without going into bankruptcy) is not yet known.
Disney is severing its ties with notable YouTube gaming personality PewDiePie over videos he made that featured anti-Semitic content (though he continues to claim such content was meant to be "humorous" and "satirical").
On one hand, they could get a team of actual people together to vet games on a bigger scale. On the other hand, vetting games for quality beyond "does it work" can get into issues of individual tastes that might make it hard for some games to get onto the service.
That's understood but again him being one of the only people that seems to deeply care and think that it could work Jim Sterling has some examples of games that while "Working" Playing for a handful of minutes shows that its really just unstable garbage.
Maybe it can be automated in similar methods to how Benchmarking is done. Game boots up then a timer is engaged to test the stability.Say it runs for about eight hours before ticking it off and putting breakdown on its performance.
Is it morally and spiritually wrong to switch your resolution down from 1920x1080 to 1600x900?
The size of the screen in my unhealthy intense hours of browsing the internet made my eyes hurt slightly at the greater resolution, and does it even make that big of a difference gaming-wise anyway?
>>201698 Speaking seriously, I wouldn't assume the resolution to really be causing the eye strain. You should look into other things first, like brightness compared to your surrounding, color temperature (if your using the computer at night), the physical screen's reflection, distance from the screen, font size, and just try taking more breaks.
Nier Automata's recommended specs includes a GTX 980. Fuck me, I really didn't want to upgrade for at least another while. At least a 1060 seems cheap enough, but I wonder how long it will even last me.
>>201725 Speaking of which, I really wish the PC version was coming out even a week earlier, because the 17th is right before when I have to go out of town for a few weeks.
And the pre-orders bonuses look amusing, but I'm gonna be cautious even if Platinum's been fine for PC ports so far.
You know, I stopped playing video games 10 years ago and only came back last year. I started lurking on /v/ and got to a point where I said I got up with everything I missed. Then i stumbled upon this video //youtube.com/watch?v=j8xx4sT6rEI and now I'm having a downer asking myself "How did I miss this?"
>>201735 Having played it I still think it's only OK and mostly sustained by the incredible music. But Nier Automata seems to deliver much better in the emotions department due to better gameplay integration despite its plot being not as interesting.
