Ogú, Mampato y Rena translation. Old chilean comic, never been officially translated. High quality scans already exist, so everything else is fair game
Updated the second link with Rena en el Siglo Cuarenta. As before, I left the irregular fonts to figure out later the best way to typeset them. https://mega.nz/folder/gC5BHbaJ#WpZ1lTIQYBDyVfMk5MvMcg
>>418360 >>418361 You did good with editing out the background, I'm guessing it was just the default context sensitive fill, but it works fine and you can only tell the difference if you eyeball both panels for comparison.
For the replaced font, I'd try to stay close to the original ones style (try to keep the same colour and relative size). In this case what stands out the most is the lack of black outline. The outline is also important because then the text is more readable when placed in front of a non-empty background.
Also keeping the font size similar (not per-letter, but so the floating text is around the same size) means you can place the text on the same area that you had to fill up when removing the original text, meaning that you can use it to hide up any inaccuracies in the background fill.
The original uses hand-drawn letters, you can't exactly do that in photoshop/gimp unless you opt to re-draw it. But you could perhaps make the text have some effect so it's not blindingly obvious that you just put a text box in there.
>>418363 >>418364 It's not just a question of the font, you can use things like text kerning and transformations to make the text appear longer/bigger, non-uniform, or even wavy. If you want to go the extra mile, you could even just set the font size per letter (but that's really annoying to edit).
For the swirly effect, you can apply a curving shape in photoshop and then put text on it: https://www.heathrowe.com/spiral-text-on-a-path-in-photoshop-cs/
Translatordude here here is my first draft of Kilikili and Golagolas https://mega.nz/file/DkpCWSaa I'll make a thread on /co/ too in case anyone else wants to join us. Waiting for proofreaders and corrections.
>>418411 Translator dude here, its looking great, but i think you should kept the "Mampatoo", since phonetically the u at the end Mampatu doesn't carry the same energy and sound for an english speaker. I know i kept the spelling for most of Ogu's caveman words, but the way he changes the spelling for spanish/english words to be more phonetic should be kept IMO since is part of his cha.
>>418415 I agree that mampatoo sounds better, but mampatu is very prevalentin exclamations and irregular fonts, many of which I can’t change because I can’t redraw. I personally think that it would be better to keep the consistency between the bubbles and exclamations, but if you guys think it’s not important I can change it back.
Apparently there is a re edition of the Oscar Vega issues by editorial Planeta, are those in the scans or we are only sticking to the Themo Lobos ones?
To the other anon translating the Rena book, do you need help? Asking since I'm considering moving on to another book, maybe the giant tree two parter since people seem to be really interested in the books with Rena.
Ok, so please tell me which one of these you think looks better. This is important, as it will be the font I use for all issues. If you have another font suggestion, please tell me too.
>>418457 Translator dude here, i love this one. Out of curiosity to the other translator anon, how is the Rena book going and how do you feel about doing the Giant tree/mutant rebellion two parter next?
Just wanted to let you all know that I'm still alive and working on this. I'm halfway done typesetting kilikilis, cause I'm forced to work at a slow pace.
>>418510 Looks good and pretty close to what suggestef in the draft, sorry for the lack of updates btw, family matters got me busy so I haven't been able to translate. I'll try to get something done soon.
I finally finished Kili-Kilis and Gola-Golas! The files are a little large for a storytime in /co/. Does anyone know how to post a comic in readcomicsonline, for example? Please let me know if you find any errors to fix! https://mega.nz/folder/JT5gASJY#yalTMVEIDshza1JpoTODzg
>>418567 I have been inactive for a while too, I might just start translating Rena instead since is shorter and will allow the typesetter anon to keep releases in order.
>>418566 Note when you are making a CBR link, please make sure you use RAR4 compression, not RAR5, otherwise many apps will be unable to read it. Or just use CBZ (zip file renamed to cbz).
Sorry for the delay, here is the translation script https://mega.nz/file/jo5lUKZA#kfg7lKxIA2lGAVb1aopsYMP0Dbg1d6r_H1ELVR8ehiE let me know of any mistake or thing I could improve at. Typesetter anon feel free to tell me which book I should translate next.
>>418670 No worries, we all have IRL stuff to deal with. In the meanwhile I been watching the cartoon adaptation of the comic, while the artstyle is not particularly great and the voice acting is really uneven, I must say is surprisingly faithful to the comic. If anyone else is curious https://www.cntv.cl/las-aventuras-de-ogu-mampato-y-rena/cntv/2018-12-17/085220.html The soundtrack specially took me for surprise, dig the Johnny Quest esque vibe.
