I like to look at the pretty pictures and reading is often optional but sometimes I want to know if I'm missing out. What are the best and the worst sonic fanfics you've ever read? Would you recommend some? Do we have some authors lurking? Any tips in writing?

when i was a kid I read a sonic heroes fanfiction where each chapter focused on a different team.

Then in one Team Dark chapter they get a chaos emerald off of Tails by Rouge literally dragging him into a closet and raping him unconscious while Shadow/Omega stand outside, then when she walks out the closet again Shadow and Omega are still there and they're like "wtf Rouge did you actually just fuck him unconscious in there? We thought you were gonna fight him or something!"

I badly wanna find it again

Railsfags really are subhuman trash.

Anyway...

/sthg/ has the occasional anon posting their stuff (there's a pastebin floating around with that stuff that I can't find right now)
But here's one anons work: https://archiveofourown.org/works/45703135?view_full_work=true

You should probably link this thread in the main thread so it can get more attention.

Tracks. Atonement was the 2nd worst novel i've ever had the displeasure of reading. Tied with Michael Frayn's Spies

As someone who tried writing a few short stories I'd suggest coming up with an outline of a story first, then write the story.

Another trick I heard of is to write scenes you're having trouble getting out in script format first, then translate them into prose.

Always make a rough draft first, then go back and edit it. Try to focus on getting something on the page, then go back to clean it up. That'll help with Writer's Block.

Read more, especially in genres you're interested in. Especially published books. Fanfiction, or online serial fiction in general tends to have a lot of bad quirks people pick up.

It was pretty silly yeah.
Shadow and Omega didn’t realise until after she walked out that they were having sex then they just skedaddle
The other cast don’t let it go either at the end when they all converge to fight whoever was the bad guy Amy keeps bringing it up like “Rouge why the fuck did you rape him for you psycho, poor Tails is even afraid of me now” and Rouge is all like “GEEZ WHY IS EVERYONE SO JUDGY OF ME!!”

Yes it's Sonadow, but it's well written and is definitely not your typical slavefic. Also, it's from 2008 so I read it over 15 years ago

lmao, that sounds hilarious

I do have a fanfiction.net archive from a few years ago, I really should update and release it

South Park and Stephen King may not be the best writers (especially with endings), but they are unbelievably fast. Even if most of their completed works aren't very good, the important takeaway for aspiring writers is they actually complete them. Also, releasing so many means that by sheer chance a few will have turned out good. I honestly hate reading Stephen King books, Dean Koontz is way better

I'd add that you don't need to write it in order, if you've got something in mind for some key scenes there's nothing wrong with starting there first. Another trap people fall into is spending too much time on research. So long as the core concepts/mechanics your story relies on are sound, you can fill in the details later
