A lot of people think it's going to follow up on the Dark Ocean and/or Daemon. Another group (of which I think I might be part are hoping for MYOTISMON'S WILD RIDE.
>The character designer is Atsuya Uki, who directed Cencoroll and did designs for Tsuritama (which does look similar to the new Digimon designs.) >Series composition is Yuko Kakihara, who did the same for Chihayafuru 2, Heaven's Lost Property and it's sequels, and the Stitch anime (among others.) >The series director is Keitarou Motonaga, who directed Ah My Buddha, Akane Iro ni Somaru Saku, Date a Live, Getbackers, Katanagatari, School Days, and tons of other
Anyway, I'm not really liking how much they're sticking to the Adventure script. I appreciate the nostalgia trip, but so far they're going through the motions in a series of references, from fighting Kuwagamon, to Ogremon and Leomon fighting, (and Leomon dying, but who didn't see that coming). And in the next one Patamon dies?.
And I don't know, but the obligatory inner struggles that the kids overcome don't really feel that special. I mean this is the whole team reaching Mega. It's implied this should be something life-changing, but it doesn't feel any more special or different from the problems they faced as kids. I really hope the rest of the movies try to break away from the formula of "kid faces problem, overcomes it, Digimon evolves". It was fine when the audience were young, but an adult audience is gonna get sick of real fast unless they pull some twists.
I think that's a big problem with Tri, the kids are older, the audience is older, but the plots are still the same. The shadowy gov't agents have done all of jack shit so far maybe? and the fact that the kids are older hasn't really made the problems *that* much more real. Sure, Tai and Joe are struggling with more responsibilities and a larger worldview, but Joe just got over it with some generic peptalk and Tai probably will too. So far the main thing the characters being in high school has done is give an excuse for SOL anime shenanigans and fanservice.
And man, they HAVE to address what happened to the 02 kids next movie. They HAVE to. If they don't then it officially starts to slip into bad writing territory. Did 02 happen? Did the story diverge at some point? TK and Kari recognized Ken and Imperialdramon (and Fighter mode) but their reaction wasn't that of someone who recognized an old comrade. What the fuck?
