Gamelink: https://corru.observer/ (Recent firefox update is still breaking it, either try another browser or wait till it's fixed.) Thread to discuss the game, its lore, and any fanworks based on its setting and lore.
Game kinda lacks any real discussion outside of tumblr and its main discord, so im starting something here. Just keep any discussion vaguely on topic will ya?
>Be Quo >Quo Tir >Doing biological studies on the Earth Continent known as ‘North America” >The Bright cousin world contains so many strange Biomes and Fauna! >You couch down to examine some strange white fungal growths >It will take us many eyes to fully document the inhabitants of just this one conti- >A Loud Bang rings out in the forest. >You freeze but all the fauna around you scatters, obscuring the direction of the sound >You decide to remain still, unsure of the cause of the sound. Is it some predator you have yet to see, and natural event, something else entirely? >Your thought halts as you hear rustling in a nearby plant, curiously you peek your head over. >You observe a Bright cousin, having just emerged from a bush it was previously occupying. >Its dress in a odd tunic, a mix of contradicting colors, some that blend seamlessly with the colors of the local environment, while the other is a bright orange hue. >It even has stripes of some highly reflective material. How curious! >Is it trying to blend into the environment or not, I must ask! >You stand up fully and face your new friend. >Its freezes as soon as it makes eye contact with you, eyes wide and a facial expression you have yet to observe. >You pull at your non-existent neck as you shift your translator into something it can understand. >”Hello Friend! Were you the source of that big sound earlier?" >No verbal response. >New bright friend remains motionless barring one step back. >In its hand you notice some sort of long tool, some contraption of dead metal and fibrous “wood” as they call it. >Before I can remark about it, the Cousin turns heel and sprints off into the forest. >Is there something he is running from? Should I be running from it? I can answer both questions by following my friend! >You give chase. >Bright cousins aren't the best runners, but they make up for it with endurance! >You are catching up, you wonder where it is running too? >It notices your approach and speeds up, is it trying to race you, or is the thing he is running from gaining lead? >You speed up as well, trying to match its heightened pace. >Seemingly, in its urgency to flee whatever it is fleeing from, it drops its tool. >You scoop it off the ground, not even slowing down, as you continue your fun little run. >”Friend! Friend! You dropped your tool! Do you want it back?! >No response, just a faster pace as some sort of response. >Is this one perhaps deaf or hard of hearing, surely I will get my answers once we reach our destination! >Soon we reach a big rocky train, and at the end of it sits a square dead metal machine >Its one of the bright cousin walker equivalent’s, How fascinating >The cousin doesn't even slow down as it approaches the transport, but quickly dives into an open hatch off the side of it. >Your pace slows as you hear the dead metal machine roar to life, it emanates a loud, vibrating growl as it wakes up. >It wastes no time and starts rolling down the road at an alarming pace. >But the cousin forgot his tool! >You wont possibly catch that transport at this pace, so as a last attempt you wave the cousins tool in the air and try to shout to get its attention. >However, as you do so, it seems your finger slips a catches a small lever on the middle of its ‘grip’ >You nearly lose your hold on the tool as a loud BANG emanates from one end of it. >Very reminiscent of that first loud sound you heard earlier. >The transport does not stop and you watch it vanish into the forest. >You stop to examine the tool further, after fiddling with a few more small levels, the tool rops open on a hinge, spitting out two empty canisters of some sort, slightly hit and emitting a faint odor. >On a piece of hardy leather connecting to the two ends of the tool, you find more of those strange canisters, but these ones are unspent, so curiously you slot them back into the now empty cylinders in the device and close it up >It locks back together with a hefty click. >You find the lever that that you hit by mistake earlier and click it again, to your delight the tool recoils back with a loud noise and an unknown force >What a curious device! I must study it further! >It was about at this time you noticed a small leakage emanating from the side of your torso. >Further investigation reveals you appear to have been stabbed by something, as there is now a small hole leaking corru. >I wonder how that got there! >You leave the trail and start heading back to your vessel with your new Bright cousin tool to go repair your mysterious injury. >You will give it back once you find that cousin again, but its eagerness to return to wherever it came from shall remain a mystery to you, for now at least.

>>436988 >Canonically? unsure: how they reproductive is never really brought up and the situation if Qou can do it is even more unclear. >Fandom wise? oh they fuck NASTY. they fuck like they're population is small and and they want doubleddgit kids because their population IS small and they wanna change that. >Also, expect nails, teeth, and whatever they can figure out what to do to you with their receptors
Might as well try to prompt some discussion here, because the only two other places this game has any form of present community is their discord and tumblr:
>discord has people who'll scream at you for not knowing what plural system is. >Tumblr is the same people, but at least you have a better system for blocking. >game too niche for reddit somehow. >twitter pressence being held up by a singular nsfw artist. >dont bother with anything youtube related besides the music.
Which fucking sucks because i do find these wierd ass aliens rather fucking interesting but the only place i can have good discussion about them are private discords and me harassing my friends about it:
Obesk: >give startrek TOS vibes. >live on a deathworld(moon), but are surprisingly friendly somehow. >have caste system reminiscent of hive incest without a hivelord/queen role. >have wierd horn shaped antenna receptor things that shape depends on said caste. >where hunter-gatherers that lived in cave citys till they accidentally sidestepped the entire techtree and invented corru tech that got them from stone tools to ftl tech and immortality in like 150 years. >said stupid fast techprogression means their culture is still very litterly stuck in the dirt still. >so now you got Qou (obesk that 'die' and but their minds in immortal robots) running around the galaxy in search on some wierd signals that leads them to earth in the early 00's-10's >stick down a giant oblesk on an island in the middle of the ocean. >suprised when humanity finds it fucking immediately. Ill continue this at work atm-
>>436997 >7 years of radio silence while they figure out our language and shit >first contact happens, surprisingly chill. >have like a good 5-7 years of decent relations >one day something goes apeshit, alot of qou die, they cut 9ff contact with humanity and mostly leave earth entirely. >game itself takes place 30 years later, your a government contractor looking through old alien tech recovered from wrecks at the bottom of the ocean.
The world building of this setting is fucking neat to me and learning this shit is so old the first drafts of its story predates shit like homestruck is FASCINATING. I want to talk about it more but as previously stated, only two areas with any form of population arent good places for unrestricted discussion: hence why this thread exists.
>>437059 And when exactly does that happen, Yanon? If I'll be honest this really reminds me of homestuck with how it's just text after text for hours until the good stuff comes. I also got the feeling that the lore will be just as incomprehensible as homestuck which was also a major turn off for me.
>>437060 NTA But depending on where you go you can find one of the hardest fights in the game about 10 seconds after finishing the tutorial.
As for the lore, first chunk of info they give you is overwhelming but then they spend the rest of the game spelling it out for you without dumping it onto you too quickly to understand.
Dont want to compared it to things like death stranding but its got the same kind of feeling of "lore seems bullshit till it clicks"
>>437061 Another complaint is that I'm not even that far in and one of the characters talks like someone on Twitter and even ending their sentences with lol which is really obnoxious
>>437063 Thats moth. the fact i already know who your talking about with that SINGLE bit of info says all you need to know. Unfortunately hes important and that grammar dosent stop
dont really know what to hell ya, at least hes the only one that talks like that... Besides one bastard
Whoever Designed telyu both was a freak and knew EXACTLY what they where doing From her mindspike log: >vaznian surrealist influence >vel receptors, curled, performer paint pattern >cloaking skin representation;tuvazu heritage tail >self-designed signature
they gave this alien too much sauce, save some for the rest of them godDAMN
I’ve played though most of the game, but I haven’t read the memory hole stuff yet, I had to check the wiki since I though you had to brute force it, not look for hints. Thanks to /md/anon osmosis for introducing me to corru, it has a LOT of overlap with my own experiences and knowledge. It reminded me to not respond with immediate hostility when exposed to bizarre things, I first thought of the fortress people to be hostile entities that want to destroy memories and other stuff. I personality relate to the 4th not really member of this group. Anyway I’m too lazy to format spoilers on mobile so I spoke in code, to avoid spoiling this wonderful game.
Maybe the psychological phenomenon known as the “call of the deep” that describes divers feeling a compulsion to dive deeper is caused by the meteorite in the cooru universe. Perhaps the human mind can perceive the call on a subconscious level.
>>437093 I like all the characters but the one I like a bit more than the others is Tozik. I like him because of his personality and design. There isn’t any real concrete reason for me liking him more other characters other than him being an engineer. I can’t exactly articulate why I like him more than the others, perhaps it’s just familiarity with that type of person. The only issue I have with any of the characters is, and it’s really minor, that Idril and Telyu are too human looking and not alien enough. It makes sense that Kaziki would look more human because she's likely involved in diplomacy but. Why do those two look so human? I mean Idril isn't that human looking, but it’s noticeable. I do like her personality, and her design expresses it the same goes to Telyu. Telyu looks like a brat and she is one, that’s the best way I can express it, and I know that's wifu bait and It broke my immersion to be honest. They almost break the art style, and it bugs me, Telyu breaks it way more than Idril does. The other female obesk don't look like this and aren’t as sexualized as Telyu is (even though she’s only a little sexualized), they are more alien and they have more elements that aren't so human looking. It's nothing major to complain about though, I’m just begging for Velzie to hit me with the canon human on big curvy titty obesk porn, realism lore and themes be dammed. If you want to know my opinion on any character let me know.
>>437095 >Too human You know Akizet explicitly states in her interview that larval obesk almost exactly look like humans in their larval state. You even see that akizet and the other obesk keep their larval faces on stands to wear, which is a bit creepy but its there
>>437096 I know that but I don’t know how larval obesk actually look like. I assume they are bipedal with the same body plant as humans, have claws, they probably have pale skin and eyes adapted for low light vision, they can also have tails with different sorts of receptors denoting the caste. I presume that vel are a leadership caste and tir are a sort of hybrid between diplomats and therapists. It’s probably 40k tau lore bleeding in though.
>>437097 Yeah both how qou look outside of signatures and larval obesk is still mostly up to individuals interpretation
When it comes to signatures it might vary widly from what they look like in reality due to the signatures basically acting as a artistic 'profile picture' for the collective. The closest thing we got to what an actual qou might look like is drowned and MAYBE wakizet. But take that with a heavy grain of salt because both are lucid thoughtforms who potentially altered how they looked, intentionally or not.
>>437098 I forgot funfriend had to use data from the colective to represent obesk. I thought he only had to do it to the auxiliaries in the halls. I was pretty confused and still getting my bearings when I was playing through that part of the game.
>>437099 Think its all non-afflicted qou had their visual data corrupted. Things like golems, aggressive furniture and anything afflicted seemed to be correctly displayed, even if it was still low res.
Explains why geli is one of the only charicters we see have actual facial expressions and receptor movements visualized, shes a golem/echo and didn't have a collective signature to work off of.
>>437095 I think Telyu character-wise has alot of weird stuff going on with her that shapes both how she looks and how she acts: >Looks wise she from a separate continent from the rest of the cast >Obesk/qou usually have Continent specific design choices and mannerisms >Ethnicity basically, its why gakvu/tozik share some design similaritys with eachother and so do Akizet, Cavik, & Kazki >Most of the cast is from one of two continents: Ekiva & Vazni >The exception of that rule is Telyu, which comes from Tuvazu, a now abandoned continent. >We dont know why it was abandoned, but considering how fucking horrid that planet is NORMALLY, it was nothing good. >It makes her Signature design concepts different from the rest, it also explains why she has a tail, obesk from that continent just... had those sometimes there apparently. >Personality wise, from the wiki and how Karik described her she used to be alot less cynical before the timeframe of the collapse, and just seems to have a personal dislike of Akizet for possibly causing all this. >I don't actually think she had any ulterior motives despite how shady/reserved she was, but her being a damn good fighter and having a damn invisibility cloak while being all that wasent helping her case.
Oh, whats your opinion on Bozko? people always have wierd takes about him so im curious of what yours is
>>437108 I don’t have any weird takes on him >I didn’t notice his kind side at first >He has survivors guilt from his larval years >He deeply cares about his friends and he doesn’t want to see them die. This is due to a combination of survivors guilt from his larval years and kindness. >He’s self destructive and impulsive when it comes to protecting his friends >I don’t have many concrete conclusions regarding him since his whole part in the collapse felt more like setup than anything. I remember he was self modifying, I don’t understand how that’s harmful to qou, isn’t self modification just changing your subjective experience and simply changing as person but deliberately. I don’t understand how not feeling pain or dampening sensation can harm someone’s mind to the point its a cultural taboo for the obesk. I want to see this explored in future acts, I do have some loose ideas how it might work. For example it could lead to a loss of the self as a lot of introspection does or you’d have people who would self modify their minds to the point their thinking was entirely alien because they were aiming at engineering their own mind to be good at some specific task. Maybe it causes qou mind cores to deteriorate faster. >I’m also not as well versed in corru as you are, so I don’t know the lore and characters as well as you do. Despite playing the game for the last week or so
>>437109 kinda surprising because most people ive seen play ether forget bozko exists or dislike him for a few reasions Personalty i like him because he carried my ass through the collapse and can tank absolutely stupid ammount of hits for the team
Part of me feels compelled to try passwords in the memory hole. I know how the game marks them out but after looking at the wiki I’ve noticed an obvious pattern in them. They are all words included in the game. I’d want to try to write a script that inputs all the words from the transcripts on the wiki into the memory hole. But I won’t do it because it will spam the server and be really immersion breaking.
