Let's make a hero. Add some faithful allies, And a cunning villain that swears he will win another day!
A thread to collect the art for the Stargaze and the Sentinels of Starlight (SatSoS) /co/llaboration project, which aims to make an 80s cartoon made to sell toys. The goal is to make the 80s show, but there are no limits to creativity in the journey to reach said goal: there are many proposed sequels and spinoffs set in different decades (like 90's Stargaze), and even a side project about the animation studios that made the 80s show (Tetraleaf Studios). I will try to put the art in chronological order, if doing so doesn't become too boring or taxing. The posts will be tagged with the name of the character in the picture, written in capital letters (e.g. STARGAZE).

First sketch for the project. Was later considered as the concept of an older show (1940s-1950s) starring these three characters, where Stargaze was a Superman rip-off.
This artist (later known as Comet-anon) would go on to become one of the greatest contributors in the threads. He's based beyond belief. Here's the first design of Ursa-La, that changed in later threads. >Here's a first concept for Ursa-La, the bear alien love interest. I think her planets a bit more primitive so has more of a tribal aesthetic, but of course they still have lasers and other sci fi shit. The weapon I gave her is a special bo staff that also has a laser gun at the end of it. >She can also scratch with her claws.
>I like the look... could you try some braids to give a bit of female viking? Perhaps also make the ears rounder? Those looks more like a koala.
>I agree on the ears, I fixed them here. >As for braids, she already has them wrapped around the side of her head. In her original design I didn't post the braids hung down and were more obvious, as well as she had longer hair but I remembered these are supposed to be plastic action toys so the long hair would make her less articulate being a solid lump of plastic hanging off the back of her head (pretty sure brushable hair was more of a girl's toy thing) I could maybe give her one or two long braids on the back of her head if you think that'd look good, since that shouldn't interfere with articulation too much.
>>419591 Well, it will take a while to post all the images, so your opinion may change later (I don't see a big SU influence. But yes, there are rock people later in the game). But I guess you are totally right with Nova Prime: if you check the first thread, the protagonist was named Stargaze in a post with a picture of Nova. Anyway, I'm resuming the work. I'll also make the Stargaze thread on 4chan's /co/ later, as soon as I finish with the art of the first thread here. And on another note, Plus4chan is awesome.
Comet by Comet-anon. I can't quantify the influence this little drawing had on the project. >Okay so here's my initial concept design for Comet. I remember her being described as sort of a tomboy so I tried to reflect that in her design while also keeping her appropriately feminine for the time period. Here I based her on the elfin/cat alien look, if we decide to go with that for her alien heritage.
Her original design. It will become less cartoonish later, but this is about it. >Someone mentioned an insect milf villain. Had a go at designing one. The claws on her hands are her main weapon, they can poison people they scratch, and inflict viruses in machines as well. Her cloak is supposed to have an insect wing pattern, like on her collar but I didn't want to draw it all.
There were many heroforge designs in the old threads. One in particular became a beloved character (Trancia, coming up later). Tonns is the leader of the Scraphunters and there's a design for one of her crewmates (Klawfang, coming up later too). >Scraphunter Tonns. A She Troll-like, hunter for scraps of all kinds on a mostly junk area on a planet looking for big hunts for big finds; no matter the cost. Could work as a side-character working for either side in exchange for info/rare game.
>Here's another side character that is seldom a part of Tonne's Scraphunter group that's a crossbolt and short-blade welding, tall canine with a western theme that savors a stand-off from the best named Klawfangs.
Heroforge design of Trancia. Later, Comet-anon will make sure to make her unforgettable. >Behold! Conshock’s daughter who I spent some time on. >I decided to make her a fawn to emphasize her innocence and also gave her some stripes and spots like a cuttlefish. >Her spiked shock collar is slightly hidden, but it’s there
>I kept her design relatively simple because she is an animated character, and I feel the simplicity plays into her childness. >I feel she could be pretty acrobatic and dexterous. Plays into her elf/cat design.
There is/was an idea about SpaceCOPS, an interplanetary organization that is something like the police or the interpol. The head of the organization would be Hammer Hex, a robot (?), and (for what I remember) they are somehow tied to Wire Shark, the Big Bad of season 3 than manages the Galactic Prison (Prison Planet). >Hey Stargazers!! Here's an update on the SpaceCOPS Winsor/ Off-Duty and 0-1/ Version 2!
In this thread the name of the cat elf men alien race was decided: Baastanians. Many thanks to Lore-anon, another based contributor. >Anon 1: Being half Baastanian, would it mean Comet is unable to do magic? >Anon 2: Comet is also half Human so, she could have a bit of both worlds, while also being a massive fuck-up. >Comet: Rude!
>Here's a design concept for Warmaster. People had pretty varying ideas for what he looked like in their heads so I tried to balance the different interpretations in this design. I remember it being mentioned he'd wear some kind of military uniform with bulky upper armour that has a mounted shoulder cannon. I also gave him a military knife sword as a side arm for when he needs to get up close and personal.
>Damn, that's a solid Conshock right there. I like the Xavier eyebrows. He really looks like a wise mystic who could kick your ass... >...assuming he doesn't job first.
>I haven't been in one of these threads before but seeing how cute comet was convinced me to try drawing her last night. Also picked out some random colors that I think look good together
I don't have the foggiest Idea of who is this guy. But the artist left these words: >Appears only in flashbacks, with design on the right. Purely a formative rival not the present main villain / deuterogonist /etc. >Initially lives rent free in the macho hero's mind, without any direct references for the viewer to go on. Purely a source of comedy until fully fleshed out flashbacks. >Does not appear anywhere else, except as left in the final battle. >Arrogant honor obsessed warrior to monk, in both manners, remains true to himself but still opposed in personality to the hero Maybe the concept lived on in other characters.
>I think I remember someone in a previous thread had a suggestion along the lines of an angry Sigil picking up Comet by her tail, so I decided that could be fun to draw.
>Here's an alternative Sigil design, made to be a bit simpler so it'd be more feasible to animate and make toys out of. I could see both versions existing in canon though, one is just a more detailed outfit that could exist in promotional material for example. Feel free to give your thoughts.
Here's the Big Bad of the first season and ancient enemy of Stargaze. In his proto-design. >Also here's my initial idea for a Nebulious design, at least his cloaked version.
>somebody asked for one-off villains? >noodly telescopic arms would allow for a toy with soft-plastic arms that can bend every which way and in combat would allow him to entangle or extend to fight >face plate has simple minifig-style facial expressions like you would expect from an 80s style monitor
>Random idea I had of a bad end/AU where Comet gets adopted by Sigil instead and made into his apprentice. >Not an idea that should actually be canon and is just for fun. Unless we do want to do an AU/it's a wonderful life type episode where this kind of thing could happen.
>Anon: >Leotard >Exposed shoulders >Anon: Truly such an evil influence on such an impressionable child
Still, her final design is yet to come. >I've played around with her ear design making it a bit more like how the 90s reboot artist did it, so the ear placement is more in line with how we've done the other animal-people races like comet, sigil and trancia.
What? No picture? Yes, because a picture of Comet wearing a bikini shall be uploaded by someone from a land more free than mine. Check the archives if you wish so.
>I have done some development on my take for designing Pum-mel, based on stuff discussed here and my own thoughts. Here you can see her earth/rock elements as well as the crystal theme. Here are some of my thoughts on the design: >So, I feel her species are in some weird grey area between organic and literally made of rock. They might have some squishy aspects to them or maybe they are rock solid, I am not sure. While a male character could look more weird and monstrous female 80's characters still tended to still look feminine, so she has a mostly human looking shape to her body and look to her face. This version is colourless but I imagine her skin would be a shiny crystal like colour and texture, with the clothing parts being more hard and rocky with crystals sticking out of it. Don't ask me how she gets changed out of it, maybe their species can move stone like we can fabric. The one on the right has more lines on her body to give the appearance of a gemstone, although I think I prefer the left as not only is it easier to draw, it would also be easier to animate. Maybe I could find a middle ground with the design. Like defined joints in the elbows. >Her big fists are weapons for her, she is supposed to have sound/shockwave powers in addition to being good at punching things, so I assume the gauntlets would have sound abilities somehow. Maybe I can tweak their design when we work out how that would work as well as the toy. Regardless they are good for punching stuff anyway. >Her hair is this sort of metal wire, mentioned by an anon here 134089529 so I incorporated that. I have been experimenting with other hair styles including other materials outside of metal wire so may post those if we want to try out a different hairstyle. >I am not fully sold on the boots yet, I feel they could be polished up a bit, maybe more accurately mirroring the other one near the bottom so she looks less messy and is more consistent.
>Continuing, here is a look for her without the gauntlets on as I don't think she'd be walking around with big fists like that all the time, unless we want her to but I feel that'd get annoying for some scenes. >Someone also mentioned her species being inspired by japan. While I didn't put too much of that into her outfit no kimonos or anything as that'd restrict her movement as an articulated toy and fighter, but I did give her a sort of asian appearance.
I made a mental note to myself not to post AI art, but the original concept for Krogdar is just three pictures, not the usual flood of attempts, so I'll make an exception.
Posting some good resources made by a based anon. Check the rest of the script on the wiki. >Using this converted into a script that could be storyboarded, an example of what this project could become.
I think this picture needs context. >For a "how did they get away with this in the 80's" trope, Comet could be what brings him into the fold in a "twas beauty tamed the beast" way. Entirely paternal, but something for everyone meme implications at. >Crack in the stoic, hard personality when he sees a "true innocent" catgirl for the first time and feels novelty after a life on an unforgiving desolate world. Her entreat led to him helping the team off the dead world, then she's the only one who can make an emotional/moral choice against pragmatism that he'll go along with knowing it won't work out. To the annoyance of the others when their more grounded ideas are ignored.
>Decided to have a crack at actually drawing her in a full outfit, going with the idea its a sexy gothy outfit and not quite literally the same outfit as the heroforge model. >I have also made two versions. The left one more resembles an actual dress while the one on the right is probably easier to articulate as an action figure.
>based my design on various different drawings that have been done for him so far, trying to keep it streamlined enough to not be too difficult to animate. >Got him in his battle armour with the blaster on the left, it's in sword mode at the moment. And his more causal day to day outfit on the right.
>I used Star-ro's body as a template to quickly design this Astrayan soldier, uniform based both on Star-ro's and Warmaster's designs. This is a design for generic foot soldiers who may be guarding the royal family or fighting against Nebulious' minions. There would also be some of them who'd end up enemies if they chose to be loyal to Warmaster when he does his heel turn.
>He was a very bulky Astrayan solider. His wife died from an terminal illness before he was involved in the war. He was a very humble man with barely cash on him to make his dues.
by Ghost. He had a different concept for him. >Casual clothes >Unfeeling, small lifeless eyes >Soundwave signals for a mouth >Weird hair? Crown? >Aims for a uncanny valley kind of a look
>I had to take a stab at shitscribbling my thoughts on how princess Comet would look if she were in an 80's series.I think realistically she'd probably have one-two ponytails but there's SO MANY cute girls with those in the existing cartoons she may as well not.
>>I don't think 80s censors would let us get away with it so we would have to have Sigil extract the shard and then Stargaze manages to find a way to save the kid before he dies) >I imagine it more being a chaotic battle between Stargaze, Sigil, and Charen. Sigil wants to complete the mirror and is totally sick of Stargaze. Stargaze doesn’t want the mirror to be in Sigil’s or Charen’s hands. Charen wants the mirror and break it to free his “unborn siblings”, believing that the completed mirror itself is much more inferior than a shard’s personhood. The mirror for example never had an ability that is full of personality and potential as Grudge Blaster. It was developed from the experiences Charen had with his parents and his desires.
CHAREN >Interesting. So it [the Mirror] always had a mind of its own. I wonder if its negativity comes from an origins. Possibly from unfortunate souls or sacrifices.
NEBULIOUS >He’s a bio-mechanical villain made of pure energy. It’s oddly hilarious and fitting that he would have the most grounded kind of clothing style.
NEBULIOUS >Yeah. I really vibe with this kind of look to them. They are called VOIDborns. It would be lame if they didn’t turn out to be freaky cryptic nightmare energy beings.
>>419707 I would have liked to maintain the order of pictures and thread. So I suppose this will be the real start of thread 8 instead of >>419705 I suppose you are Charen-anon, else I don't see why you would have uploaded only the pictures of Charen and Charen-anon's version of Nebulious that I didn't upload for thread 7. I didn't upload them because you post an enormous amount of doodles where the characters are often barely recognizable and the thread would get flooded by them. I planned to upload the ones that seemed more relevant to me, and I was going to include something for every idea you had and/or that we still discuss in the most recent threads. And if you had asked, maybe I would have included all your drawings or at least a selection of your choice. But I see you will make sure to upload your creations to the last one. I accept your help, I won't add your drawings anymore. That's your job now. Saves me a lot of work. Good luck and thank you.
>Previously there was a greentext and some discussion around it about some space pirate villains with their bat lady captain, finally got around to making a design for her. I remember it was suggested she should have some stereotypical gypsy/romani apsects to her design that I tried to include. >As for the wings, I did some quick searching and found they are not out of the question for 80's toy and character designs. If you look up Angela from 80's She-ra, she has prominent angel wings on her back. I think on the toys they would have been able to be clipped on and off.
Charen-anon changed the gender of the character. Now Charen is a girl.
>How about this? I did two versions in case the hair over the eye doesn't work for either the time period or any toy models. I also might consider tweaking the hair a bit if I feel like it, changing the length or shape a bit. I dunno. >I am a bit behind with reading through lore posts so I don't know much about Charen or how they fit into things, I remember when she was conceptually a boy originally.
>Felt like doing another design concept for Sigil and Trancia, trying to keep things a bit more simple as I use more 80's cartoon references to get a good feel for it. >Some notable changes include Sigil having this power core/crystal in his chest, since I imagine he's sort of a cyborg anyway. He hasn't got his tail in this pic but I feel it might be retractable for when he needs an extra hand or weapon. The toy would have a tail accessory that could be clipped onto the back of the belt. >For Trancia I gave her this fancy headdress thing that seemed to be popular in shows like He-man and She-ra so it seems appropriate. I also changed the markings on her face to be a bit easier to produce to be kinder to the animators and toy produces. Similarly she doesn't have stripes on her legs to make her design a bit more simple. >I think I like these designs a bit more than the previous ones I have done for them, feel free to give your own opinions on it however.
This pic is somewhat special to me. I used it to make the OP after about two months without Stargaze. My thanks go to the artist. And many thanks to all the other other artists too. This thread exists because of you.
>have a Comet using one of her little gimmicky weapons we've mentioned her using. This is a special slingshot that she can shoot these little energy balls that resemble little comets/shooting stars when she fires them. They don't do a lot of damage but she can be tricksy with them.
>So this was my attempt at Rock-It. I was trying to make him big and muscular but not too lean, have his skin be bumpu and have some cracks because he is made of rock, show off the hilt of his Aster-Crystal sword and the cannon of his Avalancher Blast, and I wanted him in a Sumo-ready stance.
Formerly pitched as Haste Astero. >starship racer turned galactic rogue >He's one of those one-offs that starts as an antagonist and ends as a friend, like the gay pirate from She-Ra
Now there were two other threads (one was a part 2). Those lasted very little. And then there was a long period of no threads. Until I decided that I was to become OP. And you know what they say about OP. So we get to:
On an unrelated note, know that between April and June of 2023 Cloudflare started to change the resolution of the pictures on 4chan. I just checked this. So every picture you downloaded from the threads without appending "?" followed by whatever you want (e.g. ?stargaze) in the URL of the picture were actually sold by Shang-Xu and if you use them they will enter in a cycle of continuous degradation as long as you use them.
(also I wanna say that I'm downloading the images again. In this thread you'll find the originals not tampered by Cloudflare.) >I've come up with a potential Rock-it design, or at least a first draft. Decided not to overthink it as much as I usually do, and make it so its clear him and Pum-mel come from the same warrior culture. Speaking of Pum-mel, I also made another version of her design that's a bit simpler and hopefully fits better. >For Rock-it I first considered having him be bald as I think some other concepts depicted him that way but then remembered Conshock is also bald so having two bald dads felt redundant. Instead I gave him a helmet he can maybe headbutt things with, one with a crystal looking rhino horn and the other being more like a crest/mohawk look. I also drew what he might look like without his helmet. Nothing is set in stone yet however (heh). If there's anything people like or dislike let me know.
Anon: >Go anon, pick a gadget for Comet and tell everyone how she ends up making a disaster with it. Another Anon: >ok so I have an idea, so Comet has a little blaster watch/gauntlet that shoots supersonic waves but sends her flying because she's small and light weighted And then gif related. I say Haw-ly Based! >Anon: Well we did it. Someone actually sat down and animated Comet. Unbelievable.
First of two Redshift files. This artist is very good. >Since Redshift is supposed to be the budget-sink character, but he'll probably join the party at some point, my proposal was to temporarily give him a gimmick that he could lose upon switching sides. I settled on a fiery sword meant to look like a solar prominence (tentative names: Flare/Arc/Corona Sword/Blade) that uses his blaster's power source. The blaster itself could be broken. Maybe, in the reboot, he could voluntarily distance himself from his family because he's a tragic, aloof figure or something. Now that I've read that his blaster has both the Light- and the Voidstar's powers, it could be a matter of lack of balance (symbolism?) and the sword could be more void-themed than fire-themed. Once he gets the final beating/lesson from SG and joins the team, he finally finds balance between light and dark (and Lanstar fixes his blaster, I suppose). >In any case, the toy would be pretty easy to make, just give him an orange transparent chainsword. Plus, he gets to have two versions of the same figure, one with the sword, one with the buster. The animation, however, would probably be extremely expensive because of his dynamic fighting style and the sword's special effects.
Anon: >Go anon, pick a gadget for Comet and tell everyone how she ends up making a disaster with it. Another Anon: >Her clothes are capable of storing electricity. They’re effectively a roaming wireless charger. She always ends up sucking so much electricity from her greedy, lousy nature, they end up exploding from being too overcharged. How can an artist be so based?
Anon talked about dresses made of leaves and then: >This actually made me come back to Ursa-la's design, here are some concepts I've played around with. Went with a leaf/bikini design with the addition of her classic leotard so the leaves are essentially the decoration/detail on her leotard so it doesn't look so plain. >I also included a little narrative in the notes for the reasons behind both the designs because that seemed fun. Feel free to give feedback on the design.
>Here's an alternate/updated Rock-it design based on some of your feedback, starting of course with the haircut. Made the pauldrons a little bigger and also spikier. Changed his armour slightly and gave him a bandolier. Also gave him a belt as a bonus. Hope you like this version. Old design here >>419761
>So, I am assuming the Cayns are more on the anthro side of things compared to say Ursa-la's species or the Baastanians, judging from this description. Having a distinctly animalistic head can provide a problem when working with the same general toy molds, so I came up with a theoretical design. The wolf head plus large fur "collar" part can be put onto a normal generic human body to transform them into a Cayns toy. Designed to fit both male and female molds.
>I'm playing around with the design I did that you think looks too much like mumm-ra, with the proportion thing is this the kind of deal you were thinking of? I quickly scribbled this to get an idea of a more unnaturally proportioned Nebulious when in robe form although I dunno if you just dislike the robe and mask in general. You can ignore the throne design if you don't like it as it's something I drew in a few seconds so he had somewhere to sit. >I do like the idea of him having gauntlet hands in addition to the mask.
>Anon: Imagine if she only wears that dress for a few days after the prisoner episode. >Artist: Don't be mean, at least allow her back her dignity once the mission is over. Yes. That episode.
>So, I myself decided to come back to my Star-ro design, specifically his armour. This is my first attempt at this rework, and personally I actually really like it. I decided to take the fantastical approach here mentioned 137964948 giving him almost more of a fantasy/swashbuckling look to him, while still obviously being a sci fi character. I really like how the collar + helmet combo looks here. And speaking of the helmet, I reworked it a bit so it was less blocky and a lot more sleek. The old one had a sort of crown/crenulations look to it but I always felt that 1: that made him look too much like a chess piece and 2: it didn't give him a very adventurous look. The curves and almost natural arrow shape of this new helmet I feel points him forward instead of upward which I feel fits his character better. I also based the belt design off this one here 137969827 because why not. >As for the scarf/cape, I just put that on because it looked cool. I dunno if the final design would have it, but I could definitely see attachable accessories resembling cool capes and such for him.
Anon suggested some changes to >>419783 The boxes are meant to say that there isn't a final design for the Royal Blaster. I hope the artist is having fun. That's the most important thing I think.
No picture? Because some countries aren't free. But it was a lewd of Comet. The last one I think. Remember not to lewd the cat, at least not officially. You should be allowed to do whatever with your imagination though.
>Not sure how you guys like your ninja bugs. Male characters were often less humanoid than their female counterparts, but maybe this is a bit overkill. I tried to make one of the faces Solo-like as 137990101 said, but it's no good, really. I also forgot the bandages. I wouldn't say that this is no good. But the stars are the limit, if one is inclined to reach them. Don't get spaced out tho'.
Comet-anon took the time to make an event to choose the design of Nebulious without the robe. Saying "based" isn't enough. >Alright, it's finally time for round 1 of our Nebulious design drafting. Here are 6 different thematic designs I quickly put together, so sorry if they are more rough than usual. None of the designs you see here will be final, even if one stands out to everyone as the best I'm still likely to tweak it before making anything final. I assigned each design a thematic name to make discussing them easier.
Or that's what I should say. But thread 20 lasted less than 100 replies and the only new pictures were a couple for the Nebulious Design Drafting. And I will add only the most relevant. So...
Final post of the Design Drafting. >Alright, here are some quick colour versions I threw together. I didn't take too much time into consideration over exactly what should be what colour, it was mostly just to see the colour schemes. Top two are based on the colour scheme of my original Nebulious design and the bottom two are new.
>I tried making Rock-It in a sumo-pose, but it looks more like he's doing a karate block. >I was having a hard time figuring out where his armor should end and where we should see his rock-body. Also not sure if I did a good job communicating that his legs are robotic.
>I have always been imagining him to have a body-type like Orga from Godzilla, with his jaws and face coming out a lot further forward from the rest of his body. And I like the idea of him having big frayed wires coming out of his back that he can use as tentacles and to attach to other machines and take them over/assimilate them.
>Played around with Rock-it and Pum-mel's designs a bit >Pum-mel's proportions and hairstyle slightly adjusted >Rock-it's helmet is changed to have more of a forward rhino like horn >Rock-it's legs changed to be more obviously robotic, at least compared to the old design.
>Drew a concept for Momet, on request of anon. Here's some of the thinking that went into the design >Based the head mostly off previous sketches, but included more distinct facial features to make her look more Baastanian. I don't know if the thing in her hair is a braid or some kind of fancy headband. >Some jewellery plays into her royal heritage, although her outfit is mostly simple for animation reasons. Realistically it'd probably be a lot more detailed >That said, one could say her current status as a political prisoner means she isn't going to dress very glamorously >Baastanians have tails, so the idea of a full rapping around long skirt seemed counterproductive for their culture. So their long skirts are instead consisted of separate overlapping flaps allowing the tail to slip through. >She has these long sock like garments on make her legs look less naked when you can see them between the flaps, but leave the feet exposed since people seemed to like the idea of her being barefoot. >Fingers and toes are clawed, not to a crazy extent but enough to make her look more cat-like.
>The eye/face lines I gave Sigil I sort of interpret as a more masculine feature, like an orangutan's face flaps or a lion's mane. The more prominent they are the more masculine a Baastanian is. so females would only have small dainty lines that don't cover much of the face. >Here are some quick adjustments I made, let me know your thoughts. Also whether the head thing works better as a braid or a headband, I don't know if the original anon who sketched that hairstyle is here to give their intention for it.
Anon: >Thanks for your contribution Drawfriend. I have one little problem tho: They look too European-inspired. Tamautians draw a lot of elements from Mongolia so, I feel we should reference that somehow. >Also dialy reminder that Baaatanian is a race. Tamautians are the asshat Baastanian living in Tamau. Artist: >Here's a second concept for this character design, taking a bit more from a mongolian aesthetic but still keeping the overall simple look.
>There's gotta be one huge pirate with tiny wings. There were a couple of WIP posted in the thread. This is the final version of the pirates, but one of the images had a sketch of the Bat Queen.
>Some Baastanian soldier concepts, specifically Tamau soldiers. The one on the left is a more common footsoldier, who could be seen guarding places of importance on Tamau, serving as crew aboard warships, guarding various colonies, and of course serving in large scale military campaigns on other worlds. The one on the right is a more specialised soldier, given special training to be effective at combat in the vacuum of space. These troops can serve as bodyguards to high priority figures, and also are the soldiers used when boarding an enemy ship in space combat. >The helmet design was one of the first things I pictured when I thought of Baastanian soldiers, so that's why it might not seem to fit the mongol theme as I had that idea before that theme was established. It was harder to incorporate the fancy details without it looking too fancy, since I can't go overly detailed. The pattern on the military officer is as detailed as I can probably get and to me it makes sense for his uniform to be fancier as he's higher ranking.
>Here's a quick concept for a wireshark body/maybe maul fin. This could be his first body, one of his later ones, etc. Let me know your thoughts. In terms of toy mechanics I could easily see the mouth designed so you can click a plastic projectile into a spring loaded mechanism inside the mouth which then launches when you press down on the fin.
>I tried to make him a pretty standard but still good looking devilish black knight sort of enemy Anons said that the villain of the pilot should be a sword guy to show how Stargaze obtains his Starsword Laser.
>I made a concept sketch for Cee-4. I couldn't remember if he was supposed to be a cyclops or have 4 eyes, this is supposed to he him with 4 eyes, the two on top are supposed to be telescopic eyes that can rotate around his head and then the set of eyes below them have the visor. I also had the idea that the power core or cannon in his chest could also be eye shaped. I was trying to make his arms look long and thin but still powerful, and his fingers having sharp claws. I envision him being able to make/carry around many different types of bombs from stick grenades to EMPs, time bombs and thermal detonating bombs.
>Here's another concept for Cee-4's head design. >The metal strainer looking eyes were changed to these for more expressiveness >I removed the two extended eye structures and instead put it on the eyepatch, which I also included. I also repositioned the rocket launchers.
>Was suddenly struck with inspiration so I put this WIP sketch together. Some kind of fish man, probably a villain? He's kinda ugly so villain is more likely. I took some features from the fish girl posted earlier like the black eyes, flat nose and straight hair so they may be the same species may not be (if they are he might just be a particuarly ugly member of the species, and/or just looks that way because he's older and male) >What's his deal? Well as a villain he could be a random one off dude they fight, or we could make him a member of the Sigil Brigade? Just to fill out that rogues' gallery a bit more.
>Random alien mooks/soldiers I felt like drawing. Maybe they can be minions of a specific villain, or just another rival alien faction that can be encountered.
An anon said that the characters didn't look like they came from the 80s. Comet-anon drew this for the discussion. IIrc, that anon never posted again. >Okay so I know I am supposed to be sleeping now but just quickly I wanted to put this together. This is a simplified version of Comet's design, keeping the more essential identifiable aspects of her look (stuff like how the face is drawn is just for ease of time in this instance)
>Anon: I don't see anything wrong with Comet's design as you made it until now. >For me its a bit of there being too much unnecessary detail on things like the weird belt thing she wears and her boots, which are the two biggest changes I made here. The belt thing especially I found annoying to draw at any angle except standing upright.
>>419855 Can you tell me why you think so? I'll repost it in the next thread if you don't wanna do it yourself, I'm not sure if many people really check this thread.
>Anon: I usually envision Scorpionic with reds and browns and maybe a bit of yellow in his color scheme. >Any closer? If you can be a bit more specific, I might be able to redraw him by next thread.
>Going back many threads, the name for the main body of Nebulious's forces were suggested to be called "Nebulious's Negators". So I tried to start sketching some ideas for the foot soldiers and things that will fill out the ranks of faceless minions that Nebulious would send out to back up his monsters of the week. >I imagine that the rank and file members of his army are a combination of robots and shadow spawn creatures and maybe some of those goblin boys.
An attempt at designing Star-rō's father in his disguise. At the time of this post, there isn't yet a final design for Ga-Leon/Penumbra.
>So, maybe starting with this quick sketch. Pretty simple, nothing crazy to begin with so we can build from it. How do we feel about it? Does it fit what we imagine for Penumbra? What can be done to improve it? >And of course, is it 80's enough? How can it be made more 80's styled, and what specific sources should I draw for from similarly designed 80's characters?
>Alright here is a bigger and hopefully more sturdy looking version of this design I quickly sketched. >(Artist? Anon?): I imagine the tail would be designed as to counterbalance the head, and maybe even act as a third tripod like leg for helping it stand up.
because another OP made a short lived thread. But we got pic related. >was making it a TV guide listing, I used a unicode character that wasn't supported originally so it didn't show up.
>C: We gave those evil space clowns a butt-kicking they won’t forget! >S: And now they know what it’s like to be the butt of the joke, assuming theirs aren’t too sore after today
Based on a sketch of an 'asteroid-eating goblin'. I don't know what these guys' deal is, other than eating asteroids, but I drew one anyway. This >>419839 is probably the sketch the drawfriend is talking about.
>I adored the picture of Comet used for last thread's opening post, so I did a quick head shot in a bit of a different style. Contrasted here with my last picture of Comet, the first picture I ever drew for these threads. Contrast with this >>419737
>I feel like her and Shang-Xu should have some kind of relationship. They're both rodents, they're both of questionable moral fiber, and they're both more brains than brawn. I feel like you could get a lot of corny animal puns out of their interactions. At the very least, Shang-Xu could sarcastically compare her to an angel.
>I tried to make a couple of more pics with Robo-puppy using a few of his abilities; extendable legs, a boxing glove punch that can come from his chest, and a rocket booster. Do we have a list or chart of the gadgets/abilities we want Robo-puppy to be able to use?
A bit of context for this one: the letter above are from a video on protowriting, while... >The ones below that are just some proto sinaitic I was gonna add for filler before I got distracted and did something else. >The last one is a writing system I made for a project that I released to the creative Commons called Lunatic. It says Comet and Star-Ro: Stargaze in the script >https://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/orsonzedd/lunatic-script The drawings are based on >>419892 and on a picture by Ghost/Charen-anon of "Angel-form Star-rō".
>I chose a goofier face to make him seem approachable and endearing to people who might just randomly see him. Someone unassuming but you'd intrinsically want a beer with.
Yes, I'll add this too. >I think the glove shape for Stargaze looks cool, I do think one thing we should consider while redesigning him is that the idea is that he's also a line of toys, so it would be a good idea to make sure that the frills on the elbow end of the glove wouldn't be easy to snap and become a choking hazard for small kids
>I like this: 142378098 [>>419744], but I see the need for a simplified, more toyetic design (like someone mentioned, the star-shaped rondels on his pauldrons are a choking hazard). I'm thinking He-Man style arms and legs, with Colossus-like metal banding to make them mesh with the armour. The arm blaster is mandatory - everyone loves Samus and Megaman - but it could have a handle on the inside that a regular grippy hand could attach to, so it can be removed. >The star motif could use some work, and so could the blaster. It would be great if we could work a star into its design, somehow, since it's clearly Stargaze's emblem. In fact, I think a star should be his family crest, since he's supposed to be royal.
>These are my concepts for the low ranking minions of Wire Shark that he sends out to back up his monsters of the week. >The concepts are piranha drones, the weakest ones that become a threat with swarm tactics. >Advanced piranha drones, basically the same except they have a detachable humanoid body so they can walk, grab and shoot with laser rifles. >Swordfish warrior bots, a slightly stronger minion with sword and lance. >Tuna tanks, the heavily armored ground forces >Whale shark ships that make up Wire Shark's naval forces >Angler assassins, based on deep sea angler fish they are assassin bots that Wire Shark uses for stealth and precision strikes.
>I imagine him with large metal legs and a large shark tale as well, and I usually think of him wearing robes like a wizard or a judge, again going with the law/magician idea
>Refined this a bit for the sake of my ego, then I looked at the previous pictures of Stargaze. I pictured him as being a lot younger, apparently. And having more hair.
Or I should say, Star-rō, Ursa-La, Koh-mekt (Haw-ly), Rok-ith, Blăkk-ar. A based drawfriend gave us the 2000 version of Stargaze and the Sentinels of Starlight, titled Stargazer I guess. This was originally posted in a /coc/ thread. More to follow.
