>5/10 The more you learn about its production and cut ideas, the more you'll hate how the final movie turned out lol There's a fucking reason why /co/ talked about this flop more than almost every recent animated movie that wasn't Spider-Verse back on 4chan

>>478306 The big one is that Chelsea wasnt gonna be Nerissa Her backstory was gonna be 100 percent genuine and there would be hints that Agatha felt immense guilt and shame over legacy as the "Siren Slayer" Chelsea would have never been redeemed and by all accounts they just sweep up Agatha feeling guilt over her warrior past but the potential being right fucking there drove Anons mad. Every week we learned more about this movie and the more we learned, the more frustrated we became.
>>478323 Oh so thats why ruby and chelseas dynamic feels so real, it was at one point. I guess they just needed their twist villain for some reason so they could do the giant action climax.
Me personally i dont think a movie about teenage fish requires a bunch of kids movie isms
>>478397 The dynamic was agreed by most Anons to be one of the better parts of the film (until the last 15 minutes) DreamWorks kept revising the story over and over again but they never realized that audiences would have LIKED Ruby and Chelsea staying friends or figured their chemistry was too good to dismantle like that. We also concluded that making Chelsea pure evil is a marketing disaster. Not because "evil races is bad" but because of how hard it is to sell a film that's basically about two teenage girls being unlikely best friends after finding out their shared loneliness despite their upbringing teaching to hate each other out of principal and a bloody feud between their people.....only for the literal last 15 minutes to reveal one of the girls really was completely evil this whole time. When you stop to think about it like that, you get why the marketers had to spoil the twist villain reveal in almost every piece of promotional material because imagine audiences going in blind not knowing Chelsea was evil.
>>478397 Here's the incredibly weird thing, shortly after the film came out we got interviews and director's commentary that Chelsea DID feel for Ruby and sympathized with her isolation but that ultimately went nowhere. She also wasnt lying about the whole "Remaining mermaids are literally hiding out of fear of being killed" part
>>478637 Yeah, its bizarre they felt like toning down Chelsea's backstory but at the same time felt the need to still have those brief moments where Chelsea genuinely seemed to care i.e. the restroom scene where IIRC Ruby wasn't even looking at her
>>479647 They focused on Ruby, her family and Chelsea. All of the Grubhubians look like trash and like they don't belong in the same movie. Only cute one is Bliss, and only if you sorta like cute-ugly girls
>>478637 Now if they do their dreamworks series of this it will have to be a redemption of ruby having to babysit nerissa and stop the other mermaids from taking over all while trying to navigate her new life as more popular without that black dude because he went to LA or some shit
>>478244 Fucking worthless and the only reason anyone cares is because cerain characters in it make good r34 fodder. This thing has no right nor reason to exist, beyond that. The only reason it gets any free pass is because Home was considered worse, due to having black people in it as the main characters, because 4chan be racist like that and nothing else.
>>478244 Home was better, as much as that sucked, tol. Or at least Home had better material based off of it. This crap felt like a hate letter to Disney because it wanted so bad to be The Little Mermaid in the modern day, besides all the other things wrong with it.
It's only because of r34 that this crap hangs on in people's minds and not much else.
>>481803 Thank you reasonable anon, for being reasonable. Not too many realize why removing that was an improvement.
Plus, it actually creates a story problem, maybe even a plot hole. If Zootopia is supposed to be a predator/pray co-existence grand experiment, WHY the FUCK would predators even move there, knowing how they would get treated?? They would rather build their own city, even if that way is way harder.
