Genuinely depressing.

The Breadwinner was pretty good for an adaptation of something that's vaguely current events relevant / political. Though for that one I suppose "Taliban Bad" is a pretty easy stance for most people to get behind. This will no doubt be more divisive.
Hopefully their next movie will be an original

In the book it is apparently a kid just wanting to join a parade where people dress up as mer-people so it may not even be supernatural outside of fantasy sequences or whatever.

They've always been very liberal, which is to be expected from a small art studio. Tomm Moore himself is a vegan

There is a pretty big jump between a politically liberal team making heartfelt mostly apolitical movies (outside of The Breadwinner) that can be enjoyed by all but the craziest religious zealots and them making a movie about black trans kid. That isn't just a modern political topic it is a controversial one even among left-wingers.

I have seen Breadwinner, and will rate it's political message as "very sane". It's a political message most people can agree with.

Anon, it is literally a movie about a crossdressing little boy based on a children's book that the author was inspired to make after she met a troon and the whole mermaid theme was chosen entirely due to their significance to trans people. It was about drag queens until she learned about that connection. There is really no talking about this movie without it coming up.

I looked through the picture book it's based off of and eh, it could be worse. No doubt the /pol/ types will decry it as the fall of western civilization that some kid wants to dress up fruity. I can't imagine the moralizing will be much more than a generic "we should accept different people and let them be creative(tm)"

Yeah, if the author didn't come out and say it was actually a trans thing I would think it was a book about how we should let kids have fun without sticking too hard to gender roles. Y'know like things were in the early 2000's before we started pumping kids who played with the wrong toys full of chemicals.
The movie will probably lean into it a little more though if only because there isn't much substance to the book and they need to stretch the plot to fill an hour and a half.

I am curious what they'll do to fill it. There's a bunch of cliches you could add: school bully who secretly wants to join in, dead parents that somehow tie into the reason he wants to dress up as a mermaid, school principal/other authority figure trying to stop him, etc

They are definitely going to have at least one of those. My guess is his dad or grandpa or some other male relative. I'll bet the main thing they use to fill time is extended fantasy sequences.

The dramatic increase in homosexual behavior among the general population is a direct consequence of this kind of propaganda, and one of it's purposes is to supress birthrates in order to give reverse justification for replacement migration. State-sex-education and its consequences have been disasterous for the human race. A person literally does not need to be taught about sex in order to have sex. Sex is hardcoded in your dna, your hips will literally move on their own if you accidently find yourself in a sexual experience with no prior knowledge. This is true for every organism on this planet. Force a male and female together long enough and sex happens.

But when you decide to 'teach' children about sex, you can interupt this natural process. You can socialize them into believing things that aren't true, or trick them into adopting maladeptive breeding strategies. Mass adoption of homosexuality is the biggest example of this. Why are so many zoomers gay? Because someone told them they could be. Without that option on the table, many never would have been. Same with the transgender movement. These ideologies are basically mind viruses, they exist to subvert the idea that sex = reproduction, and replace it with the idea that sex = recreation. Children should not be learning these things, nor should they be encouraged to expore these ideas before they mature and can make informed decisions. The same moral logic we collectively agree upon that exists to prevent an adult from molesting a child should also apply to teachers from misguiding that same kid.

People are not born gay, they are taught to be gay. And as a society that claims 'our failing birthrates are a problem' that makes training people to avoid the responsibility of reproduction a kind of social harm.
