>>473833 I understand that he was made very early in /co/'s lifespan, but still, there's no cartoon aspects about him, he could've at least had Mickey Mouse gloves or something. I know cartoon fandoms weren't really big back then yet, and comics already had an established niche fandom, but still, the design could've at least tried to represent both sides of the board, because as time went on and cartoons became more popular, while comics just kept stagnating, the /co/nrad design makes absolutely no sense for a board that is mainly about cartoons, with comic barely ever actually being discussed.
>>473824 I didn't read Judge Dredd until I saw anons say he's a comic from my country and I asked anon how I get it, "Yeah uh there's a whole website where you can just order a set of the original comics in one book", and ever since I've been hooked.
I almost wanted to look through old Spider-man stuff because /co/ had a storytime at one point for all the original black suit stories. Almost.
The Ride™ introduced me to all flavours of comic/cartoon Sonic, and that helped me make a friend outside of /co/. It's surprising how little of it is good.
I think me getting BtAS was entirely because of /co/. I wish I had a DVD version of it because then I could put it into my PC and bluray players are like smartphones, they all have hardware problems.
>>473880 I know, but if I had to judge /co/ solely by the board-tan, I'd assume it's a board ONLY about comics, there's nothing about him that says "& Cartoons" to me. And don't tell me he represents capeshit cartoons cause that's still just comic adaptations.
>>473909 I only remember /co/ genuinely talking about cartoons when the Hub was around. Out of that it was mostly waifu threads that are all interchangeable, as people really say the same shit about all animated girls, be it capeshit, Netflix gorefest, or preschool pastel talking animals.
>>473909 /co/nrad is supposed to look like The Spirit, an old comic book character before capeshit was called capeshit In a way he's supposed to be the spirit of comics and cartoons Also no one really uses board tans anymore, not even /v/
>>473824 The site will be back in a week at worse. I'm not too bothered about it going down anyways, I've been bored of /co/ and only check it out of habit.
I am genuinely thankful for how much stuff the board has introduced me to though; there's all sorts of shows and comics that I probably wouldn't have heard of otherwise- especially all of the obscure webcomics scattered about.
>>473947 I am aware of his design inspiration anon, he's one of them old timey well-dressed pulp heroes. But again, that still only represents comics, a more balanced board-tan would take inspiration both from Comics & Cartoons, both pulp heroes and classic animation like Disney or Looney Tunes, but /co/nrad only does half of that. >In a way he's supposed to be the spirit of comics and cartoons By taking inspiration from a character that never even got an animated adaptation? Please anon, you don't have to lie, I'm just pointing out the obvious, /co/nrad doesn't represent cartoons in any way.
>>473824 Lucky Penny and Octupus Pie were really good. Went ahead to do my own digging for 3 more comics. I'd have probably found out about Hilda in one way or another though.
>>474050 I'm just saying, not a very good character design tbqfh desu. Whoever designed him really should've known cartoon fandoms would eventually overtake /co/ and the internet in general.
>>473824 > comics A fair amount As far as animation, it helped me become aware of certain things (like finding out about Flow before others did, from a festival, so when I got the invite to see an advanced screening here in Los Angeles, which isn't anything special as it's pretty common here, I was able to go and catch it and hear a Q&A with Gints and some of the other folks who worked on it.
Cartoons are too insular and unless you are hidden under a rock most of the time, you will pretty much be aware even with the amount of really bad, cheap CGI crap that is pushed out every year, even direct to DVD crap. It's comics where it's pretty easy to miss out on stuff even if you really committed and I don't have the patience for that any more.
Image:174475448537.jpg(2.63MB, 2662x1774)12x8 euro nonanglo comics aj95.jpg
>>473824 >comics A lot of Euro comics, but only a few webcomics. Standouts: Days That Disappear, and others by Timothe Le Boucher Blacksad BLAST by Manu Larcenet Cybersix Elric the Ruby Throne Pachyderme by Frederik Peeters From Hell Herakles I Kill Giants I killed Adolf Hitler, Jason Beautiful Darkness by Kerascoet Beauty by Kerascoet Miss Don't Touch me Satania by Kerascoet Mr. Ash Tuesday Mutafukaz, Dark Meat City 2015 Sand Grain Theory Prophet 2012 (Image revival) Siegfried, Alex Alice Sky Doll The Motherless Oven, The Can Opener's Daughter, by Rob Davis The Swindling Indies Anya's Ghost Wrinkles (Arrugas), and others by Paco Roca Usagi Yojimbo
Long LONG ago, Geronimo Stilton (did not grow up reading the books, the cartoon came out of nowhere for me). Then Spark (2017), if not for 1 anon constantly reminding /co/ the movie is in production, I would not see it in a theater. And last year, one anon asked for someone to record a region locked show off an australian site. That is how I ended up with a rip of Mystery Lane, a fucking amazing show, one of the few really good things Gisnep co-produced recently. I mean, a Current Year production, and yet the writing is not preachy and no one is toxic.
Soon after I first got there, I ran into a "The Three Caballeros Ride Again" storytime, which was my introduction to the Caballeros and my re-introduction to Don Rosa.
Homestuck. Someone posted the walkabouts to /f/ and I was "what the fuck is this, why are people losing their minds over this." And I got on the train. and lost my mind.
>>473824 I started reading DC stuff because /co/. Mostly Giffen's run on Justice League, then anything with Booster Gold or Blue Beetle I could. The hype around Blackest Night also had me read a few things and other event books. Some indie stuff I have forgotten but I Kill Giants sticks with me.
For cartoons whatever was streamed back when that was aloud, especially movies. Secret of Kells was my favorite to watch with /co/ for a while. It was also fun to watch things as they were coming out. Fondest memories are of Transformers Animated threads and Batman Brave and the Bold.
I would also read webcomics of /co/mrades that were regulars to the board. But all I remember is ColeSquid at this point.
>>474493 I became of aware of nick and other shows aimed at audiences of an age that I haven't been since before I lurked 4chinz. Like Owl House and Steve Universe. And while I'll watch Lego direct to DVD and other stuff that's meant to be family family, and can even enjoy some Curious George when I am home sick and Kids PBS is the only TV that I can stomach, most shows meant for kids just are too teletubbies for my last frazzled nerve.
>>474518 it's ok. It's become one of my favorite shows once I started actually watching through it a month and a half ago. it's amazing and I wish more people knew about it
Thankfully it doesn't seem to be truly over, but to answer the question it's mostly been a lot of recent output by Disney and CN that I would've never heard of otherwise. I was one of the "lucky" people that was able to binge Star VS. from start to finish without any waiting (and I barely remember most of it but still remember enjoying watching it.)
>>474509 Honestly Wakfu/Doofus are the series I most associate with plus4chan from back in the day. Remember there was a pinned thread filled with download links for the episodes and such.
>>474522 definitely. It just felt so nice to be able to obsess over a cartoon with more than 1 season for a change. I'm usually stuck in one season hell with the shows that attract my attention. 8 whole season of KS is just the right amount for me
>>474532 >I'm usually stuck in one season hell with the shows that attract my attention. Christ, that's the amount of seasons a few of my favorite shows have. Gary & Mike, as great as that show is, has a cliffhanger that will never be resolved. It never even got a rushed ending like Inside Job, which is another show I lament the loss of.
>>474536 Gary & Mike, thats one I still need to finish. I have this bad habit of watching...4 episodes of a show in a row then forgetting to ever watch anymore. It's so cool having more than one show in the style of Celebrity Death Match.
Undergrads is a show that ended on a cliffhanger for me. >inb4 but the movie it's never happening. I've decided to stop taking the copium. even if it does it's gonna be weird and awkward and bad probably. maybe I'm just being pessimistic though.
one of the all timer short lived shows for me is stressed eric which in all fairness got TWO seasons (or series as those wacky brits like to call em.) genuinely such an under appreciated show. it sucks that the widest exposure it has is a mr enter review where he complains about it being "2 MEANSPIRITED!!!!!!"
>>474537 >2 MEANSPIRITED!!!!!! Kek, I'm actually one of the few weirdos who thought certain post-movie SpongeBob episodes were funny BECAUSE of the mean-spiritedness.
>>474539 exactly! complaining about a cartoon being too mean spirited just doesn't make any sense to me. sometimes people are....MEAN! sometimes it's FUNNY to watch something bad happen to someone. We don't need to sand off the edges of every single cartoon that comes out, it won't make them better. Some cartoons are mean, some aren't, some are a mix, and all of the above is perfectly fine. Simple as. Post movie spongebob gets too bad of a rap in general. It's more of a mixed bag than anything but some people really just get deranged over it when there are definitively great and classic episodes that have come out during that era.
we had 7 fucking janitors and none of them did anything about the board schizos one of them was also a janitor for /a/ and most likely is the one who was babysitting EvW threads
>>474566 >one of them was also a janitor for /a/ and most likely is the one who was babysitting EvW threads Odds on him being the one who kept deleting posts pointing out Duck Nuns weren't actually /co/ and actually from a Japanese artist? I kind of figured he got kicked out since eventually the threads stopped coming
>>474599 Perispammer's spammed Peridot's anus so much that a storytime saved on Desuarchive glitched out and replaced one of the pages with Peridot's anus It's fixed now but I think that was the one time I was genuinely pissed at him
A lot of Comics and Animated shows I would have never known about cause of language barriers/distribution to channels/streaming sites. basically >>474382
Probably would have never discovered Camp Camp if it wasn't for 4chan, and that show quickly became one of my favorites, so I'll give it the tiny speck of credit it deserves.
>>474629 I expect the sitemasters are rushing to patch up everything and get it working again because of just how many people use 4chan on a daily basis. It's already the longest amount of time it's been out in years.
>>474509 FUCK, completely forgot about that. Before finally watching the show properly a few years ago, in 2009-2011 I seen a few random episodes on streams hosted by /co/mrades.
>>473824 Tons, the only reason I ended up on 4chan way back when was because of comics in the first place. They only way for me to "read" them was by watching reviewers on Youtube but I grew frustrated with the way they skipped pages or chunks of a page and talked over the whole thing which I wasn't into.
More recently I give /co/ credit for reintroducing me to "Leave it to Chance" a few months back, that's a book I must've read at the library or something when I was probably a toddler because every cover I saw for the issues hit me like lightning. Empowered, K6BD, The while Illuminated Wars parody, JL8, Forming - maybe I would've come across those without /co/ but in this world it was where I heard about them first
Requiem Chevalier Vampire and Olivers other works, that other French comic with the little witch apprentice, Meg Mogg and Owl, theres so many books to choose I was there for so long
I was always kinda passive with comics and cartoons consumption, watching what is popular and easily available. Overall /co/ led me to appreciate Original english dubs more (I'm french), and showed me more cape comics than what our media offers.
>>473824 I mostly followed during DC Rebirth, but what made me come back every year was Usagi Yojimbo. Best comic. Insane how Usagi is mostly known as TMNT-adjacent lore, but his own comic book is so much better.
>>474708 hopefully only for a few more months. But there are still many places in France where fiber isn't available because it wasn't profitable to install a line for the amount of people living there. they voted a law last year to force 100% coverage soon so they are finally finishing the job.
>>473824 People having mental breakdowns over Bluey made me check it out. Very well done show, but I’d only recommend it for autists or parents. Also let me know that The Raccoons has HD remasters being uploaded on Youtube, and I’ve been meaning to check Geronimo from the /co/ threads
It got me to read a bunch of stuff like pinky and peper, blacksad, diffent cape runs, irredeemable, comics by cate wurtz. I came from anime so it also made me discover that I loved cartoons as much as anime and that animation as a medium is magical.
>>473824 There's too much to talk. Thanks to /co/, I got introduced to: >The Dandy outside of Bananaman (thank Minifig for those Fun Size Dandy storytime threads) >All those eastern cartoons Augie keeps spamming >Apparently the rarely promoted ARK cartoon because Paramount Plus barely hyped it up (only known about it because of the Game Awards trailer and forgot it existed) >Stonetoss (because why not) >Crabgrass because of that arc when Miles had a crush on Kevin's mom got spammed in boards >Rosebuds in a similar reason (became one of my favorite webcomics because of those threads) >.......... Meusaad (because of one spammer) >And any Sunday Funnies comic strip outside of Popeye, Garfield, Peanuts, Nancy, etc. The 3/17/2024 thread was my (and some anons) introduction to Wannabe surprisingly enough.
>>473824 >Comics Ward Sutton's Kelly strips Robert Crumb's stuff, I only knew him for the Fritz the cat movie Omaha the Cat dancer (shockingly kino) Sabrina online (It's mediocre once Zigzag is introduced but the early chapters are good) >Cartoons Felidae Atlantis The Clone Wars microseries Watership down Tragedy of Man (I love this one, I imported a blu ray from Hungary just to own it)
>>473824 Too many to count. The JSA storytime thread alone pretty much familiarized me with the whole of the DC Universe circa 2006. Fewer cartoons, and almost all of them from the era back when 4chan still allowed mogulus threads.
