>>473658 Whirl is emotionally immature, so they needed some way to visually represent that, and the twintails/helicopter blades parallel makes for a decent sight gag. Also, the psychopathic girlchild archetype was still big in pop culture back then.
And then there's this... https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Whirl%27s_friend
>>473639 I'm gonna sound like a wuss but after reading digital for so long I'm hesitant to read anything expensive or rare physically because I get worried I'd damage it. Huge physical copies just became more like display decorations for me unless they have stuff that isn't scanned or ripped.
>>473826 That's a totally reasonable concern, considering the compendium will probably sell out immediately and a number of those buying up copies will be scalpers, who will rapidly become the only source for new or replacement copies.
I for one can't wait to see how Megatron fucks with starscream. Also does this site have a /toy/ thread. I would like to talk about my official and third party transformers
>>477173 The new run of Transformers comics by Skybound Entertainment, also I am silly because the issue this month released earlier than I thought on the 9th, and I already read it and forgot.
>>477279 >What's the writing like? Not him but it's basically Geewun fare aside from big twists at the start. That isn't to say it's bad or anything, far from it. It's great People have gripes over its violence but it's honestly not that different compared to what Dreamwave and IDW was offering.
>>477279 The writing okay, the story itself is a retelling of G1 with some characters and their motivations changed around. One difference is that it ties into a large OC universe, with both GI Joe and Skybound's OC Void Rivals storyline relating back to the Transformers story (although there's been only minor references in the TF comic itself). The Void Rivals run does have TF characters if you REALLY like Season 3 of the G1 cartoon check it out I guess. The biggest standout is the action, the artist/writer for the first 6 issues previously drew a pro wrestling comic, so the whole comic is basically action scene after action scene with characters being dramatic in between. I thought it was kind of exhausting after awhile reading it monthly, but it might flow better reading it all at once. My only real complaint is how a few characters are written, namely Ultra Magnus.. The issues drawn by DWJ and Jorge Corona look amazing though and is worth checking out for the spectacle alone.
>>477861 Hey, thanks for the reply. That DWJ art do be lookin' pretty damn fine.
>I thought it was kind of exhausting after awhile reading it monthly, but it might flow better reading it all at once. Good to know. Guess I'll wait until the book ends, then binge it.
>My only real complaint is how a few characters are written It wouldn't be Transformers if we didn't take issue with how at least one character is written.
I don't really care for the story or mythology of Transformers, all I feel is that Optimus Prime is the coolest design ever and was the coolest toy when I was a kid.
>>481531 >>481532 What's really lame about this fight is that you have two characters with sound-based powers fighting it out with lasers and fists. You don't even get a sense that anger has made them forget their abilities and reduced them to brute savagery.
The Sunbow cartoon had plenty of shortcomings, but it at least took a little interest in who the characters are and what can be done with them, even if the results were often goofy >>245857
Which Transformers origin do you prefer? >Quintesson labor and military force >naturally occurring gears, levers and pulleys >Primus saying "let there be incandescence"
>>481853 Because my very first comic book I ever read was Transformers: The Primal Scream, I am very fond of the Primus/Unicron fight origin. I just love the mythology that all transformers on Cybertron were created by Primus as his last-ditch effort to slay his foe, a climactic grand cosmic battle between gods of order and chaos. It also means it's easier to not get hung up on weird aesthetic details like "why are there men and women transformers" because you can answer "Primus Wills It."
>>481870 >It also means it's easier to not get hung up on weird aesthetic details like "why are there men and women transformers" because you can answer "Primus Wills It." Good answer!
>>481853 >Quintesson labor and military force It's frustrating how S3 introduced this idea only to do nothing with it.
>>481870 >I am very fond of the Primus/Unicron fight origin. Same. I know some fans hate it when comics diverge from show canon, but I don't think anyone liked S3's Unicron origin story.
>>481870 It's cool how "Legacy of Unicron" gave Primus the same outline as Rodimus, making him resemble the Transformer that'd eventually destroy his ancient foe.
That symmetry got lost in the Marvel US comic where Primus still looked like Rodimus but it was Optimus that destroyed Unicron... but the writing was so good it didn't matter.
