Young Princess Carolyn - also, maaan this episode was great. Seeing what sort of place and family she came from just makes me respect her even more. She is one of the best characters on BoJack Horseman, despite how "fate" always makes her life miserable, she never gives up.

Watched their animation-sheet teaser. Man they are really trying to ape Gumball with both the animation style and the snarky kid+honest best friend+bitchy sister dynamic. And the situations are about as bonkers too as on Gumball, though I question how many kids even play on PC rigs these days to understand that part. Overall, not terrible but not particularly interesting.

And by afford I meant "with rich parents".


They made short animations before, this is their first "big" work. It looks simple because they cannot afford to have more detail on a tiny, borderline nonexisting budget. They are making a new thing because Hasbro forced them to stop making fan animations forever.

Yep, you cannot take screenshots in any way (I tried Fraps or various other means), you just get a black box, because some idiot thought people would use it to take screencaps of every frame and remake the movie. The show isn't that great or well written, but there is a little dept here and there. I liked that Tricerachops honestly believes the Dino-Men are a tribe and they need to look out for each other. So she thought she was fighting to free Terropteryx - she is shocked and surprised when Maximus tells them they are nothing and he can just make more dino-men to replace them. I expect she will eventually break away from him like she did in the comics.

Episode 5 is where it finally gets deep - Tricerachops tries to genuinely talk Super Dinosaur into joining the other Dino-Men, and to live with his own people, and she isn't just tricking him for Maximus, she genuinely feels they belong together.

There's a preschool show on Netflix called Super Monsters, which despite having werewolves and other monsters has not presented any females of the anthro variety, until now at least. This orange dragon lady is the mother of Spike (who at sunset turns into a little dragon boy who takes after his mother in appearance). Sadly we don't have a name for her yet, be she has a nice voice, can fly and create dark clouds from her breath.

No, the Gyropuddlians are more like a backdrop to this episode, Louie had enough of adventuring and tries to do a game night, which of course Scrooge, being competitive, wants to win. Meanwhile, Gyro shows up with a shrinking/micro-phone device as he discovered a race of microscopic people living in the manor (whom he promptly names after himself), and tries to start an adventure, only to be accidentally shrunken down. The Gyropuddlians are on cavemen levels of tech, and only speak their own grunting language, plus are all dog-people. Still I like the skinny girl.

Interlacing was invented when there was not enough bandwith to transfer a full frame of 480 horizontal lines (before PAL was even invented) over the airwaves. No one wanted 240 lines of resolution, and no one wanted a screen that refreshes 30 times a second (CRT just flickers too much for such a slow refresh). So the decision was made to remove half the information from every frame, letting your eye pretend the information is still there. It is a cheap trick, but it worked. 1080i was invented for HDTVs when either the channel or the cable service had low bandwith.

480i60 and 576i50 were invented ONLY for CRTs. And since DVDs were ALSO invented for CRTs, that is why so many DVDs are made lazily, ignoring the fact we now live in the age of progressive scan.

It means the video draws half the odd lines and then half the even lines for each frame. This halves bandwidth costs as well as effective vertical resolution. In the CRT days, this was very efficient because CRTs had a phosphor glow that masked this effect. MPEG2 coding on DVDs were made with this in mind too, and modern channels using mpeg2 followed suit.

On digital displays, interlacing is very, very noticeable and ugly, so we moved beyond it... ever so slowly.

I am biased of course since I love the movie, but IMHO the werewolf design in Van Helsing is kind of the best werewolf model/design I have seen in movies. They are anthro humanoid, totally fur-covered unlike those old wolfman movies with the weird chimpanzee-like "werewolves", have proper snouts, digitigrade legs, are well muscled, and I like the pointy long ears too. But I only realized now when I saw the designs next to each other that each of the three werewolves in the movie has a different head design too, given that they each shapeshift from a different person. :)
