Keith was always the leader and pilot of the Black lion in the originals. Lance is in the Red lion, and Shiro/Sven was Blue and the "quiet one" until he gets replaced by the princess.

So think we'll see some Power Ranger styled plot points? I could see Pidge being injured and her brother taking over for a bit. Maybe becoming more of the ship support staff as she recovers before her brother leaving to go back to earth and going back to the lion.

Shiro and his PTSD is intresting. Guess that point of character development really connected with them in the LoK book 4.

Quite the opposite, this show is going as minimal with the romance as possible with very little in the way of explicit ship teasing outside of a few jokes with Lance/Allura, and slight hints with Hunk/Shay. None of that throwing us into bullshit love triangles only a few episodes in, and so far they're having the decency to have the characters interact with each other in meaningful ways first so that if any of them were going to get in a relationship it would feel more organic than Bopal, Makorra, or Korrasami.

I assume you mean the fans? Because I didn't see anything in the show that resembled shipping for either of those pairings. The only moments that even seemed to come close to shipping in the show itself was the others teasing Hunk about Shay. The only other moment I can think of where they even mentioned something about attraction was that joke about how "The way to bring out the best in a man is to have a beautiful woman be really, really mean to him." Which wasn't even shipping--it was just a gag.

Aside from what you mentioned and Lance hitting on the princess the show itself is free of even the slightest ship hints, and that makes it a lot better than Korra which plunged us into romance shit starting from episode 3.

If I were them, I would kill off a different character from Shiro just because the audience would be expecting Shiro to die. And if the rest of the audience is like me, killing off Lance or Pidge would be a much bigger gut punch than killing off Shiro....or even Hunk. They did mention that Hunk's "hat" was self-sacrifice in the opening movie...

They might do a 1:1 repeat of original Voltron where Shiro is critically injured but not dead so Allura has to take over until he recovers. Right now they're setting up too much with him so he's not likely to die, not in the near future at least. Also Keith is just too boring and a dick to take over without pissing people off.

For that same reason, killing Keith off would be a cop-out with no real emotional torque to it though. They need to give Keith some focus in Season 2 so we have a reason to give a shit about him. And they have a perfect chance to, thanks to everyone being separated.

Robeast gets beaten down, Pidge cannot bring herself to finish them.

Robeast pulls the weapon toward its head "Katie, please."

She lets out an anguished scream as she blows and or shears the monsters head clean off with the rest of the body hitting the ground with a soundless thud as the lions break off and Pidge flees into a wormhole.

Back at the castle they all argue about finding Pidge and how. Shiro proposing to just give her some time others saying they need to find her now.

Allura slips away finding where the Green Lion is located and taking Pidge's modified shuttle to its location.

She finds Pidge slumped against a tree. Allura sits down and shares a story about the last time she did something with her father.

Pidge just stares off across the ocean as Allura tells her tale of happier days before the war. Pidge then rolls over and hugs Allura sobbing quietly telling how much this hurts. Allura just gives her a reassuring hug telling her "I know".

Someone did a writeup of the highlights from the SDCC panel.

I was wondering whether Voltron fandom would be hit with massive shipwank like Avatar. Looks like we've found our new Zutara, and it's apparently Lance/Keith, with Shiro/Keith being their Kataang kryptonite.

Well maybe a little from Keith towards Shiro at the beginning, but it was for like one scene, and it never showed up again. So the trailer for S2 is out now. I suspect all the "Shiro is kill" foreshadowing to be a fakeout since I don't think they'd tease it this hard otherwise. Most likely he'll be injured/unable to pilot, but I doubt they'll remove him from the show altogether.

Clearly he just gets badly injured and is gone for a few seasons when he makes his triumphant return, but the Japanese dub rewrites it so that he dies and a twin brother takes his place instead.

So apparently there is going to be a Japanese dub released for this show when the second season comes out. Haven't seen any official news for it but that's what the Japanese fans seem to be saying. Curious if they're going to get any of the old Golion voice actors to do any roles here, since afaik the show was incredibly obscure over there.

I started watching this and stopped about 3 episodes in. It was too much anime style in both writing and story for my tastes.

Yeah, but the pacing in all the episodes afterward was dreadful. I tried really hard to get into the show as a huge fan of the 80's show when I was little and as someone who really liked the potential the pilot showed, but they made it really difficult to love the series itself.

From what I heard they were written by two totally different people. Pilot tackled themes of actual political complexity, later episodes had nice art and character designs but were way more generic and focused too much on the stupid Tigra/Cheetara/Lion-O love triangle.
