I don't think that really fits the setting. Outside of the Gefendur gods, who may or may not be alive depending on whether Ssaelism is true or not, there aren't really any 'divine' creatures. There's senet beasts, like the walking tree from the first chapter or Uaid's baby ogre body, but they aren't really divine in that sense. They were the first creatures the Gods created, so they made them immortal and unchanging. They also don't reproduce. But there's not, like, any particular penalty for mistreating them - and indeed, their bodies are the source of the First Materials that make pymarics work, so many varieties of them have been hunted to extinction.
I'm not sure I myself have a coherent theory as to Sette's nature and origins (besides the possibility that she might have been artificially constructed in Mikaila's image as a control mechanism for Duane) but there definitely seems to be some connection between her and the inner workings of the khert. Not only can she get inside of it which is unusual, she seems to be able to manipulate memory by hand, like when she tore open Murkoph's prison or poked through to that memory of a ritual sacrifice. In the case of Murkoph's prison, she tries using her knife, but it can't affect the memory walls. Only her bare hands have any luck.
Then there's her relationship with pymarics. She seems to have an unusual affinity for ghosts and intelligent constructs: her pet gossamer spider Boo is the prime example, but there was also that time she made Swarm drop Duane during the big pymary rumble - Quigley said, after he took the scarf back, "What's wrong with you, Swarm? Since when do you listen to other people?", implying that normally, even if someone were to take the scarf from him, the beast it projects would not listen to anyone but him. Given that intelligent pymarics are programmed by blending different memories together until they form a rudimentary personality, that suggests that she has some sort of special power over memory, likely related to the memory-gathering functions of the Khert.
And finally, there's that thing Madame Tittybird kept yelling at her over and over: Malakhomit. Duane tells her it means "run away", but if you look in the Tainish language primer included in the second volume, "it" is not a valid ending for a verb conjugation - not one listed, anyway. That suggests that it might be a noun instead: "runaway", not "run away".
I don't know what it all means, but it's some interesting food for thought.
>>233335 I'm not sure if it is spoilery, but if one looks into Ashley's older work in the deepest reaches of the site, one can find some very interesting things regarding Sette, Duane, Bastion, and Murkoph in particular. Perhaps the most interesting part in regards to Sette is the information posted underneath this image.
Sette and her brother, a blue-eyed lion named Jacaranda. They're searching for a fabled white lion reputed to grant wishes to the worthy."
Make of this what you will. Going off of how much Ashley seems to occasionally use/make reference to her old material in the creation of the Unsounded universe, I think there's some worth in considering this. Also, Sette totally referred to her tail as a lion's tale.
She's said multiple times that prior works are not canon to Unsounded and that trying to make predictions about future developments based on them is more likely to lead you astray than not.
>>233420 That said, Sette *did* refer to her tail as a lion's tail in the comic itself early on. Whether that was self-aggrandizement or foreshadowing (or even a sly reference to the earlier incarnation of her) is up for debate, but it's canon that Sette at least publicly thinks of it that way.
Author's comments said there's something for the observant or the clever to notice about Allison. Personally, aside from her cracking the tile of her shower, I can't 100% see it.
(Edit: Just saw it. It looks like she's not a natural blonde. Assuming that's what it is, at least.)
>>233703 This is clearly what Duane has to break out of before he massacres everyone and the gore is not what is shocking, it's how it is used in combination with the dialogue.
>>233994 Some are suggesting that is from when Zimmy Sprint Punched him. I do adore the utter contempt people have for him. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop and it to come out that he had best interest at heart.
Eh I kinda just want to see how far this gets pushed. What is this mans method and how will he be called out by others and he'll stifle them as well or will they let her suffer in silence.
And if the latter will he then chastise them for not coming to her aid and seeing her being distraught. And rail on Kat for not being a better friend and letting her languish in her loneliness.
Actually Tim pointed refused to help Eustace in this case, even tried to talk him out of it. It was Eustace deciding to do it anyway that lead to his eventual bisection.
>>234352 Annie wouldn't care if it was anyone else. remember she's been skipping detention because "who will they call? My parents?" attitude. And I doubt Ysengrin would care about homeworks.
>>234405 >Court gives her an important job >Finds out she's a cheat and a slacker and not really the best face for the job. >Forest doesn't care >Fire Elemental Lineage:Volatile if provoked. >Time to call in the big guns back from space to get her on the right track.
Everyone shitting on her pops being very cold and strict. But she's become quite the truant slacker over the years. She needs a bit of a nudge I think.
I don't think anyone's shitting on him for being cold and strict. Everything he had to say in this particular page is justified and correct. But before that, he repeatedly singled her out in front of the class for unexplained and arbitrary punishment, and this after just showing up out of nowhere after bailing on her for YEARS. That part wasn't just cold and strict, that was incredibly unprofessional of him as a teacher and unbelievably shitty of him as a father.
>>234410 >>234412 Also, while perhaps her father's behavior would be justified if he were actually part of her life up till now, a father suddenly appearing after years without seeing his daughter and launching immediately into stern taskmaster mode instead of starting out like "Hey pumpkin, I've missed you so much! But this shit you've been doing, it's not gonna fly." still makes him an asshole.
>>234425 We have no idea why or how Annie slipped into that coma, but I sincerely doubt Anthony meant her any permanent harm. He may be colder than an iceberg around her, but he's still her father.
>>234482 DeviantArt being extremely arbitrary with the banhammer is something that's been going on for over a decade. It sucks, but this is literally nothing new. Conversely, there are also a lot of artists on that site who post a lot of explicit porn on that site and are left untouched to this date.
>>234489 DA doesn't allow lewd, only mildly, and even then you are walking a thin line.
Just don't post porn to DA, and put it elsewhere. You don't get banned automatically, someone has to report it first. Now who could have reported her?.......
>>234591 I kinda want him not to. I want someone to offer her an out and it fail in the face of his fatherly logic. Also any place is better than a Sitcom Apartment. And I don't think Kat heard that last bit.
>>234604 >Also any place is better than a Sitcom Apartment.
This is provably false. People in a Real Life New York Apartment would murder to get the Friends Apartment. That place is HUGE. Big enough for TWO COUCHES. That aren't ALSO BEDS. Because there are actual beds, in actual bedrooms! That are not the exact size of a bed!
>>234610 I mean setting wise. Because its so obviously the Friends Apartment down to the same color its just cringeworthy in its normalcy compared to Underwater Rooms guarded by a Kraken. Course that might just be the joke and Annie's singles apartment will look like Jerry Seinfeld's place.
>>234648 Permission to do what? He couldn't have snuck into a class without anyone knowing, so he's almost definitely a real teacher this term. As for forbidding Annie from visiting the Forest and taking ownership of Renard away from her, the Headmaster seemed in-favor of both of those courses of action back when Smith was made Court Medium.
>>234695 >Goal is $3800/mo >Been active for about two days >Already at $3500 That's... that's pretty neat. Hopefully by the end of next week it will hit $4000 and we can get weekly Lackadasiy. She should really open a $100 tier that is just the $50 tier for late-comers; I bet that would sell out with 10 slots as well.
http://www.awkwardzombie.com/index.php?comic=041315 >Another thing I did for the first time this weekend is get engaged! To my boyfriend, who's now my fiance! His name is Norrin and he's my best friend and probably the greatest person I know, and I wanna marry that dude! This has nothing to do with Awkward Zombie and probably won't affect it in any way, I'm just telling you because I THINK IT'S PRETTY NEAT Our little girl is all grown up. ;_;
>>234809 Don't remember when he started showing up in her comic descriptions but they've been together for quite a while, was wondering when they'd make or break.
So after seeing some people on /co/ say that Kid Radd did the whole "every page is a gif." thing way before Homestuck did I decided to check it out.
I just finished binge reading it, and for a sprite comic from the early 00's it was way better than it had any right to be. Even ended with a flash video, so it was probably the first webcomic to do that too. Huh.
>>234836 I know such design may be titillating for some people, but I cannot imagine how that can be comfortable to have. If I was a female deity, I would make sure to never get a form like that.
Ashley said the Senet beasts are kinda awkward looking because they're direct creations, the gods went with evolution to streamline stuff for their second try. Senet beasts even have their own reality field to keep them together
Also deleted scene was gonna show Duane offering her his cloak to cover up her titties
>>234916 Okay Annie is going to leave, what is Kat going to do to make her stay? But really if this ends up being mind controlling whatnot and all he does is cackle and flee into the night like a comic villain and everything returns to normal. Boo I say.
https://www.patreon.com/Lackadaisy So Lackadaisy is at $5,500/mo. (Goal was $3,800/mo.) I'm genuinely happy for her, I'm glad to see she can turn to this full time.
>Anon sends gigi dg an ask saying "oh 4chan isn't THAT bad. You'd know it if you came and saw!" >Gigi goes to the CQ thread >Literally a /v/-tier shit thread.
>>235073 good. I hate faggots that believe that a few "comfy" generals make 4chan a good place. Shit literally only attract drama queen and karma hungry namefags.
>>235144 Its not the generals its influx of newbies that didn't understand that something was a joke about bad behavior and took it as the standard "cool" way to act.
>>235670 First place a homophobic fuck. Second place a homophobic country.
Which makes all that "lolol I guess tolerance won this time" shit from last year a huge farce. Which is hilarious, because noone will talk about that bearded thing ever again.
I'm kinda sad next ESC won't be in Russia, where half of the audience isn't allowed to participate because you know... half of the audience is gay. That would be SO funny, like man, what a fuckup to all that "loving and tolerance" bs. Everyone should just admit that people are egoistical, easy to manipulate shits.
>>235777 Kat is blamed and the rift opens back up between Annie and Kat. Focus really should be more on "why is he doing this" than "I got to find out his plan to stop him". Her ignoring Annie's pleas will come back to bite her, I know it.
>>236809 It seemed clever at first, but you realize this is her literally bottling up her emotions. Well, more literally than the expression is usually taken, anyways.
>>236819 Could anyone explain me what's going on here? I honestly completely lost track of it and now it's a complete different setting from what I remembered.
I'm wondering if Sister Claire was planned to go in this direction since the start, or if it only got this way after getting its second writer/Yamino's wife.
>>237101 Considering the entire shift into a more complex storyline, throwing away a lot of the comedy from before, a more expanded and pretty attractive universe and all this melodramatic developments, I think it's the latter. Also, that really felt like a Shyamalan tier twist.
>>240349 The former wasn't just hinted at, but seen a few hundred pages ago. Although I suppose you could be forgiven for thinking that was just some sort of anime-style barbie doll anatomy censorship rather than a genuine plot point.
I think anon means "no sexual organs" implied "no vagina," not simply a lack of nipples or some other secondary sexual characteristic. No navel means no umbilical cord which means she wasn't born in the traditional sense, too.
>>240511 Not until Robot tears Paz in half, because "it was worth it." Also awww Lab Assistant Paz with slightly different haircut. Will she get to say anything or just be around to remind the reader that Kat and her are still a thing.
>>240718 >>240719 Mitzi is probably one of the most interesting characters in any webcomic I've ever read. I'm honestly torn between her and Mordecai as my favorite character.
That Jenka of all people is the head diplomat of Mechanicsburg is pretty funny. I'd say I wonder who the spymaster is but I'm still pretty sure that's "Higgs."
>>241039 >Its Patreon in a nutshell. Why do 4chan douches get so angry when they see creative types making money off their art, anyway? Patreon, Kickstarter, commissions, whatever, nothing makes 4chan more angry than seeing someone get paid to make things.
>>241042 some bitch that it "cheapens" the artist others because it shows they are popular and it makes them angry because its no longer in a niche. Others because they are making so much sometimes. And then there are those that will shit just to watch the world burn and what to see anyone suffer.
>>241042 Certain imageboard denizens had it drilled into their heads that if you ask for any amount of attention (even if you deserve it), you are automatically an attention whore (the worst type of person to them).
They think everything must be done for free, and you must never tell anyone that you done it (remain anonymouse till you die). If you make something, and then tell everyone that you made it, and ask for any form of compensation, you are a greedy capitalist sellout attention whore. Stay anonymous, do everything for free, or we will h8 you.
Don't know if it's alright to just post webcomics you like, but I've been enjoying this one: It Hurts!, first page on http://gobolatula.com/ithurts/?comic=chapter-1-pasqualo-falls-in-love, since the homepagecan spoil it. Was storytimed on /co/, too. boards.4chan.org/co/thread/79341864/it-hurts-storytime boards.4chan.org/co/thread/79355971/it-hurts-storytime-part-2
>>241507 Eh. It wasn't a straight line from Civil to Shit. I remember the threads about the Raine Dog or however it was called was a bunch of jokes regarding the author's gender. It didn't help that the comic itself was unhealthily fixated on the romantic relationship between the dog and its owner...
It oddly enough got back to "okay, we should cool it with the pisstakes" once the author moved on to a more general audience comic about a girl and her unicorn. I'd say maybe it comes in waves. Though that'd be optimistic of me.
