I stopped caring about Homestuck a long while ago.
By the time the beta kids enter the game I just got tired of the incredibly unnecessary clusterfuck the webcomic has become.
It's fandom didn't helped either, but that's beside the point.

Its not going to be worth it, he's just going to drag it out and give unsatisfying conclusions.

Hussie is a hack anyway. I've learned not to expect much from him.

...I don't know. Right now, Caliborn sees himself as untouchable. There's no REASON for him to create a more powerful version of himself, in the form of Lord English, right now. His self-insert fanfiction is enough at the moment. Having a humiliating loss at the hands of a huge dork would be a great impetus for him to do so.

But then again, we have reason to believe that Jake will be the one to give him his "first defeat." Unless that was Lord English's first defeat, rather than Caliborn's.

Either way, I wouldn't consider it impossible that John wins this fight. There is support for either outcome right now. I am certain it won't be the last we hear from Caliborn even if John wins. And I am FAIRLY certain (but not completely certain) it won't be the end of John's involvement in the story if he loses, either.

Assuming John doesn't retcon it all, or this doesn't turn out to be a Doomed Timeline? (which I think would be a huge cop-out in either case)?
* Someone spills blood on Kanaya's ashes and she comes back to life, is pissed off. ( Classic vampire lore for vampires that are dusted, so reasonably possible )
* Karkat's Blood Powers awaken and he does some sort of bullshit to survive his fall into the lava. Possibly this ties into ressurecting Kanaya. ( I honestly have no reason to believe this other than that I want to )
* Davesprite becomes Alpha Dave ( I think this one is almost a no-brainer)
* Rose and Terezi survive. Terezi probably has a permanent scar or injury. ( I doubt they would have survived the Flash if they were going to die in the next update )
* Dave, Jane, and Jake join Jade on Team Calliope, or possibly some of them join Team Vriska. (Another no-brainer)

Rose being dragged off by Roxy before she could do anything means she'll probably revive (assuming she does die)

Also, who wants to open the books on whether or not Gamzee comes back from this somehow?

It certainly looks that way. But we also know that Hussie is unaware of a single timeline in which Gamzee dies. So if he *is* dead, that means we're in territory uncharted by the author. Or the fictitious counterpart of the real-world author who in-universe is responsible for the story being told.

Gotta say, not a fan of that drawing style. Looked way too cartoony with the thick outline and stockier body proportions :T

Homestuck has been fairly consistent in the characterization of the idea that there aren't good and evil people, just people who decide to do good and people who decide to do evil. The Condesce has flipped off Jade's and Jane's social inhibitions, and forced their loyalty, but both of them are making decisions for themselves. See, that's Terezi being fully aware of how John's mind works as per her Seer status, stating for the record that John would eventually fuck things up if he got control of the jumps. We already know that he gets control of the jumps because future John came back and talked to John and told him to find Roxy, and that was not a John that our John has become yet. So John has to intentionally perform a Retjohn that will in the process fuck things up. That requires a pretty big reason for him to Retjohn everything--which this has provided.

So yes, a Retjohn coming is inevitable. But I do not think it is going to be a solution. I think it is going to get them in even deeper water here than they already are.

Are they though? Death is a slap on the wrist in the Homestuck universe. All those dead people, right now, could go join Calliope's ghost army for whatever it is she is about to do--clearly the story is setting her up for something. And Jade alone might well not be enough. Or, the Condesce grabs the Life ring, puts it on Jane's finger, and she brings everyone but Karkat back to life. And Karkat joins Meenah's army like he already agreed to.

Meanwhile, we have no idea what a Retjohn is going to accomplish. It might lead to the very thing that results in Caliborn being able to become Lord English in the first place. Or it might close the door on one of the options they had about how to defeat Lord English forcing them to go through a MUCH more painful/arduous process for it.

Or the biggest issue facing us: Aranea was trying to create a doomed timeline. What if she succeeded, and Retjohning it is what turns this current timeline INTO the Alpha Timeline?

The fact that Jade has joined her there suggests it is something she cannot do alone, unless all she needs is moral support. All these deaths need to have happened for a reason, and we know of a dead girl who is about to do shit, so I am conjecturing that whatever she is about to do may very well require a party of adventurers.

I doubt it's going to be that simple. More likely, THE CHOICE will be Typheus laying out a series of events for John, one where he survives and one where he doesn't, and the one where he survives is the one where all his friends stay dead. And John, being who he is, doesn't even think about it.

The impression I've gotten from past references to THE CHOICE suggest that players who actually make it and die because of it often *don't* die at their Denizen's hands. Like for example there was a strong suggestion that when Hephaestus gave Davesprite the Choice, Davesprite could have chosen to have Hephaestus fix him instead of the sword. And Davesprite decided against it. Theoretically this should have mean Davesprite would die because of his decision, and maybe he still will, but he wouldn't have been killed by Hephaestus per se in that scenario.

I suspect we'll see the same thing with John.

After the number of times I've wanted Homestuck to hurry up and get on with itself, it's a weird feeling to want a scene to last longer than it does. I don't care about shipping at all and I've never really been invested in the romantic side of Homestuck at all, but something about Roxy's and John's interactions just feels nice to read.

Someone on /co/ mentioned that it might be because that John and Roxy are just two friendly and genuine people talking to each other. There's no passive-aggressive jabs or withheld information, or sarcasm. It's two people who enjoy each other's company talking.
Being the only two people alive after Game Over may also have something to do with it.

Speaking of which. I wonder what the full extent of the Denizen's "feel our loss" thing is.
