Old Wounds & Original Airbenders are being served up for us this week. Looks like we might find out what's been the divide between the Beifong sisters.
The production crew has described Book 3 as being very "gritty and emotional", looks like a tidal wave of feels is approaching. Brace yourselves!
If the theories that Sokka is Suyin's dad are true I'll actually be really disappointed. I don't think Sokka's character flaws are that severe that Toph should feel the need to refuse to let him be a father to his own child. Seems like a real dick move. And if I have the timeline right he doesn't the excuse of dying before Suyin was born.
>>117505 It could've been like Conrad Roth and Reyes from the 2013 Tomb Raider game. I should hope not though because aside from the Lara and Sam parts that game was atrociously written.
>>117505 Some people think it could've been because he was already married to someone (Suki?) and cheated on his wife with Toph to have Suyin, so her not letting him know he was the father would've been for the sake of his marriage/reputation. Which would still be a extremely shitty twist that throws Sokka's character down the well. Sure that stuff happens in real life because relationships are complicated but this isn't Game of Thrones, here it would just make Sokka (and indirectly Toph) a pair of scumbags.
Plus it would send a pretty bad message that adultery is OK in a kid's show that goes out of its way to come up with excuses so mooks don't have to die unless necessary.
I am curious as to what might have caused the falling out, considering Suyin was only 15 when Lin stopped talking to her and how Opal said that Toph and her mum had nothing but nice things to say about Lin.
Considering they had a picture of younger Lin without her scars being used as a teaser for the episode, I think that whatever she blames Suyin for might be connected with that. http://korraspirit.tumblr.com/post/91967818396/high-quality-images-from-this-weeks-legend-of
I'm curious how Lin's backstory is going to tie in with the main plot. I mean developing Aang's kids back in season 2 was pretty interesting, but at the same time it felt pointless because none of it really contributed to the main plot aside from giving them an excuse to hang together while Jinora did actual relevant things.
I like how Jinora dropped the tidbit that the newly discovered strain of Bison are in fact endangered. It isn't all "The Gaang found some new Airbison and now everything is hunky dory." Protecting the bison will be the new Air Nation's first official priority once they get the kung fu part down.
I this pair, I could see some basis of another show in this either going with Jinorah or going back to Aang and his years building republic city and gathering Air Nomad relics.
Am I the only one who was disappointed by how easily Lin and Suyin's sister issues were resolved? From the fact that she was giving her such a hard time and how troubled she was by it I would've figured it was a much more serious problem than that unless they're going to get more into it later on.
The beef between Lin and Su isn't completely resolved. Even Lin said they're just at the point where Lin won't attack Su when she comes over to her place. The fight between them was clearly a cathartic moment for Lin, but their issues are far from fully resolved. Only now they can hash them out like adults instead of tearing up courtyards. Opal's decision was the underlying string to this subplot.
How many episodes is this book? If it's 12 then we're more than half way through and the villains still haven't started their master plan. If the villains can't get to Metal City by episode 8 Korra will probably leave and the villains will have to wait for her to land somewhere else.
>>117528 Well, this is the first "season" where they knew they would have time to resolve it in more episodes than what they got for Books 1 and 2 which had to be self-enclosed. So it's possible that the 13th episode is going to be a cliffhanger. then they'll pick it up around season 4 or so (which I've heard was going to air this fall).
Wow, I was all prepared for this to be absolute dogshit with fantastic animation like the first two seasons, color me extremely happy to see they've pulled their shit together.
I'm not nearly that hard on the first two seasons but it's definitely nice to be able to just enjoy it without having to apologize for the shoddy pacing or dumb romance or whatever the FUCK they were trying to do with Bolin in season two.
Bolin has made positive contributions during Book 3 so far. If not for his idea to have an airbending street performance they wouldn't have found Kai. He and Mako finding their extended family in Ba Sing Se helped confirm that the Queen was doing some nefarious shit with the new Airbenders and he held his own against the Dai Li in the ensuing jailbreak. And he might get to bang Opal. Lucky fucker.
>>117543 >If not for his idea to have an airbending street performance they wouldn't have found Kai I was amazed that even worked. Glad Bolin's showmanship ended up being a Chekhov's Skill instead of him just being the Krew's buttmonkey. Too bad Asami is still mostly a non-entity.
>>117548 I know people are excited for that and are drawing parallels to Katara and Aang fleeing Ba Sing Se but I have a feeling it's going to be really anticlimactic. Wouldn't be the first time they've used a trailer to mislead people.
You must not remember season two very well. However useful or not-useful you think he is in this season, at least he isn't acting thick as a goddamn post.
>Nickelodeon have decided to give Korra Book 3 a hiatus. On Friday 25th July there will only be one episode airing instead of the previously announced one hour special. After June 25th, Book 3 will be taking a break. It is currently unknown when Book 3 will resume airing.
You mean of the series in general, or just for the forseeable future?
What I can see happening is them waiting a couple of months, and then they suddenly show the rest of the season in one block of episodes wthout any warning.
That, or they just randomly move it to Toonami at 4 in the morning.
>>117561 Right now I think they're gonna move it to Nicktoons. On any other network it'd be cancelled by now, but we're already halfway through book 3 and book 4 is nearly done, I can't see Nick being so stupid as to just pulling the show and leaving it at that.
I really hope just for a rescheduling to actually pair it with something at a time that makes sense like with Ninja Turtles. Instead of this fucking nonsense they keep doing of putting late at night between fucking Spongebob and Nick at Nite.
What's frustrating about this is we'll never know if it happened because LOK is just THAT bad of a show (like /co/ thinks) or if it's because Nick screwed things up so badly.
Time to take Alternate Universe Tenzin advice on this one Cave Johnson Lemons Because fuck this. Nick fucks around too many damn times and is such a shambling shitloaf to get away with this stuff anymore.
Yea I mad, this whole thing since Book 2 has been fucking unprofessional on the part of Nick. I hope all their investors leave them to their own sponge sucking demise.
Look at how Korra was marketed in early 2012 in the run up to the Book 1 premiere. TV commercials out the ass, incredible season trailer online, interactive flash game unveiling the settings and characters in Republic City, massive Korranation tumblr campaign in which crowdclicks unlocked concept art and a video of Bryan explaining how probending worked. The premiere was unlocked online 3 weeks before the premiere and even then the premiere on that SATURDAY MORNING drew ratings at ATLA's level.
Now look at how Book 2 was marketed. Nick announced zilch, nothing, nada about it. Zero communication with the fanbase. They could have broke the news of the production delay with the switch between Perriot and Mir. Nope. Book 2 in the can, put up a trailer online and slap it on FRIDAY NIGHT and then proceed to jerk it around several timeslots.
The run up to Book 1 was an ubered-up Heavy from TF2. The run up to Book 2 was a Scout with a scattergun with a spy camping his respawn constantly backstabbing him.
>>117580 You know I don't really get why people are happy over this except that LOK failed to draw in viewers. The show is still going to finish airing in some way and Bryke are still likely going to make money off of it.
>Spongebob Squarepants, while you lay there, hopefully as uncomfortable as you possibly can be, I want you to listen to me.
>I want you to digest this because before I leave this week with your Nickelodeon Championship, I have a lot of things I want to get off my chest.
>I don’t hate you, Bob. I don’t even dislike you. I do like you. I like you a hell of a lot more than I like most of the shows in the back.
>I hate this idea that you’re the best. Because you’re not. I’m the best. I’m the best animated action series in the Western world. There’s one thing you’re better at than I am and that’s kissing Sarah Noonan and Jay Schmalholz’s ass.
>You’re as good as kissing Sarah and Jay’s ass as the Rugrats were. I don’t know if you’re as good as the Rocket Power kids though. They’re pretty good ass kissers. Always were and still are.
>Whoops! I’m breaking the fourth wall! (Korra waves to the camera)
>I am the best animated action series in the Western world.
>I’ve been the best since day one when I walked into this company. And I’ve been vilified and hated since that day because Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko saw something in me that nobody else wanted to admit. That’s right, I’m a Mike and Bryan girl. You know who else was a Mike and Bryan guy? Avatar Aang. And he split just like I’m splitting. But the biggest difference between me and Aang is I’m going to leave with the Nickelodeon Championship.
>I’ve grabbed so many of Sumner Redstone’s brass rings that it’s finally dawned on me that there just that, they’re completely imaginary. The only thing that’s real is me and the fact that day in and day out, for almost 3 years, I have proved to everybody in the world that I am the best in animation and backgrounds, in my soundtrack and voice action, even in celebrity cameos! Nobody can touch me!
>And yet no matter how many times I prove it, I’m not on your lovely little collector cups. I’m not on the cover of the Nickelodeon magazine. I’m barely promoted. I don’t get to be in TV Ads. I’m not part of social media marketing campaigns. My episodes are haphazardly leaked by the clowns in corporate. I’m not on Saturday Mornings. I’m not on iTunes. But the fact of the matter is, I should be.
>I’m leaving with the Nickelodeon Championship on July 25th. And hell, who knows, maybe Mike and Bryan go defend it on Toonami. Maybe they’ll go back to Fox Animation.
>(Korra looks at the camera and waves)
>Hey, Tenzin, how you doing?
>The reason I’m leaving is you executives. Because after I’m gone, you’re still going to pour money into this company. I’m just a spoke on the wheel. The wheel is going to keep turning and I understand that. Jay Schmalholz is going to make money despite himself. He’s a millionaire who should be a billionaire. You know why he’s not a billionaire? Because he surrounds himself with glad-handed, non-sensical, douchebag (censored) yes men, like Sarah Noonan, who’s going to tell him everything he wants to hear, and I’d like to think that maybe this company will better after Jay Schmalholz’ is dead. But the fact is, it’s going to be taken over by the next in line doofus executives and the rest of their Spongebob obsessed assclowns.
>>117585 Send that to the men upstairs however you can. They need a smile like the Cartoon Network alumni that got screwed back in '10.
Hell I'd put some dosh in a campaign to show Hasbro this shit can be a Generational seller and they can trade one of their Kenner scraps to Nick to get the rights and give this franchise the spotlight it deserved. Really Avatar Bay movie, shits money in the bank.
>>117588 Wait seriously sabotaging a production that could've potentially earned over a lot of revenue just because its protag was a female? It's one thing to have no faith, but to willfully sabotage a show because you were offended that it was too progressive? Not even TheRedPill would try to pull something off that stupid.
Part of it, they will complain the fans didn't do enough to support the show. Course they could only do that when they knew it was on. But can't do that if the network doesn't ever show any care about the show in the first place.
>immediately follow this season's episodes with a teaser for next week saying "A BRAND NEW EPISODE YOU CAN'T SEE ONLINE OR ANYWHERE ELSE!" >switch the episodes to online release half way through the season
The official Korra tumblr's just updated, saying that the rest of the episodes will air weekly online from August 1st onwards, http://korranation.tumblr.com/post/92735712934/book-3-moving-to-digital-release
So, yay, not going to have to wait months between the last few episodes now! Also they're trying to spin it by saying that "this is what fans were asking for"... which isn't really the same thing as not airing it on regular tv, but ok.
>>117598 Yea, its kinda is as younger generations don't like being tied to a television schedule (increasing amounts of studies show this) and given how crap Nick has been in the past. Part of me thinks its better (more people have consoles in the living room than have cable nowadays or its getting close) but that also Nick has been a massive hot mess in handling all of this.
I wanna see some of what Titmouse is doing with the scenes they are animating for the Korra game. I could see them doing a digital book 5 if this actually goes really well. Or another Avatar show if Book 4 ties everything off well enough for Korra.
As much as I genuinely like Korra, I am kind of psyched for what comes afterwards, if they decide to franchise it Star Trek style (so Airbender is to TOS, Korra is to TNG etc.). Will they go to the next Avatar in the cycle, and move their anime-influence from Miyazaki to stuff like Akira and Ghost in the Shell? Or will they go to one of the Avatars prior to Aang got go for the more old school fantasy stuff, like Wan's adventures?
I'd kind of like to see the adventures of the older Gaang, like Toph's time as a policewoman, Aang's time as Ghandi-Lincoln etc.
>>117602 Indeed a Series with Aang as he grows into a statesmen and leader or the next series with an Earthbender working to bring peace and maybe bring his people into the republic
