yeah, i try to go for that effect, but hair's always been my nemesis. in this case doubly so. i'd done all of julie's hair shadows, and even the taper was better than i usually get... and then i went to work on the next thing, and later came back and somehow i'd applied a gaussian blur to her hairshadow layer. and when i went to see if maybe i hadn't saved since then by saving-as and opening the old one, i accidentally just did the usual overwrite save instead, ensuring that even if there was a version where all that work wasn't blurred out, it was gone now. :P

i use photoshop cs5.1, but i do it what's probably the stupidest way, just using a normal round brush, and then using an eraser at an angle to try to make it look like it comes to a point. i've learned a few tricks in my day but still pretty unsophisticated. :)

the comic actually does use gradients and subtle shadings stuff a fair bit, they're just very very subtle. and without them, it just looks flat and lifeless (on my colors, anyway), i've tried it. so yeah, mine's maybe a bit off model because there's too much of that, but when i try to replicate what they do, either turns out "so subtle you can't see it at all and still looks too flat" or "a little too much, but doesn't look that bad." and if i can't hit that sweet spot in between, i obviously i go for the latter. i mean, like professionals in animation/comics, incog does simpler coloring spectacularly with usually just a three variations from a basic shade on any section (believe me, i've studied it!) and it doesn't look flat and lifeless on his at all... maybe it's all in the perfect selection of base colors, or that his color lines on the are perfection-smooth and always in the right place, or maybe he just sold his soul to a coloring demon or something, but it's like fucking magic to me. so that is the goal, but i'm not there yet. in fact, usually try to start out simple and it always looks absolutely horrible until i add a bit more variation.

Here's a fairly simple request or suggestion... you've done similar themed ones with Gwen, so I assume the general concept appeals to you as it does to me.

Julie is a big reader. (From the older Power Pack series, Alex also reads a lot, but mostly sci-fi while she reads fantasy, but I don't know if they carried that trait over to the new one). They even had a scene in one of them where she's got an armful of books and says she'll be done them in a week. So, obviously, Julie must make the most of her time and read while having sex! Sex-while-trying-to-do-other-things has always been been one of my favorite sub-fetishes.

Anything you do with the theme would be golden of course, but just an option if you're lacking inspiration, maybe to twist it up... she's reading a sexy (fantasy) romance, and she's getting Alex to fuck her while she's reading the sex scene... maybe even as an early part of their relationship where "I just want to feel what the character's feeling" is her "excuse" for fucking her brother (if you're doing it as a comic, she could be directing him in time with the story, and ending on a romantic post-sex kiss because she wanted to experience that "from the book" too, would make me super-happy, but even a single image on this theme would enrich my life)
